As part of the J2EE recommended cluster, I attempted installing patch 108528-26 to my Solaris 8 box (all of which was downloaded from sun.com):
SunOS boedev 5.8 Generic_108528-14 sun4u sparc SUNW,UltraAX-MP

ROSS CPU didn't work with kernel patch 112233-07
Just noticed my HyperSPARC (ROSS CPU for S10/S20) had problem with kernel patch.
Got 2 X 180Mhz ROSS CPUs running fine with Solaris 9 (kernel level 112233-07) on S20 until applied the Recommended patches set (kernel level 112233-12), once the patches set installed and reboot, the S20 won't boot up anymore and showed some error on the kernel...
Reinstall again the Solaris 9 (kernel level 112233-07), and applied the Recommended patches set without kernel patch 112233-12, system boot up fine without issue.
Was looking around but didn't find anyone else got same issue (even on Sunsolve site) like me, maybe the box is too old to play with...
Cheers,Oops, put wrong patch ID in subject...

Patch 9655006 failed with code 135 when applying to Oracle Restart
Hi all,
I install Oracle RAC single node version 11.2.0.1 on Linux (kernel 2.6.18).
I try to apply patch 9655006 (prerequis for upgrade to 11.2.0.2).
Everything is OK for grid applying with success.
When I apply this patch to oracle db home, I get :
Oracle Interim Patch Installer version 11.2.0.1.5
Copyright (c) 2010, Oracle Corporation. All rights reserved.
Argument(s) Error... Given 'ocmrf' file does not exists.
Please check the arguments and try again.
OPatch failed with error code 135
I've given the complete path and filename (same as for grid applying).
I've found A document [ID 1283954.1], but not useful in my case.
Any ideas for workaround ?
TIA

Could you try it again with debug info? Before you run the opatch, run the following:

Looks like I should not apply this patch, it assume the version of 11.2.0.2, I am on 11.2.0.1.
What took me off a little was this statement me in the BUG:12317756 - DBCONSOLE PERFORMANCE PAGE NO LONGER DISPLAYS ON LINUX
"it used to work in previous versions including 11.2.0.1"
and this is not true for me - I have 11.2.0.1. and it is not working - the graph can not be displayed.
So I guess I am back to the original question I was asking about in my other post. Let me see if other 2 Notes you provided will take me to any other patch
Thank you

Install Recommended Path Cluster Fails
When I try to install the patch cluster on a new install I get two kinds of failures depending on what I am trying to do.
I am installing on a 2900 and the Solaris 2.10 (3/05)
If I use the nosave option then I get a failure code of 45
If I don't use the nosave option I get this:
ld.so.1: zonename: fatal: relocation error: file /sbin/zonename: symbol zonecfg_is_scratch: referenced symbol not found
Can someone tell me what is going on?I had the same error yesterday, but only in a zone, not the global one.
Here is how I solved my problem:
FROM THE LOCAL ZONE:
# ldd /sbin/zonename
libzonecfg.so.1 => /usr/lib/libzonecfg.so.1
libc.so.1 => /lib/libc.so.1
libsocket.so.1 => /lib/libsocket.so.1
libnsl.so.1 => /lib/libnsl.so.1
libxml2.so.2 => /usr/lib/libxml2.so.2
libmp.so.2 => /lib/libmp.so.2
libmd5.so.1 => /lib/libmd5.so.1
libscf.so.1 => /lib/libscf.so.1
libpthread.so.1 => /lib/libpthread.so.1
libz.so.1 => /usr/lib/libz.so.1
libm.so.2 => /lib/libm.so.2
libdoor.so.1 => /lib/libdoor.so.1
libuutil.so.1 => /lib/libuutil.so.1
/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240/lib/libc_psr.so.1
/platform/SUNW,Sun-Fire-V240/lib/libmd5_psr.so.1
I noticed 2 .so files the were local to the zone (in /usr). Since the "zonename" command worked fine in the global zone, I suspected corrupted librairies.
FROM THE GLOBAL ZONE:
bash-3.00# diff /usr/lib/libzonecfg.so.1 /mnt/ms012/root/usr/lib/libzonecfg.so.
1
Binary files /usr/lib/libzonecfg.so.1 and /mnt/ms012/root/usr/lib/libzonecfg.so.1 differ
So here is my problem. I just took the .so file from the global zone to the local one.
bash-3.00# cp /usr/lib/libzonecfg.so.1 /mnt/ms012/root/usr/lib
bash-3.00# zlogin ms012
[Connected to zone 'ms012' pts/1]
Last login: Tue Jan 22 10:33:33 on pts/1
Sun Microsystems Inc. SunOS 5.10 Generic January 2005
*# zonename*
ms012
Voil! the zonename command works fine again. After that, I did a clear on all services tagged in maintenance state in svcs -a. -
Installing OEL on pavilion dv7 4054CA failing with kernel panic
I am trying to install OEL 4.8 (5.5 gives errors too but not as details as 4.8 )on pavilion dv7 4054CA I7 4-core/8 thread laptop but the installation terminates shortly with kernel panic. I gathered the below errors from the screen:
kernel panic - not syncing
drivers/acpi/ec.c:162
spin_is_locked on unintiialized spinlock
acpi-0352
acpi-1134
acpi-0691 : *** Error: acpi_ev_ype_dispatch
It looks like a CPU issue. My laptop is brand new and works fine and I want to install Linux on it.
So any one can help on this?
Thanks.Oracle Linux, like all Linux for Enterprise systems, was developed for server hardware and will most likely have trouble to fully support laptops or desktop PC systems. Even if you get the system installed, you may run into trouble with proper support for laptop power management, touchpad, video and wireless support.
A good alternative to run Oracle Linux, or Enterprise Linux on a Laptop is Oracle Virtualbox. It allows you to install multiple common operating systems without the need to repartition your harddrive or jeopardize your primary operating system. Virtualbox is free. More info can be found here http://www.virtualbox.org. If you would like to use Linux as your primary OS or dual-boot, better consider a desktop Linux system like Fedora, Ubuntu or SUSE office desktop - you will be much happier with it. Please note that Oracle Express will easily install and support desktop Linux, but Oracle RDBMS does only support Enterprise Linux versions and will require special attention to get installed on Linux desktops.
In order to start OEL from your computer and work-around the issue you are experiencing, you might try to specify boot parameters, such as acpi=ht or acpi=off

[Solved] kernel 2.6.28.1 compilation fails with reiser4 patch
Hi,
has anyone had problems compiling the latest kernel with the reiser4 patch?
The patching process itself completes successfully apart from this part:

Hunk #2 succeeded at 1811 (offset 3 lines).
patching file mm/filemap.c
While the compilation fails here

Hi,
I've updated kernel 710 to the latest patch "159" on my PI 7.10 system, however now Check DB fails when scheduled from DB13 with a

We have SQL 2005 & I'm able to execute the job succesfully via the SQL Managemnt console.
Also, all the other background jobs are working just fine.
Pls. help.
Thanks,

Edited by: Rajeev Ganju on Jul 22, 2009 2:37 PMHello,
Since I'm on SQL, I use DB13 just for Check DB.
I've tried deleting everything & recreating the schedule, but it has'nt helped.
Even after rescheduling, SM37 doesnt reflect the scheduled jobs.
Thanks,
Saba.

VM creation on a cluster fails with Internal error code: 0x80990C1D
I am getting the following error when creating a VM from template on a 2012 R2 cluster:
Error (3101)
VMM failed to mount virtual hard disk (VHD) file XXXX.vhdx on the XXXX server. A timeout occurred.
Internal error code: 0x80990C1D
Recommended Action
Open Services to make sure the startup type for Virtual Disk service is set to manual or automatic. Ensure that the service can start and then try the operation again.
The errer occurs while running "Install VM Components" task. I did check services on the host and all is running as expected. The same template works without problem on non-clustered hosts, but fails two out of three times on HV cluster with
CSV storage on FC SAN. I am running SCVMM 2012 R2 UR3.
Any ideas what may cause this issue?
Thanks
Gleb.Hi,
it's a strentgh issue. I don't have any certain information on the hand but I am just thinking out loud now. Maybe it helps.
If it fails at "Install VM Components" this would mean that the problem occurs during injecting or ejecting the integration services. I am right now not sure if VMM injects the integration services as an ISO file or as an vhd file. The second option is also
possible.
From this point of view my question would be;
1) Are you creating the VM from a blank disk with an ISO OS file attached ? If yes
2) Are you experienceing the same problem with an syspreped vhd or vhdx file too ?
3) How many VM's are running on your Cluster Nodes ?
4) Are there any differences in the behavior when you select a different cluster node as destination host during the creation of a VM from template ?
5) What's the workload on your cluster nodes right now disk, memory, cpu ?

How to manually install the Solaris Patch SunOS 5.10_x86: Kernel Patch ?
Same as subject.
download the patch from sunsolve.
unzip it
patchadd <patchnumber>
reboot immediately.
The recommended procedure is to do it with the machine in single user mode.
But usually making the machine as quiescent as possible eg killing of daemons and runnin g jobs is sufficient. -
Installing Print Drivers on Server 2008 R2 cluster - Failing with error 0x000000006be
Hello,
I'm currently working with a client that has a Cluster that has 24 servers with 84 resources. This cluster is dedicated to printing only. They have multiple types of printer brands and various different models of each brand. The problem is when they try
to install a Xerox GPD PS, PCL, PCL6 3.3 driver which is the newest driver it has issues with the install with
"An unexpected error occurred in the print driver. Close the current driver window and retry the operation"
The other errror is
"Unable to install printer. Operation could not be completed (error 0x00006be)"
This happens on all of the clusters and physical machines. What can i do to look and find where the problem lies?Here are some of the windows event logs

Solaris 10 U4 and kernel patches
When I install a fresh U4 machine, I then (as I always do) apply the recommended patch cluster. U4 has kernel patched to 120011-14. In the patch cluster, there are kernel patches 118833-36 and also 120011-14. When I run the patch cluster, it installs 118833-36! Isn't this older than the kernel on there? Shouldn't both 118833-36 and 120011-14 BOTH not install as the kernel is already at level 120011-14. The cluster gets to 118833-36 installs that and then of course every patch after that one fails as the machine is waiting for a reboot.
KJP 137138-09 should be ok with cpquary3 driver 1.9.1. KJP 137138 introduced new feature which does not allow misaligned pointer mutexes to work and panics the system. with revision 07 SUN introduced a new environment variable as a for applications which cannot be ported easily "6729759 need to accommodate non-8-byte-aligned mutexes".
This is documented in alert 244606 "The resolution for OpenSolaris releases sets _THREAD_LOCKS_MISALIGNED to 0. This is to ensure that any faulty applications fail and are identified. To allow such applications to continue to work on OpenSolaris releases based upon snv_96 or later, the environment variable _THREAD_LOCKS_MISALIGNED must be set to 1." For this to work you need to have revision 09 of this KJP applied.
Can you post the stack trace so i can have a look at it. I guess you have another application which uses unaligned mutexes.
A pkginfo of the cpquary3 package would also be useful.
