Ix4-300d can I run Rsync copy jobs accoss VPN

I want to set up a point to point VPN to an offsite location with an ix4-300d at each location then run copy jobs between the devices. By necessity these will be different subnets (172.16.16.x and 172.16.20.x) The user guide seems to indicate that the devices have to be on the same subnet. I need a definitive answer. Can I install an ix4-300d at each location and schedule copy jobs between the two?

Rsync Copy Job Failure ix4-300d

I'm trying to run Copy Jobs between two new ix4-300d devices Firmware 4.0.6 I prefer to use SSL and rsync. So far I can't get it to work.
I can access the remote ix4, browse directories and upload files. When I set up a Copy Job from my local system (a) I'm not offered rsync as a protocol option in the "From" box, but I can select the directory to copy from using Windows File Sharing. In the "To" box, I select rsync and input username and password and can browse the remote ix4 shares to select the directory I want to copy to. However, when I run the Copy Job, I get the message "Access denied to the secure rsync service at <IP Address>"
I have tried disabling rsync and using only Windows File Sharing, but that configuration will not let me into the remote ix4. I have also tried disabling SSL being required on external connections and that does not work either. My sense is that rsync is actually working, but I have something set wrong.

Got it solved. I need to add the remote ix4 as a trusted device to my local ix4. Eventually figured out how to do that. Copy Jobs run fine now with rsync.
We could use better documentation.

Rsync Copy Job Best Practices for SAN to SAN - px12-450r

When setting up an rsycn copy job from one px12-450r to another which protocal is preferred for sending and receiving sides?
In other words, I have configured the copy jobs and it will not allow rsync as protocal on both sides. Currently I have rsync on sending side and windows file sharing on recieving side. Is this correct? Or vice versa? Any advice is appreciated! Oh, this is copying over WAN.

Thanks for your response. I do have rysnc enabled on both SANs under Protocols. It's when setting up the "copy job" that I recieve an error stating "The rsync protocal cannot be used in both source and destination devices".

Reports 6i without report server, can I run schedule report job ?

I use Reports 6i, no Report Server, can I run schedule job to print reports in the midnight?....In server side is better, but if in client side will be ok...

Yes, you can run a schedule job to print reports at a scheduled time. Below is how (done in command prompt):
h:\>at /?
The AT command schedules commands and programs to run on a computer at
a specified time and date. The Schedule service must be running to use
the AT command.

AT [\\computername] time [INTERACTIVE]

id                 Is an identification number assigned to a scheduled

                   confirmation is desired.
time               Specifies the time when command is to run.
/interactive       Allows the job to interact with the desktop of the user

I would like to run a report in Background job , for this i need to pick a file from front end services(Local drive or share folder)
Is there any alternate FM=>GUI_UPLOAD to upload data from front end services or any other solution for this?
I am getting error=> "No batch" and " Cannot perform frontend function in batch input mode"

Hello Prasad,
IF you keep your file on a shared folder on your front end, you can access it via OPEN DATASET if your application server has access to that path.
You can test it out by asking Basis to try and access your front end file from the app server itself.

Rsync copy jobs not working

I had to replace disks in the destination ix2-dl-86 and I wanted to copy the data from the from drive to the to drive and I keep getting the following error:
No folders to be copied.

The destination drive is in good shape. I can mannually copy folders and files to it. I also updated both drives with the latest software.

I would recommend calling tech support directly. This seems to be an in-depth issue that may be difficult to trouble shoot over forums.
They should be able to collect additional info like a dump file to help diagnose the issue more effectively.

I need to set the profile path to be system name dependent on linux. I have a set of servers that share home directories, so I can only run 1 copy of firefox on 1 of the servers.

I have a group of 20 systems running RHEL 5.5 that share home directories. so my profile is located on each machine at /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/<unique string>.default
this path is set by the file /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/profiles.ini.
trying to open firefox on any system other than the first gives the "Firefox is already running, but is not responding." message.
If I could make the profile sit at /home/<username>/.mozilla/firefox/<sysname>/<unique name >.default, then each system should be able to have 1 browser open at the same time...

You can create shortcuts to open each instance with an absolute path to a specific profile instead of using profiles.ini

Ok, so I'm deploying an image through a classroom I and some fellow students are studying in. I installed the offline CCNA material on it, because this image isn't supposed to have Internet access required to read it online.
It works fine when logged in as Admin, on both IE9 and Firefox. However, the students don't have administrator access to the PCs, and for some reason this prevents them from opening the files properly. It either shows just the "Show Accessible theme" hyperlink at the top, which links to a barely functional version of the material, or shows the index page as normal but fails to launch the course with no error message or anything.
Does anyone know why this happens, or how to fix it? Thanks.

check with your systems admin. maybe you have a GPO preventing the application from being opened.

Strange behaviour of support procedures: ix4-300d copy jobs - ix2-200 '

I raised a support request 140130-000100 (german support site) , trying to verify that we can trust rsync copy jobs results . Daily full 1:1 copy jobs (delete,add,overwrite) to separate (per day) shares are finished within a minute, while at earlier times it took about 1 hr over a gigabit / powerline connection.
Various material including memory dumps / logs / screenshots have been added to the call and the call has been worked on. But after answering a few questions to the already escalated case, case has been closed (by itself ?) without receiving a solution.
Can someone pls. look into this issue (and possibly explain why case has been closed)?
Customer needs an answer!

Ix4-300d Copy Job credential Errors

I am trying to run several copy jobs to run from servers in a domain to my iomega unit. The unit and the server are all in the domain and work with active directory. Most of the time, these jobs work fine, but every so often the copy jobs fail, looking for all the world like they've somehow lost thier credentials. The job history says that there are no files to copy, and when I go to select the file source, it says I do not have permissions, even though I selected the file copy location with those credentials, and it had been working fine up until this point.

When you have run into this issue, have you tried to delete the copy job(s) and then recreate them?
Also just to double check, are you using a fully qualified domain username? i.e., DOMAIN\username for the user account

Copy job repeatedly fails, manual initialization completes

I have a few copy jobs scheduled to run on my network; I back up several of the company's departments from the network share onto the Iomega StorCenter px6-300d. The directories specified are correct, exist, and do not have any restictions that would hinder the copy job from completing. The neccessary credentials are also verrified. It has worked accurately in the past, but over the last couple weeks it has been causing problems. The jobs do not complete, and now error out. When I look at the logs, I get a message saying that the folder did not mount, because the directory does not exist. However, when I manually click "run the copy job now", it completed just fine. Has anyone experienced anything like this before? Is there any reason you can think of that the automated job isn't completed, but the manual one is? I'm baffled, I've checked to make sure the machines dont have a nightly reboot or anything, ensuring that they are online at the time of the request. Any input would be helpful

I am seeing a similar problem on ix4-300d:
- daily full copy to a separate folder on a network attached ix2
- intermittendly failing copyjobs ( apparently right at the end ), can sucessfully be restarted manually ( finishes then in 2 minutes)
- after a few weeks strange behaviour: copy jobs finish within a minute ( typically needs 2 hrs ) but no error indication. Normal operation after rebooting target and source
This problem has been reported since quite some time. Network itself has no problems, error indicatons of copy job do not lead to problem. Firmware has been updated since, both units already replaced (under warranty).

Secuencial copy jobs on ix2?

Hi,
Is there some way to program the copy jobs on an ix2 so they execute in sequence?
Currently I have several copy jobs scheduled to execute daily at predefined hours but as the ammout of information to copy can vary so does the time required for the backup so I would like to know if there is a way to execute the next copy job when the first one finishes.

Hi Carlos,
There is not an option to run Copy Jobs in sequence, only on a timed schedule. You can run multiple copy jobs at the same time though so you can try to schedule them apart and if two or so copy jobs over lap, it should not slow the device down too much.

What is a "Copy Job" app?

I had a dialog box pop up asking if I wanted to run a Copy Job app script. I had a choice of Run or Quit but the Quit button wouldn't work so I force quit the app from Activity monitor. I couldn't find any app called Copy Job on my Mac. Can anyone tell me what the Copy Job app is, where it came from and why it wanted to run on my Mac?

For anyone who might have a similar problem I would like to follow up with what worked to resolve my issue. In addition to the odd dialog box I noticed that my screen saver had quit working as scheduled although it was working manually. After following the directions from Dave Nanian at Shirt Pocket all is now as it should be. SuperDuper is working with no strange dialog boxes popping up and my screensaver is also working properly.
Dave said that Copy Job is process that runs automatically and that no dialogue box should have ever appeared. He suggested that I delete my SuperDuper schedule, use Onyx or Cocktail to rebuild my Launch Services database and then use Disk Utility to repair permissions.
These directions worked perfectly except I initially tried Onyx 2.0b1 which generated the following error when I tried to rebuild the Launch Services database:
Applescript Error
Finder got an error connection is invalid (-609)
Cocktail 4.2.1 successfully rebuilt the Launch Services database with the the restore default box checked.
