IWork09 + Mac Os X Server Snow Leopard 10.6 - ACL problem

I have a client with 6 users who are having issues saving iWork files in our MacMiniServer running 10.6.6.
Users, in MacOsX server are setting inside a group "i.e. GROUP". GROUP, in ACL field, have Full Control of Folder, child foldes, child files, all discendants and I propagate permissions.
One client, member of GROUP, can save pages/numbers/preview files into server, but every time other client, member of same GROUP, try to modify that document in mainly, Numbers or Pages (and also Preview) it is giving errors, "I don't have the specific ones at this time". So we have to drag the documents to our Local Desktop, save and then drag drop back into the Server folder, we all have read and write access to these documents.
I have seen in Server Admin File Sharing that iWork and Preview files lose their ACL information, while Office files, Archicad files and other don't have any problem.
Anyone have any ideas?
Thanks

Hi Yvan!
Few minutes ago I resolve my problem and now I tell you how.
The problem isn't that several users may work simultaneously on a given document (iWork files), but my typical situation was:
A user (X) saves a new pages files into server shared folder. He closes file and Pages.
After time, other user (Y) goes to open that file but for him it is impossible resaving the file. Not simultaneously, but in different time. IWork files lost their ACL.
In my server user X and user Y are inside the same group (AAA) and, in the share folder, ACL permissions are Full Control for AAA Groups.
This morning I have generated a new Share Points, I propagate permissions (Group AAA Full Control) to This Folder, Child Folders & Files and then I have transfered all my files from older Share Points to newest Share Folder. All iWork file now are working without permission problems.

  • WebObjects and Apache2.2 on Mac OS X Server (Snow Leopard)

I have been configuring a new Mac Mini Server with the latest version of Mac OS X Server.
Typically we have been using Max OS X (non-server) in development environment and were following our instructions on how we set up all our boxes.  In setting up our new installation on the "server edition" we came across something that caused up some pause.
After we got our WebObjects application launched through JavaMonitor, it attempted to open Safari, but "page" could not be found.  We suspected that that WebObjects Adaptor was not being utilized.
Looking through the Apache logs we found this:
script not found or unable to stat: /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/WebObjects
We checked our httpd.conf (Apache 2.2.17).  This file is slightly different that the one for our generic (non-server) Mac OS X Snow Leopard installations.  It even mentions that in the comments at the top of httpd.conf file that ships with Mac OS X Server
We had included the following as we normally do -
    Include /System/Library/WebObjects/Adaptors/Apache2.2/apache.conf
But in order to get WebObjects to kick in, we needed to comment out the line
    #          ScriptAlias /cgi-bin/ /Library/WebServer/CGI-Executables/
Once we did that... boom... app was working fine.  Since all that is running on this box is WebObjects and Oracle, we are happy with this solution. Moral of the post is that the httpd.conf file supplied is different between "Mac OS X" and "Mac OS X Server" editions.
Note:  We do not even see the ScriptAlias line in our non-server httpd.conf.
We were clued into this from a previous discussion on here (and its related replies). http://discussions.apple.com/message/12786408#12786408
    Hope this helps someone else.

If you have another administrative username (such as the Open Directory (OD) Administrator (diradmin) username, then you can use that to reset the password.
If you don't have another administrative password including a local administrator and if it's your Open Directory Administrator password that you've forgotten, then you'll want to follow HT1194 Mac OS X Server: How to reset the Open Directory administrator password for the sequence used to reset the OD access.  (The header of that article lists up through 10.5, but the text also lists 10.6.)
Once you're back in, you'll probably want to consider adding a back-up directory administrator account with an obscure password, and write down that password and stick it in a fireproof safe somewhere, or maybe in a note in your Keychain of your own OS X client system, or some other secure location.  I do that with a few servers, storing that data with full-disk copies of the server backups, etc.

  • Mac os x to mac os x server (snow leopard)

Hello, I'm quite new with this, is it possible to use a time machine made in os x to restore settings and files into a mac os x server?? I mean, I made one backup with time machine but i need to install the server version, will I be able to use that time machine?? thanks a lot.

Yes you can restore items from your TM backup. However, many preferences and settings for the client version of OS X may not be applicable to the server version.

  • Mac Mini 2010 Server Snow Leopard Install Issues

I'm trying to install, well reinstall, OS X server on my 2010 Mac Mini Server. Everything is completely stock and I'm reinstallling via a Mac Book Air Superdrive and the OS X disc that came with my Mac mini. I'm installing it on the main disk partitioned to 100gb. Everytime I go to install it goes to restart and then I have no video. When I power down manually after this it only shows the CDROM as the boot disk but the drive shows ~7gb used when I get into disc tools. I've done this about 3 times now and I'm just about ready to return it. I'm using a Sony Bravia HDTV as the monitor via HDMI port for display. I don't have any other displays or macs to use either.

Jnko, I've reinstalled the OSx server on my 2nd HD using the MBair Superdrive and all went well. After installation there is only 7G used so that is proper.
If you're losing the video, try unplugging the HDMI cable and replugging at the point of failure. This usually resets the video.
    Hope this helps.

  • My Mac was upgraded to Snow Leopard. iMovie now have problems importing from SONY camcorder.

This is the first time I hooked up my camcorder since the upgrade.  iMovies shows my videocan with an excalamation mark inside a yellow diamond and bogs down completely.  What is wrong?  I have iLife 2011.  Is there a setting that I missed?

    {quote}Has anyone else had problems importing with this specific model or a related model and if so were you able to fix the problem or find a work around? I guess I could transfer the old Sony movies to my new Canon GL2 and then import into the iMac but that kind of defeats the purpose as I have been repeatedly told how simple and intuitive it is to do things on the iMac.{quote}
I don't have the Sony, but for older tape camcorder's I use a standard DVD recorder and burn the movie to DVD then use [HandBrake|http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/21117] to convert to MPEG-4 for importing to iMovie.

  • Upgrade mysql in Mac Os Server Snow Leopard 10.6.8

    Hi
The built in mysql server on Mac Os Server Snow Leopard 10.6.8 that I have bought is 5.0, I need to upgrade it to 5.5, how do I do that?
    I followed these instructions
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4006
Everything went smoothly except that the server is not upgraded still the same version.
    Thanks

Chris is right. The only way, you can upgrade to 5.5 is by doing it manually. Apple will probably update to a later version with Lion. But MySQL version updates have been rare in the past.
Installing a different version is pretty straightforward, but you can not use SA anymore and have to configure the php, apache in the correct way. There are plenty of links out there which can help you.
    So long.

You can get replacement System Install & Restore CD/DVDs from Apple's Customer Support - in the US, (800) 767-2775 - for a nominal S&H fee. You'll need to have the model and/or serial number of your Mac available.

  • Can anyone please tell me which version of Photoshop Elements will download easily and run with mac 10.5.8 Snow Leopard?

I posted a question which was: Can anyone please tell me which version of Photoshop Elements will work with Mac 10.6.8 Snow Leopard.  Then this window popped up saying mark this discussion with as a question and this window.  I have no idea how this works. It already is a question and if I need to emphasize that, how does this window that looks like a Word editing window, help me do that?Downloading, Installing, Setting Up

You asked the question in the title area instead of the area where the body of your posting is intended to be.  No fault of yours - they need to make the form clearer.
Check the system requirements for the various versions of Photoshop Elements and see which suits your system.  Adobe only sells the most recent versions of their software, so if you need an older version you will need to find a vendor for it.

  • I want to upgrade my Imac from tiger 10.4.11 to Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard. What is the best way to do this.

I have just purchased an iphone 4 and it needs me to have the latest itunes on my computer.  I have not upgraded by computer for some time and thought this is probably the time to do it. My computer is an imac intel with Tiger 10.4.11. I want to upgrade my Imac from tiger 10.4.11 to Mac OS 10.6 Snow Leopard or higher.  What is the best way to do this?  Appreciate any help as I am out of practice. I used to be an old hand at this, but things have moved on since I didn't upgrade or use my computer as much!

The best way, really the only way, is to purchase Snow Leopard.
    Online (UK): http://store.apple.com/uk/product/MC573/mac-os-x-106-snow-leopard
Elsewhere: call the phone number in the Apple Online Store.
    Apple's price is $19.99, £14.00, €18.
Snow Leopard is not available to download from any legitimate source.
Once you install Snow Leopard, upgrade iTunes to version 10.7 or the latest, iTunes 11.
iTunes 10.6.3 is the last version of iTunes to support Mac computers with Mac OS X 10.5.8 with either Intel or PowerPC processors, but since you have an Intel iMac, the best solution is to purchase Snow Leopard. Leopard is no longer available from Apple and prices from aftermarket vendors can be unreasonably high.

  • Should I upgrade Intel Core Duo 1 Mac Mini (2006) to Snow Leopard?

Okay I have a 80 GB Apple Mac Mini with Intel Core Duo 1 proccessor that shipped with Mac OS X Tiger (10.4.7) currently running 10.4.11 that I want to upgrade to either Leopard or Snow Leopard in a few months just in time for Christmas which I acquired in September 2006. It was the first Mac Mini model to include Apple's Front Row software and shipped with an Apple Remote (I know Macs don't ship with Apple Remotes anymore you have to buy them separately) and am now pondering an update. I've heard some things about Snow Leopard not working so well with older Macs even Intel based Macs that are only 32 bit.
Thing is I just got a new MacBook Pro that shipped with Snow Leopard and it seems to run fine on the MacBook Pro except for the fact a few applications I wanted to install wouldn't work with Snow Leopard like Google Desktop for Mac so was wondering if I should update the Mac Mini also to Snow Leopard. I do not particularly like how Apple removed the transcoding features to export video from one format to another in QuickTime X that was available to QuickTime 7 Pro users (actually reinstalled QuickTime 7 Pro on my new MacBook Pro so I can still use that despite QuickTime X being installed) but like Expose integrated with the Dock Menu that's new in Snow Leopard and features like Cover Flow built into the Finder (available also in Leopard along with Spaces) so if I update the Mac Mini should I update to Snow Leopard or Leopard?
This is a 2nd generation Mac Mini (the 1st generation had PowerPC chips) with Mac OS X Tiger and I've heard some negative news about upgrading Mac Mini to Snow Leopard so I want to get some more feedback on whether or not its worth it. The Mac Mini came with iLife and iWork 06 versions but updated iWork to iWork 08 Family Pack. Still have iLife 06 though and am still running iTunes 8.2.1 on the Mac Mini.
I use this computer as my main system for syncing with iPods (I have a 5th gen video iPod and a 2nd gen iPod Touch that I sync with the iTunes Library on my Mac Mini which includes videos purchased earlier from iTunes Store and music purchases as well as TV purchases) so don't want to risk messing up the system with a Snow Leopard update if it is going to cause problems doing so. If Snow Leopard is not good for the Mac Mini will just update to Leopard and stick with Mac OS 10.5 Leopard on this system.

I upgraded my mac mini 1.5GHz core solo to a Core 2 Duo 1.8Ghz in order to run most of SL's 64 bit stuff. I bought a pulled Core 2 Duo from ebay for $29 and it took about 1.5 hours to do the switch.
The main downside with the 2nd gen Mac Mini is the kernel cannot run in 64 bit mode due to a 32 bit controller that cannot be upgraded. Yet, booting into 32 bit kernel is SL's default setting and as you may have read in articles when SL came out, relying on a 32 bit kernel does not slow down use of 64 bit apps. I maxed RAM to this mac mini's 2 Gig limit years ago which is a good thing for you to do too.
I am happy to report the upgraded Mac Mini runs much faster than originally thanks to the 2 gig of RAM and the Core 2 Duo chip. Installing SL made it run faster still and consumption of memory for apps is lower (smaller pipeline requirements with faster CPU), and about 14 GIG of HDD space was recovered since I did not reinstall Xcode tools. I can now encode 1.5 hour long video files that used to take overnight processing time. CPU runs hotter, up to 89ºC, but usually run only about 10º higher on average than before while fan rev's not noticeably more than before between 1500 to 1800.
If you are not comfortable to upgrade the CPU, I think you will still find some benefit to SL for $25. Alternatively you could sell your Mac Mini on ebay (these 2nd gen model are popular for those want to do the upgrade) and use the proceeds to buy a refurbished current gen Mac Mini.

AFAIK, there's no app that'll clone the Mac and PC volumes so you can restore them. System Image Utility.app or Deploy Studio for Mac and Ghost for PC are needed. See these for starters:

I used Roxio VHS to DVD for Mac (have iMac with Snow Leopard) and the audio does not synch with the video when playing in iMovie.  Any suggestions to fix?

Thanks for the reply.  I tried playing with detaching the audio in iMovie, but with 20+ hours of video to correct, it would take too long.  After 28 hours, Corel/Roxio tech support replied that it is a known bitrate mismatch problem and they have no real fix.  I strongly suggest not to buy this product.

I am trying to update my mac to os x snow leopard but the cd won't run on my computer. I'm using an external dvd hardrive but I don't see why that would make a difference in wether or not it runs.

Well, that may be the cause of the no install problem, as Snow Leopard does require at least 1gB of RAM. The Apple link below will show how it is installed.
