Recently installed Mavericks and updated iWorks. Since then, the cursor in either Pages or Keynote suddenly stops entering text and instead each attempted character acts like the space bar.

No, sorry you do indeed have Pages '09 (your comment on the icon fooled me) and need to update it to v4.3 to make it compatible with Mavericks:

Pages 5 is the new Mavericks only version. Best avoided till Apple fixes it.

Have you checked all the volume settings? Look under sounds. You also might want to try doing a soft reset.

How do I get my macbook to stop scrolling up and down screens, mainly in safari, when hitting the space bar?

Middle Click suddenly stopped working. I have tried installing older versions , but that does not work. Please note I do not have any addons installed.

Okay so I have a white IPhone 4s, and I got it for christmas (if that matters) its very new and I havent experienced any problems with it untill now.
I was just texting someone (who does have any iphone but we weren't using imessage) then I dont get a text for ages so I just text and say "hello?" then it comes up with an exlamation mark (like message failed) then i send another and another and another and they all do that
Then i text my sister on imessage and everythings totally fine.
next i try texting my phone from a nokia and the text didn't come through, and i tried calling my phone from the nokia and it went strait to answer phone, and I tried calling my home phone from my iphone then it just came up with call failed like automatically

This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party software that loads automatically at startup or login, or by a peripheral device.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. Note: If FileVault is enabled, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test.

Internet sharing suddenly stopped working - please help!

I have been sharing my internet for weeks from my computer but this morning it suddenly stopped working. I've tried changing the password, changing the channel number, and changing the Network name to a simple one, but it is all not working Apparently the authentication server is not responding? How can I fix that?

I'm having the same problem. I had internet sharing set up on my iMac from Ethernet via AirPort, and received quite well on my MacBook and iPod Touch, and then one day, it just stopped working. I'm assuming that some update or other caused this problem, but I have no idea which (I mostly use the internet on my desktop machine, so it may have been several days before I noticed the problem). I've tried with-and-without a password, and also tried sharing from my MacBook to the iMac and iPod Touch, and I can't get any bandwidth (I can connect to the 802.11 network that I create, but I can't get any internet through it).

I just brought my MacPro in for service and they replaced my hard drive. However, now my disc drive has suddenly stopped working! Is there anything I can do to fix this without having to take it back in for service, again!?

The nearest service center is 2 hours from my house and my computer isn't under warranty anymore, so I need alternative options. I'm just frustrated that my disc drive was totally fine until AFTER I took it in for service. I just paid a lot of money for a new hard drive from the apple store and now my disc drive has suddenly stopped working correctly. I tried with multiple CD's and DVD's...loading a disc, but my computer would just make a weird loading noise and then eject the discs. Now it has started fighting taking the disc, so I have stopped trying. Is there anyway to fix this problem without taking it in for service again and paying another boat load of money?

when you say that your disc drive is damaged, do you mean your MacBook Pro’s hard disk drive, or do you mean its SuperDrive (the CD/DVD drive)?
When you’d updated your MacBook Pro to Mavericks, did the installation succeed, and subsequently freeze up? Or did it freeze up during the Mavericks installation?
Which version of OS X was installed on your MacBook Pro before you’d installed Mavericks?
Are you currently able to boot into the Mavericks recovery partition? To see if you can do so, hold down a Command key and the R key while starting up your MacBook Pro.

Touchscreen suddenly stopped working

Hi all,
After about an hour of working this morning, my touch screen suddenly stopped functioning. I have tried using it with and without an external mouse plugged in, but nothing seems to work. Initially I was able to see the Touch menu under the Control Panel, but after restarting it has disappeared.
I searched for calibration options and after selecting "View Pen and Touch Info" it reads "No pen or touch info is available for this display". I've had this computer for a few months now and this is the first issue I've had with the touch screen. I haven't installed any updates overnight that would have disrupted anything.
Is there a driver or anything I can download to fix this?

My iphone 4s has stopped received texts from one person

Hi everyone,
My iphone 4s has suddenly stopped receiving texts sent from my husband's iphone 4s. I've never had a problem until a few days ago, and now nothing comes through from him.
He still gets my texts fine, and there's nothing at his end that shows that his aren't getting through to me.
I'm with Orange and he's with O2.
Hope you can help me solve this rather annoying mystery. Thanks in advance!

Ok, go to Messages- and swipe to delete the message conversation with your husband.
Next, go to Contacts. Find his contact card. IF you know his number, tap Edit, then Delete at the bottom. Now on the list of contacts tap the + button and Re-add him back into your contacts.
Send him a message. It should work.

6230 stopped receiving texts

My 6230 has suddenly stopped receiving texts for no reason. Nothing happened that I know of to cause this, it just mysteriously stopped. I contacted the network and they said clean the sim card, but that didn't help. I've had this phone for 3 years and never any problems with it. Please help!

So, the Apple Store told you that you have an out of warranty hardware problem but you chose not to have it fixed? I suppose you could always take it to a third party repair outfit and see if you could get it repaired more cheaply.
You could also try basic troubleshooting steps like resetting, restoring from back up, restoring from new. You could try contacting your carrier to see if it's an issue on their end.
Or, you could keep refusing to do what obviously needs to be done.

I have been running Office 2004 on my Intel iMac with Snow Leopard for some time and all of a sudden I cannot save a document. Word just stopped responding and I have to force quit. I can open Word and create a new document but I cannot save it. I reinstalled Word but that didn’t help. Then went to the Internet and found at least one other Mac user having the same problem which it suggests is caused by a recent Mac Security Update:

So I check for a new Mac Security Update and sure enough there was one. I downloaded it and now Word seems to be working, as it should. I can both open and save files. The only problem remaining is that when I open Word I get the following error message “An unexpected error occurred while trying to load the Microsoft Framework library”. I contacted Apple but they were unable to help.
How can I get rid of this error message?

Look, I realize you might have to get your machine working, so this is how you revert back.
Restore proceedure to pre-Security Update 2012-001 v 1.0 & v 1.1
#1 Backup your personal data off the machine.
Backup files off the computer (not to TimeMachine). If you don't have a external drive, get one and connect to the USB/Firewire port and simply drag and drop copy your User folder to the external drive, it will copy all your files. It's best to have two backups of your data off the machine when trying to restore.
Disconnect all drives now to prevent any mistakes from occuring.
#2 Reinstall OS X 10.6 from disk
Get out your 10.6 install disk and make sure it's clean and polished (very soft cloth and a bit of rubbing alcohol, no scratches) If your disk is borked, you'll have to order a new one from Apple with your serial number.
Hold c boot off the 10.6 disk (wired keyboard, internal optical drive), use Disk Utility First Aid to >Repair Disk of your internal drive (do not format or erase!!), Quit DU and simply re-install 10.6.
Note: Simply reinstalling 10.6 version from disk (without erasing the drive) only replaces 10.6.8 with 10.6.x and bundled Apple programs, won't touch your files (backup anyway) or most programs, unless they installed a kext file into OS X itself. (only a few on average do this)
#3 Update to 10.6.8 without Security Update 2012-001 v1.0 or v1.1
Reboot and log in, update to 10.6.8 via Software Update, but EXCLUDE THE Security Update 2012-001 by checkinig the details and unchecking the blue check box.
#4 Reinstall any non-working third party programs
When you reboot, make sure to reinstall any programs that require kext files installed into OS X, you'll know, they won't work when you launch them or hang for some reason as they are missing the part they installed into OS X.
If for some freakish reason you get gray screen at any time when booting (possible it might occur when you reinstall older programs), hold the shift key down while booting (Safe Mode, disables kext files) and update your installed third party software so it's compatible with 10.6.8.

Group Text messages suddenly stopped working

One of our I-phone 5 suddenly stopped being able to receive group texts. We tried turning off the phone and then back on, as well as toggling the group messaging switch on and back off. Does anybody know why this might be happening?
