IWork's missing files

iworks 08, did work. Now it says "....missing files, use the iWork installer..."  Internal disc drive doesn't work, so thought I would just buy 09 from itunes. itunes says no, because iwork is already installed on this computer.  So I bought an external disc drive, but it's not compatable with Mac Book Pro of that year. Any ideas?  Thanks.

Having a previous version of iWork (no 's') installed won't interfere with installing a newer version. The only problem you may encounter is getting a message that you need a serial number. Getting the request for a serial number means that at some time you had the iWork ’09 trial installed. You need to delete the trial & then reinstall from the boxed DVD or the Mac App Store. The files to delete are the iWork ’09 folder from the main HD > Applications; the iWork ’09 folder in HD > Library > Application Support & the individual iWork application plist files found in HD > Users > (your account) > Library > Preferences for each user. The easiest way to fix the problem is to use Yvan Koenig's AppleScript that removes the files. You can find it on his box.com account in for_iWork'09 > other_iWork'09 items > uninstall iWork '09.zip. Download uninstall iWork '09.zip, decompress it, open it in AppleScript Editor and click the Run button
I haven't tried one of the Apple USB optical disk drives & have no idea why it wouldn't work on an older Mac, but that is Apple. I only have one Mac, a 2011 Mac mini that doesn't have an optical drive. I have 2 or 3 external FireWire optical drives that work on all of my Macs.

  • Iwork '08, now missing files?

I just installed Leopard from Tiger and because I purchased iwork '08 online when I had tiger, I had to try to reinstall once in in Leopard. It says I'm missing files and need to reinstall iwork '08. Does anyone know the best way to "reinstall" when you purchased on line? I put in my original serial number when I opened it for the first time after getting into Leopard (with my old pages files missing fonts) - but now it won't even let me in.

    Nells,
Having removed everything that Dennis listed as files related to iWork, I still could not install iWork from my CD. So that problem is not solved.
However, after removing everything yet again, I tried downloading the trial version of iWork from the site Dennis listed in an earlier email. From that site, I got the dmg file. I opened it, and installed the trial version, and that worked!
When it opened, I entered my serial number from the CD, and that also worked. Then it asked if I wanted to update iWork, and I hesitantly agreed. That also worked, and I noticed that the updates included iLife Support.
Maybe that is what I was missing? I had loaded iLife at one time, but found it really contained nothing I would be using, so I "dumped it" but probably left residual stuff as I had done with iWork.
I'd like to know how you do with the ToolTech Deluxe. I bought that a year ago, and somehow I managed to dump the BootBlocks from my hard drive (G5 tower). I had to go to a Mac authorized repair shop, and they could only resurrect about 2/3 of my files, and could not repair the hard drive. It was still under warrant, so I got it replaced but still had to pay the labor bill.

  • How do i restore missing files for i work 09 as it is asking me to reinstall but cant find the disk?

how do i restore missing files for i work 09 as it is asking me to reinstall but cant find the disk?

    Hello Jessica472,
It sounds like you need to recover some missing files but do not have access to the iWork '09 disc you used to install it. If you have a Time Machine backup and know what files you need, you can use the "Restoring specific files or folders" section of the following article to restore them:
Mac Basics: Time Machine backs up your Mac
If you do not have Time Machine, you will need the disc to reinstall the software suite.
Thank you for using Apple Support Communities.

  • Where did my bullets go in Keynote? And why am I missing files?

I've been working on a Keynote presentation that will be exported as a PDF eBook. I opened it up today and I get error messages saying that I have missing files and my square "checkmark-less" bullets have disappeared. (See image below)
I'm using the Black Checkmark Bullets. The checkmark bullets are ok. Its checkmarkless cousin isn't listed in the inspector window when I try to update it manually. I'm also getting a lot of error messages.
This is the first time I've expereinced this problem. Running 10.7.3 on a MBPro (2.66 i7 w/4GB RAM), Keynote 5.1.1).
Ideas to correct this issue? Thanks in advance!

    SOLVED -
Used AppCleaner to unstaill Keynote, Pages and Numbers. Reinstalled iWork from disk and ran updates. Issue resolved itself after this.

  • Why missing file error?

I made the mistake of updating to 10.1 and now I am regretting it.
I have a project with files from another library and I get the missing file (red box) error. I try re-linking, but apparently, you cannot re-link to files that are in a library, I don't get that.
If I drag a clip from a library to a poject in a different library, the video shows up. But, as soon as I grab it and move it on the timeline, I get the Missing File error again.
    Very frustraing.
Surely you should be able to share clips between libraries? I set up a library of Shared clips that I use frequently in projects across my other libraries.
    Any help would be appreciated.

On Friday I did a new spreadsheet based on a previous spreadsheet to do some serious work. I saved it. I am using 2.3.
    index.xml files missing
I have two iterations of Numbers showing under Recent Items. Both of them show 2.3.
I navigated to Applictions/Numbers. That shows as 3.5. I opened from the Applications folder from my hard disk and the needed file opened.
I did a search by name for Numbers/Applications and found three. One was the 3.5 I wanted to use, two were in iWork folders, one in my main disk Applications, the outer in a backup of Applications. I was able to throw away the backup Number, the but one on the hard disk could not be thrown away because it said it was still open. Only the 3.5 version was open. I quit 3.5 and was able to throw away the duplicate 2.3.
I keep previous iWorks/Pages because the new version is a crippled version that does not offer the features and commands on which I came to depend. I am abandoning Apple for my word processing and document creation needs. The newest version is a serious downgrade from the previous Pages functionality. Scrivener requires a learning curve, but has proven to take up the slack of reliability that Apply has dropped.
I will shift all my spreadsheet work to an open source spreadsheet, Numbers has joined Pages in needless lost time in functionality and the simple ability to open the right program for the document created by that program.
Too bad. I despise Microsoft and depended on Apple from 1985 up. I have two Linux boxes in the house and use my Mac primarily for work with previously purchased Adobe programs. When those stop functioning, the iMac will also join my Linux workforce.

  • Re-install issue:  "missing files" ?

My MacBook was getting slow, so I decided to try a clean re-install after backing everything up to an external drive. After I reinstalled OS X Tiger, I reloaded my apps and libraries of preferences and all from the external drive. When I tried to launch Keynote, I got a message saying, "Files that iWork needs are missing. To restore the missing files, use the iWork installer to reinstall iWork." So I tried that; I trashed the apps, deleted the iWork preferences (.plists), and re-installed from the disc, then ran Software Update until it said I was up to date. Now I'm getting the same error message. Any idea how I figure out what files are missing?
    Thanks -
    Eric

I was installing Dreamweaver (Mac version) and received this message. The support people gave me the tech note that says to install the most recent ExtendScript update and if this doesn't fix the problem uninstall the entire CS3 Suite. Do either or both of these things if all you have is a day to blow off. AND after you reinstall the entire suite you still have to get all the updates - more time wasted. FYI, the first time I had this issue last year I did this and it didn't fix the problem because, at least then, the uninstaller didn't remove the old ExtendScript files.
This was the real fix. Search for ExtendScript on your system. Throw all the folders in the Trash. Restart your system and run the CS3 installer. If you watch the installer the first thing it does is repair the current installation. Because the ExtendScript folder is missing it replaces it and installs the components you want. Fix time - 2 minutes.

  • There are missing files for numbers.

How do I find files are missing needed to launch numbers? Where is the iwork launcher?

The DVD versions of iWork install some shared resources in an iWork folder under Application Support in the Computer Library. If you try to copy the application to another computer without using the installer, you get an error message about these missing files.

  • Trial version missing files?

When i open the trial version of pages, or the other programs in iwork, a box pops up stating theres missing files. I click on run anyway and it seems to work ok. Are these files missing because its the trial version?

Sorry charco I didn't realise you were new Welcome.
Command is the key with  ⌘ on it. Press down the command key and the shift key and 4 all together. The curser changes to a cross and you draw around anything on the screen with the cursor and it puts a png picture on the desk top. Command shift 3 takes a screen shot and puts it on the desktop too. Press esc to cancel if you get lost.
I use command shift 4 to draw around strange windows or warnings so I have a record of them.

  • Document Warnings - Missing File REDUX

I have a rather lengthy file that continues to give a Document Warnings notice that a Missing File Type of Description "tilepaperblue-420.jpg".
I actually have a list of some 180 "tilepaperblue-###.jpg" files listed. I'm using a blank template for the file and never used any file "tilepaperblue-###.jpg". I've searched my hard drive for any such file and get bupkis.
    Any thoughts?

Besides being kept in places like the iWork application support folder, theme files can also be located within presentations. If you are saving Keynote files as packages, right click on the file and select "Show package contents". For iWork 5.05 you will see a directory called "theme-files". If you receive the warning about missing theme-files, that is probably where they are missing from.
(If you are not saving Keynote files as packages, you can convert them by changing the file extension from *.key to *.zip, then unzip the file, which will now appear as a directory. If you add the extension *.key to this directory, it will become a package that is readable by Keynote. Look inside the package directory for theme-files if you are using iWork 5.05. Otherwise, the theme image files will be scattered among the other files in the directory.)
The first time I encountered this problem I was using a Keynote file that contained content pulled from another Keynote file that was a converted PowerPoint file. I looked into the theme-file directory of the original converted file, and sure enough the "missing files" were there. I copied them and pasted them into the theme-files directory of the presentation that was complaining. The complaints ceased! I have no idea where the files came from originally.

  • Spotlight Indexing, Systemstats, Missing File, All After Mavericks Upgrade

    Dear Mac Support Communities,
The upgrade to OS X 10.9.4 has crippled my computer.
My main question is: should I reformat, or should I wait for a patch to come out to solve whatever is wrong with Mavericks? I explain below.
Spotlight is constantly indexing. The mdworker is all over the place on the Activity Monitor—4% and then it explodes to 85% of CPU usage. Systemstats kicks in randomly (connected to spotlight perhaps?) and eats up 90% of my CPU and 3gigs of RAM. Time Machine takes AGES to backup.
I have not been able to stop Spotlight's endless indexing. I have moved my hard drive and my Time Machine backup into the 'private' filter in 'Spotlight Preferences.' I have also tried the "sudo mdutil -a -i off" trick to stop indexing altogether. But Spotlight Indexing goes "off" and then automatically turns "on" in Terminal. Spotlight carries on, and the computer performance is choppy.
I've run disk repair. First, I repaired permissions. Then I verified and attempted to repair the the hard drive. There is a missing file apparently, and I therefore must reformat. This is very first issue I've ever had with the hard drive since I bought the computer. Considering how awful Mavericks has been—I have been reading other Support Communities posts—I'm nervous about something going wrong, or that all these problems will persist after the reformat.
All of this has occurred three days after my upgrade to to OS X 10.9.4. I have heard of numerous people having problems with Mavericks. All similar problems concerning missing files, haywire spotlight, systemstats devouring any remaining CPU power and memory space, and slow Time Machine back-ups.
Anyone with the same problems? Care to theorize some solutions?
    I have a late 2008, 15inch MacBook Pro., 2.53 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo, 8 GB 1067 MHz DDR3, running OS X 10.9.4 (13E28).
    Cheers! I appreciate the help.

Older Macs have more troubles under Mavericks. Considering the age of your Mac, it's not uncommon to start have hardware issues like drive failure.
To repair the drive you must boot from the Recovery Drive.
Boot into the Recovery Drive by holding down Command R when restarting.
Run Repair Drive and Repair Permissions using Disk Utility in Recovery.***
Next Reset Home Directory Permissions and ACLs following directions here This will serve two purposes. It will reset YOUR permissions. Not the same as Disk Utility reset permissions and it will cause Spotlight to re-index your drive when restarting.
    Restart
Download and run the combo updater to refresh your OS X files.
OS X Mavericks 10.9.4 Update (Combo)
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1755
MORE INFO ON WHY RUNNING COMBO FIXES ISSUES
Apple updates available from the Software Update application are incremental updates. Delta updates are also incremental updates and are available from Apple Downloads (software updates are generally smaller than delta updates). The Combo updates contain all incremental updates and will update files that could have become corrupted.
Combo updaters will install on the same version as they're applying--no need to roll back or do a clean install.
"Delta" updaters can only take you from one version to the next. For example: 10.9.3 to 10.9.4. If somehow the 10.9.3 is missing something it should have, and that something isn't changed between 10.9.3 and 10.9.4 it will still be stale after the delta update.
***If Disk Utility is unable to repair you will have to copy your data to an external drive first. Reformatting will erase the drive. You should have a backup regardless, if your data is important to you. Just like a seat belt and an air bag protect you in different ways when driving, you need both Time Machine and a clone for full protection. If you don't have an external drive for backup, I can give you some suggestions to get you started.
Both of these applications can be used to create a clone.

  • Captivate 6 Errors: Missing file libwinpthread-1.dll  and The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) on Windows 2008 R2

    Hi,
I have a problem with Captivate 6 installation on Windows Server 2008 R2. I have 2 different scenarios where I tested but the result is same.
1- I used AMEE (Application Manager Enterprise 3.1) to create the installation Package to deploy through SCCM 2012.
Notice that the current package works fine on Windows7 (x86 & x64) but not on 2008 R2 due to an error after I try to launch Captivate.exe application.
The error states that there's a Missing file: libwinpthread-1.dll and if I copy and made a registration of this .DLL file then it sends another error saying: The Application was unable to start correctly (0xc000007b) so it never let me launch the application.
2- Now if I install the package directly from the Original sources(CD) without creating any AMEE package after completing the installation I still have the same error about the DLL missing file.
Is there any fix or workaround to install Captivate 6 on Win2008 R2 ?
Thanks in advance & kind regards.

  • I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open

I downloaded some videos to Premier Elements 13 from an external hard drive but now the external hard drive is damaged. While setting up my new MAC the external hard drive was dropped and I have been told by an outside source they could not retrieve the files.  It had 4 years of photos and videos on it. I remembered that I had downloaded some of the videos from the external hard drive (before it was broke) to Adobe Organizer 13 when I installed the Adobe 13 on my MACOS X 10.9.5.  I tried to open the videos on the organizer which it shows the video but with a yellow ? and says missing file. Is there anyway I can open these videos?
Any input is greatly appreciated!! I am sick over losing the videos and had a little hope on Adobe Organizer until I was unable to open them.  I am thinking it is due to my external hard drive not being plugged in. I thought when I transferred from the external hard drive to Adobe 13 that it would be there without the external hard drive needing to be attached but maybe I did something wrong.
    Thanks again for any help!!!!

It had 4 years of photos and videos on it.
To what did your camera record those photos and videos - camera's internal memory, inserted memory card, other?
Any remote chance that the latter may still exist for you to use to download the camera files to your new external hard drive?
