J2EE RAM requirement

I would like to install the J2EE (Sun Java System Application Server Platform Edition 8.2?) on a home PC to learn some enterprise programming and try out simple example code.
My PC has Windows XP Pro SP2, and heaps of disk space, but only 512MB of RAM. The platform requirements page for J2EE at: http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-4707/6n6re4ime?a=view states 1G as the minimum memory requirement for supported Windows OS.
I only need to run trivial code examples. Is it possible to install and run the application server with only 512MB?
Would the lack of memory cause it to swap a lot but still function (slowly), or would it just not install or run at all? Has anyone else out there loaded this package onto an under-spec machine?
Thanks for any help you can offer.

Don't let those requirements scare you off - they are on the conservative side given that this edition of Application Server can actually be used in production.
You should go ahead and install the J2EE - installer does not enforce minimal requirements and I don't expect any issues if you use this system for the purpose you described.

  • Solution Manager systems RAM requirements - problems with the Java Engine

    Hello,
I am about to install SAP Solution Manager 7 on a WIndows 2003 Server x64 but I need to know what the RAM requirements are? I have been having problems with the Java Engine starting and it seems to time out, I have heard that this is a very RAM hungry process and it might be why?
Many thanks for your help in advance,
    Omar

    Hello Omar,
To size SAP Solution Manager 7.0 EHP1 we recommend to use the SAP Solution Manager Quicksizer Tool at:
    http://service.sap.com/sizing-solman
Here you find information on how to use the tool, how to collect input data for E2E Scenario Sizing, on SAP E2E RCA Sizing, Introscope Tuning, Wily Enterprise Manager Cluster Setup for E2E RCA Scenario and BI Aggregation Strategy in E2E Scenario.
Please find more information about installing Solution Manager in:

  • CS6 Design & Web Premium RAM requirement?

    Hi all,
CS6 Design & Web Premium RAM requirement for Windows 7 64bit is listed as 2GB but 8GB is recommended. We're getting a new PC with 4GB of RAM and 500GB hard disk space. I'm just looking for a staff member's advice, do you think the Adobe software would run too slow on this machine with 4GB of RAM?
    Many thanks for the help.

    Hi AdobeUser1985,
Its hard to say what too slow is for you - more RAM really makes a difference when working with large files. If you have the option to add more RAM in the future I'd recommend it. The speed of the RAM is pretty significant as well. I'd push for best you can get currently and try to get hardware that allows upgrading in the future.
    Hope that helps,
    - Dave

  • Hyperion Essbase 9.3.x RAM Requirements

    Dears,
What are total RAM requirements of Hyperfine Essbase 9.3.x?
According to the 93_support_matrices.pdf Hyperion essbases requests the following RAM:
    1.5 GB Hyperion License Server
    1.5 GB Shared Services
    1.0 GB Analytic Services
What RAM should we have installed on our Linux Red Hat server?
    Minimum? Optimal?
Your prompt reply will be very much appreciated.

Minimum requirements for Hyperion 9.3 is 4 Gigs of RAM regardless of the OS and will, ideally, support your development environment and a small amount of concurrent production users.
8 Gigs detected to Hyperion services and applications is recommended. This would be very likely to support your development environment and would probably support 50 named users - of course, highly dependant on your environment and other potential interference such as hardware and software configurations, document sizes, application server installation etc.
Like any other application, the more RAM the better but pay attention to the maximums for the services. Some services will only utilize 2 Gigs of RAM so they would have to be duplicated to take advantage of 4 Gigs. The duplication process is very simple and Hyperion manages the load balancing effectively and efficiently.

  • Active Directory RAM requirement 2008 R2

    Dear,
I have multiple 2008 R2 Active directory domains (6 DC with respective ADC)  in a forest, User range on each domain is between 500 to 5000. please guide me the RAM requirement with consideration of replication and dns load, I have quad core servers
and all domain controller have integrated DNS
Only Antivirus will be installed  on them.
    thanks
    Wajahat

    Greetings!
I always measure the amount of RAM needed with this formula:
(RAM for base OS) + (RAM for each individual software) + (1GB internal processes) + (1GB or backup when processes meet dead-end)
In your case a 6GB seems enough if your server is not a Global Catalog. If it is also a Global Catalog you should double the amount of RAM
    at minimum. Something like ( n >= 12 ).
    Regards.

  • Is There a minimum cpu speed an Ram requirement for Nano

I use xp pro and want to know if Nano has a cpu/ram requirement.
    thanks, Ken

I don't think that the nano itself, or any other iPod for that matter, has a requirement from the computer that has iTunes other than the type of cable used to connect the iPod to your computer (USB, Firewire), and perhaps what version of the OS you have.
The only requirements CPU/RAM requirements you should adhere to are the ones that are required of iTunes. The requirements for Windows are as follows:
Windows XP or 2000 (latest service packs recommended)
500 MHz Pentium class processor or better
    QuickTime 7.0.4 (included)
    256MB RAM
Supported CD-R or DVD-R drive to burn CDs
Broadband Internet connection (DSL/Cable/LAN) for buying and streaming music
    Additional Video Requirements
1.5 GHz Pentium class processor or better
    32MB video RAM
The Requirements for the iPod Nano are as follows:
PC with USB port or card (USB 2.0 recommended)
Windows 2000 with Service Pack 4 or later, or Windows XP Home or Professional with Service Pack 2 or later
Also - it might be more helpful, for yourself and for other users, if you were to post this inquiry in the Windows section of iTunes.

  • RAM requirement for iFS

If I do not want to use all protocol servers,
how much RAM would require to run Oracle database and iFS on same machine.
Documentation states 512MB RAM is required,
if you want to use all protocol servers.

    Satheesh,
Assuming you are running iFS + web server and db on the same machine, 256 MB RAM is sufficient. I had set this up on a 256 MB machine and it is okay...

  • Minimum Router's RAM requirement for Cisco CME

    Hi,
Does anyone ever try to use below 1 GB RAM when installing CME for router 29XX? I know that Cisco recommend to use 1 GB RAM. I just want to know, what problem we will may face, if we implement CME with 2921 router for 50 users with default RAM (512 MB).

    Hello,
As you mentioned; for 2911 routers the recommended is to use 1 GB of RAM as per the link below:
    http://www.cisco.com/c/en/us/td/docs/voice_ip_comm/cucme/requirements/guide/cme105spc.html
As you also going to deploy it with its maximum ip phones that can support, I'd highly recommend you to use 1 GB. If you use 512 RAM,  you may fall into performance issues and your setup will not be supported by Cisco TAC.
    Thank you,
    Shadi

  • RAM required for Lion

I have a macBook Air 11" built in 2010. It has 2 mb RAM. Is there any problems running Lion with this configuration. If yes, can you upgrade to more RAM.

Ram is soldered to logic board so it cannot be upgraded.
This page lists the system requirements for lion.  It says MBA 2008 or later so, yes, you can run lion on it.

  • PI 7.1 RAM requirements

    OS: AIX
    DB: Oracle
    Hi,
We have recently installed PI 7.1 EHP1 and with 7GB RAM for 5 concurrent users, the system seems to be paging a lot. The JAVA engine seems to be really slow. Can anyone share their RAM configuration for non-production PI 7.1 systems?
    Regards,
    Shehryar

    Hello.
    For PI 7.1, it's suggested process should be Core2Duo, RAM > 2GB, JRE > 1.5.
Since you have 7gb, I don't believe the memory RAM is your problem.
You could check the Tuning Guide to search for a solution that decreases
the comsuption of memory for your scenario.
    I hope it helped.

  • Is a matching pair of Ram required to run an iMac 1.83Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo?

I have an iMac 17" 1.83Ghz Intel Core 2 Duo with the standard 512mb ram (2x 256mb) installed. If I replace one of the memory slots with one 1gb ram stick, and leave one 256mb ram stick (1.256gb ram total), will my system run properly? Will it run at its optimal performance level? Or will Installing 2 sticks of 512mg ram perform better?
Also, is 1gb - 1.256gb ram enough to run parallels (windows xp) smoothly?
    Thanks in advance.

  • RAM requirement for solaris 10

I just had an Ultra 5 given to me, and I wanted to install Solaris 10 on it. But now it seems 128 MB of ram isn't enough for the install?? With the cost of sun ram, its hardly even worth trying to upgrade it. Does anyone know if there is a way to get it installed? Is there any kind of off the shelf ram compatible with it?

I have it on a few servers with less than 200 MB RAM,
    and it works really well.
One thing to keep in mind though is that its a quite
bad idea to try and run Java Desktop or Gnome when
you only have 128 MB of RAM, you should try and
download a small/flexible window manager such as
fvwm2 instead. Thats what i do on my laptop (which
    has 192 MB RAM).
.7/M.What about CDE with 256 MB RAM?
OpenSUSE 10.2 runs GNOME responsively with 256 MB RAM?
I have another issue with the install - it doesn't even start up on my 256 MB system.
I'll try the nowin option and see what it does.
I let it run all night and it didn't start up.
Bad karma when you're replacing a working Linux installation.

  • RAM requirements on WCI 10.3.0?

    Hello,
We using two browsing front ends and an app server for our portal architecture.
The front ends have an installation of the portal on them (only BEA API service and logger services installed). While the app server has everything else on it (search, publisher, collab etc).
We have 4GB RAM on the app server and 2GB RAM on the front ends.
Anyone ever see the need for more RAM on the Front Ends?
Just wondering how other people have servers configured
    Thanks,
    V

Check your Task Manager: Performance tab's "Peak Commit Charge" which displays the maximum amount of memory your server has used since it was last restarted.
If that number is more than 75% of your Physical Memory total (displayed on the Performance tab) then you'd probably get some benefit.
If your Peak is > your Physical Memory then you definitely need more memory.
The peak on our 2 front end servers is 3gb and the average total commit is 2.5gb, so 2gb of physical wouldn't be sufficient in our case.
Our config is the same as yours, but we have anti-virus and backup software (backup exec) running too.

That error tends to be a bit of a catch-all error sadly so it does not necessarily mean you are running out of memory. I would expect the Pixel Bender plugin to work reliably on your graphics card. What are the dimensions, in pixels, of the images you are processing? Please create a 512x512 pixel image and try processing it in the Pixel Bender plugin.

  • High Definition RAM Requirements

I currently have a 20" iMAC G5 (@2 ghz) with 1G of RAM. I am using a new Canon HV10 camera to import high definition video into iMovie HD. My video capture speed ranges from 1/2 speed to 1/8 speed. I have been experiencing audio sync issues which I think I have solved although my latest issue is it didn't capture the last 1.5 minutes of my movie. My question is does anyone believe that more RAM would help my situtation? Is there a way for me to determine if I have enough RAM to handle high definition video? Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks
    Kurt

    Kurt Thomas1-
More RAM might help. I do not think that it is your capture speed.
You should have the camera plugged directly into the Mac (no hub) and have no other programs running while importing your video.
