IX2-DL and USB Storage

I have the IX2-DL with WD RE4 2TB drives.
I also have a 1.5TB Seagate Barracuda I have attached to the IX2 via USB port.
I just finished migrating my data off of the Barracuda over to the NAS and want to setup copy jobs to the Barracuda just in case the IX2 fails.
How do I go about creating a copy job to external storage?
I have thought about mapping the external device as a drive letter and using Windows File Sharing to copy to that map drive on my laptop, but dont think this is a very good way to do it. I would rather go from the NAS to USB attached storage if at all possible.
I am running: Firmware version 4.1.108.32627

Technically you could share your windows user folder to the network so copy jobs can backup anything in that directory. However there are hidden folders which are not usually backed up such as the AppData folder.
Other than that, copy jobs would not be able to copy select folders from a directory, it's an all or nothing option.
If this is something that you need I recommend looking into using backup and restore (win7) , file history (win8), or another 3rd party backup utility to manage your backups to the NAS.

EA4500 Mac OS X Lion and USB storage

Hello everybody, I have EA4500 and usb had drive attached to router.
Ok, I can acces USB storage through FTP on my Mac OS X, I can acces it through smb in Windows 7 (running on the same macbook in vmware) but i can't acces it through smb directly from mac os (finder).
I tried finder-->Go-->connect to server and entered smb://192.168.111.1/Data or smb://admin:[email protected]/Data anyway i had error "The share does not exist on the server. Please check the share name, and then try again."
Also, I installed XBMC for MAC and XBMC can acces to storage by smb.
Where I am wrong?
PS. Drive formatted as HFS+ MBP early 2011 (OS X Lion or OS X Mountain Lion GM doesnt matter dont working in both). Connected to EA4500 by ethernet (wifi connection dont work too)

V-cast setup issue; turning USB storage off

.I am trying to use V-cast. Media Manager.
I've installed the app on my Droid X and on my desktop. I have the USB cable connected and I have V-Case MM open on my desktop. Everything seems to be set to "Go" until I launch V-cast on the phone.
When I do that I get the following error: "Memory card error, card mounted or not present. Please make sure memory card is inserted and USB storage is turned off."
I know the card is present, and mounted because the Droid X comes with the card already installed.
But I went to "Settings/SD card & phone storage settings" just to be sure. It shows "Total space 14.87GB" and "Available space 14.80GB", and an "Mount SD Card" option. "Internal phone storage" shows 6.22GB of available space.
Now here's the rub.
When I plug in the USB cable in the SD card data information changes to "unavailable" and the "Unmount..." option changes to "Mount SD card".
I'm guessing the issue is with the last part of the error message: "USB storage is turned off" but I don't know how to turn it on.
What is USB storage? Is it to off site storage option Verizon offers? Am I required to "Subscribe" in order for this app to work?

I believe you have to be in PC Mode not Mass Storage... Try changing that under mount options.

My new iPhone 5 won't connect to iTunes, and when I connect to my computer it comes up as a usb storage device, also in the phone itself under usage it shows internal memory of 2gb and sd card 64 gb, is this an original iPhone or have I been sold a copy

It does not use SD cards.
Fake iphones are really Android phones using the skin of iOS6.
Click on the App Store icon. If it takes you to Apple's App Store, then it's a real iPhone.
But if you are directed to Google Play, then I'm afraid you've gotten a copy.

I am trying to add music to my computer and then put it on a usb storage device

ok i havent used a computer in a very long time and the last time i did things seemed a whole lot easier. i got a new laptop for valentines day and i still aint figured this thing out. what i am trying to do is add all my music cds to my computer, make some playlists, then download the music to a usb storage device so i can have the music in my truck.
when i put a cd in my computer it pops up and it starts playing but i have no clue as what to do next. i have tried to make a playlist through the player that pops up and plays the music but aint having any luck. IM CLUELESS!!!! nothing ive tried has wroked, i need help please.

The below link shows how to create playlist in Itunes. Once the playlist is created, if you are using apple Ipod or any other apple product. Then once you connect the device it will start the sync with the device and then you can start playing.

I agree with teh OWC sggestion above, but why must it be USB powered? I find that far more unreliable, and the low power devices slow.
I'd frankly get a good external enclosure and buy a bare drive. But the OWC stuff is quite good - vastly better than some of the majors (WD being aprime example of stuff that's boderline quality and often not compatible)

The flash drive should show in the "Computer" view ( on WinXP is was called "My Computer" ) similar to a drive. Just double click on the flash drive and then paste the songs.
DRM - Digital Rights Management- It prevents moving songs from being moved around between devices.

Select "export' while in Windoz/Outlook and cerate an export file, then while in MacOS/Outlook select "import" and select the same file to import. You can use a thumb drive to sneakernet the file.

USB Storage and View Cluster

Hello all
We are using SunRay Server 5 on Solaris 10 x86 and a Windows Cluster of 2003 Sever in NLB mode. When we try to use a USB storage on a DTU the session hangs and the user is disconected. We are using the latest version of VMWare View and VMWare View Connector, it seems that when we dont use the cluster the USB redirection seems to work. Does any one suffered this problem?

I don't know, if this problem depends on MAC OS X version, but I'm using Tiger, and had the same problem at first. I've read several forums and discussions about, but didn't find any solution. And then i found Yevgen's note in this forum about he thinks that it's some kind of file system level problem. So I started Disk Utility, and checked the details. It seemed to be ok, but to make sure, I chose Repair on the disk represented the memory card. It helped for me, now I can use it as a USB Mass Storage under MAC as it's also working in Windows without any problem.

Not via Time Machine. It cannot back up from a network location.
The 3rd-party apps CarbonCopyCloner and ChronoSync may be workable alternatives.
EDIT: And, if you're going to do that, you could back up from the Time Capsule to a USB drive connected to the TC's USB port. Second TC not required.

How can I see file with chinese name in Sunray USB storage?

I installed Sunray4u3 on Solaris0805. the application server is win2003EE.
I accessed usb storage from win2003, but I can only see files with English name , and could not see files with chinese name. Why? who can help?

You might want to make sure your credit card is listed in the billing information associated with your Apple ID (see http://support.apple.com/kb/ht1918).
Also, to change the From name that appears when you address emails on and iOS device, go to Settings>Mail,Contacts,Calendars...tap your iCloud email account, tap you iCloud account at the top, tap Mail at the bottom, then enter the name you want to use in the Name field at the top.
To change the From name on your Mac Mail, go to icloud.com, sign into your account, open Mail, click the gear shaped icon on the bottom left and choose Preferences, go to the Accounts tab and enter the name you want to use in the Full Name field and click Done. Then quit Mail on your Mac and re-open it. Your new From name should now appear in the drop-down list when you compose a new email.

USB storage with WRT610N....help!

After spending 4 hours (no exageration) with Linksys Level 2 tech support I am at my wits end....
I just purchased a WRT610N and want to use the USB storage feature to backup my primary desktop. Here's the specifics:
Desktop is an older Dell XPS runnings XP SP3. Desktop has three logons....for myself and my kids.
I'd also like each desktop logon to be able to access the router USB storage feature so that we have a common place for pictures, etc.
I have an office laptop and I would like this to access the storage device
Eventually I will be adding more computers to the network for my kids.
I'm also interested in using the FTP access to get to the files on the storage device when I am away from home.
Through 3 separate tech support calls, each tech tried a different approach to get this to work. Nothing worked. I want to start from scratch.... What is the best way to accomplish what I want to do? After suffering through the pain, is the WRT610N a good solution or should I return it to Amazon and do this some other way?
A final note, tech support did upgrade the WRT610N's firmware to 1.00.00.18.

The harsh reality is that the results for people trying to use the Storage Link function have been mixed, at best. Especially in trying to utilize it for a "backuP' function. The kernel used to manage the Storage Link is apparently unix/linux based, and has some difficulty playing nice with Windows based backup utilities. Additionally, there have been reports that the connectivity to the attached devices is, at times, poor. Finally, there are issues with file corruption (date/time stamps, specifically). There have been no firmware updates to deal with these issues. If your primary need is for an attached NAS solution, I would strongly recommend looking at other devices for that solution.

My iphone external hard drive keeps disconnecting so it tells me I disconnected improperly. I have changed electric cord directly to outlet and usb also direct, and it still happens.

I store ALL my photos (400 events) on an external 1T hard drive. The hard drive keeps disconnecting so it get a msg telling me I disconnected improperly basically which is a serious no no. I then have to re-start. I have tried connecting directly to the wall outlet, to a super duper surge protector and also have connected the usb (was on a usb port) directly to the computer. But it continues to happen a total nusance. What do I do?

I would first contact Seagate's tech support for a possible solution. If that doesn't prove successful then I would try a different product or consider building your own.

Although you can buy a complete external drive system, you can also put one together if you are so inclined. It's relatively easy and only requires a Phillips head screwdriver (typically.) You can purchase hard drives separately. This gives you an opportunity to shop for the best prices on a hard drive of your choice. Reliable brands include Seagate, Hitachi, Western Digital, Toshiba, and Fujitsu. You can find reviews and benchmarks on many drives at Storage Review.
Enclosures for FireWire and USB are readily available. You can find only FireWire enclosures, only USB enclosures, and enclosures that feature multiple ports. I would stress getting enclosures that use the Oxford chipsets especially for Firewire drives (911, 921, 922, for example.) You can find enclosures at places such as;

All you need do is remove a case cover, mount the hard drive in the enclosure and connect the cables, then re-attach the case cover. Usually the only tool required is a small or medium Phillips screwdriver.

Windows Server 2012 Group Policy Block USB Storage devices @ User Level Not getting applied on a Domain Client machine with Windows Server 2008 R2. Why?

I have a Windows Server 2012 R2.
I have configured the Group Policy on it to block the usage of USB - Storage Devices @ user level on the client machines. It works properly for my Windows 7 client machines but it's not working on one of the machine having Windows Server 2008 R2 installed
on it (this machine is also a domain client in the same domain).
I will really be thankful if anyone can suggest some solution to this issue.
Please feel free to write back in-case I have missed anything obvious to be shared.

USB storage devices not being recognised

Product:
13" Macbook Pro w/ Retina Display (Late 2013 model)
OS X Yosemite (version 10.10.2)
2.4GHz i5, 8gb 1600 MHz DDR3, 256gb HDD
Issue:
- macbook unable to recognise USB storage devices.
- can be found on disk utility but 'greyed out'.
- cannot be found under devices in finder.
- tried restarting laptop, no effect.
- additional storage via Nifty + 64gb micro SD is working fine.
- apple products (iPod/iPhone/iPad) and printer/scanner working fine, only storage devices appear to be affected.
- USB-ethernet adapter appears to be working w/o problems too.
- last technical thing done to the computer was SMC reset 5 days ago for power cable light not working properly (fixed with reset).
Hello everyone,
I seem to having some issues with my macbook and the ability to use USB storage devices. The SD card slot appears to be working fine as I have a nifty device attached on. I'm not sure exactly when this started to happen but it was working last week for sure.
I've put some succinct notes above for anyone who is willing to help out and is able to use it to determine the problem but I don't think it's a hardware issue. Maybe it's a bug with the new OS X update over the weekend?
I've attached a screenshot of the disk utility below as well.
If anyone could help me out then that would be greatly appreciated.

Some users on another Apple thread had success in running Kext Utility last November with similar issues.
I ran kext utility 2.6.1, restarted my computer and everything was working again.
