IWS 6.1 SP6 - problem reloading *vsclassobj.conf files
Hi, I hope someone can point me in the right direction as this is starting to drive me round the bend :-(
In my configuration I require approx 80 virtual servers - one for each of the stores I support. When I am installing/configuring a new web server this creates a significant overhead.
I use the command line "HttpServerAdmin create" first to create a class then a virtual server both based on an input file.
Following that I have scripted the editing of those files to enable the multiple changes that are required.
EG adding 'Service method="(GET|HEAD)" type="magnus-internal/directory" fn="send-error" path="error.html" '
However when I enter the admin GUI, click manage server for the relevant server, click 'apply' then 'apply changes' to activate the changes, they are not reflected in the GUI.
Each time I go back to the web server the familiar "Warning: manual edits not loaded" pop up appears, and I perform the actions above again. Each time to no avail?
Any ideas anyone ?
Cheers
Chris
Hi,
I think the /config files are overwritten with the /conf_bk files when doing an apply/restart from the admin GUI - are your changes still in the /config files after the apply/restart? ...is there a file permissions problem - perhaps the admin GUI cannot write the changes to the /config files?
I could be missing the point altogether though...

Problem With httpd.conf and mod_rewrite rules Apache 2.2
I have some RewriteRules that are working on my Leopard Client Apache 2.2 machine - but when I try to implement them on Leopard Server Apache 2.2, they don't work. I don't get any errors, they just won't execute.
Could somebody with Leopard Server help me out using the below info?
Here are the rules I am trying to add: (below is the httpd.conf file)

=========HTTPD.CONF=============
#### Default httpd.conf for Mac OS X Server, Apache 2.2
#### This httpd.conf differs from the httpd.conf distributed
#### with Apache and the httpd.conf present on Mac OS X.
#### Feel free to edit this; the Server Admin app also edits this file but will
#### respect your changes unless noted below. See also ReadMe.txt.
## ServerRoot: The top of the directory tree under which the server's
## configuration, error, and log files are kept.
## NOTE! If you intend to place this on an NFS (or otherwise network)
## mounted filesystem then please read the LockFile documentation
## (available at <URL:<a class="jive-link-external-small" href="http://">http://www.apache.org/docs/mod/core.html#lockfile>);
## you will save yourself a lot of trouble.
## Do NOT add a slash at the end of the directory path.
ServerRoot "/usr"
## PidFile: The file in which the server should record its process
## identification number when it starts.
PidFile /var/run/httpd.pid
## ScoreBoardFile: File used to store internal server process information.
## Not all architectures require this. But if yours does (you'll know because
## this file will be created when you run Apache) then you must ensure that
## no two invocations of Apache share the same scoreboard file.
#ScoreBoardFile "/var/run/apache2runtimestatus"
## Server-pool size regulation. Rather than making you guess how many
## server processes you need, Apache dynamically adapts to the load it
## sees --- that is, it tries to maintain enough server processes to
## handle the current load, plus a few spare servers to handle transient
## load spikes (e.g., multiple simultaneous requests from a single
## Netscape browser).
## It does this by periodically checking how many servers are waiting
## for a request. If there are fewer than MinSpareServers, it creates
## a new spare. If there are more than MaxSpareServers, some of the
## spares die off. The default values are probably OK for most sites.
MinSpareServers 1
MaxSpareServers 1
## Number of servers to start initially --- should be a reasonable ballpark
## figure.
StartServers 1
## MaxRequestsPerChild: the number of requests each child process is
## allowed to process before the child dies. The child will exit so
## as to avoid problems after prolonged use when Apache (and maybe the
## libraries it uses) leak memory or other resources. On most systems, this
## isn't really needed, but a few (such as Solaris) do have notable leaks
## in the libraries. For these platforms, set to something like 10000
## or so; a setting of 0 means unlimited.
## NOTE: This value does not include keepalive requests after the initial
## request per connection. For example, if a child process handles
## an initial request and 10 subsequent "keptalive" requests, it
## would only count as 1 request towards this limit.
MaxRequestsPerChild 100000
## Dynamic Shared Object (DSO) Support
## To be able to use the functionality of a module which was built as a DSO you
## have to place corresponding `LoadModule' lines at this location so the
## directives contained in it are actually available before they are used.
## Please read the file http://httpd.apache.org/docs/dso.html for more
## details about the DSO mechanism and run `httpd -l' for the list of already
## built-in (statically linked and thus always available) modules in your httpd
## binary.
## Note: The order in which modules are loaded is important. Don't change
## the order below without expert advice.
## Example:
## LoadModule foo_module libexec/mod_foo.so
#### For Mac OS X Server: Note that the Server Admin application
#### and the apxs utility enable and disable modules
#### by removing and adding a comment character.

# Settings for hosting different languages.
# Required modules: mod_mime, mod_negotiation
# DefaultLanguage and AddLanguage allows you to specify the language of
# a document. You can then use content negotiation to give a browser a
# file in a language the user can understand.
# Specify a default language. This means that all data
# going out without a specific language tag (see below) will
# be marked with this one. You probably do NOT want to set
# this unless you are sure it is correct for all cases.
# * It is generally better to not mark a page as
# * being a certain language than marking it with the wrong
# * language!
# DefaultLanguage nl
# Note 1: The suffix does not have to be the same as the language
# keyword --- those with documents in Polish (whose net-standard
# language code is pl) may wish to use "AddLanguage pl .po" to
# avoid the ambiguity with the common suffix for perl scripts.
# Note 2: The example entries below illustrate that in some cases
# the two character 'Language' abbreviation is not identical to
# the two character 'Country' code for its country,
# E.g. 'Danmark/dk' versus 'Danish/da'.
# Note 3: In the case of 'ltz' we violate the RFC by using a three char
# specifier. There is 'work in progress' to fix this and get
# the reference data for rfc1766 cleaned up.
# Catalan (ca) - Croatian (hr) - Czech (cs) - Danish (da) - Dutch (nl)

========HTTPD.CONF==========I am modifying the correct httpd.conf file on the server, it just doesn't seem to work. - If I put the rewrite rules in the <Directory /> the rewrite works but it adds /Library/WebServer/Documents to the URL.
I also tried putting the rewrite rules in <IfModule mod_rewrite.c> but that did not work either.
mod_rewrite is enabled and running on the server.
I will post the rewrite rules again in the code brackets. Sorry for the long post. - If some one can try them out on their Leopard Server to see if they can get them to work, it would be much appreciated. Again, these work on my Leopard Client but I can't get them to work on Server.

Please help! Strange problem with HTTPD.Conf and OC4J (I think)
Hi,
We have been trying to configure the 10g "infrastructure" Apache server/instance to work with our own authentication module, and as part of this, we need to configure a directory alias containing some of our JSPs. To do this, the only thing that we did was that we took the standard HTTPD.CONF file that got installed with the 10g AS installation, and added a small section at the end.
However, we are finding that if our addition to the HTTPD.CONF is included, instead of the JSPs in our aliased directory being processed, Apache seems to be just serving the JSPs as text pages :(..
If we remove the section at the end of the HTTPD.CONF, and point a browser to the unaliased path, the JSPs get processed correctly.
I was wondering if anyone here might take a look at our HTTPD.CONF below, and tell me if you can see something there that might be causing this behavior? The section that we added is at the very end. We think that the problem might be something like the "order" of the directives, etc. in the HTTPD.CONF file may be such that the alias is taking priority ahead of the OC4J, or something like that.
Thanks in advance, and apologies for the long message.
Jim

</IfModule>Hi,
I wanted to post what we found on this.
As indicated in my original msg, we had an Alias directory in the httpd.conf. However, after thinking about the problem a bit, I think that the Alias was not the right thing to do.
The Alias tells Apache to map a URL fragment to a FILESYSTEM location. Well, obviously, Apache only SERVES pages... it doesn't process JSPs.
We switched to using a Redirect directive instead of the Alias, and things worked a little better, but we've run into a bit of a problem with "Redirect looping", but that's a different story :)...

Stacking Problem in pam.conf on Solaris 10 ?
Hi all,
I have pam.conf with enteries for
# Default definition for Password management
# Used when service name is not explicitly mentioned for password management
*other password required pam_dhkeys.so.1*
*other password requisite pam_authtok_get.so.1*
*other password requisite pam_authtok_check.so.1*
*other password required pam_authtok_store.so.1*
As per my understanding the
(I) SPI pam_authtok_get.so.1 is used to get the user credentials from password DB.
(II) SPI pam_authtok_check.so.1* is used to check if the new password supplied is satisfying the password policy on the OS ( by reading values from /etc/default/passwd )
(III) SPI pam_authtok_store.so.1* is used to store the newly entered password to password db.
Please correct me if I am wrong anywhere.
Now I have a requirement thar an application has to be wriiten which will just check that the entered password satisfies the password policies of the OS or not, but it should not update the password DB(should not store the password)
I make the following enteries in my pam.conf
osPasswdCheck password required pam_dhkeys.so.1
osPasswdCheck password requisite pam_authtok_get.so.1
osPasswdCheck password requisite pam_authtok_check.so.1
I removed the entry for pam_authtok_store.so.1 as I dont want to store the but when I run my application it always give error 20 authentication manipulation error.
please refer (/usr/include/security/pam_appl.h)
I have done all the formalities w.r.t writing a PAM Conversation funtion and the application is returning success when I add the pam_authtok_store.so.1 into the SPI
Please anyone can help me out.Is there is anyother way with which I can use my application just to check password (w.r.t. OS policy) .
I will be really thankful if anybody can provide me with working PAM Modules stack for achieving it.
Thanks in advcance.
Regards,
Rahul.
but I dont want to store it.Why not just keep the "pam_authtok_store.so.1" line in your pam.conf file and set it to a level of "requisite" or lower? I haven't tried it myself yet, but I've found that in the past when editing this file, completely removing a line rather than giving the PAM stack what it would expect to see with that line being there in some way can also cause problems.

Hi,
I'm working with two spark solaris 9 servers in cluster running sun one 6.1 web servers. The servelets/jsp applications have problems reloading a changed class. The java applications are in a storage engine connected by nfs to the servers. We Ussually work in the master server that it's similar to the slave in its java and webserver configuration. there isn't any difference beetwen the servers in the java applications enviroment. But always we compile in the master server. The changed class loads correctly and quickly (few seconds) in the master server but the slave fails to load it. what's wrong? why it happens?The servers don't share the same instance dir, each webserver is locally installed. They only share the content directory: java classes , html files and cgi programs. Anyway may be that the secondary server has problem loading the class from the storage. I changed the parameter dynamicreloadinterval to make a bigest delay in this server. Before this change almost in the same time both the servers tryed to load the same class. I didn't test , i hope it works.
The issue is that if this true, i should see the same fenomena with other files types, not only with classes and it doesn't happen. -

Hi,
I'm using the photo galleries example.
But in my program, I modify the xml files
(galleries.xml,gallery.xml...).
My problem is when I modify the xml files and refresh the
page. It's not modified.
Every time, I need to delete the internet cache files.
I try to put this function dsGalleries.loadData() but it
doesn't work.
Do you have an idea?
ThanksActually, my problem is simple. Firefox refresh very well my
page but internet explorer doesn't reload the xml files.
I know that the problem is really famous. I found a lot of
topics in your forum and on the internet but anyone couldn't solve
it.
I put this in my page:
<meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html;
charset=ISO-8859-1" />
<meta http-equiv="Last-Modified"
content="date(DATE_RFC822)">
<meta http-equiv="Pragma" content="no-cache">
<meta http-equiv="Expires" content="date(DATE_RFC822,
mktime() - 3600)">
<meta http-equiv="Cache-Control"
content="no-cache,must-revalidate">
But it's the same problem.
Do you have a solution?
Thanks -
Problems modifying the httpd.conf file
We are running Flash Media Server 4.5 on Windows Server 2008. We want to move the vod folder which by default is in webroot. We create a new vod folder and then modify the httpd.conf file so that it points to the new vod location. We then stop and restart the Flash Media Server service. However, the server acts like the old paths are cached somewhere in the system. Videos in the new vod folder do not work. Videos in the old vod folder open even though the httpd.conf file was modified.
We made sure that the client browsers on which we tested this had their cache cleared.
Anyone have any ideas what might be going on here?Thanks for your reply! I tried restarting the FMSHttpd service separately. Still encountering this issue, however.
Here's what we are doing:
1. We create a new vod folder.
2. We modify the httpd.conf file in Flash Media folder -> Apache2.2 -> conf so that it points to the new vod location. For example, we make a modification to HttpStreamingContentPath like the following:
<IfModule jithttp_module>
<Location /hds-vod>
HttpStreamingJITPEnabled true
HttpStreamingContentPath "..\..\[new vod folder]"
HttpStreamingJITConfAllowed true
JitFmsDirPath ".."
Options -Indexes FollowSymLinks
# Uncomment the following directives to enable encryption
# for this location.
# EncryptionScope server
# ProtectionScheme phds
</Location>
</IfModule>
3. We restart the FMSHttpd service.
After doing this, we find that the path to the old vod folder is still working. Videos in the new vod folder don't open as expected.
Are there any other steps that we should be taking? Many thanks for any help. -
Httpd.conf file missing in action
This is a weird one. I want to modify my httpd.conf file so my URL's all default to lower case. I'm using MAMP, so I navigated to Applications > MAMP, opened the file, modified it and restarted my server. (I also modified an .htaccess file.)
I then added the code LogLevel trace8 to my config file, with the understanding that I would see more "verbose" messages in my error log. Afterr restarting my servers, I reloaded my web page, then checked the log - nothing changed. That is, the log is recording my activity, but it doesn't display "verbose" messages.
Someone who was helping me on an Apache forum came to thte conclusion that my httpd.conf fiile isn't being used. So I typed httpd.conf into Apple's finder and, sure enough, I found half a dozen files with that name. I couldn't determine which is the right one, so I modifed all of them and restarted my serverrs again. There's STILL no change in my URL's, and my log is still recording generic messages.
Does anyone have any idea how I can solve this problem? First, am I correct in understanding that there must be at least ONE active httpd.conf files in order for my sites to function? If so, then I know there must be an invisible httpd.conf file somewhere on my MacBook that I need to locate.
Also, is it possible for error messages to be written to more than one Apache log at a time? It's just so strange that the error log in my Applications > MAMP folder is keeping tabs on the web pages I visit when the httpd.conf file in the same folder is apparently doing nothing.
Thanks for any tips.MAMP is not Apple software and is well outside the normal 'consumer' stuff they deal with in Apple stores, I therefore don't think a Genius would be either will or able to investigate this. However I can provide the following information and maybe others who have used MAMP can provide more.
/etc/apache2/httpd.conf is the file used on a standard OS X Mac
/Library/Server/Web/Config/apache2/httpd_server_app.conf is the equivalent file used on a Mac server if you have installed Apple's Server.app
I have seen conflicting comments suggesting the location for the equivalent file for MAMP is -
/Applications/MAMP/conf/apache/httpd.conf
or
~/Library/Application Support/appsolute/MAMP PRO/httpd.conf
The following might be helpful http://foundationphp.com/tutorials/vhosts_mamp.php -

I've seen instructions all over the internet about rewriting a .conf file to get Apache to see your user "Sites" folder in Mountain Lion. Mine refuses to work. The server still works at localhost, but localhost/~user will not, I get "Safari cannot connect to server localhost."
I'm really the only user that uses it, is there any problem with just changing to document root in the httpd.conf file to /Users/user/Sites?
Or, any ideas about the user.conf file? Permissions are correct, file is correct, apache restarted.Interesting. I ran apachectl configtest, and it found a syntax error in my user.conf file, which I thought I deleted. All this time I've been working in /etc/apache2/users, as the online tutorials specify. The other .conf file, brought to my attention by the configtest, is in /private/etc/apache2/users.
The error: a space between allow,deny.
Fixed the error... all is well. Thanks for the configtest tip... I never knew about that one. -
Error in the isqlplus.conf file?
Is there anyone else out there that gets this message? Each time I try to run my HTTP server to access iSQL*Plus, I get:
"Syntax error on line 92 of c:/oracle/ora92/sqlplus/admin/isqlplus.conf: FastCgiServer: redefinition of a previously defined FastCGI server "c:/oracle/ora92/bin/isqlplus"
Does anyone know how I can adjust this config file, or otherwise fix this problem?
Other than that, the Enterprise edition is up and running, including the SQL Plus app.
Any advice is greatly appreciated.
Thanks!
EricHi Alison,
Thanks for the response! Unfortunately, I tried both of these, and neither seems to apply:
http://otn.oracle.com/support/tech/sql_plus/htdocs/runtime.html#isql_duplicate_entriesAt first, I thought this would be the problem, since I installed twice, but there was only one oracle_apache.conf file in the directory...
http://otn.oracle.com/support/tech/sql_plus/htdocs/runtime.html#isql_mutex_errorThis one actually talks about a different config file. I'm getting errors on my isqlplus.conf file. It's saying that there's an error b/c of "FastCGIServer: Redefinition of a previously defined Fast CGI Server" Here's what the config file looks like on that (in relevant part):
# Maps all virtual paths beginning with "/isqlplus*" to the iSQL*Plus
# FastCGI application
<IfModule mod_alias.c>
ScriptAliasMatch ^/isqlplus(.*) C:\oracle\ora92\bin\isqlplus
ScriptAliasMatch ^/isqlplusdba(.*) C:\oracle\ora92\bin\isqlplus
<Directory "C:\oracle\ora92\bin">
AllowOverride None
Options FollowSymLinks
Order deny,allow
Allow from all
</Directory>
</IfModule>
The other reference to the FastCGI server is here: <<#
# Setup the iSQL*Plus FastCGI application.
<IfModule mod_fastcgi.c>
FastCgiServer C:\oracle\ora92\bin\isqlplus -port 8228 -initial-env iSQLPlusNumberOfThreads=20 -initial-env iSQLPlusTimeOutInterval=30 -initial-env iSQLPlusLogLevel=off -initial-env iSQLPlusAllowUserEntMap=none -idle-timeout 3600
</IfModule>
Not sure about where else this FastCGI Server might be called, but it looks like one of the definitions is typographically different from the other. Could this be the issue?

Script to edit conf files: suggestions & comment sought
I have this script to edit conf files in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME. It works fine:
#!/bin/sh
dir=$XDG_CONFIG_HOME/$1
if [ -d "$dir" ]; then
for f in $dir/* ; do
file=${f##*/}
case $file in
*conf | config | *.cfg | *rc) $EDITOR "$f" ;;
esac
done
fi
It has already been pointed out that this could easily be achieved in Bash 4 with:
#!/bin/bash
shopt -s extglob failglob
$EDITOR ~/.config/$1/@(conf|config|*.cfg|*rc)
The shortcoming with my script is that it only handles files correctly placed in $XDG_CONFIG_HOME, and as many apps litter thier conf files about the shop, I wanted to try something that dealt with those cases. Hence this.
#!/bin/sh
dirs=($HOME/.$1* $HOME/.$1/ $XDG_CONFIG_HOME/$1/)
search=$(find "${dirs[@]}" -type f \( -name "*.conf" -o -name "conf" -o -name \
"config" -o -name "*rc" -o -name "*.cfg" \) 2>/dev/null )
for f in $search; do
$EDITOR "$f"
done
...which again works, but seems pretty ugly.
I'd appreciate any comments on approaches to the same problem that achieve the result in a more efficient and portable way.
Last edited by jasonwryan (2011-10-18 02:53:06)Instead of:
search=$(find "${dirs[@]}" -type f \( -name "*.conf" -o -name "conf" -o -name \
"config" -o -name "*rc" -o -name "*.cfg" \) 2>/dev/null )
You should either read the results into an array and act on the array, or launch the editor straight from find via exec.
Using an array:
IFS=$'\n' read -r -d '' -a files < \
<(find "${dirs[@]}" -type f \( -name "*.conf" -o -name "conf" -o -name "config" -o -name "*rc" -o -name "*.cfg" \) 2>/dev/null
(( ${#files[*]} )) && "$EDITOR" "${files[@]}"
Usind only find:
find "${dirs[@]}" -type f \( -name "*.conf" -o -name "conf" -o -name "config" -o -name "*rc" -o -name "*.cfg" \) -exec "$EDITOR" {} +
I prefer the second method -- its right to the point and isn't shell specific. It is, however, somewhat GNU find specific. -
[Solvedish] Can color depth be changed in X with no xorg.conf file?
I have a laptop that's working perfectly with no xorg.conf file except for the color depth is at 16 and I want it at 24. Can color depth be changed in X with no xorg.conf file? (I already tried the amazing three line xorg.conf file to no avail.)
Last edited by skottish (2008-03-09 03:15:11)Won't work on a running X session, and has the same effect as the aforementioned xorg.conf file if run before starting X.
I may just have to make a new xorg.conf file. The last one decided it hated some upgrade I made and started wreaking havoc all over my system. Crashes and lockups and flickers galore!
--EDIT--
It turns out that the xf86-video-intel driver was my problem all along. I reverted to the i810 driver and my xorg file works again (it has more than three lines).
