J2EE licensing

I have read the J2EE licensing section a few times and of course I still dont have a clue as to what they mean. On one hand, it sounds like I am not allowed to even have J2EE on my unlicensed computer, then on the other hand, they never directly say it. I develop open source freeware and I wonder if this J2EE license means that I am wasteing my time developing J2EE applications because everybody who uses my program will need to pay a fortune to use it.
Please help me somebody who knows what is going on...
Thanks

I have the same question. I wish someone who has deployed would speak up?
Thank you.

  • How to apply j2ee licensing

    Hi everyone:
I met a problem about apply J2EE licensing.
I install NetWeaver 2004s in AIX machine. The j2ee licensing invalid after 28 days and the j2ee will shutdown every 30 minutes. Then I need restart j2ee engine every 30 minutes. So I go to SAP licensing key website to apply a licensing.
The SAP mail me a licensing file that just only for <b>NetWeaver_ORA</b>.Then I use Visual Administrator to run this licensing. It's work for NetWeaver but not for j2ee. so my j2ee's problem still in.
Has anybody can tell me how to apply the j2ee licensing because I can't find any  selection about j2ee in SAP licensing website. I just can find NetWeaver 2004s.

    Hi Lee,
We have a similar landscape NW2004s EP on AIX, Oracle and I chose the following while ordering the J2EE_ORA license:
    System ID:xxx
    System Name :Development System
    System Type: Development System
SAP Product : SAP WEB AS
Production Version: SAP WEB Application Server 6.40
Technical Usage: Application Server Java,EP core,Enterprise portal
    Database :Oracle
    Operating system:AIX
    Request Type:Stand system,J2EE Engine,portal and/or License server
    We differ only in :
SAP Product : SAP WEB AS
Production Version: SAP WEB Application Server 6.40
Select the above and see if it works.
    Reward points if this helps!

  • Netweaver 04 J2EE license

    Hi,
I have just installed NW04 ABAP + J2EE addon using the following method.
    1) Install Was 6.40 Abap
    2) License the system
    3) Install J2EE 6.40 add-on for Abap
    4) Applied stack 9 for Abap
    5) Applied stack 9 for J2EE
The ABAP engine is licensed correctly, however when I start the J2EE web page and then select system information it shows as being an unlicensed system and that the current temporary license will expire in 24 days.
My understanding was that if you installed the J2EE add-on for ABAP that the license carried through to the J2EE instance.
I have had a look at the licensing Adapter, in the Visual Administrator and that also shows no license.  Should I be concerned or is this just a bug?
    Cheers
    Ed

    Fantastic!
Thanks for the answer, you've certainly cheered me up.
I was going mad looking for an answer to an non existent problem.  Good one SAP, keep up the good work
    Cheers

  • J2EE License Question

    Hello all,
We have installed a Developer Workplace SR2 on our local machines. Before our temporary license was about to expire (Aug 27), we requested for a permanent license. Awkwardly enough, the 'permanent' license's expiration is set to August 28.
Is it always the case that we need to keep on installing temporary/permanent licenses on our machines for Developer Workplace use?
Should Developer Workplace J2EE Engine license should have a longer 'permanent' license validity period?
How do we obtain a license where validity is up to year 9999? If there's a case.
    Thanks.
    Jan.

    Thanks for the response, Kaleem.
Here are the parameters we used for the request of the license key:
    System Type: Development System
    Product: SAP NetWeaver
Product Version: SAP NetWeaver 7.0 (2004s)
    Technical Usage: Application Server Java
    Database: MaxDB
    Operating System: NT/INTEL
    Planned Production Date: 15/08/2008
Any problem you see on this?
    Thanks in advance.

  • J2EE License problem

    Dear Colleagues,
My customer has changed his installaltion number for some contract reason.
Iam trying to install new license for standalone J2EE engine.
When I try to install the new license (with new installation number)
file by using visual administrator tool it gives message for the
conflict of installation number and license is not installed.
I have restarted the J2EE engine and check but it still shows the old
    license information.
The same task I did for one of the  ABAP system of the same customer and its works correctly and system shows the new License in system status
I have followed steps in SAP note: 870871 for SAP Web-AS JAVA part.
But If I retry with old installation number license file, it is
    installed successfully.
Any ideas about this behavior of VA tool ?
    Awaiting for your replies.
    Kind Regards,
    Neenad

    Hi Aamir,

This may lead to a shutdown of the running system.
You will not be able to start the J2EE-Engine again without a valid license.
Do you really want to proceed? "</b>
Iam not sure about this so did'nt clicked on YES.
Have you faced this type error/pop-up before ?

  • J2E License Key File With Changed System Number

    Hello,
During the last weeks, there had been some trouble according to the sneak preview licensing web site to get a new license key for special SAP systems like J2E, NSP etc.
In the meantime, I used especially for my J2E instance via visual admin the button "install subsequent temp license" with success.
Returning anew to the web site today, I saw that now we are able again to renew the license key for our trial systems and ordered successfully license keys for J2E and NSP instance.
Because both systems have got new system numbers, I deleted the expired license key for NSP via saplicense -delete. Then I installed regularly the given new license key with success.
After starting the J2E instance, I tried to delete the existing active license (see above) via installed licenses getting a message which let me stop my try to delete the license because I feared for to get trouble with the system afterwards.
The exact text of the warning trying to delete the existing active license sounds:
    DELETE J2EE-Engine_ADA License:
You are about to delete the license for the J2EE-Engine. This may lead to a shutdown of the running system. You will not be able to start the J2EE-Engine again without a valid license. Do you really want to proceed?
Trying to install the given license from file (via General), I got the informational message:
This system's system number is "xyz", but there is a license key for the system number "abc" in file path\J2E.txt. License key file path\J2E.txt doesn't contain any valid SAP license keys.
    License key(s) not completely installed.
    That was to be expected...
    So my questions are:
    1) What is to do when I want to implement the new given license key file which has another system number as the existing active one.
    2) How often can I use the possibility to prolong my active license via button "Install subsequent temp. license" in future without falling in trouble?
    Thank you for your answers.
    Regards
    Christian

Before deleting the J2EE engine license, check the "Installed Licenses" tab and verify that there is another J2EE-engine license with Validity "Valid" and within a satisfactory date range.  Only under this situation will I feel comfortable with removing the additional/expired licenses.
Your original message is a bit confusing ... let me see if I got it correctly.  You have been running your J2EE instance with temp licenses, because there was some issues w/ preview licensing on SAP's web site.  Now that you have finally received your preview license, you wish to install it.
But since then, your system number has changed.  Do you mean system ID?  Since your example used a 3 character ('xyz' vs 'abc').  I think the SID is what you mean.  Because changing system number will not require a new license, but changing the SID will.
So now you have the following.
    1. J2EE running on temp license with SID 'xyz'
    2. A new preview license for SID 'abc'
What you need to do is:
    1. Request from SAP preview license for the SID that matches your system 'xyz'.  OR, change the SID of your system from 'xyz' to 'abc', which is not recommended ...especially w/ AS-JAVA.
    2. Install the new preview licenses.
    3. Verify preview licenses are valid.
    4. I don't believe you have to remove the temp licenses, it's overwritten when you install the permanent preview licenses.

  • J2EE - License - Key

    Hello,
we installed a NWDI and installed the permanent key.
So we have the problem that we have 2 entries in the Visual Admin and the  first one is the
entry with the temporary license, every 30 minutes the mashiene stops them self.
How can i delete the entry for the temporary license?
    Thanks,
    Christian

    Thanks.
for you answer, but this is the problem that i can't remove the first entry,
because if i push the button remove than only the informations will removed
    and in the left window i have 2 entries (1. j2ee_oracle 2. nw04s_oracle).
I have to delete the entry j2ee_oracle.
    Thanks,

  • Installing J2ee license for a DR site HW key

As you are probably aware, you can install multiple licenses in an ABAP system so that you can have your primary, and High Availablility servers HW/KEY and license installed in the system.  You can also get a license for a Disaster Recovery site and put that in the ABAP system so that the license is there for DR testing and / or real DR situration.
Does anyone know how to do that with the NW 701 java stacks?  I know how to install a license from a file in the license adapter service, but it only seems to let you install licenses that match your current HW key.  For HA, you can failover and install the key, then you have both installed.  But that is a problem for DR, we hope to only got the DR site for tests.  We do not actually want to failover to the DR site and fail back for real.  So during the DR test it is possible to install the license for DR at the DR server, but I would like to add that license to the prod server so it is there already for the next test.
Is there a way to add a java license for a HW key that does not match your current HW key?
As an fyi, we are doing DR with AIX Oracle using block level SAN replication with write order fidelity.
    Thanks, Pat

    Hi,
You need to install the license after switchover to DR site. For Java engine, you have to clearly document the steps, which you need to perform after moving to DR site, so that you won't waste much time in bringing back the system to DC.

  • Delete Software Product from Licensing Adapter in Visual Admin

    Hello,
I have installed standalone JAVA system.
By mistake I applied the NW (ABAP + JAVA) license in Visual Admin. So under Software Products under Licensing Adapter Service, it now shows 3 software products viz. J2EE, Maintenance and NetWeaver.
I deleted all the licenses and reapplied only the J2EE license, but NetWeaver still appears under S/W products.
Is there any way to delete NetWeaver S/W product from licensing adapter?
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Chintan

    Hi Chintan,
Go to Licensing Adapter Service->Installed Licenses, click on NetWeaver, on the right hand side, the license information is displayed. There is a Delete License option there.
If the above options are not displayed, kindly mention the JAVA release of your system.
Additionally, the presence of any such entries will not pose any errors. So need not be too worried about removing it.

  • Solution manager license key generation

    Hi All,
I have one solution manager server with AS ABAP and AS JAVA.But the license is expired for the J2ee engine.
I want to generate the license key for that, but the issue is the solution manager installation is not registered in the service market place, so how i will generate the license key?
In the process of license generation, I need to select the system for which i want to generate a permanet license. But the system is not available at the service market place.
To generate the license key the installation and the SYSTEMSID should be available at the service market place which is ususally done by a solution manager but how to do all these for a solution manager.
    Manisha Das

To get a license key for your Solution Manager system just go to:
    https://websmp201.sap-ag.de/licensekey
Select the appropriate installation number and create a new system (your solman SID). After that you are able to request a valid license for your installation.
A separate J2EE license is not necessary for a Java AddIn/Double Stack Installation.
    /cheers

  • 2004s Portal License Keys

We've installed sp08 via the rapid installer and obtained the Portal_MSS license the other day.  We applied the license via visual administrator, and everything seemed okay.  However, now when we enable debugging, we get a license check error and the system shuts down.
Do I also need a J2EE license?  I thought it was just one license with 2004s...  I don't need to delete the old, temporary J2EE license, do I?
    Thanks,

  • How to make J2EE work after moving harddrive to different laptop -

    Hi Everyone,
After moving the harddrive from one laptop on which NWDW(developer workplace) is installed, to another laptop, my local J2EE engine is not working anymore with Red color.  I guess the hardware key is different for different laptops although they have the same harddrive?  Is there a way to change hardware key?  Is there a way to make my local J2EE work without reinstalling NWDW?
    Any Advise/ suggestions?
    Thanks, Jin

    Jin,
As your J2EE engine is not comming up for a second then you can't do anything.  May be you have to install temporary Licence or you have to get new one.
You should ask this question in section Application Server --> SAP Newtweare AS, General forum.
Why you do not want to reinstall J2EE Application Server?
If you reinstall J2EE web AS then you have to redeploy your project from NWDS. Just reconfigure your J2EE engine setting in NWDS after you reinstall and just redeploy.
Or may be you do not have to reinstall Basis person can install new j2ee license.
    Regards.

  • Is a seperate license required for Collaboration?

    Hi all,
I have searched sdn and the service site and I am finding conflicting information on whether Collaboration needs to be licensed.
What is required from a license perspective to use Collaboration?
    Regards,

    hi,
you dont need a spcecial license for Collaboration. It  is part of Portal license or J2EE license. You just need to apply license for the portal.
    thanks,
    Praveen.

  • WAS is not starting up

    Hi All,
When trying to start WAS 7.0 through MMC ,its not coming up.
The nodes are restarting again and again.Even the Jcontrol.exe is also in "starting the process".
Developer trace for Jcontrol is showing error
"JStartupICheckFrameworkPackage: can't find framework package J:\usr\sap\S01\JC00\exe\jvmx.jar".
Any ideas how to fix it?
    Regards
    Ajay

    Hi Ajay,
You said "server nodes restart before system comes up properly". If this is the case, how did you check "System info" page?
In that case, you should be able to connect to Visual Admin too, (obviously before server node goes down) again.
I hope, you are aware, how to install J2EE license with the help of Visual Admin?
In case, if some critical services are not comming up properly, system node strats but max. 4 times. you can check this with "jcmon pf=<Instance Profile>" command.
If this is the case, you can check the server start-up logs for the errors.
Inf your server node keeps restarting for ever, check you JVM configuration. May be some fine tuning of Memoty Parameters will help in fixing the problem.
It would be good, if you post, jcmon status. dev_jcontrol & std_server0.log. It will help us in understanding your problem better.
