Ix4-300d FTP Users Root directory

Hi,
I configured FTP and it is working properly over my LAN using my Desktop machines.
While configuring my IP Cameras (with Basic FTP client functions) to upload via FTP their snapshots / movies, they can only access to FTP server root directory - which is not writable as it is not mapped to a shared directory.
My question - Can I change the root directory of my FTP Server (based on Logged-in User, i.e. cctv user) in order to be placed directly into one of my shares which I have dedicated for my IP-Cameras output?
I tried to search a lot for such option but couldn't find a way to configure it. I want the cameras to directly access my NAS as an FTP server without having an external machine running an FTP server / which is mapped to my NAS (which is working fine).
 Thank you and best regards,
  Hassan

There is not a way to change the ftp port as it is fixed to port 21. What ftp client are you using? The issue might be because of the client or browser you are using. I would recommend using FileZilla (https://filezilla-project.org/) because this program supports our ftp protocol. If FileZilla still only shows the root directory, you might want to check the settings on your camera or it may not be compatible.

  • Problems With FTP Users home directory

    Hello Everyone,
I recently ran into a problem when setting the home directory of an ftp user. What I want to be able to do is for example I have two users, one user is User1, and the other is FTPUser. Now when people ftp into the user FTPUser I want to set the home directory to be a certain path in User1. Now I was able to successfully do this on one box when creating the FTPUser I just set the home directory to be the path in User1. And when people ftped into FTPUser they were in the right directory under User1.
I tried to do this same procedure on another box, and after creating the FTPUser and setting its home directory to a path under User1. Now when they ftped into FTPUser it was showing that the home directory was "/". I examined /etc/passwd and it presents the right home directory that I want, yet when people ftp into FTPUser its showing the home directory to be "/". Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.
    -Kevin

Sorry for such a late reply, but I figured out my problem and will put it on here in case other people run into the same problem. You must make the FTPUser be in the same group of the normal users directory path you wish to FTP into. For example the command will look like this when making the FTP user:
    useradd -g "users group number" -d /path/to/file -s /bin/sh ftpusername
so if user1 group id was 110 you would put 110 after -g and set the home dir of the ftpusername to be some path in user1. Thanks all for the help.

  • Ix4-300d FTP TLS

    Hello,
does somebody know how to enalbe TLS for FTP on an ix4-300d?
    thanks
    Christian

    Hello diehummel
Other than using SFTP on port 22 and having your company allow the ix4-300d's mac addresses through the local firewall, the only other way to secure your shares via FTP exposed externally or locally is to set access permissions from the ix4-300d's web interface.
At this time FTPS is not supported on LenovoEMC LifeLine OS.  I can't say for certain that this would not be an option in future updates down the road though.  My recommendation is to use the support incident you created to submit a feature request that can be sent up to engineering for review.

  • Installing an air application directly to user root directory or C:\

I am compiling an AIR file for Flash CS 5 and the filed for install  directory gives me a place where I can put a value for install location  but this install location is
inside the program files. I want my app to install directly to the C: drive on users computer how can I do that.
For example: if I put a value in the field as "my app"  the install location of this app will be C:\program files\my app\
but I want to install to C:\my app\
If I put the value as C:\program files\my app\  then it does not compile
If I put the value as <root dir>\my app     then it doe snot compile
Any work around would be appreciated.

I just tried and was able to install my app to the root of the C: drive with no problem. Do you have the proper permissions on your machine to allow you to install to that location? I recorded a quick screencast to show you the steps I took:
    http://andymatthews.net/uploads/2010-12-14_2247.swf
Let me know if those are the same steps you're taking.

  • Posting to FTP Site - Root Directory

My first time publishing to a hosted site but I can not seem to overwrite the old site data. My iWeb created site does not post to the root www.xxxx.ca but to www.xxx.ca/2010/Home.html.
2010 is the name of my site in iWeb and Home is the first page.
I would like this page (home) to go right to www.xxx.ca? Is there something I am missing?
    Can anyone shed some light?
    Thanks in advance!

The OP can upgrade the hosting account to accommodate more than one IP address.
For example, I use the Host Excellence Ultimate Business plan which costs about $8 per month and allows for 15 dedicated IP Addresses.
The advantage of Host Excellence is that you don't have to upload to a folder with a predetermined name. Once the domain name is registered, a couple of clicks in the control panel will create a folder of that name as the root folder for that site.
All these root folders can be viewed side by side with any decent FTP application in any one account.

  • Restrict FTP User to a Directory

I am using Solaris 10 on SPARC.
    SunOS ddw 5.10 Generic_139555-08 sun4u sparc SUNW,SPARC-Enterprise
I have put some text files in a directory '/u01/network'
I want to create a ftp user which can just read the files in the network directory. The ftp user shouldn't be able to navigate or see any other directory outside of the network directory.
The user ftp_usr is the owner of /u01/network directory.
    Following are settings in /etc/passwd:
    ftp_user:x:3008:1::/u01/network:/usr/bin/ftp-only
    The settings in the /etc/ftpd/ftpaccess:
    allow-retrieve relative class=realusers /u01/network
    restricted-uid ftp_user
    Please advise.

The problem has resolved. It was a permission issue.

  • FTP User's root directory gets overwritten

When i touch the settings for "Other" in any ftp share, all root directories for ftp users get overwritten so they point to that specific share.
I have to dis- and reenable read and write permissions for the desired share to point the user back to the directory.
Also i had to add /usr/bin/false to /etc/shells to get ftp access to work at all according to this discussion:
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/4341259?start=0&tstart=0
Any idea what causes this misbehaviour and how to fix it?

Which OS X or OS X Server version?
Across the OS X Server versions I can recall using, the setting for the ftp server directory has been system-wide.
Services aren't usually logging in, thus don't have a shell established, so I'm not sure why the shell change was necessary; interactive users should be able to log in via ftp.
In general, sftp is usually preferable to ftp, and for many and varied reasons.

    Hello blue256
If you entered a Organisational Unit in the Domain Management page,  please try clearing the OU field and try re-adding the unit to the domain.
After that is done, please try checking if the domain user and groups are accessible from User and Groups page.

  • FinRep 9.3.1: All users getting error opening reports from root directory

We are having an irritating, although not missiion critical error
When a user (any user) attempts to open a report from the explorer view in Financial Reporting 9.3.1, we receive an "_Error 1000165"._ No explanation is provided. No folders are openable within the explorer view except "Personal Page."
It is possible to open reports by opening a report that got accidentally stored in the root directory and then opening another report from the menu system in the usual way. So it is not a user permissions/provisioning issue.
Is there a fix to this? I am afraid someone will clean out the root directory and then we won't be able to access our reports.
Update: I can use the pattern "VariancePercent([B(A)],[A(A)])" to cut this to 27 Columns by varying the direct reference to the column. But is there an easier way to do this?
    Edited by: user10868938 on Feb 24, 2009 3:43 PM

We have been able to complete the update of our users SSID's in our Planning SQL tables through the utility. We had to create the users in Essbase first though.
However, if I try to log into Planning (through Workspace) I still cannot see the Planning applicaitons I should have access too. In Shared Services if I pull up my network ID and View Report, I do not get any Planning groups to show up that I belong too. I can open the group in HSS and see my ID is in it but when I do the View Report on my ID nothing comes up.
Additionally, if I add a user from scratch to the existing Planning groups that we've migrated and do the View Report they will show up for that user and the security passes through to Planning/Essbase so that I could log on fine. So, the problem is not with adding new users but the existing one's that were migrated. HSS shows the users in the groups but if you view a Report for those users it doesn't look like you belong to any groups.
We are going to apply a patch to Shared Services to see if it helps. It's suppose to deal with Groups that have users from multple domains but one set of those users cannot log into the application they should have access too. We applied this in our stand-alone S9 Essbase environment a couple of months ago to deal with a break between our existing users and groups from HSS to Essbase. Maybe this will be the final piece.

  • Ix4-300d Cannot Log In Active Directory member

I have an ix4-300d that is an Active Directory member that will not let me log in with my username and password. I have tried restarting the device and still will not let me. I can see all of the shares when I type the "\\devicename\sharename" just fine. Any ideas on what I can do to log in?
    Thanks,
    Eric

  • Ix4-300d: User name / permissions

    Hello,
i've acquaired a ix4-300d which seems to work fine in general as the configuration is accessible through the web interface and i could also access the shares which already existed until activating security.
I am working with a Win7 User account that looks like "Firstname Lastname". When I try to access the shares using the Storage Manager, it asks to set a password for user "Firstname Lastname". After setting a password, there is no new user added to the user page, also i cannot add this user manually as a blank is not supported in a user name. Although I would consider this behaviour to be a bug as there might be several windows users using blanks within their user names, i tried to rename my account to just "Firstname" which didn't effect my ability to access my shares.
Any ideas what I can do?
    Best Regards,
    BlindFish

    Hi BlindFish,
The password you enter in Storage Manager should match the password for the currently logged-in user on the local computer. If the computer user name is not set up as a user account on the Lenovo network device, you will need to do so.
Storage Manager uses the currently logged in Windows user account to connect to authorized Shares on the selected network storage device. If the Windows user name matches a user account set up on the device, Storage Manager will request the password to provide access to secured shares where that user has access permission. If the Windows user name does not match a valid user account on the device, Storage Manager will display only Public Shares.
You can change your Windows user account so it does not contain any spaces like you did, but there would need to be a user created on the NAS that matches the Windows user account name.

  • Has the FTP Root Directory specification changed in CS6?

I recently upgraded from CS5.5 to CS6 and it appears that the method of specifying the root directory for the remote server has changed. For example I had a root file specification of /htdocs/milehighmgc/ that worked perfectly in CS5.5 both in the Site Manager and when I connected to the server from the Files Panel. After upgrading to CS6 it sttill would connect from the Site Manager but when I tried to connect from the Files Panel I got an error message that said "An FTP error occurred - cannot make connection to the host." I was able to get it to go by adding another / to the root folder definition so that it read //htdocs/milehighmgc/.
Has anyone out there seen this? Is there a proper syntax that I am not aware of after using this stuff for 3 years?

No, it hasn't changed, and I've never seen a double-slash at the beginning of the path, either. How odd.

  • ODBC for Rdb files dissolve at root directory now

Late Dec99, I noticed a change in behavior of Oracle Rdb driver installation files.
For a couple years, on a Windows 95 PC, when I run the rdbwin95.exe installation program via Start > Run > and specify the -d qualifier, the installation program would first create a Win95 folder inside the current folder location and then create additional folders inside that new folder. Now, it creates the Win95 folder at the root directory, e.g., c:\ level, instead of inside the temporary installation folder.
Likewise, when I run an older version, rdb32.exe for example, it also dissolves into multiple files, all at the root level, instead of the temporary folder where I had placed it. Rdb16.exe behaves the same way.
Processing these 2 files can get ugly because it can exceed the maximum number of objects permitted on the c: drive, making new folder creation impossible until the install files are deleted.
I wonder if there might be some incompatability between the zip program used to create the install files and my current PC software. Each of the PCs I've tried at my location behave the same way, but some PCs at other locations do not, while some do. I just haven't been able to figure out the common denominator.
The only reason I call this a problem is that I have some s/w installation instructions that walk users thru example screens and it looks like I may need to cover both possible behaviors in my examples.
Has anyone else seen this problem? Or, have any explanation for it?
    Thanks
    null

    Risa no.
What i mean is this. This is a screenshot of my ftp server at my host(ipage.com).
Now this is a screenshot of my program and you can see that in my program i have only the directories hello stats test but i don't have the files in the root: htaccess.config swp txt 1.txt 2.png....all this files i don't have it on my treeView.
What i want it to be is that on my program on the treeView i will also display the files like in my ftp server.
I see in my program only the directories and the files in the directories but i don't see the files on the root directory/node.
I need it to be like in my ftp server i need to see in my program the htaccess 1.txt 2.png and so on.
So what i wrote in my main question is that in the var files i see this files of the root directory i just don't know to add and display them in my treeView(my treeView is treeViewMS1).
I know i checked in my program in the method CreateDirectoryNode i see in the first iteration of the recursive that var files contain this root files i just dont know how to add and display them in my treeView.
On the next iterations when it does the recursive it's adding the directories hello stats test and the files in this directories but i need it to first add the root files.

  • Ix4-300d - unable to joint the domain

Unfortunately when I came into work today, our ix4-300d wasn't allowing us to get into the web interface(attempted after we noticed that our nightly backups wasn't completed successfully the last 2-3 nights). Lenovo's tech support had us do a factory reset on the device and then we were asked to update the firmware on the unit to 4.1.108.32627.
Now I'm unable to connect us back to AD to reset all of the permissions for everything. The unit doesn't seem able to sync with the NPT server which is also the DC, DNS, DHCP, and file server. I had the correct IP address in for the time server but I turned it back on auto detect since the unit was giving me a sync error. I had also changed one of the two NIC within the Network interface to the same IP, subnet, and Gateway it had prior to this issue. I left the other NIC set to auto to ensure I could still get in the web interface. When I ping the IP I received from the auto-generated IP, I get a successful ping, but when I ping the IP address that was manually set, it Times out.  At one point I had both NICs set to auto so it could just grab an available IP from the DNS and pinged the name FQDN of the device, it was still trying to ping the old IP address.
should state that the one that had originally set this all up has left the company and they stuck me on this assignement since I was/am "the most qualified" to get it fixed. Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.
Unfortunately tech support cut our conversation short because they are stating that I never registered my product(which is a bit unlikely knowing the one that set this up) and this apparently cut our waaranty down to a 1/3 of the time that was advertised. Little upset with that aspect of the situation to say the least, but I'm hoping this community could assist where the Lenovo techs couldn't..

    Hello Phenix51
Sorry that you are having issues configuring the unit.  Regarding the warranty status, if the device is showing up as having an expired warranty we can still provide assistance via email and forums.  If the status is incorrect, the lenovo registration team should be contacted from emails here.
Regarding the issue you are experiencing,  please double check that the steps for connecting the unit to Active Directory are being followed, search for "Configuring Your ix4-300d Network Storage to Use Active Directory" in the updated user manual for the ix4-300d.
If you are still unable to connect the unit to the domain, please double check your network configuration's from before the firmware update are still valid.   An email should have been sent out to you after the call with support,  use that to send a email reply with logs, screen shots, etc that could help with narrowing down what the issue is.
If you could also PM me your incident number I could keep watch on it for updates from you.
