J2SE 1.5.02 not working

To whomever may help with my problem:
I have been trying to logon to sites and visit many webpages and I get "Click here to get the plugin" message with a light blue puzzle piece above the message. Then I follow that link to the download center, (which I don't need to do because I already have Java installed), and download the files that are needed. I then go through windows installer to install the plugin and it says that I don't need to install this because it is already installed, and also says if I want to install this then first I need to uninstall java and install again.
I am using windows xp with both service packs installed, and I am also using netscape 7.0; I also tried to use internet explorer but had the same problem there too, yet worse because on some pages I can't even see the puzzle peice and message.
I have tried to check the preferences and options for both IE and NS and all looks okay. I have looked in my computer and the java properties and it says everything there is good too; but I checked the box for the java teacup to appear in the lower right hand corner taskbar and it does not show. I have unistalled java and reinstalled through the website and still the same message. I have read alot of information in different forums and none of them seem to specifically address my problem. I once had the java running perfectly, but I do not know what could have caused the change. I have installed many programs on this computer, so maybe there may be an issue with that, yet still not sure.
If anyone can help me with this issue I would be very thankful.....

Please do not post your problem in multiple forums!

  • Help!! J2SE 1.4.1 Not working on pagebuilder and yahoo chats...help ple

    hi
    I am having trouble with loading geocities pagebuilder which uses java. It used to load ok but not anymore...also i cannot access yahoo chats which also use java...yahoo tells me that it might be my java not running properly....
    can anyone assist me to correct this problem?
    thanks
    mike

    It is not a problem with Java.. It is a problem with Yahoo.. See this below from another forum..
    "Alright, this is why the chat applet won't load (in anything but old
    versions of ie and netscape). Yahoo's applet is out of date. It uses
    the older versions of Java, of which there are numerous amounts. It
    used to be that when new classes (or functions) were created for Java,
    each browser would input them into the language differently. There
    were so many different types of Java that it was a real pain to
    programers.
    Recently Sun Microsystems (the creators of Java) re-created Java and
    forced all browsers to use it. IE refused, so forget about them
    completeley, they don't support Java, and that's where all those
    monopoly suites started. The new Netscape browsers (6.0 and up)
    support java, and so does Opera. The problem is that many of the sites
    that have applets either didn't want to update their sites, or they
    didn't know that Java had changed. You must find out if the site
    supports the Netscape or IE version of Java and use an old Netscape or
    IE browser to view the site.
    The consequence for Opera and Netscape is that they use JAVA 1.3 onwards so cant load yahoo chat. Internet Explorer will run chat as long as you use Virtual Machine by MS (which is no longer available cos they dont make it any more), but if you try to run Java 1.4 in IE it will not work.
    So basically, Yahoo chat is not written in Proper Java, and will not
    run on any browser running Java? Only old browsers using either early
    netscape Java or Internet Explorer running the now defunct Virtual
    Machine.
    Wether or not Yahoo actually bother to rewrite the software is another
    matter, of course this means that once everyone in the world has
    updated to Java 1.4 and above (which they have to, cos it's the only
    option, opera and netscape use it, and Internet explorer now doesnt
    even support java properly) Yahoo will simply not work at all....."
    The solution to this is to use Microsoft Virtual Machine for accesing Yahoo chat etc, (if you have a copy cos its hard to find now) and hope that all these people rewrite there software to support java properly.

  • Help!! J2SE 1.4.1 Not working on some Windows computers

    Hello. I am very new to the Java Runtime Environment. Currently I am using version 1.4.1.
    When I run a "JAR" file on some Windows 2000. "javaw.exe" starts, then stops. It gives no visible error message. The program does not appear on the screen. I am having this problem on two different computers running Windows 2000.
    All the "JAR" files work on about a dozen other computers running either Windows 2000, or Windows XP, but for these two computers. The only thing these computers seem to have in common is they both have ATI "All-in-Wonder" Video Capture Cards.
    The Sun Java plug-in for Internet Explorer works fine on both of these computers, but if I double click, or run the programs from the command line with the "javaw.exe -jar filename.jar" command I get the same response. Javaw.exe runs for a very short time, and then exits.
    I have tried to reinstall the runtime on both computers, with no success.
    The primary program I am trying to can be found at: http://dvarchive.sourceforge.net/
    I have tried other JAR files on the ?broken? computers, and none of them seem to work. They all work on other computers with the same runtime installed.
    I know this is not a lot of information to go on, and I would be willing to take any advice on how to get more debugging information.
    Any advice would be greatly appreciated,
    John Vincent

  • Enforcing JRE version for Applet does not work - 1.4.2

    Hi,
    Our application (Applet) requires JRE 1.4.2 .
    I believe I need to use STATIC VERSIONING as we want the client desktop to ONLY use 1.4.2 for our applet.
    So I followed the instructions mentioned in
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/using_tags.html#in-ie
    and
    http://java.sun.com/products/plugin/versions.html
    But for some reason the JAVA Installer fails to install the package.
    It comes back with this pop-up error message:
    Error - Java(TM) Installer

  • Java Safari Not Working

    Hi all, I am running 10.4.11 with the new safari but now I believe my java is not working right anymore. I am getting the mug with arrows and no response when I try to upload photos onto places like facebook and costco. I have gone through the software update but it says I am all up to date. As well, I need to access the following site:
    http://www.cra-arc.gc.ca/esrvc-srvce/tx/ndvdls/myccnt/menu-eng.html
    and the following comes up...
    "Java applet unable to load"
    then..
    +On Macintosh Operating Systems:+
    +Mac OS X version 10.4.+
    +Browsers Supported:+
    +Safari 2.0.4 (Webkit 419.3 or higher).+
    +Apple JVM 1.4.2_07 to 1.4.2_16;+
    +Apple JVM 1.5.0_05 or higher.+
    +Safari 3.0.4 (Webkit 523.12 or higher).+
    +Apple JVM 1.4.2_07 to 1.4.2_16;+
    +Apple JVM 1.5.0_05 or higher.+
    Any help?

    Commiserating with you Seanifer - I cannot get Java-based Webinars (Citrix) to load either. As a test of a theory, I tried to load the same webinars in Firefox. It too didn't load - I suspect it's an issue specifically with Java and not necessarily with Safari.
    I too have all software updated - I'm running in Leopard v10.5.6, running Safari v3.2.1 and Java Web Start 12.2.0. Firefox v3.0.6
    We might want to begin with temporarily removing the plist for Java. Do you know how to do this (I do - I'm asking so as to know how detailed my assistance should be for you).
    I have the following Java components loading in this order:
    Java applet versions
    J2SE 5.0 32bit
    Java SE 6 64-bit
    J2SE 5.0 64bit
    J2SE 1.4.2 32-bit
    Java application versions
    J2SE 5.0 32bit
    Java SE 6 64-bit
    J2SE 5.0 64bit
    J2SE 1.4.2 32-bit
    I believe these are the "default" settings as seen in my Java Preferences panel.
    Rolling-up my sleeves on this one! Stay tuned.

  • Java apps not working right

    I lately have found problems with Java apps not working correctly. For example, in Yahoo Widgets I cannot get any widget preferences to display; in Apple's Java Preferences for J2SE 5.0 the preference window opens but is blank; and in JBidwatcher the buttons are missing in main and preference windows.
    When I log in as another user I find all those apps work properly, so it seems to be something wrong within my User folder. I tried reinstalling the Java J2SE50ReIease4 but it didn't help. Is there something I can delete and/or reinstall to fix this problem?

    Ditto here,
    I made the mistake of thinking I could throw away the preferences in the Java folder and new pref's would automatically replace the missing pref's, much to my surprise no such thing happened. My settup is the same as yours, except my OS is 10.4.8.
    Someone please help.
    Thanks,

  • {@inheritDoc} not working for Java Classes

    Hello,
    i am using {@inheritDoc} for inherting super class's JavaDoc for a perticular function..
    It is working, if super class is my own class. i am able to see all JavaDoc in child class.
    But when i use {@inheritDoc} for extending JavaDoc of java class it is not working.
    i.e. if i am writing {@inheritDoc} in public void actionPerformed(ActionEvent e) method..
    It wont show any javadoc..
    How to add it? Do i need to give source of java classes too???
    And if it is Yes, then where to specifiy. and where to find source of Java classes, do they come with JDK? or NetBeans?? (If yes then where it is in JDK or Netbeans???)
    Thanks,
    Nachiket.

    Yes, you need to have the Java source, with the -sourcepath option, as described here:
    Inheriting Comments from J2SE - Your code can also automatically inherit comments from interfaces and classes in the J2SE. You can do this by unzipping the src.zip file that ships with the SDK (it does not contain all source files, however), and add its path to -sourcepath. When javadoc runs on your code, it will load the doc comments from those source files as needed. For example, if a class in your code implements java.lang.Comparable, the compareTo(Object) method you implement will inherit the doc comment from java.lang.Comparable.
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/javadoc/faq/#incrementalbuild
    If you want the full Java source get it from here:
    http://www.sun.com/software/communitysource/j2se/java2/index.xml

  • Java update not working

    Java is not working. Already tried downloading Java 7 update. Java (Oracle) cannot verify that I have Java installed. Java does not show up in system prefrences even after download success screen, and shutting down all apps and computer. I checked console - var/log - install.log  Displaying 'Install Succeeded'
    Please help!
    Thanks!

    Simple drag-and-drop does not normally involve Java at all. How is the external HD formatted?
    The final Java update for Leopard was:
    Update 10, 29 June 2011 - This release updates J2SE 5.0 to 1.5.0_30, and updates Java SE 6 to 1.6.0_26. J2SE 1.4.2 is no longer being updated to fix bugs or security issues and remains disabled by default in this update. Support for out-of-process Java applets on Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard has been removed with this update.
    This release is only for Mac OS X 10.5.8 or later versions of Mac OS X 10.5. http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1359
    and for Snow Leopard:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1360
    Note: Java 1.6 for Leopard is 64 bit only, but for Snow Leopard it is available for both 32 and 64 bit.
    http://www.roguish.com/blog/?p=266
    Since August 2012 updates for Java (and especially Java Runtime Environment, which is what you actually need) must now be downloaded direct from Oracle:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/downloads/jre7-downloads-1637588.h tml
    Further information here:
    http://www.oracle.com/us/corporate/press/1735645
    and their FAQ’s:
    http://docs.oracle.com/javase/7/docs/technotes/guides/jweb/mac-faq.html
    However, if you need the Jave 6 JRE and plug-in, MadMAC0 has posted at
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/20107182?ac_cid=tw123456#20107182
    Apple has also posted (Oct 22/12) the approved solution for restoring the Java 6 plug-in:
    Java for OS X 2012-006: How to re-enable the Apple-provided Java SE 6 applet plug-in and Web Start functionality.

  • {@link Object#clone()} , -link does not work!!

    I have a problem with this!!
    Somehow the -link option does not work very well.
    I have ensured that I did correctly set my command option -link to
    -link http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api
    I have already imported java.lang.Object at the top of my source code.
    When I tried to use {@link Object#clone()}, it doesnt work at all.
    I have also tried all sorts of names like fully qualified ones and such.
    The hyperlinks do not appear ( i.e. they just appear as plain text but not hyperlinks!!) I realise the ONLY way I can get it to point to the correct link is
    {@link <a href = "http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.1/docs/api/java/lang/Object.html#clone()">clone()</a>}
    which is very lame.
    I want to be able to write doc @tags such that I do not have to specify the full complete http address.
    Anyone can help ? Thank you very much!!
    P/S: I know this is a bug in 1.2.2 javadoc but I suppose this bug would have been fixed by now....
    Regards
    David

    I would upgrade to 1.4.2. That should fix the problem.

    The currently supported versions with patches installed are as follows:
    <li>10.1.2.3 (10.1.2.0.2 + patch 5983622)
    <li>11.1.1.4 (11.1.1.2 or 11.1.1.3 + patch 11060983 : this also requires WLS 10.3.4)
    Fusion Middleware (FMw) 11 downloads are available from here:
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/weblogic/downloads/index.html
    Patches are only available to customers with access to MyOracleSupport (http://support.oracle.com)
    For Forms/Reports users, look for the FMw download titled "Portal, Forms, Reports and Discoverer". The distribution includes all that is necessary to design and deploy your applications. Note that WebLogic Server is also required and is a separate download (from the same page). Be sure to carefully review the installation instructions before attempting the process. It may also be helpful to review MyOracleSupport note 1073776.1.

  • JRE System-level settings does not work - JRE1.6.30

    Good day,
    I need to set deployment.security.mixcode parameter to "DISABLE" within of deployment.properties configuration file.
    Also I wish to place the deployment.properties configuration file is not user-specific path. The default location is
    <User Application Data Folder>\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties.
    TO change the default location I read about possibility to use the deployment.config for specifying the System-Level
    deployment.properties in the infrastructure.
    Unfortunatelly seems does not work. Someone have got experience about system level settings of deployment.properties?
    This is the configuration I have used.

    file\:C:/Program Files/Java/jre6/lib/deployment.propertiesI believe that the file is interpreted as a properties file, which means the colon and slashes need to be escaped. This would be it if you want to use a proper Windows path:
    file\:C:\\Program Files\\Java\\jre6\\lib\\deployment.properties

    An error like
    netx: Unexpected net.sourceforge.jnlp.ParseException: Invalid XML document syntax. at net.sourceforge.jnlp.Parser.getRootNode(Parser.java:1203)
    indicates that the JNLP file is not valid XML. The error happens because netx uses an XML parser to parse the JNLP file. Other JNLP client implementations may use more lenient parsers and may or may not work with the given JNLP file. Errors caused by malformed JNLP files can often lead to subtle bugs, so it is probably best to fix the JNLP file itself. A tool like xmlproc_parse might be able to pinpoint the error.

    The console starts and all is well with the world.
    This is obviously not how one would want to start a console by downloading the .jnlp file and running it on the command line so I am now going to remove the /home/gordon/.icedtea/cache/http/* and see what happens.
    First, let me say that nothing happened. It did not work. I did confirm that it creates the directory structure again /home/gordon/.icedtea/cache/http/192.168.4.16/ovm/rasproxy/ but there is only one file in the directory.
    [gordon@ufo rasproxy]$ cat ovm_rasproxy-ws.jnlp.info

    If I save that ovm_rasproxy-ws.jnlp file instead of opening it and copy it to the /home/gordon/.icedtea/cache/http/192.168.4.16/ovm/rasproxy/ directory the console will now start successfully with one minor drawback - it will only launch that one VM based on the .jnlp file that I downloaded.

  • Making the Tab key not work in the JTextArea

    In my view I have a JTextArea along with a bunch of JTextFields and JComboBoxes. The user is usually going to tab out of a field in order to go to the next field. What's happening is when the user tries to tab out of the JTextArea, the cursor just moves by a tab length within the JTextArea instead of going to the next field. And if the JextArea has some text in it and if the user tabs into the JTextArea, the whole text gets selected and on hitting the next tab, it gets wiped out.
    I am trying to make the JTextArea not respond to the tab by writing the following code. Keymap keyMap = JTextComponent.getKeymap(JTextComponent.DEFAULT_KEYMAP);
    KeyStroke tabKey = KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_TAB, 0, false);
    keyMap.removeKeyStrokeBinding(tabKey);
    jTextArea1.setKeymap(keyMap);But it's still not working. Can anybody tell what's wrong with that code. Or is there any other way to do it? Any help/hints appreciated.
    Thanks.

    If you're using jdk1.4, those other solutions won't
    work because the focus subsystem has changed radically
    (see
    http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4/docs/api/java/awt/doc-file
    /FocusSpec.html). The upshot is that you have to
    specifically register the keystrokes that you want to
    use for focus traversal. In your case, you have to
    re-register the Tab and Shift-Tab keys, and
    they don't seem to have provided a simple way to do
    that. Here's what I come up with:Set forwardTraversalKeys = new TreeSet();
    forwardTraversalKeys.add(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(
    KeyEvent.VK_TAB));
    forwardTraversalKeys.add(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(
    KeyEvent.VK_TAB, InputEvent.CTRL_MASK));
    textArea.setFocusTraversalKeys(
    KeyboardFocusManager.FORWARD_TRAVERSAL_KEYS,
    forwardTraversalKeys);
    Set backwardTraversalKeys = new TreeSet();
    backwardTraversalKeys.add(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(
    KeyEvent.VK_TAB, InputEvent.SHIFT_MASK));
    backwardTraversalKeys.add(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(
    KeyEvent.VK_TAB, InputEvent.SHIFT_MASK |
    K | InputEvent.CTRL_MASK));
    textArea.setFocusTraversalKeys(
    KeyboardFocusManager.BACKWARD_TRAVERSAL_KEYS,
    backwardTraversalKeys);Or, you can just press CTRL+TAB instead of TAB when
    you get to the JTextArea :).=====================================
    i used the above thing but i am getting exceptions classcast exception n method not found (forwardTraversalKeys.add(KeyStroke.getKeyStroke(KeyEvent.VK_TAB));)keystroke.get keyStroke(int)???? where i am going wrong as it will be quite helpful for me am using jdk1.4.1_02
