J2sdk 1.4.2 install fails on linux 2.4.24 *without* X11

Hello,
Am trying to install j2sdk1.4.2 on a linux 2.4.24 box. It does not have X11 installed, and for security reasons, I would like to not turn on X11 forwarding in sshd.
When I try to install it, a la:
# ./j2sdk-installer -console
It gives me a menu: choose 1 for next, 3 to cancel, 4 to redisplay.
I select 1, and it then exits without installing or any other message.
Do you have suggestions? Please respond to me via email: [email protected]
Thanks,

i think there is a command called rpm why don't you try this out.

as you see all checks passed OK, but the whole install failed. What could be wrong? And what is XML parser init: error 54?

    Where's the WebLogic Server home???
Else you should attach this to an existing WebLogic domain

  • Sun Studio 10 Linux, RHEL3 U4, install fails on openmotif21.

    Hello everyone,
As a long-time user of Sun WorkShop... I mean Forte.. I mean Studio; it was with great anticipation that I downloader Sun Studio 10 for Linux.
On one machine it failed to install and on another it installed properly.
    Here are the details:
    - Machine 1: RHEL3 U2 (x86/i686), small install: Installation of Studio 10 went fine.
    - Machine 2: RHEL3 U4 (x86/i686), complete install : Installation of Studio 10 failed. The following can be gathered from the logs under /var/opt/sun:
    [....snip....]
    Installing Sun Studio Software
    Log file: /var/opt/sun/install/logs/Sun_Studio_Software_install.A04060111
    Installed: /var/prod/com.sun.studio_10/uninstall_Sun_Studio_Software.class
    Uninstaller is at: /var/prod/com.sun.studio_10/uninstall_Sun_Studio_Software.class
    Standalone Tools: Building Software
    Installing RPM: sun-dmake-10.0-1
    [....snip....]
System packages supporting Sun Studio Software
    Installing RPM: openmotif-2.1.31-2_IST
    error: Failed dependencies:
    openmotif < 2.2.2 conflicts with openmotif21-2.1.30-9.RHEL3.4
    Error: RPM openmotif-2.1.31-2_IST install failed}.
    Install complete. Package: openmotif-2.1.31-2_IST
rpm: Skipping rpm remove of openmotif-2.1.31-2_IST, not installed.
rpm: Skipping rpm remove of sun-svc-locale-zh-10.0-1, not installed.
    [....snip....]
And everything is removed. Is this issue documented somewhere? Is there a workaround?
    Thanks for reading,
    Vincent

Deselecting 'system supporting packages' from the Sun Studio 10 installation list made the trick and Studio finished installing.
However, I have a few concerns:
    1) Since Studio will be using the system's openmotif, will it be supported? (I guess not).
    2) Since openmotif-2.1.31-2_IST.i386.rpm from the Studio 10 IDE kits lands under /usr/OpenMotif-2.1.31 and should not conflict with any kind of other/system openmotif, why didn't SUN just create a sun-openmotif-support package? This would prevent a naming conflict when trying to install on RHEL3 if RHEL's openmotif21 is already installed?
    3) It appears to work fine, even without SUN's provided openmotif.
    Cheers,
    Vincent

  • Cannot install creator-2_1-linux-ml.bin

    This is the scenario:
    Hardware:
P IV, 3 GHz, HT enabled, 4 GB RAM DDR 1, DD SATA.
    Software:
Linux Fedora Core 5, I've made "yum update" so I suppouse that everyting it's updated by now.
    J2SDK:
    jdk-1_5_0_06-linux-1586.rpm
I've setup JAVA_HOME so if i type "java -version" responds wtih the appropiate string: java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Run Time Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
I've installed succesfully Java Studio Enterprise 8 and seams to work fine, just did a new jsp and click on run, starts the web browser (mozilla) and appears the adequate page.
But when I try to install creator-2_1-linux-ml.bin the installer responds:
"This application requires a Java Run Time Environment (JRE) to run. Searching for one on your computer was not successful. Please use the command line switch -is:javahome to specify a valid JRE. For more help use the option -is:help."
    And that's all.
With or with out the switch it still not working.
Weird!!!, why is Java Studio Enterprise Working any way?
Am I using the adequate jdk?
Doesn't have the rpm package a jre bundled, why don't the package use their own jre?
I almost forgot, I uninstall all the java packages on my sistem an only reinstale the refered rpm, i hope all the other apps still work.

  • Oracle 8.1.6 Release 2 fails on Linux 7.2

    Ramanujam S. Paravastu.

I have a similar problem. I Tried all sorts of permutation combination after having failed to install as your case. I even tried to install JDK1.1.6 but was not sucdessful in installing J.D.K 1.1.6 as I am a novice on Linux platform and am very much keen to have an experience of Oracle on Linux. Actually after downloading JDK1.1.6 I was unable to install it on Linux as I said I am a novice . TRY THIS OUT IT MIGHT WORK!!!!!! If you are able to do so please let me know

  • How to install PEAR on Linux server

    Hi
I have PHP installed on one linux server and developers are using it already. I have been given the task to get the oci8 (oracle connectivity) done on this same server. I can not do the reinstall of whole PHP again. During the install of OCI extention I got many errors for missing PEAR files.
So I went through the PEAR document and found "php go-pear.php" command to install the PEAR package. This command fails with below error.
download of http://pear.php.net/get/PEAR?uncompress=yes failed: Failed to parse address "" (0)
The problem is this Linux box does not have direct internet connectivity so I had to download all the required packages as per go-pear.php on my local machine and I am FTPing them to this linux box. I have kept the "PEAR-1.8.1.tar" file in the same directory where go-pear.php file exists but still the above command tries to download it from internet.
Could you please tell me how can I overcome this problem. Please let me know if there are any RPM's that I can use to install PEAR rather that "php go-pear.php" command.
    Thanks
    Shelly

    Hi CJ.
It has been more than 4 weeks that I am strugling to get PHP-Oracle work on my system. You are the only hope right now. I have gone through so many articles and white pages that I am totally confused and starting to hate PHP or actually Suse Linux. :-)
Below are the details of my system.
    more SuSE-release
SUSE LINUX Enterprise Server 9 (i586)
    VERSION = 9
    PATCHLEVEL = 4

This is what I see on my system

    /usr/bin> whereis php
php: /usr/bin/php /etc/php.ini /usr/lib/php /usr/include/php /usr/share/php /usr/share/man/man1/php.1.gzI see that PHP is already installed on my system which is version PHP 4.3.4.
    Question.
    1) Do i have to upgrade the PHP version to the latest to get OCI8 configured?
    2) If the answer to the above question is Yes than could you point me to any reference doc?
    3) If the upgrade is not needed, how can I configure PHP to use OCI8 to connect to database?
    Thanks in advance

  • Solaris 10 DVD install fails at 90%

Hi, this is my first time posting here. I've used a variety of linux distributions for a few years now: first Red Hat, then Suse, then Ubuntu, and currently Gentoo. So I have familiarity with installs and *nix systems.  Now I'm trying to install Solaris 10 on a second hard drive with the install DVD that I burned from a download.  After a few tries, and learning some Solaris command line, I went ahead and selected my custom packages, then made my custom partitioning layout on the second disk, then I began the package install.
It took a while, so I was not there the whole time, but before the error, package install was at 90%. I know I had enough room on the partition for all the packages. After checking the system again I found that it had stopped, and began complaining about not finding packages on the install disk.
I tried the install again, this time with a minimum of my intervention and custom packaging selection. Again the install fails after it is mostly installed. After learning how to mount an IBM formatted disk, I copied the install logs to it, and I'd like to attach them to this post, but I can't see how to do that, if anyone can tell me how to add log files, I'd appreciate it. I just don't want to paste their entire contents here because they're too large.
Thanks in advance for the help,

Hi. I had your same problem with Solaris Express Developer Edition 01/08.
The PC was complaining about the failed installation of some packages:
    SUNWsndmr
    SUNWsndmu
    SUNWsolnm
I suspected they were audio drivers and/or libraries.
So I decided to do an absolutely minimum installation and I even excluded anything that was unnecessary and Audio-related. Actually Solaris Installer complained about unsatisfied USB debendencies, but went on anyway...
    And it worked!
    Solaris completed the installation.
I don't know if it's possible to add the left out drivers in a second moment yet. We'll see.
Maybe I'm wrong but, from your logfiles you seem to have a similar problem with:
    SUNWgttf
    SUNWgnome-config
    SUNWgnome-vfs-root
And I suspect it may be due to a CD/DVD read error.

  • Error installing package on Linux using SDM.

    Hello Everyone...
I am having an issue getting a package installed on RHEL using the SDM. The package I'm trying to install is BP SAP CRM 5.0 SP01. The error I'm getting is as follows (shortened for space and info reasons):
DeploymentActionException: The substitution of deployment parameter variables failed. The following variables could not be substituted because theyare not known by the SDM-Repository:com.sap.cm.shareTo fix this problem go to the SDM-Repository-View of the SDM GUIand define substitution values for these variables or correct thetype information. Please note these are not typos or gramatical errors. This is verbatim from the error message.
If I take a look at Deployment Parameter Substitutions ==> Public substitution variables, I do not see a com.sap.cm.share defined anywhere, but I have never had to define anything while installing this under Windows in the past with identical settings in the SDM GUI.
Is this just a simple matter of defining the variable, or could this be a permissions/config issue with Linux? If it does need defining, if anyone has any ideas what the variables should be would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks in advance!

Just an FYI, the answer to this was found over at Re: Troublshooting While Deploying CRM 5.0 BP on Enterprise Portal 7.0 A word of warning, the parameter variable needs to be listed as Com.sap.cm.share (just as it is listed in the post). I had been trying it as com.sap.cm.share, and it would not work when I tried to save it. Also, for those new to Linux, you need to use the / character, not the \ character as shown on the forum post if you are installing it under Linux.
