My photoshop CS4 keeps crashing while I am in the middle of editing a photo. I am running Mac OS X 10.9.4. I have tried to contact support and I was directed here.

You were redirected to this user forum because CS4 is no longer supported by Adobe at all.
We'll need a lot more info before we can help.
You'll have to manually determine whether Photoshop CS4 is updated to version 11.0.2 (the Adobe auto updater is most unreliable in CS4), and give us plenty of other information.
    BOILERPLATE TEXT:
If you give complete and detailed information about your setup and the issue at hand, such as your platform (Mac or Win), exact versions of your OS, of Photoshop and of Bridge, machine specs, such as total installed RAM, scratch file HDs, video card specs, what troubleshooting steps you have taken so far, what error message(s) you receive, if having issues opening raw files also the exact camera make and model that generated them, etc., someone may be able to help you.

  • D7000 raw files not seen in my iMac OS 10.7.5; Bridge and Photoshop CS4 Extended

Please help!!! I just bought a Nikon D7000 and my iMac OS 10.7.5 does not recognize it, I cannot see the D7000 on the Desktop, Bridge, Photoshop CS4 Extended, etc Please assist.

ACR 6.x only works with Photoshop CS5, not CS4.  The latest Camera Raw you can install into Photoshop CS4 is 5.7.
You have two choices, one free, one not:
    1.  Use the latest version of the free downloadable Adobe DNG converter to convert all your raw D7000 images to .DNG files each time you shoot, then open the .DNG files into Photoshop CS4, which it knows how to read with Camera Raw 5.x.
    2.  Upgrade to Photoshop CS6, which will give you maximum convenience and integration to be able to just open the D7000 raw .NEF files directly through Camera Raw.

It also adds a TON of unreadable code below the above.  I've tried resetting the preferences.  The Applecare people referred me to Adobe, who in turn wants to charge me $40 to access their support for CS4, which infuriates me.  I'll ask here, first.

As regards »useless drivel«: There are people who can actually read those crash reports – not me, though – but they might need the full text.
    Is Photoshop fully updated?
    Boilerplate-text:
As with all unexplainable Photoshop-problems you might try trashing the prefs (after making sure all customized presets like Actions, Patterns, Brushes etc. have been saved and making a note of the Preferences you’ve changed) by pressing command-alt-shift on starting the program or starting from a new user-account.
System Maintenance (repairing permissions, purging PRAM, running cron-scripts, cleaning caches, etc.) might also be beneficial, Onyx has been recommended for such tasks.

Weeding out bad fonts never seems to be a bad idea, either. (Validate your fonts in Font Book and remove the bad ones.)

  • We need some information about Photoshop CS4 and Other Adobe Products Purchase

We purchased Photoshop CS4 Extended for our educational use as Volume License...
When we purchased the following products:
    1. Adobe Photoshop CS4 Extended
    2. Adobe Dreamweaver CS4
    3. Adobe Page Maker 7.0
    4. Adobe Flash CS4 Professional
we only got the "SERIAL NO. (VL) with Licence Certificate". We didn't get any Application CD/DVD media or Manuals.?
Then we downloaded and installed the product with the serial supplied. product is working fine.. but if Adobe is charging such amount for their product, then the Applicatio Media & Manuals should be issued for the client.
    Why?
kindly send your valuble feedback about this to us on : [email protected]

For the past several years, manuals come as PDF files, even if you buy the retail license. Do you hate the environment and want to kill trees?
Downloaded files should be backed up on a blank DVD.
Your purchasing agent should have been aware that a license and media are two separate purchases for volume customers.

Adobe is not 'charging such amount'. You have the cheapest license available and have the same product as a retail user. Appreciate it.

  • Photoshop CS4 new Smoother Image Viewing problem

Photoshop CS4 now appears to make images look smoother than ever, however, when I'm working on images which have hard aliased edges, the images look blury and actually make me feel like my eyes are out of focus. It's very disconcerting. I've not found a way to preview the CS3 way so I've had to revert back to using CS3 at work. This problem represents a show stopper for me.

I'm on the phone with HP tech support about this problem. He said he's gonna charge me to fix the problem and than he put me on hold. I'm waiting to find out how much money I've saved. You put some dollars in my pocket. Thanks!!!!!!

  • ACR 6.2 also for Photoshop CS4?

HI! I have attempted to install ACR 6.2 for reading Sony NEX-5 fotos. But it seems, it's not possible to install it on Photoshop CS4. How can I solve it without updating CS4 to CS5?

I appreciate your detailed thoughts, Jeff, and I agree with you in principle that it is good to have people working and looking forward.
But should getting a new cutting-edge camera really demand getting a new version of Photoshop?
As a plug-in developer, yes, I very well understand how to make plug-ins compatible with multiple versions of Photoshop - and frankly it isn't that hard!  My plug-ins are compatible with a huge number of apps, Photoshop from way back through the present, and even a bunch of other editors.
I've been able to develop software on any number of branches and on a main trunk simultaneously for something like 25 years now.  Unless the software development processes being followed by the Camera Raw engineers are really broken, this is not a technical problem at all.
No, this all comes down to policy and economics.  An argument that adding camera support to an old version will take away engineers and testers from new development is thinking like a line manager...  Adobe need only fund more developers.  Perhaps I think more like top management because I own my own company, but this isn't rocket science.
The decent thing to do would be to support one prior major version, and optimize the software so that the changes to support new cameras will slip easily into both versions.  It may not be perfectly automated, but c'mon, in the new millenium it can be done easily.
Think, for a moment, about someone who has waited until much of the way through a Photoshop release cycle to buy a new camera and a new copy of Photoshop.  Okay, so they'll get upgrade pricing on the next version, but should they really have to pay, then pay again?  Perhaps they'll have more money to spend on software in the off year when they didn't buy a camera.
Adobe is a big company.  Adobe charges big bucks for this software - amongst the biggest.  It's clear they're commercially successful now, but wouldn't they like to be even MORE successful?  That happens beyond the current fiscal year by delivering great VALUE in the products.  If you take care of people using CS4 for a while (and who by definition have avoided CS5), chances are much better that they'll buy CS6, no?
Personally I think Adobe squeezes the cash cow a little too tightly, and she'd give even more milk if she were fed better.

  • Photoshop CS4 Ex to CS5 Std

I bought Photoshop CS4 from Amazon a few months ago but they were out of stock so they upgraded me to CS4 Extended for no extra charge.
Will I be able to upgrade to CS5 Standard from CS4 Extended as I have no use for the Extended version.
    Thanks

    Apparently yes.

    Bon dimanche.

  • Complaint: Animated GIF, Photoshop CS4

I am a freelance print designer. Needless to say that I have upgraded to the Design Standard Edition of the Creative Suite 4. Still, some customers ask me to do their web banners, too.
    Fact 1:
There is an animation palette in Photoshop CS4 Standard.
    Fact 2:
You can create animations with that palette.
    Fact 3:
You can save the animation as an animated GIF.
    Fact 4:
Opening the animated GIF, you only get the first frame, so you cannot edit the animation or content inside the GIF.
    Fact 5:
I need to alter a few animated GIFs which I created several years ago using Photoshop CS2. Due to a harddrive crash, I don't have access to the original layered PSD files any more.
    Fact 5:
Photoshop CS4, the most advanced image editing tool on the face of the earth, is absolutely useless at this point, and I have to find freeware or shareware to do the job. Finding and purchasing this sort of software is MY time, and that is MY money.
Whatever drove Adobe to cripple Photoshop CS4 Standard, whatever drove them to expel the simple "Open Animated GIF" feature from Photoshop CS4, it was the wrong decision.
This, Adobe, is a customer complaint. Take it serious. There is competition, and I hear a lot about GIMP these days.
    Frustrated,
    Gero

I know this thread is getting on a bit now, but I do have the answers.
Quite simply, as far as I can tell, this cannot be done without Quicktime installed.
To open an animated gif in CS4 on a PC:
    1. Go to File->Import->Video Frames to Layers
    2. In the File Name box type “*” ( or you can type the name manually) The window will now show every type of file
    3. Select your gif and you are done
To open animated gif in CS4 on a MAC:
    1.  Go to open, select your GIF, then in the bottom left corner of the open file dialogue box select Quicktime Movie as the format, then open your GIF.
    2.  You’ll need to open your animations window by going to window -> animation. This will bring up the time line.
    3.  If you want to have all of the frames broken up into layers, click the options in the animation window, and select “Flatten Frames into Layers”.
This will give you access to all the frames as layers and you can now edit the GIF as though it was a movie.
I hope this helps to ease somebody's frustration.

  • I need to install photoshop cs4 extended from a disk to a new computer because my old computer had a hard drive crash. There is no serial number on the back of the case.  How can I obtain a usable serial number?

I have to install Photoshop CS4 extended on a new computer from a disk because my old computer had a hard drive crash.  There is no serial number on the back of the case.  How can I obtain a usable serial number?

    Find your serial number quickly
You can activate software without following up and registering it... at least that was the case in the past.  The serial number is normally located on the disc case or a box inside the main box.  If you did not purchase the disc from Adobe then it is possible you would have dealt with a redemption code, in which case it would have been up to you to keep a record of the serial number, especially if you did not follow up and register the software.

  • Photoshop CS4 - File Type Associations and Bridge CS4

I have both Photoshop CS4 and Photoshop Elements 7.0 installed on my PC running Windows Vista Home Premium, I removed Photoshop CS3 after installing CS4. The issue I have is that if I look at file associations in Bridge CS4 under Preferences, none of the file types are set to Photoshop CS4, they are set to either Explorer or Photoshop Elements 7.0. The even stranger thing is also that if I try to change the associations, Photoshop CS4 is not even displayed as an option, as Photoshop Elements 7.0 always is, I have to browse in order to find it. This works, but I find it strange. Also within Windows none of the file associations are set to Photoshop CS4 after installation, I have to change them manually, again by browsing for it. I remember that in previous installs of Photoshop there was the possibility to change or use default file associtions, does CS4 have this? I guess this is not really a problem, but I find it somewhat strange that Elements 7.0 is always offered as an option but not CS4 and makes me feel it hasn't installed properly. Anyone have any ideas?

CCleaner did the trick for me too!
But I still suspect something about CS4 installer is not right.
Under CS3 I used Vista "open with">"choose program">"always use" to assiciate bridge CS3 with my canon camera raw files.. At that time it did work.
After installing CS4, I wanted to do the same with bridge CS4 but it didnt work. In the "choose program" vista menu, whatever I was doing, I couldnt select bridge CS4 it was always comming back to photoshop cs4 or bridge cs3.
After using CCleaner, I could re-associate the way I want right away.
So my word to photoshop's installer developper: please try to reproduce this issue, it should be easy, and make the installer avoid this.
    Thanks

  • Problem with Photoshop CS4 after migration to new Mac

I just migrated from an old Mac to a new Macbook Pro running Mavericks. I'm having a problem with Photoshop CS4. Specifically, two things:
    1) When I open an image in Camera Raw, I get this error:
    Fatal error - missing component
    /Library/Application Support/Adobe/Adobe Version Cue CS4/Client/4.0.0/VersionCue.framework
    2) When I try to save anything, it tells me it can't because of a program error.
I've looked around for a solution. Apparently I had to install Java, but that hasn't solved the issue. A couple of people mentioned that reinstalling would work for a similar problem. My problem with that is that my disk is on the other side of the world and my new macbook doesn't have a disk drive anyway. So I logged into my Adobe account hoping to see a download link for software I have licences for, but there isn't one.
So my question is firstly, whether there is a simpler solution to the errors I am getting and, if not, if there's a solution to reinstalling Photoshop CS4 without the disk.
    Thanks!

Did you use Apple's migration tool?  It misses a lot of support files, especially in the Application Support directories.
You'll have to copy those files manually, or reinstall the app.
