J2sdkee-1_4-beta-windows.exe drops before install complete on W2K Pro

I ran the j2sdk-1_4_1_01-windows-i586.exe, got it installed & running with no problems.
When I double click on j2sdkee-1_4-beta-windows.exe or when I select it through MS Add/Remove Programs, it starts up, showing the progress bar & saying InstallSheild is preparing the InstallSheild Wizard, which will guide you through the rest of the process.
The progress bar runs across several times, and then the panel just closes. Nothing is installed, there is nothing to remove, there are no registry entries for the j2sdkee. There are no entries in the application event log.
I did have to do the manual uninstall including editing the registry, but that was before I rebooted, downloaded a clean copy and tried to run the installer.
Any other options? Can someone point me in a direction? Am I just missing something?
Thanks for your help.
KatL

Clarification:
"I did have to do the manual uninstall including editing the registry, but that wasLbefore I rebooted, downloaded a clean copy and tried to run the installer."
I uninstalled the previous j2eesdk manually. There were some problems with the Add/Remove programs not removing the registry entry. That was when I rebooted the machine & started the download and install process from the beginning. I have not managed to get this version installed yet.

the DISPLAY environment variable is used by linux/unix programs to figure out which X server to connect to when displaying graphics. There're a couple of long explanations at the bottom of
http://www.linux.org/docs/ldp/howto/HOWTO-INDEX/howtos.html. Google gave me a more concise explanation at
http://www.yale.edu/ceo/Documentation/UnixManual/node23.html. If you're running the program on the same machine as your monitor is hooked up to, you'll very likely want DISPLAY to be localhost:0.0
If you're running your program remotely, you'll want to replace localhost with the name of the machine to which your monitor is connected.
As for the original question on this thread. I'm guessing that you probably don't have an X server running. The HOWTO-INDEX link above will probably explain what's going on better than I could.

First of all, you'll have to install full JDK in order to run J2EE 1.4 Application Server - JRE will not be enough. If installation still reports the same message after you install JDK, provide -javahome <jkd_path> parameter when you invoke installer.

I'm a recently transformed "Windows to Apple" user, and I need to run various Windows software.  Before installing Windows, I would like to hear from experiences from users if it works well. Also, I have an "Office for PC" that I need to re-download, however I was advised by someone that this software cannot be downloaded even if I had Windows in my MAC and that I will have to buy a new "Office for MAC" software.  Thanks.

Yes, what you are looking at will work.
"Most of this would be for access to the shared folders which is not the same as RDP, correct?  So i could
have myself connect from school to pull a word document, my friend connect from home to get the excel spreadsheet for our table top gaming, and my family connect to pull pictures from the shared folder on the server all at the same time.  Because they
are accessing the shared folders it is not a RDP where they are accessing the server itself for administration."
This statement is correct.  All of them would be able to be accessing the shared folders at the same time.  This is the purpose of shared folders.
"the 1 user and RDP part is where I'm getting a little confused i think.
For the RDP part I thought that only applied to the server itself and not any of the client computers
connected to the server.  So you are still limited to the 2 users to connect concurrently to the server or a client computer at any time?"
Sorry, not trying to confuse you.  You mentioned to connect to a local machine at the same time.  If you are staying away from RDP, then you won't have this issue.  I would keep all shared folders on the server,  not on any workstations.
You are correct 2 people can be RDP into a server at once.  For client computers (workstations) you are limited to 1 person at a time.  If you setup Anywhere Access correctly,  then your friends and family should not need to RDP into a
client computer, they should only need to access the shared folders.
Something to keep in mind...for Anywhere Access to work, you will need to purchase a public certificate.  You can do this from GoDaddy.com, Comodo or others. I would recommend either Godaddy or comodo.  They make it easy and give plenty of instructions
on how to obtain the certificate.  You will probably also have to purchase a domain name, and a static IP from your ISP.  To fully do what you are looking at, it will take some out of pocket $$.

  • Before installing SSD in macbook pro, should I first partition it through USB?

    Hi there,
I've got the Crucial MX100 as an upgrade from my Hitachi HDD. I don't need to copy anything from the old drive, and I will install Yosemite via usb flash.
I did a bit of research and some people (not mac users necessarily) have had problems in partitioning the SSD after attaching it to the sata port. My question is: would it be recommended to first create a GUID partition through USB on the ssd before installing it in? I think I know the answer to that, and my instincts tell me to trust the Mac, but I want to be sure.
    Thank you!
    Early 2011 MBP, 512GB Crucial MX100

Even if you have the same name as Grant Pannell the "pioneer" in the starting period of the SSDs, you can not post your statement as the truth.
And it certainly has nothing to do with data integrity. Can you tell me if Apple has something special in their SSD controller or the standard controller ?
If you refer to old SSDs with controllers of 3 or 4 years old, and a pre_Yosemite OS, Trim may have been interesting to install, I did it on all SSds then, and I am using SSDs already for 5 years. but in the last 2 years the SSD controllers are so advanced that - when overprovisioning is enough, trim does not add anything anymore. In Yosemite it is certainly unrealistic to do because you have to disrobe an important layer of security.

  • Having trouble installing, telling me to close firefox, before instalations complete

after downloading new version, when I click run, then next, a message appears saying (Firefox must be closed to proceed with the installation. Please close firefox to continue.) & When I do, then the installation/setup stops too. Please help, I thank-u for your time.
    Sincerely,

If a reboot is needed then that usually means that some (security) software is blocking files.
    Do a clean (re-)install:
    * Download a fresh Firefox copy and save the file to the desktop.
    * Firefox 4.0.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all.html
    * Firefox 3.6.x: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/all-older.html
    * Uninstall your current Firefox version and remove the Firefox program folder before installing that copy of the Firefox installer.
    * Do not remove personal data if you uninstall the current version.
    * It is important to delete the Firefox program folder to remove all the files and make sure that there are no problems with files that were leftover after uninstalling.
Your bookmarks and other profile data are stored elsewhere (not in the Firefox program folder) and won't be affected by a reinstall, but make sure that you do not select to remove personal data if you uninstall Firefox.

  • Java_app_platform_sdk-5_07-windows.exe does not install

Recently I updated jre to build 1.6.0_13-b03, and wanted to update platform sdk from 5.06 to 5.07. However, I can not continue on the installing progress page "Select Installation Directory". I pressed "next" but nothing happened. I tried uninstalled jre and cleaned up it, then installed jre, but I still get stucked at the "Select Installation Directory" page of platform sdk installing progress.
Anybody knows how to fix that problem? Thank you.

I have found this page (http://osdir.com/ml/java.netbeans.j2ee/2007/msg01651.html), where they are talking about
a possible solution to my problem, but I am not sure at all. I can change my Windows Vista administrator name,
Jos, by localhost. I guess GlassFish does not work with this tag
    <jms-service addresslist-behavior="random" addresslist-iterations="3" default-jms-host="default_JMS_host" init-timeout-in-seconds="60"
    reconnect-attempts="3" reconnect-enabled="true" reconnect-interval-in-seconds="5" type="EMBEDDED">
    <jms-host admin-password="admin" admin-user-name="admin" host="*Jos1*" name="default_JMS_host" port="7676"/>
</jms-service>I have tried to put localhost as the conversation recommend but GlashFish does not work as well. I think I am getting closer to the solution.

  • Will Windows XP OEM edition install on Mac Book Pro?

I have done a forum search, but the answer is not clear to me. Seems to be conflicting info in other threads.
I need to run Windows on a new Mac Book Pro. My account rep at CDW said it was OK to sell me the OEM edition of Windows XP Home Edition w/SP2 as long as I was buying some other non-Microsoft hardware (which I was). So I did.
Now the package has arrived and I read the Microsoft label/license, I'm afraid to break the seal and open it in case it won't install properly.
Can anyone confirm the OEM edition will install properly, just like the retail? Price is not the issue. Should I return it and buy the full retail version?

    Hi Craig!
Simply put, OEM is just a form of a license but you should pay attention to what that license means.
Anything that is OEM is licensed to be used only with the "hardware" you purchased. That's why your CDW rep sold you something else. It may have been a token piece of hardware such as an Ethernet cable or electrical cord. IMHO, what he did was unethical but it's not illegal because they are technically following the rules of their reseller license. Many resellers do this with their customers unfortunately.
When you buy a new computer with Windows then that Windows license is OEM. That means its legal only for that computer. You are not allowed to transfer that copy of Windows to another computer or to a virtual machine. The hardware manufacturer (Dell, HP, etc.) is responsible for supporting you, not Microsoft. I would guess that technically CDW is now responsible for supporting your Windows installation. Do you think that will happen?
This document about OEM from Microsoft's website is fairly simply to understand <http://download.microsoft.com/download/4/e/3/4e3eace0-4c6d-4123-9d0c-c80436181 742/OSLicQA.doc>.
My advice is that you purchase a full shrink-wrapped Windows package and use that instead. You'll be paying more for it but you'll have the "legal" freedom to transfer it to any other machine once you're done using it on your current machine. I personally have no experience to tell you how OEM software will react if you try to move it to another system and activate it there.
    Hope this helps!

  • GPO to uninstall Flash before installing 10.1.53.64

When pushing out a software installation for the new install_flash_player_10_active_x.msi, it leaves previous versions installed even though Adobe's Flash test site says that the latest version is installed and in use. However, I'm sure that it is probably "best practice" to push out a script to uninstall all previous versions of Flash [i.e. uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall] before installing the latest version (10.1.53.64).
Is anyone using a GPO to push out a script to uninstall the previous versions of Flash before running the .MSI or .EXE to install the latest version (10.1.53.64)?We have several Flash versions out there, so attempting to Upgrade from an old GPO package AD isn't thorough enough.
I've tried running the uninstall_flash_player.exe -uninstall file (as a .VBS) with a precedence of 1 before the software installation GPO (as startup scripts), but it produces mixed results, so I'm not sure that this is the best method.
    So, two questions here:
    1) Does anyone forsee any real issue leaving previous versions installed (i.e. not uninstalling before installing new)?
    2) Otherwise, how is everyone handling uninstalling and reinstalling via GPO? Better suggestions on how to and in what order to push out the uninstall and install processes?
    Thanks much for your suggestions!

I am not using GPO, but to the best of my knowledge, the installer should automatically uninstall all previous FP versions.  See the install.log file (if that is produced using GPO).
However, sometimes the installer is unable to remove all components of old FP versions, e.g. if the users have web browsers running during the installation.  This may get fixed during the next reboot, but often it is not.

  • Is it better to uninstall LR4 before getting CC

I am considering getting CC, would I be better to uninstall LR4 before installing it ?

    Hi tattooedhippy,
If you are talking in regards to Lightroom, there is no CC version for it, latest version Is Lightroom  5.6.
It would be better if you install lightroom 5, explore it. Once you are satisfied with it, go ahead and uninstall Lightroom 4
below is the link to uninstall lightroom

  • Do I need to backup harddrives before install lion

Do I need to backup hardrives before installing lion, on mac-pro.  I have tons of pictures and video, and 2 harddrives, i have some on external hard drive, but not current stuff, and wanting to upgrade to Lion.  Please advise.  I am sure most are going to say back up, back up.  I guess I want to know if I will lose pics, documents, mail, if I upgrade.

    >Do I need to backup hardrives before installing lion, on mac-pro. \
That's a bit like asking, do I need to wear seatbelts? Seriously if you value your data, you need to backup your data, not just when installing Lion, but when installing anything, when making changes to your data, when renaming data.  Backing up is not an option, it is a must in the computing world.  See my backup FAQ*:
    http://www.macmaps.com/backup.html
    >I guess I want to know if I will lose pics, documents, mail, if I upgrade.
You could, in fact in one thread, someone backed up with Time Machine, and still lost pics because they didn't ensure their Time Machine had in fact backed up the pictures they wanted.  A clone backup is the only backup that ensures everything is backed up.  Anything can be lost in an upgrade too.  See what I have to say about other Lion pitfalls:*

  • Windows Defender Beta 2 Stops iTunes 6.03 From Installing Completely

    Hey,
There is a bug with Windows Defender Beta 2 and iTunes.
I thought I would tell apple and Microsoft about it. Check microsoft beta newsgroups.
When you install iTunes 6.03 and have Windows Defender Beta 2 running it will cause iTunes setup to error with the following:
    http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/2262/itunesinstallerror5it.png
Clicking ok and install continues like normal and iTunes is installed ok. Have not run into any problems because of the errror in iTunes.
Now after installing iTunes Windows Defender Beta 2 flags its install since its trying to install a service.
    See:
    http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/8954/windowsdefenderbeta2allowerror.png
    And:
    http://img324.imageshack.us/img324/5468/windowsdefenderbeta2allowerror1.png
So here is to hoping Apple and Microsoft work this out sooner than later.
    Take Care,

Custom Build   Windows XP   Geforce 6800

Katrina--Correct me if I'm wrong but there is no way to turn off the new Windows Defender software (it's the replacement for the Microsoft Anti-Spy beta software). Fortunately, I already had iTunes 6.02.23 installed before I installed Windows Defender earlier this week. I had some big problems accessing the music store yesterday, but I've resolved them. (And I really don't think Defender was causing the problems. I think the music store home page was overwhelmed by people participating in the current contest.) If there's a conflict between Defender and iTunes it helps those of us using both to know this. Then we can figure out troubleshooting solutions to resolve the problem. If we come up with workarounds, it helps everyone on this board, doesn't it?
P.S., I understand Spybot has problems with the newest version of iTunes too. The mini-store is the culprit. I don't think these programs prevent you from using iTunes they just don't like some of the features in the mini store--so they warn you about them.
