Iworks 09 and new iWork compatibility
We run our office all with the iWork Suite from apple. However we have some older machines which cannot be upgraded to neighter LION nor Mavericks.
What I have run into now is, that the older machines cannot run the new iWorks suite anymore AND the docs the new Pages/Numbers create are no longer backward compatible.
This is an awkward step I think. I am really not happy with this.

Powerbook and new Mac Mini compatibility
I'm considering purchasing a new intel-powered mac mini with airport express to use as a house server.
In addition, as I can't afford to replace my G4 powerbook just yet, I was hoping that I might be able to use the Macmini as an short-term alternative for intel-enabled software.
So, my question. Could I network my G4 powerbook and new macmini in such a way that I could run intel-enabled software on the mini, via my powerbook screen and keyboard. Effectively using my powerbook as a dumb terminal for the macmini.
Is that possible given the chipsets?MacEnstein. Welcome to discussions!
Best to start a new question - many people will stop looking here since it is marked answered. This lets you get the attention you deserve and keeps one problem per thread.
But - we are here - so let's see what happend.
Bonjour will find computers on the same network. That means unless you have gone to pains to set up two DHCP servers and change things substantially - things will work on most home networks.
Open the terminal application on both computers and do a netstat -nr - each should have the same gatway for the default destination and same network destination (look for 192.168.1/24 or similar) under the Gateway column where it says link#4
Most likely you will have IP addresses like 192.168.1.1 and 192.168.1/24 - feel free to start a new thread or post your netstat -nr results of it's not clear what I'm doing.
Also - you can simply test this out from the command prompt. Each machine is known by a host name - type hostname -s on each. If Bonjour is going to work - machine "a" should be able to ping machine "b" as follows:
ping b.local
the .local says use Bonjour to find the machine named b and ping it. -
New songs and new audio book from Audible will not sync from my computer. Any idea why?
I updated my 4S to OS7. I am now unable to sync new songs and new audiobook from Audible from my computer. Any idea why?
Might be incompatible with iOS 7.
Keep in mind, Audible is not Apple software and Apple is not responsible for third party software compatibility.
Check the Audibile website for iOS 7 support. -

Abhiram will address the following on the latest release of Cisco UCCX Version 10.0:
Installation
Upgrade from previous versions - both Linux and Windows
Migration from MCS to Cisco UCS environment - Different methods and best practices
New features - Overview and limitations
This discussion will center on install and upgrade best practices, changes in hardware support, and migration methods from MCS to Cisco UCS. He can also briefly discuss the new features introduced in 10.0. The discussion focuses the latest versions, but queries about general Cisco UCCX topics can be addressed too if time allows.
Abhiram Kramadhati is an engineer with the Contact Center Backbone group. He has been working with Cisco UCCX since he joined Cisco. During two years at Cisco, he has built his expertise around Cisco UCCX telephony applications, Java Telephony API (JTAPI) integration, Cisco UCCX system behavior, LDAP components, and Cisco UCCX as IP interactive voice response in Unified Contact Center Enterprise (UCCE) environments. Thanks for your questions.
1:Is there change in DB architecture as CUIC is the only option as compared to previous linux version UCCX ?
I assume this is from the tables regarding historical data. The database schema essentially remains the same since UCCX 9.0 had CUIC too and we had a seperate DB Space for CUIC and we still continue with that. The traditional historical tables remain and the replication process remains the same too.
2:Is there any version change for Linux OS used as VOS,
The Linux version is Red Hat Linux 5. To be precise:
[root@uccx10pub /]# cat etc/redhat-release
Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server release 5.7 (Tikanga)
3:Is there any API architecture change in UCCX 10 from previous releases ?
I can answer this more of an overview. The only enhancement in the API side is the introduction of REST API step in the script editor. You can now make REST calls from the script and this ofcourse opens up a whole new world of possiblities.
4:Since from UCCX 10 , we can only use either CAD or Finnesse at one time, whats the impact of changing this after some time in production, let say , i used CAD for 2 months and then i decided to move to Finesse, whats the impact ? or is it a smooth change as switching CUIC and HRC in previoius release ?
For the scenario you mentioned, there is absolutely no problem. The point to note is that the Finesse services are activated/deactivated but the CAD desktop services are ALWAYS running. The only condition to keep in mind is that you can use ONLY ONE type of agent desktop at any time. Also if Finesse is not used and CAD operations are used extensively, it is advisable to shutdown the Finesse service.
5:Is 3rd Party UCS hardware supported by UCCX 10 instead of using Cisco manufactured UCS , can i use HP hardware for Virtualisation ?
Yes, it can be used. This is something called as "Third party specs based specification". The most important things seen for compatibility are:
Inter CPU Model
It it is on thVMWare Hardware Compatibilty List
You can get more information about this on the "Can I use this server?" section of UC Virtualized Hardware page:
http://docwiki.cisco.com/wiki/UC_Virtualization_Supported_Hardware#.22Can_I_use_this_server.3F.22
6:Is Host name change supported?
Yes, the hostname change is supported. The prcocedure is documented in the UCCX 10.0 Administration Guide:
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/docs/voice_ip_comm/cust_contact/contact_center/crs/express_10_0/configuration/guide/UCCX_BK_W1AF9DDD_00_uccx-admin-guide-10.0.pdf (Pg 168)

Final Cut Pro 4.5 and Quicktime 7 compatibility issues. Error 39!
I see some people saying Quicktime 7 is not compatible with Final Cut 4.5 and some saying it is.
I upgraded to 10.3.9 and then Quicktime 7 and I started getting error 39 at this one spot in my timeline and then crashing if I tried to play just a few seconds ahead of that spot. I tried trashing the prefs but that didn't do any good. The individual files play fine outside the timeline so it isn't corrupt media. I tried rerendering the effects that are at that point but that didn't help. I tried copying the entire timeline to a new sequence and that didn't help.
The strange thing was that when I took the part of the movie that was having trouble and deleted it from the timeline it still got error 39 when just playing over the empty timeline where the media used to be! This led me to realize that the problem lay in some Quicktime audio effects I had about a second in front ot the error 39 spot. I took off the effects from that audio but it didn't help. Then I deleted that audio from the timeline and just pasted it back in from the original clip and then it finally got to working.
Now I know nothing about the software, but I thought there might be some connection between the fact that I had effects that FCP labels as "quicktime effects" on there from my days in Quicktime 6.5, then upgraded to Q7, and perhaps those old effects don't work in Q7? I don't know.
So, my immediate problem is solved but I thought this experience may be of use to someone else. And perhaps some compatibility issues can be brought to light.I would assume the Software Update program has sufficient logic within it to detect that my friend is running Final Cut Pro 4.0 and it would therefore be disastrous to install QuickTime 7.3, thus removing QuickTime 7.3 from her list of suggested updates. Would someone at Apple please fix this?
Sorry, but Quicktime is a component for SO MANY things, not just FCP. Sorry, but the OS doesn't detect that older versions of software are on there and won't be compatible...this is where you need to have a little knowledge. And sorry, but you need to have a little knowledge. If things are working, DO NOT UPGRADE unless it has been tested and cleared. In the case of FCP 4...it has not.
Rule of thumb...if you use older software, you have to stick to older versions of the OS and components that that software relies on.
How many things were broken with Vista? So many that the HUGE community let out a cry and now XP is available again configured on machines or as a stand alone buy. And no, Vista didn't warn that certain applications wouldn't work either.
You gotta research and find out. This place here...this forum...is a FANTASTIC place to find stuff like this out.
BTW...Apple doesn't read these forums, only us users. Gotta submit feedback here:

E2100L Cisco Connect and Network Magic compatibility issues with Mac OS X 10.7 Lion
When you will release the latest version for Wireless router Linksys E2100L?, because I bought a MAC with Lion and I can´t use my Router.
Regards,
DanielOlder versions of Cisco Connect for Mac computers have compatibility issues with the latest release of Mac OS X (10.7 “Lion”). Only Cisco Connect versions 1.4.11222 and newer are compatible with the Lion operating system.
Here is the link to ensure that Cisco Connect can be installed on your Mac: http://www6.nohold.net/Cisco2/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=a4e763be954243cfa0ab960c0fac7105_KB_23xxx_EN_v1.xm...
There is no such information about the release of Cisco Connect for E2100L for the Mac OS X (10.7 “Lion”) compatibility, so you need to wait for further release of the firmrware for E2100L. -

I'm considering getting the new Palm Treo (750p?) and wonder how compatability is with my MacBook and iSync? (The Apple iPhone is Cingular develped/related and I have no desire to ever deal with them!) Thanks--lanny turner
Hi Lanny
The Palm OS Treos are pretty consistent in their support for Mac integration - their installation disk will give you Palm Hotsync, which people either love or hate (in other words, it'll either work all the time, or you'll have a pig of a time figuring it out). Many people, myself included, switched to Missing Sync as a better solution (it replaces Hotsync and iSync on the desktop side).
You may also find answers here: TreoCentral Forums for Mac.
I have a feeling it'll be the 755p, though....
Good luck!

Hi All,
I have seen many open source api's where they are updating dates with the following code
new Date(System.currentTimeMillis())
when i print the new Date() it prints the same
what is the difference between using new Date() and new Date(System.currentTimeMillis()) ??
Thanks,
J.Kathirwhen i print the new Date() it prints the same
It does because of backward compatability. This constructor exists in version 1.3.1 but not in newer versions.Really ? Please point me to where you read that.
API doc 1.5 : new Date() (still there, not even deprecated)
A quick look at the code for this constructor: /**
* Allocates a <code>Date</code> object and initializes it so that
* it represents the time at which it was allocated, measured to the
* nearest millisecond.
* @see java.lang.System#currentTimeMillis()
public Date() {
this(System.currentTimeMillis());

I need OS 10.7 to sync my new iPhone 5 and new iPad 4 with my Mac Book Pro, but my MBPro has 10.5.8? What do I do? I want to fix my problem now, but it wants me to purchase the Snow Leopard software and wait for it to be delivered. Why can't I purchase it and then download? Any ideas?
Upgrade Paths to Snow Leopard, Lion, and/or Mountain Lion
You can upgrade to Mountain Lion from Lion or directly from Snow Leopard. Mountain Lion can be downloaded from the Mac App Store for $19.99. To access the App Store you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.6 or later installed.
Upgrading to Snow Leopard
You can purchase Snow Leopard through the Apple Store: Mac OS X 10.6 Snow Leopard — Apple Store (U.S.). The price is $19.99 plus tax. You will be sent physical media by mail after placing your order.
After you install Snow Leopard you will have to download and install the Mac OS X 10.6.8 Update Combo v1.1 to update Snow Leopard to 10.6.8 and give you access to the App Store. Access to the App Store enables you to download Mountain Lion if your computer meets the requirements.
Snow Leopard General Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel processor
2. 1GB of memory
3. 5GB of available disk space
4. DVD drive for installation
5. Some features require a compatible Internet service provider;
fees may apply.
6. Some features require Apple’s iCloud services; fees and
terms apply.
Upgrading to Lion
If your computer does not meet the requirements to install Mountain Lion, it may still meet the requirements to install Lion.
You can purchase Lion by contacting Customer Service: Contacting Apple for support and service — this includes international calling numbers. The cost is $19.99 (as it was before) plus tax. It's a download. You will get an email containing a redemption code that you then use at the Mac App Store to download Lion. Save a copy of that installer to your Downloads folder because the installer deletes itself at the end of the installation.
Lion System Requirements
1. Mac computer with an Intel Core 2 Duo, Core i3, Core i5, Core i7,
or Xeon processor
2. 2GB of memory
3. OS X v10.6.6 or later (v10.6.8 recommended)
4. 7GB of available space
5. Some features require an Apple ID; terms apply.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion
To upgrade to Mountain Lion you must have Snow Leopard 10.6.8 or Lion installed. Purchase and download Mountain Lion from the App Store. Sign in using your Apple ID. Mountain Lion is $19.99 plus tax. The file is quite large, over 4 GBs, so allow some time to download. It would be preferable to use Ethernet because it is nearly four times faster than wireless.
OS X Mountain Lion — System Requirements
Macs that can be upgraded to OS X Mountain Lion
1. iMac (Mid 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 7,1 or later
2. MacBook (Late 2008 Aluminum, or Early 2009 or newer) —
Model Identifier 5,1 or later
3. MacBook Pro (Mid/Late 2007 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
4. MacBook Air (Late 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 2,1 or later
5. Mac mini (Early 2009 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
6. Mac Pro (Early 2008 or newer) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
7. Xserve (Early 2009) — Model Identifier 3,1 or later
To find the model identifier open System Profiler in the Utilities folder. It's displayed in the panel on the right.
Are my applications compatible?
See App Compatibility Table — RoaringApps.

Question Reguarding the new windows compatable Macs
I have been reading a lot about the new windows compatibility on all new Macs. I also researched the software it requires. Is the new software needed to run all of my PC programs, or just anable me to use Windows OS? Does this new technology allow me to use ALL of my Windows software including third party programs like games and other apps?
Parallels is less suitable for playing games due to constraints on 3D graphics.

Mid Year Go Live-Australia and New Zealand
Hi,
We are implementing Mid Year Go Live for payroll for Australia and New Zealand.
In case of India, we have schema INLK and list of technical wage types that need to be uploaded to T558B and T558C.
SAP has delivered a note for Payroll India which gives the list of Technical wage types.
Pls suggest what are the technical wage types to be uploaded for Australia and New Zealand and the schema to be used for Mid Year Go Live.
Regards
YashikaHi,
as far as i know, there is no such schema or special wage types except the ones that are used for LSMW before go live.
In india, they might need the schema or technical wagetypes for the taxation purposes i guess which is different from AU or NZ.
but australia/newzealand have simplified the taxation for software provides.

macbook pro 15" mid 2010 i spilled water on keyboard now it wont power on if the battery is connected and the keys on keyboard doesnt work it works fine with no battery and external keyboard if i order a battery and new keyboard will every else work again lik it did before
If you have records that show that you've taken your MacBook Pro in for a year to fix the machine, I would escalate the problem to Apple Customer Relations - unfortunately I don't have a number for Spain.
It would only seem logical to me that if you've been trying to have the machine repaired during the time that the 'recall' was in effect that you should be eligible for a new logic board. But only customer relations will be able to make that call.
Good luck - take the issue as high up the food chain as you can and see what happens.

Pop-ups and new tabs opening when I try to browse
Hello
I'm having trouble with pop-ups and new tabs for 'Mackeeper' among others, launching themselves in Safari on my MacBook Air. This has only just started after having the laptop for 3 months.
Operating system: OS X 10.9.4 (13E28)
Speed: 1.4 GHz Intel Core i5
Storage capacity: 4 GB 1600 MHz DDR3
I have tried troubleshooting by looking in 'Extensions' but there's nothing to remove. I've also tried Forum Member Linc Davis' advice, but unfortunately that's not working either.
I've tried all of the suggestions below, but nothing's working. It is driving me bonkers, so if anyone can help I would be most grateful.
Thank you
Jess

You installed the "DownLite" trojan, perhaps under a different name. Remove it as follows.

Right-click or control-click the line and select
Services ▹ Reveal in Finder (or just Reveal)
from the contextual menu.* A folder should open with an item named "VSearch" selected. Drag the selected item to the Trash. You may be prompted for your administrator login password.
Repeat with each of these lines:
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.daemon.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/com.vsearch.helper.plist
/Library/LaunchDaemons/Jack.plist
Restart the computer and empty the Trash. Then delete the following items in the same way:
/Library/Application Support/VSearch
/Library/PrivilegedHelperTools/Jack
/System/Library/Frameworks/VSearch.framework
Some of these items may be absent, in which case you'll get a message that the file can't be found. Skip that item and go on to the next one.
From the Safari menu bar, select
Safari ▹ Preferences... ▹ Extensions
Uninstall any extensions you don't know you need, including any that have the word "Spigot" in the description. If in doubt, uninstall all extensions. Do the equivalent for the Firefox and Chrome browsers, if you use either of those.
This trojan is distributed on illegal websites that traffic in pirated movies. If you, or anyone else who uses the computer, visit such sites and follow prompts to install software, you can expect much worse to happen in the future.
You may be wondering why you didn't get a warning from Gatekeeper about installing software from an unknown developer, as you should have. The reason is that the DownLite developer has a codesigning certificate issued by Apple, which causes Gatekeeper to give the installer a pass. Apple could revoke the certificate, but as of this writing, has not done so, even though it's aware of the problem. This failure of oversight is inexcusable and has compromised both Gatekeeper and the Developer ID program. You can't rely on Gatekeeper alone to protect you from harmful software.
*If you don't see the contextual menu item, copy the selected text to the Clipboard by pressing the key combination command-C. In the Finder, select
Go ▹ Go to Folder...
from the menu bar and paste into the box that opens by pressing command-V. You won't see what you pasted because a line break is included. Press return.Click here and follow the instructions, or if there’s a type of adware not covered by them on the computer, these ones. If you're willing to use a tool to remove it(you don't need to, but may find it easier), you can instead run Adware Medic; this link is a direct download.
