J2re-1_4_1-windows

I've had a problem with j2re-1_4_1-windows (FCS):
It didn't install WebStart properly until I cleared out the registry
entries for JavaSoft JRE and Java Webstart.
That in return was probably a leftover from my frequent install/uninstall of 1.4.0 / 1.4.1-rc JRE and SDK.
Anyway it's now working properly so I thought I pass this on.
Cheers.
Martin

I have had this issue as well with 1.4.0_01 and 1.4.1 fcs. I assume that you mean
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Runtime Environment and
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\JavaSoft\Java Web Start
Can you confirm that? Thanks.

  • Why j2re-1_4_1 smaller than j2re-1_4_0_02 (win)?

    Hi,
    I just wonder why j2re-1_4_1-windows-i586-i.exe (9,931,816 bytes) is smaller than the older j2re-1_4_0_02-windows-i586-i.exe (12,233,328 bytes)? Is ther some stripped functionallity or is it just a more compact installation?
    currios

    I think it's a result of the developers continually trying to optimize the size of just about everything in Java.

  • J2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe  Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library Runtim

    I am using Netscape 6.2.1, Windows 98
    I download Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition 1.4.1_01
    * Download j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe .
    Filesize = 8,015,928 bytes.
    When I looked in the directory the file was listed as
    j2re-1_4_1_01-windows-i586
    7,829KB
    Does the file downloaded size discrepency have significance?
    Double clicking on the file activated the process:
    "After the InstallShield Wizard
    Setup Status
    Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_01 Setup is performing the requested operations."
    After that function appered to finish with a 100% complete, I received the following error:
    "Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library
    Runtime Error!
    Program: C:\PROGRAM FILES\JAVA\J2RE1.4.1_01\LIB\UNPACK.EXE
    abnormal program termination
    OK"
    Note, I may have installed Visual C++ in the past but have never used it. Does this error imply there are some missing links to Visual C++ that have confused and caused an error?
    Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Hi, crlare,
    The official file size
    8,015,928 bytes
    = (8,015,928 / 1024) kilobytes, since 1 kbyte = 1024 bytes
    = 7828.0546875 kbytes
    = 7829 kbytes after rounding up
    Therefore your downloaded file seems to have the correct size. To make a better check,
    1. right click on your downloaded file;
    2. select Properties;
    3. check the size in bytes in brackets against the official size in bytes; the "bytes used" is the actual space allocated to store the data.
    The Visual C++ runtime error is caused by a faulty installation of the Java bundle, which could have arisen due to interference by other applications that are open during the installation of the Java bundle. e.g. Interference by virus protection software running in the background. This error has also been known to occur in the installations of other programs.
    To fix the problem, uninstall the Java Runtime Environment (JRE) you have installed, and reinstall it with all non-critical applications closed:
    1. Choose Start > Settings > Control Panel.
    2. Double-click Add/Remove Programs, select Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.1_01 (or something similar), click on the Add/Remove button to uninstall the JRE.
    3. Reboot your system.
    4. Close all non-critical applications, including background running programs such as antivirus programs and Microsoft Task Scheduler. This can be checked/done by pressing Ctrl-Alt-Del, selecting each item except Explorer (and Systray), and clicking End Task for each.
    5. Reinstall the JRE.
    6. Reboot your system.
    Hope this helps.

  • Silent Install of j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe ???

    I have tried to do a silent installtion of j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe with this command line syntax :
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe /S /v/qn"ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=C:\java\jre REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 /L C:\temp\javainstall.log"
    The installation process starts what I could see in Task Manager a process called " j2re-1_4_2_03-w" starts but dissapear in 10 sec and the installation does not continue what I could see. No installation directory has been created and no log etc.
    Do anyone have any clue what could be the issue here, do I use wrong syntax etc ??
    We are going to use Sun Java runtime instead of Microsoft Java Virtual Machine, when that is going to be unsupported Sept 30 -04.

    The correct syntax for the command line should be
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v"/qn ADDLOCAL=ALL IEXPLORER=1 INSTALLDIR=C:\java\jre REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 /L C:\temp\javainstall.log"
    The first " (Quote) should be between the /v and the /qn without any spaces. There should be a space after the /qn and before any other parameters.

  • J2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe corrupted (cannot unpack)

    I cannot install j2sdk 1.4.1.
    First I downloaded it from http://java.sun.com/webapps/download/DisplayLinks
    "You have chosen to download Java(TM) 2 SDK, Standard Edition 1.4.1
    Download j2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe .
    Filesize = 37,724,482 bytes."
    to
    c:\Downloads\j2sdk-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe 37,724,482 bytes
    Correct number of bytes.
    Double-clicking on this file brings up a dialog with title
    "Java 2 SDK - InstallShield Wizard"
    with a progress bar labelled "Reading contents of package..."
    The progress bar reaches 100% and then starts from 0 again. Shortly after, the dialog is replaced with an error dialog stating:
    "The contents of this file cannot be unpacked. The executable you are attempting to run has been corrupted. Please obtain another copy of the file, verify its integrity, and try again."
    This is the third time that I have tried to install the Java 2 SDK and each time I have had the same result. Each time the downloaded file has had the correct number of bytes. There are many posts here describing the same problem, but I have not seen one that has a universal solution.
    It seems to me that the problem is to do with the installation environment:
    Operating system: Windows 95 Copyright 1981  1996
    Pentium MMX 166 MHz, 64 MB RAM, 3GB unused disk space
    J2SDK-1_4_1-WINDOWS-I586.EXE Dependencies:

    LZ32.DLL 4.0.0.950
    SHELL32. DLL 4.0.0.1111
    USER32. DLL 4.0.0.950
    I have 2 versions of InstallShield installed. I think that the problem is with my operating system or my InstallShield installations. Anyone know the solution?

    Window 95 is not supported for this version and you are at the ragged edge as far as processor speed.
    This is the beginning of the installation instructions that are on the download page:
    "System Requirements
    The JavaTM 2 SDK is supported on Microsoft Windows 98 (1st or 2nd edition), Windows NT 4.0 with with Service Pack 5 or later, Windows ME, Windows XP, Windows 2000 with Service Pack 2 or later, running on Intel hardware. In non-English locales, the only edition of Microsoft Windows 2000 tested with this release is the Professional edition.
    Note -- Trying to install the Java 2 SDK on a non-supported version of Microsoft Windows or on a machine that doesn't have a sufficiently up-to-date Service Pack will cause the installer to generate this warning: "We recommend that you do not install this Java(TM) Platform for the following reasons: This Java(TM) Platform does not support the operating system or operating-system service pack on this machine."
    A Pentium 166MHz or faster processor with at least 32 megabytes of physical RAM is required to run graphically based applications. Forty-eight megabytes of RAM is recommended for applets running within a browser using the Java Plug-in product. Running with less memory may cause disk swapping which has a severe effect on performance. Very large programs may require more RAM for adequate performance.
    You should have 120 megabytes of free disk space before attempting to install the Java 2 SDK software."

  • J2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p Slient Intall not work... pls help...

    I've created a batch file to slient install j2re 1.4.2 for our PC, just like below:
    @echo off
    C:\java\j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v "/qn /L C:\Java\setup.log REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 IEXPLORER=1"
    exit
    after I run the batch file, task manager showed the process "j2re-1_4_2_06-windows-i586-p" for just a few second... after that, nothing has been done...
    I would like to ask what is the problem with the batch file ? our computer all running with WinXP SP2,
    Thank you very much

    Ok. I think i've found a solution that at least it's working for me. Don't ask me the exact details, because i'm no java expert. I believe it's related to the java version firefox recognise. In my case, since i'm using 2.0.0.6, all i did was add this parameter for my config section:
    jpi_mimetype=application/x-java-applet (pick the lastest one installed i guess).
    Now, everything it's working OK.
    Best regards, Luis ...!

  • Having trouble installing j2re-1_4_06-windows-i586

    Hello! I recently built a computer and am trying to install Java 2 Runtime Environment on it. The computer has WinXP, SP2 on it. I downloaded j2re-1_4_06-windows-i586 from Java.com and began to install it. Towards the end of the installation process, a message popped up saying "Java(TM) Update (1.4.2_14-b05) cannot be installed on this machine because the Java(TM) Virtual Machine is currently running. Please close all running Java(TM) applications, especially browsers." I have run into this problem in the past with another XP machine. I don't recall how to correct it though. What do I need to do to fix this?
    M Ridzon

    I'd suggest check the running processes on the machine and see if a Java VM is running, if so, kill it from the Task Manager.

  • Install fails j2re-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe

    I'm also having this problem with j2sdk-1_4_2_01-windows-i586.exe. The install starts ok, but I ghen get "Failed to extract file Dll_.ini" from the binary table. the 1.3 runtime installs fine, but it looks like the installer changed with 1.4

    I finally got this running, but it doesn't make a lot of sense. I took a look at: http://support.installshield.com/kb/view.asp?pcode=ALL&articleid=Q105416&source=support_central&product=wind
    I wasn't willing to make all the security changes it suggested, but tried a couple of them which didn't work and I restored the original permissions. I noticed that most if not all gave permissions to local admins, but not domain admins. That gave me the idea of trying log on to the local machine. I did that and both the jre and jdk installed without a hitch. I can't explain why this worked as this machine and my office machine are virtually the same and I built most of both networks. I log on to both machines with my domain userid. The office machine worked the first time. I will be taking a look at the installshield article again to compare the settings on both machines.
    Bottom line, try logging in on the local machine and installing.

  • J2RE Making Windows Flip Out Scrambling Screen

    Using Dell GX270 Machines Update Java to latest version. Everything seems to work fine. But when Launching Java in Web pages on occasion the whole screen Scrambles. tool bars on top of screen. windows flickering Machine Locking up etc.. sometimes you can Alt+F4 the application if you are lucky. Mostly you just have to reboot the machine..
    After reading through posts I think these Machines have ATI Video cards. Do I need to upgrade the Drivers? or Someone had posted turning off Video Acceleration inside of Java but dont seem to see that option in the control Panel under Java Plugin. Do I put something in the java Runtime Paramaters section under advanced? This happends sporaticly on several machines. Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks.

  • Creating silent install for j2re-1_4_2_03

    We are in the processing of updating the JRE to 1.4.2_03, but end-users being what they are, we create a silent install to control the JRE installation.
    I cannot get the command line option to create a .iss file. I have tried these different commands:
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe /r /f1C:\jre\jresetup.iss
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe -r /f1C:\jre\jresetup.iss
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe /r
    j2re-1_4_2_03-windows-i586-p.exe -r
    Depending on which InstallShield article you read, the RECORD option is either /r or -r....neither work.

  • Installing JRE v1.3.1-02

    I have to install this on several hundred computers from an MSI package.
    Are there any command-line switchs to automate the prompts that I get when installing it manually?
    Thanks

    InstallShild can do this you create a ISS file with
    j2re-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe -a -r -f1C:\setup.iss
    (see example below)
    Then you can run
    2re-1_4_1-windows-i586.exe -s -a -s -f1b:\setup.iss -f2C:\setup
    to automate the install.
    The VBS script should alow you to install on a remote computer (this might need some tweaking, I don't think I ever used it for more than just testing, we ended up sticking the JRE on the default disk image, and blatting all the computers, then using JavaWebStart to update the JRE)
