You'd likely be safe to remove updates 5, 6, 7 and 9.
Chances are you can delete J2SE 5, seeing as how you have J2SE 6, but your browser may not be configured for J2SE 6. (First, ensure that your browser IS set to J2SE6 and you're likelys afe to delete J2SE5 and all of its updates.) Note that I said likely. I can't possibly come up with every scenario...

  • J2SE Runtime update problem (win32/Firefox)

I am installing the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 6 for Firefox 1.0.6 and am getting the error:
Error 1335. The cabinet file `jc150000[1].cab` required for this installation is corrupt and cannot be used. This could indicate a network error, an error reading from the CD-ROM, or a problem with this package.
The update is being downloaded live and yes I quit Firefox before proceeding.
My OS is Windows 98 SE.
When I click "Retry" it just gives the same error again.
    Thanks,

  • Can I delete J2Se Runtime 5.0 old updates?

I went to Add/Remove Programs and I have these programs installed:
    J2SE Runtime 2.0 Update 10
    J2SE Runtime 2.0 Update 11
    J2SE Runtime 2.0 Update 2
    J2SE Runtime 2.0 Update 4
    J2SE Runtime 2.0 Update 6
    J2SE Runtime 2.0 Update 9
Each one is about 130mb. Can I uninstall 2,4,6,9,10 and just leave the newest one, update 11, without rendering Java useless on my PC?

If there are no errors, yes. However, the safest process is to uninstall all of them in the reverse order of install, then do a new install of what you want.
And note that the most recent Java version is Java 6 (aka 1.6) - though that version is not yet the default version for java.com's JRE download and install.

Updates for J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 ? Can old updates be REMOVED
    Aug 27, 2006 3:56 PM
i'm on XP Home SP2 and trying to clean up my computer. I recently installed Internet Explorer 7 Beta. Subsequently i received an error message that lead me to download something from the Java website. I'm not sure it was really necessary but i guess i'll keep it.
Browsing through Add/Remove Programs i see two Java programs identical except one is version 6 the other is version 8. Both are 119MB. Can i remove/delete version 6 or do all the updates need to remain installed on my computer?
    Thank you,

  • Java SE Runtime Env -vs- J2SE Runtime Env -vs- Java 6 update 11

I'm brand new to Java, must have the Java Runtime Environment installed, but do not understand if some are newer versions of the same thing or separate programs entirely.
    I currently have installed:
    J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 Update 11
    Java 6 Update 11
    Java 6 Update 5
    Java 6 Update 7
Java SE Runtime Environment 6 Update 1
Is there Java for programming and the JRE for running programs? What's the latest version of these things? What does SE stand for? What is J2SE?
Where oh where can I get this sorted out online?
    Thanks very much!

I too am struggling with the new updates to Java 6. crashes, lagging and unstable webpages. I have submitted one of the numerous bug reports and hope that helps but in the mean time updated to 11 from 10 that was probably stupid because 10 gave me the problem

  • J2SE Runtime Environment Updates

Is it okay to remove all of the updates that occurred before the latest release? I have updates through 5, and want to uninstall the first 4.

Thanks. I also have a question about two other packages. I have the Java 2 SDK , SE 1.4.2_06, and the Java 2 Runtime Environment SE 1.4.2_06. I should leave the SDK alone, but uninstall the Java 2 Runtime Environment SE 1.4.2_06? These are in addition to the J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0, Update 7. Since I develop programs, I suppose I should leave the SDK untouched.
EDIT: Oh, I forgot, I have a fourth package (J2SE Development KIt 5.0 Update 5)

  • J2SE Runtime Environment - can I delete old versions?

Hello - I know nothing about JAVA so this may be a silly question. My computer has been running very slowly lately, and I noticed I have 3 J2SE Runtime Environment 5.0 updates - update 6, 9, and 10. Can you tell me if I can delete the older updates? They're huge files, and I'd like to delete them to free up space if it's advisable.
    Thank you.

Shouldn't, I repeat shouldn't, not won't, be a problem, but that won't help with your "running very slowly" problem.

  • 10 runtime updates

I have about 10 updates showing in my install programs window, using around 1 gig of hardrive space. Is this really necessary? Can I delete some of these since they are taking up so much space?

Wouldn't it be better to have one installed version rather than several? I recieved an update to java today, making my total installed updates 11.

Can someone tell me how to use my own keystore for SSL auth, trust and
    signature trust that WILL work.
Setting the system property in an applet won't auth and or trust SSL:
    System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStore", "file:/C:/temp/SSL_applet/client.com");
    System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStorePassword", "storepass");
    System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.keyStoreType","JKS");

    System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStorePassword", "storepass");
System.setProperty("javax.net.ssl.trustStoreType","JKS");Ends up with a trace telling me cacerts wil be opened, client.com is never used.
    C:\Documents and Settings\UserName\Application Data\Sun\Java\Deployment\security\trusted.jssecerts
    Googling for the combination of
    site:sun.com "deployment.system.security.trusted.certs" password
will give me no results. Searching the entire web won't do much either.
Anyway, assuming the password is changit will end up with an unpleasent
surprise after installing a new version jre.
Because SUN actually changed it in 1.5
Anything short of the programmer loading a keystore when an applet is run
    will not work.
This is not good enough, is there a way for administrators to use their own
keystore and give it a password so a jre update won't screw up everything?

  • Adobe AIR runtime update dialog breaks application

I'm working on a large project that utilizes a C++ application to house the core logic and an AIR application to display a UI. The C++ program launches the AIR UI and passes it several command line parameters, including locale and port number to call back to the C++ application with.  Under normal circumstances, this works great.
However, when there's an Adobe AIR runtime update, things go bad.  The runtime intercepts the UI invocation, kills it, and displays the generic AIR "do you want to update?" dialog.  Whether the user presses update or cancel, the UI application eventually gets relaunched -- but without the command line parameters originally passed to it!  I presume this is a bug in the Adobe AIR runtime updater code.
The end result of this is that the UI gets relaunched, but doesn't know how to localize itself or what port to call back to the C++ application with!  If the user relaunches, it works fine (because the update dialog won't intercept again), but by then the user experience has already been mangled.  We can't even display a localized error message to tell them to relaunch because we don't know what locale they're using any more, and we can't call back to the C++ application to ask.
I'm trying to find solutions/workarounds to this issue.  Because AIR won't let us turn off the update check on a per-application basis, it seems like the only viable solution would be to turn off the runtime update check for the whole machine.  But altering machines settings for the benefit of one application is definitely bad form, and I'd prefer not to do that if any other viable workaround exist.
    Any ideas?

I filed a bug report last night using that same form.
The duplication steps are straightforward.  I can duplicate the following with 100% success on a freshly imaged Win 7 32-bit box, admin user account:
    1) Install older version of Adobe AIR framework (I tried both 1.1 and 1.5.1).  It will ask you to update.  Click "Update later".
    2) Pull up task manager and watch the process list
    3) Run ANY Adobe AIR app with some parameters (I used Adobe's Settings Manager as a sample because it's small)
    4) Note that your application appears in the task manager briefly
    5) Your app is terminated and "Adobe Air Installer.exe" appears in the task manager.  A dialog pops up asking you to update.
    6) Click cancel
    7) Your app is reinvoked without any parameters
As for my specific case, by "session" I do mean a single launch.
I'm not aware of an evoke event -- perhaps you meant invoke event?  The invoke event is not executing before the app terminates (in step 5 above).  I think the AIR app is just running long enough to load the runtime and then the runtime takes over from there.
    Thanks...

    Hello,
I've a problem with air runtime update.
My badger send a variable in my air software with "applauncharg" or "appinstallarg", everything works.
But when  i load my air software with the badger and that an air runtime update is available, when the update is completed, no variable is sent in my application.
Is it possible to send a variable from badger to my air software in this case ?

  • Install Air Runtime Update without Prompt

    Hi
Do you know if is it possible a silent update of a new version of Air Framework?
I developed an application with silent auto update enabled but if there is a new version of the runtime the update manager asks to the user if he wants to install the update.
I found in the adobe website the Air Settings Manager application but it only allow you to disable / enable the adobe air runtime.
    Can someone help me please?
    Thank you
    Carlo

Unfortunately, the Runtime updater is never silent.  If this is important to you, I'd suggest adding a new feature request on it over at bugbase.adobe.com.  You might also want to look into some of the new installation features included with AIR 3.

  • Controlling AIR runtime updates

    Hi,
I'm writing an AIR app for a client who is concerned about the AIR runtime updates. He foresees problems with his users being taken aback by the sudden appearance of multiple dialogs related to software that they (the users) have never heard of.
I've thought of several options, given that his regard for his users is not going to change any time soon. I have no idea which of these is feasible and I hope to get some pointers here.
    1. Silent updates
    2. Providing a custom UI for AIR runtime updates
    3. Distributing AIR with the app so that it is version-locked and never attempts to update itself
    4. Install AIR normally, but provide some flag with the app that tells AIR not to update itself
    5. A clever, elegant solution
This aspect may make or break the project, so my full (!) gratitude is guaranteed to whoever helps out.

    Hi,
To disable check and updates of the AIR runtime, you just have to put a empty file named "updateDisabled" into your "C:\Documents and Settings\*YOUR_WINDOWS_ID*\Application Data\Adobe\AIR" directory for windows and I think /Users/*YOUR_USER_ID*/Application Support/Adobe/AIR for MacOSx.
