J3680 All in One says no scan options for Windows 8.1. Used Photo Smart on Windows Vista.

Prints, not scans with my 8.1.  Both HP products. Could I download Photo Smart?  Guy w/exact same printer had same problem & got no reply.  Any free HP info?  Can I take screen shot of photo and transfer to file?

Hi @ahpaige,
I see by your post that you are able to print but not scan on Windows 8.1. I can help you with this.
Did you download and install the Full Feature Software?
HP Officejet J3680 All-in-One Printer Drivers.
The classic Windows driver is probably installed, which provides basic functionality.
Download and run the Print and Scan Doctor. It will diagnose the issue and might automatically resolve it. Find and fix common printer problems using HP diagnostic tools for Windows?
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
Have a nice day!

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One - terrible print & scan options

I just purchased an HP Officejet Pro 8600 Plus e-All-in-One an the print options look like they were written by someone from the 1990s.  There are no options for lower resolution - only draft, normal, best and no option for black and white - other than grayscale.  The print options box is the default box that was originally develped in the 1990s - no kidding.  I also tried scanning some items and the box to see the scan is about 5" x 5" and there is absolutely no way possible to see what was scanned.  I originally loaded the software using the disk provided witih the printer, but then I went on line and downloaded the "Full" version - which loaded exactly what was on the disk.  I can not believe HP is even selling this thing with these types of drivers.  I loaded the drivers onto my HP Desktop, running Windows 7 home, 64 bit and my HP laptop running Windows 7 Ultimate, 64 bit.  Both HP computers are Intel I7 Quad core computers w/ 9 & 12 Gb of RAM respectively.
What gives?  Do I need to return this thing because it certainly does not work properly and is not up to the HP standard we expect - especially for the $300 it costs to buy the thing.  I bought this all in one because HP refuses to update the drivers of my older HP scanner to support Windows 7.  That scanner showed the preview with a full screen, allowed me to change resolutions of scans, colors, etc.
Has anyone else experienced this type of garbage?

I agree the HP customer services and product services suck. I have an Officejet Pro 8500 and consistently had problems.
I think I'll change to a Cannon printer or another company. It is apparent that HP does not care.

    Hi,
Is the printer connected to your PC by USB or network?
By using USB connection, you may scan using the Windows Fax and Scan software integrated into your OS.
Scanning through a network connection unfortunately supported on Windows7 32 bit only, as you  may find listed within the About network scanning section below:

  • I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud

I have created PDF from hardcopy by using my scanner. After I run OCR option for my PDF by using Acrobat Pro 9. But "Text-to-speech" functionality of the PDF says that an error message comes up that says the page is empty when I turns on the read out loud option in Acrobat. Kindly help me to sortout this problems?

So I tried generating the same PDFs on two other computers that have Acrobat 9 Pro.  Results were reproduced.  The verdict is:
    - complex PDF files (that is, containing cross-references, tables of contents, and bookmarks) generated by Acrobat 9.x Pro are roughly 2-5x larger than the identical file generated with Acrobat 8.x Pro.
    - different PDF conversion settings make a negligable difference (less than 10% rather than 70-80%).
    - using the "Reduce File Size" or "Optimize PDF" option cuts the file size roughly in half, almost always resulting in a "image downsampling mask" warning message, which requires acknowledgement (that is a problem for batch processing or automation).
    - adding an Acrobat watermark to the file cuts the file size roughly in half.
    - just using Save As to another filename has no effect on file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 with links but no PDF bookmarks still results in the inflated file size.
    - generating the PDF in Acrobat 9 without any links or bookmarks results in approximately the same file size as the Acrobat 8 PDF with full links and bookmarks.
It appears that Acrobat 9's manner of adding links is what's bloating  the files, and in my case it's probably not related to images or image resolution/print quality.  It's a shame, because Acrobat 9 seems to have made some  improvements to the Review Tracker interface, and a few other bells and  whistles which I haven't really gotten around to exporing yet.  But  unless I find a way to keep my links and the PDF file sizes comparable to what I was  getting with Acrobat 8 Pro, it looks like I'm going to stay with Acrobat 8.

Try scanning from your Mac.  Use Image Capture app in your Applications folder.
Click once on the scanner on the left side, then click on Show Details along the bottom.  Along the right side you will see LOTS of options for scanning and saving.

  • Photosmart 3210 All in One - can't scan

I have uninstalled and reinstalled my Photosmart 3210 All in One printer a few times in the last month and a half.  It hasn't solved not being able to scan.  I have to use Microsoft Paint to do that.  It keeps telling me the Digital Imaging monitor has been deleted or moved.  It also can't find HP Twain Scan.  I need help.  the process listed earlier did not work.  When I right clicked on HP Digital Imaging Monitor and Run as administrator, it said it was no longer in that location.

    Hi  ruthmarq,
I have done some research and I have located a document that deals with when Scanning Stops at the Preview Screen when the Printer is Connected to the Windows Computer with a US....  This document also has the link to the HP Print and Scan Doctor.
If the troubleshooting does not help resolve your issue, I would then suggest calling HP's Technical Support to see about further options for you. If you are calling within North America, the number is 1-800-474-6836 and for all other regions, click here: click here.

  • HP Printer Assistant (3510e All-In-One) Display No Maintenance Option

    Hello.
I have a problem with my HP printer (a little over a year old  - expected to work well)
Desktop PC:   HP Pavillion HPE310t 64-bit (OS: Windows 7 Professional)
Printer:            HP 3510e All-In-One (Wirelessly Connected & Confirmed by the "Green -Colored Check Mark")
    Problem:
Expected: HP Printer Icon which, upon being clicked on it, displays a message "Retrieving information from the device" before displaying the HP printer assistant where it displays eight options including "maintain your printer".
Current Condition: only displays "Printer Setup & Software" which is part of the printer setup process.  Because of this, there is no way to access the maintenance option as I am in need now.
Yes, I tried to reinstall the printer software, after completely removing all the existing files, using the software CD that came with the printer - no avail.  Repeated the process twice to see the same result.
What is the problem and how can it be fixed?
I would greatly appreciate to have your help.

    Hi,
The default scan workflow configured to scan documents as Black and White. Make sure to change the scan settings to scan documents with color:
    1. Open the HP Utility and select your device.
    2. From Scan Settings open the "Scan to Computer".
    3. Click the Scan Tasks tab.
    4. Select the affected shortcut and click on Edit... (or just double-click the shortcut).
    5. In the section of Scan from an HP Device click on the blue triangle or the Show Details button to enlarge the menu.
    6. From the enlarged menu now open the drop-down menu next to Mode
    7. Now select the Color option and then click on OK to save the changes. The next scanned document using this workflow will appear in color.

  • HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a: Scan & Copy in color results in full cyan page

Product Name: HP Officejet Pro 8600 e-All-in-One Printer - N911a
    OS: Windows 8.1 64 bit
I noticed the problem: After I scanned a medical card that was 80% cyan.
Problem: The problem persists when scanning/copying using the ADF or using the scanner glass bed.
Only occurs during color scanning or copying.  I can print a file from my laptop or home pc with no issues, as long as the color file did NOT come from my printer.
If I had scanned the small O'Riley's note in black & white there would have been no streaking.
I have reset, used the HPP Dr., cleaned the glass, etc, & followed Solutions 1 - 3 http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?cc=us&dlc=en&docname=c02881567&lc=en&product=4323659&tmp...

    Hi @Veritasabt,
I see that you are having issues scanning and copying in color from the glass and the ADF. Thank you for providing the screen shot. I can help you out today.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Update the printer's firmware. HP Officejet Pro 8600 N911a Firmware.
Try scanning again to see if you have the same results.

  • HP5510 All-In-One won't scan entire page image

Is there a setting or something that I'm missing when it comes to scanning with my 5510 All-In-One? I'm scanning to my MacBook using OS X.  And yes,  I'm placing my document in the appropriate corner, but I'm only getting a small portion of the 8 1/2x11 page instead of the entire page.  I turn it every possible direction and it's still not scanning the entire page.  Suggestions?

    Hi @bonbon2D,
I see by your post that you are unable to scan the full image on the Mac. I can help you with this.
I have provided a document for how to scan and change the scan settings.
    Scan.
Check the driver name that is installed for the printer. The Airprint driver might be installed instead of the Printer's driver. (usually defaults to Airprint)
Click the Apple menu and then click System Preferences. Click Printers & Scanners, highlight the printer name on the left side and on the right side of the screen should show the name.
If the printer name shows Airprint, then that is the Apple drivers. Delete it and add the printer name back in from the list. Click the - sign to delete the driver and then click the + sign to add the driver, might have to click the drop down to select the printer's name to add it in.
What operating system are you using? Mac OS X: How Do I Find Which Mac OS X Version Is on My Computer?
What application are you trying to scan with?
How is the printer connected? (USB/Ethernet/Wireless)
If you need further assistance, just let me know.
