Ix4-300d How to register

Good morning!
We just bought a ix4-300d 12TB NAS.
On the box it says 3 year warranty with registration.
I just can't find where to register it..... I may just be blind on this one, but manual and interface has nothing about registration....
Anyone can shed some light on this?
Thank you.

Hello CollegeMathieu
All current Lenovo/LenovoEMC NAS devices are automatically registered at purchase.  Unless the warranty check shows an incorrect warranty start time or incorrect status, you would not need to do anything for the warranty.
If you do have a concern about your device's warranty status please go here to find the email contact for your regions registration team.  They will be able to assist with correcting warranty issues.

  • IX4-300D how do I import a new drive into RAID 5 Array?

I already had a 3 x 2TB RAID 5 array, added new forth drive (same 2TB drive model) and let it auto format, which completed OK, but when I look at Status in Admin I see "Unallocated 1.8TB". This tells me the drive was formated but not imported into the Array.
Looking at Drive Management Page it shows all four drives installed but offers no actions, you cannot even select a drive to display or take action on.
Going into Settings only shows the settings I used to create the RAID 5 initially, no other options. I would expect a workflow of right click new drive and select to import into RAID 5.
Looking in the help section no detail on RAID only a basic comment on what RAID is.
Something badly missing here. Is there some info I have missed?
    Peter

     Hello 2Old2Slow
I highly recommend that you do make plans to backup your data from the unit before attempting to expand the RAID just in case something goes wrong in the process.
When trying to expand an existing RAID 5 from 3 to 4 disks, you can use the "add disks to storage system" option that is located in Drive Management>Settings.  This option will become available after a new drive is added to the empty drive and the unit is powered back on.  It may need to overwrite the new disk, it will indicate which disk is being overwritten by marking the new drive with green stripes.  If you are being asked to overwrite data but none of the disks show green stripes, please stop and backup first as proceeding will most likely result in all disks being overwritten.

  • How do I disable administrator username and password entry to access ix4-300d

With the recent version 4.1.102.29716 update, I am now FORCED to enter a username and password to get into my "home based" ix4-300d NAS.  This has already been a MAJOR pain for my nedia server setup, in that I am no longer able to create a network drive to one of several NAS folders on to my home network.
My question therefore is, how do I DISABLE the function of having to enter an administrator username and password to gain entry into my ix4-300d?
    Thanks,
    Bill

    No hazzle, just do it.
This is only for admin purposes. You are still able to place your media into individual user shares or put it in the public area where they will be accessible for everyone, even if you set 'security' on.

  • What is the proceedure for replacing a hard drive (after failure) for RAID 5 with IX4-300D?

I have the IX4-300D with 4 hard drives (identical Seagate drives) using RAID 5.
Someday a hard drive will fail and I and I have to replace it. I read through the users manual briefly and I didn't see any documentation on how to perform a hard drive replacement and not lose any data.
    So here are my questions:
    1) I know per the instructions that Lenovo prefers using identical hard drives. Let's say in 2 years, 1 hard drive fails. Most likely, the same model Seagate hard drive will not be available. So will using a replacement hard drive by the same manufacturer with similar specifications work?
    2) Will the front panel (or the software) tell me which hard drive has failed?
    3) What is the proceedure for replacing a hard drive after a failure occurs? I read that the IX4-300D is not hot-swappable. So do I just power the IX4-300D down, replace the hard drive, and turn it back on?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

    Hi exceptionalht,
It is best to replace the hard drive with one that is the same manufacturer, rotational speed, and capacity, so it does not have to be exactly the same model.
The front panel should show which drive has failed. If not you can check the web interface to find out.
That is the basic procedure for replacing a hard drive. You can see a more detailed instructions here: Installing hard drives in an ix4-300d

  • UPS not recognized by Lenovo IX4-300D

    Hi there,
My new IX4-300D is not seening Xfinity Pro Series 2000VA 1200W Uninterruptible Power Supply connected by USB.
QNAP TS-269L on the same subnet has no problem seeing the same Xfinity UPS.
QNAP TS-269L is presently setup as a master. In GUI added IP addresses for QNAP TS-459 Pro II and Lenovo IX4-300D as slaves.
QNAP TS-459 Pro II sees the UPS on QNAP TS-269L, but Lenovo IX4-300D is still unaware of the UPS.
I am using GUI on QNAP and IX4-300D because I am not familiar with Linux and command line.
I can connect to QNAPs using WinSCP.
I have two exactly the same UPSs and would prefer to connect IX4-300D to UPS via USB directly.
If direct connectivity is not possible, I would like IX4-300D to at least recognize that it is a slave.
What can be done about it? Please provide instructions. Your assistance will be greatly appreciated!
    Thank you!
    Tom

    Hello TuToTom
I have been unable to find a specific listing of what USB driver the unit uses, however the user manual lists the usb port as the serial connection.  With most UPS devices that list the usb port as a serial power it usually means that the unit uses a usb to serial (rs232) adapter internally.
The Lifeline NAS devices support USBHID-UPS enabled UPS devices.  Most APC models, dell, and eaton units can or do use this driver.  This would be different than the usb connected serial link method.
I recommend contacting the ups manufacturer to confirm how the usb port on your ups unit functions and proceed from there.

  • Rsync Copy Job Failure ix4-300d

I'm trying to run Copy Jobs between two new ix4-300d devices Firmware 4.0.6 I prefer to use SSL and rsync. So far I can't get it to work.
I  can access the remote ix4, browse directories and upload files. When I set up a Copy Job from my local system (a) I'm not offered rsync as a protocol option in the "From" box, but I can select the directory to copy from using Windows File Sharing. In the "To" box, I select rsync and input username and password and can browse the remote ix4 shares to select the directory I want to copy to. However, when I run the Copy Job, I get the message "Access denied to the secure rsync service at <IP Address>"
I have tried disabling rsync and using only Windows File Sharing, but that configuration will not let me into the remote ix4. I have also tried disabling SSL being required on external connections and that does not work either. My sense is that rsync is actually working, but I have something set wrong.
    Suggestions?
    Solved!
    Go to Solution.

Got it solved. I need to add the remote ix4 as a trusted device to my local ix4. Eventually figured out how to do that. Copy Jobs run fine now with rsync.
    We could use better documentation.

  • Upgrading HDs on ix4-300D

Hi there, I have a ix4-300D with 4 x 2Tb HD on R5, I would like to know if there is a procedure to upgrade the hard drives to new ones of more capacity without loosing the actual configured raid, I mean, not needing to pivot the data, and if this procedure exists, how safe it would be. One way or another, I want to upgrade to 4 x WD60EFRX or WD50EFRX, are those drives supported ? do I need any firmware upgrade? thanks

    Hello lean296
The WD50EFRX 5TB disks can be used on the ix4-300d, see the updated approved drive list here.  You would need to be at least running a 4.x.x firmware,  it is highly recommended to be using a 4.1.x firmware though.
As for the upgrade process,  you technically can replace one disk at a time an allow the unit to boot and reconstruct after every disk replacement, however this will only use your previous disk's capacity.  To be able to utilize the full capacity of the new disks you should follow this guide and backup/copy your data before begining.

  • Ix4-300d cannot create shares

HI All We recently purchased an ix4-300d to backup file on. I set a static IP and connected to the web interface. When I try to create a share, I get this error: The selected function is not available due to the state of the pools I tried updating the firmware just in case this is caused by a bug, but I can't either. It just sits there. Does anyone know how I can get past this error? Thanks.

    Hi petrocelli,
What is the RAID configuration set to? Have you tried performing a factory reset from the web interface? If the device is new and is not functioning properly, I would recommend contacting technical support or returning the device to the reseller.

  • Ix4-300d disk firmware

    Hi,
I recently bought ix4-300d with 4 2TB ST2000DM001-1ER164 (firmware CC25). Already having updated the devices firmware I saw on this thread 1524192 "We do not recommend or see it necessary to update the firmware unless you have firmware CC37 or lower". Now considering I have CC25 and the latest version by seagate is CC4H I was wondering how to upgrade the drives. I am fairly technical but I do not want to void the warranty so was looking at an official solution.
    Thanks

    Hello gsharad007
LenovoEMC does not have a firmware (seagate firmware) update utility that will run through the ix4-300d.  If you wish to update the internal hard disks' seagate firmware, please go to the seagate support page to download any updates and apply them to the disks outside of the ix4-300d chassis.  This would not void the warranty on the ix4-300d.

  • Lenovo ix4-300d - Data protection is being reconstructed gets stuck.

    Hi experts,
After a power loss my Lenovo IX4-300d went on a "Data protection is being reconstructed" phase. This process never ends because it gets stuck at a certain % that changes every time I power on the IX4, at this point it becomes unresponsive and I have to unplug the power cord. I´m using RAID 5, so theoretically there is more than one drive failing. I am not an expert of course, just googled this, I don´t even know if its right.
In the other hand there is nothing stating a HD failure in the logs or the system status of the IX4.
So, how can I identify which drivers are failing in order to replace them?
Could this be a logical failure and be fixed by formatting the drives?
Any additional comments or recommendation? I am able to access my data while it´s "reconstructing" so I am moving my things out of the nas.
    Thanks
    EG

You can try rebooting with one drive removed at a time. If you are having one drive fail you should be able to boot with it missing. You should also check to see if you are still in warranty and call tech support. They will be able to assist in diagnosing the issue and replacing drives if needed.

  • File system error on IX4-300d

Hi all. I got message "File system error. You must perform file system check". How can I do it?
    Sorry for my English.

  • Ix4-300d - unable to joint the domain

Unfortunately when I came into work today, our ix4-300d wasn't allowing us to get into the web interface(attempted after we noticed that our nightly backups wasn't completed successfully the last 2-3 nights). Lenovo's tech support had us do a factory reset on the device and then we were asked to update the firmware on the unit to 4.1.108.32627.
Now I'm unable to connect us back to AD to reset all of the permissions for everything. The unit doesn't seem able to sync with the NPT server which is also the DC, DNS, DHCP, and file server. I had the correct IP address in for the time server but I turned it back on auto detect since the unit was giving me a sync error. I had also changed one of the two NIC within the Network interface to the same IP, subnet, and Gateway it had prior to this issue. I left the other NIC set to auto to ensure I could still get in the web interface. When I ping the IP I received from the auto-generated IP, I get a successful ping, but when I ping the IP address that was manually set, it Times out.  At one point I had both NICs set to auto so it could just grab an available IP from the DNS and pinged the name FQDN of the device, it was still trying to ping the old IP address.
should state that the one that had originally set this all up has left the company and they stuck me on this assignement since I was/am "the most qualified" to get it fixed. Any assistance you can provide would be appreciated.
Unfortunately tech support cut our conversation short because they are stating that I never registered my product(which is a bit unlikely knowing the one that set this up) and this apparently cut our waaranty down to a 1/3 of the time that was advertised. Little upset with that aspect of the situation to say the least, but I'm hoping this community could assist where the Lenovo techs couldn't..

    Hello Phenix51
Sorry that you are having issues configuring the unit.  Regarding the warranty status, if the device is showing up as having an expired warranty we can still provide assistance via email and forums.  If the status is incorrect, the lenovo registration team should be contacted from emails here.
Regarding the issue you are experiencing,  please double check that the steps for connecting the unit to Active Directory are being followed, search for "Configuring Your ix4-300d Network Storage to Use Active Directory" in the updated user manual for the ix4-300d.
If you are still unable to connect the unit to the domain, please double check your network configuration's from before the firmware update are still valid.   An email should have been sent out to you after the call with support,  use that to send a email reply with logs, screen shots, etc that could help with narrowing down what the issue is.
If you could also PM me your incident number I could keep watch on it for updates from you.

  • Ix4-300d FTP TLS

    Hello,
does somebody know how to enalbe TLS for FTP on an ix4-300d?
    thanks
    Christian

    Hello diehummel
Other than using SFTP on port 22 and having your company allow the ix4-300d's mac addresses through the local firewall, the only other way to secure your shares via FTP exposed externally or locally is to set access permissions from the ix4-300d's web interface.
At this time FTPS is not supported on LenovoEMC LifeLine OS.  I can't say for certain that this would not be an option in future updates down the road though.  My recommendation is to use the support incident you created to submit a feature request that can be sent up to engineering for review.
