J4W 9.1.0 stability and Windows 8 support

We are running current release of J4W client on XP Pro SP3 and Win 7 SP1 PCs.  Our Help Desk has been getting several complaints of the J4W client crashing frequently.  Will be likely opening a TAC case but I'd thought I post in this forum to see if others are having similar issues -- known bug(s) or know what a fix may be.
PC's we order are coming in with Win 8 installed ... looked at the 9.1 docs and noted that Win 8 is not listed as officially supported OS.  Of course, we have installed J4W 9.1 on Win 8 Enterpise x64 PC and we have been experiencing J4W app crashes -- but do not know if it is because of Win 8 or the same issues as our XP / 7 users in the company.  I asked a TAC engineer and he did not know when Win 8 would be officially supported, but he believed it would not be until 2013.  Anyone have any information on Win 8 support???
Thx

  • What versions of Linux and WIndows are supported?

I have looked on the web site, and cannot find what versions of Linux and Windows are supported? Most of the documentation just says Linux and/or Windows, with no referenence to version.
My specific questions are for Oracle Personal server:
    Is it supported on
    Windows XP Professional
    Windows XP Home Edition
    Red Hat Linux 7.3
    Red Hat Linux 7.2
    Red Hat Linux 8.0
    Red Hat Linux 9.0
    RHEL 3.0
If yes to all or some, what is the best OS/Version to install the Oracle Personal Server on? Considering performance? Ease of install and use?
    Thanks,
    Tomas

    Joel:
Thanks. But, when I tried to create an acct in metalink section, it said I needed a "support identifier". When I researched this, it seems I can only get a "support indentifier" if I have a valid support contract.
Now, that seems a bit of "the cart before the horse", as I am thinking of buying the Oracle Personal Server, but have not.
And want to know supported platforms before I do buy. But, now it seems I have to buy, to get my pre-sales question answered.
Is there another place I can find this info, possibly a pre-sales area of the oracle web?

  • SAP Conversion Agent for PI 7.1 EHP 1 and Windows 2008 Support

    Hello
I have read that some people were able to run SAP Conversion Agent on a PI 7.1 EHP1 Installation on Windows 2008 Sever. But in the Product Availability Matrix there is no support for 2008 yet.
In the SAP Library (http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nwpi71/helpdata/en/43/fc39c16bfb025ee10000000a1553f7/frameset.htm) under the release notes for SAP Conversion Agent there is still version 8.5, but when I install the actual Support Package I have Conversion Agent 8.6 running and according to information on the informatica.com site this version is running under 2008!
Has anybody clear and actual information about which OS the newest SAP Conversion Agent for PI 7.1 EHP1 supports? Or has anyone experiance on Conversion Agent and Windows 2008 Server?
    Thanks
    Christoph

    Hi Mark
Thanks for your reply! Fact is that in the actual Package (SP06) the version of Conversion Agent Engine supplied is not 8.5.5 as in the SAP Note mentioned, it is version 8.6.0:
    C:\Documents and Settings\pi1adm>CM_console -v
    Engine-Version: 8.6.0(Build:30)
    Engine-Syntaxversion:4.00.10
I will oben a ticket for that ...

  • SCCM 2012, Intune and Windows OS Support

I am just trying to confirm what I believe I am reading about Microsoft OS Support for Windows Intune when integrated with SCCM 2012 R2...
What I believe to be the case:
Windows RT, Windows RT 8.1, Windows 8.1 all have the ability to enroll via OMA-DM, thus can be managed by SCCM.
Down-level OS's such as XP SP3, Vista, and Windows 7 require the Intune Client to be installed, thus can only be managed by a standalone Intune subscription?
    Can anyone confirm this?
    Thanks!

    More or less correct.
Generally, even for Win 8.1 and WinRT, IBCM or DirectAccess are a better choice than OMA-DM as it can only enable management of a limited subset of features. Two important ones cannot be: software updates and endpoint protection.
As you've seen (based on your other thread), you can still use the Intune subscription that is connected to your ConfigMgr site to manage devices with the Intune client installed. Effectively, there are two halves of the Intune subscription, the full client
management half and MDM half which can be controlled by Intune or ConfigMgr. Just because the MDM half is controlled by ConfigMgr does not technically preclude you from still utilizing the full client management half. That's not at all saying you should do
this though, but you certainly could.

  • Arch Linux 32x64 bits, Developers and Window Managers Support

    Greetings!
After having some time issues due to college that prevented me from this, I wish to have again a rolling-release distro in my computer.
I was in the past a big fan of Gentoo, but now it seems too much work to compile everything from scratch. Also they seemed to have some issues with the developers - the original developer if I understood correctly has quit the project, others were forced to quit due to misbehavior, etc. - and maybe due to some other facts their popularity on distrowatch dropped drastically.
Then this year I've tried Debian Testing... My goodness, that was messy. Tons and tons of bugs on XFCE, like thunar hanging on load and displaying error messages, gedit not removing the ~lock files properly on close, so I had the myfile and ~myfile, and many others. Really, I gave up.
I wish to give Arch Linux I try then. Of course that would be quite stupid to ask if arch linux is the best choice in an arch linux forum, but there are some key points that if you could answer would help me a lot to give it a try:
    1. 32x64
"Should I use 32-bit or 64-bit?" is NOT the intended question. Many still prefer 32-bit-pae on a 64-bit capable machine, others prefer 64-bit. I wish to use 64-bit. Made my mind. But I would like to know if the support of 64-bit on Arch Linux is as good as 32-bit and if it comes by default with cross-libs which makes me able to run 32-bit applications natively right out of the box,
    2. Developers
About how many and what's their relation with the users? When I've googled for Arch Linux, I've had found a review video on youtube where some guy said in the comments that developer's mind changed a lot in the past 2 years and they introduced many buggy packages that required manual workaround. At the end of his comments, he said "Sympathy? Apologies for the ****? Nope. blame the user for trusting 'pacman -Syu'" Surely I don't know which are these options because I haven't read about pacman yet (just know it's the default package manager) but you get the idea.
Another key question: Is Arch Linux hiring new developers over the time? Replacing the ones that leaves for the many reasons?
    3. Window Managers Support
With Gnome3's overall rejection (including mine), we have only two options: Switch to KDE or try other Window Managers. I still wish to have faith on gtk, so the first option is still not considered by me. I don't wish to know "which one is the best", because that's another large discussion just as the 32-bit x 64-bit. Just how good is Arch's support (updated constantly? bug-fixes?) on:
    - XFCE
    - MATE
    - Cinnamon
(Of course there are others like LXDE, Enlightenment, etc. but I've decided to narrow down to XFCE even having quite bad experiences on Debian Testing.)
    4. Package Manager
Last, being a rolling-release dist, can I add an option for a specific package to install a specific older version and/or not upgrade when you tell the dist. to upgrade everything? I remember that back on Gentoo I could edit a text file and just type the version of the package I wished to keep and the "update everything" option wouldn't touch the package (worked also to try new versions that were still not stable enough).
Any replies will be very appreciated. Sorry for the long post.
    Best regards.

I'll start at the end with #4.  Of course on the arch forums you will get people who are biased towards liking arch - but I think if you ask in other communities you will regularly hear that arch's package management system is its greatest strength.  Pacman is the primary tool for this, but we also have makepkg for things in the Arch User Repository (AUR), and the Arch Build System (ABS) to recompile anything from the main repos with additional/alternate compilation options.
But for your direct question, there is an option to only upgrade to a particular version of a given package.  There is an option in pacman's configuration file for just this purpose.  However depending on what the package is, this could lead to problems.  Users are discouraged from updating most of their system while keeping some older packages - This can lead to issues with shared dependencies.  Of course if you build the package from source (AUR or ABS) yourself, such issues would be easy to resolve.  Is there a certain package you know you'd want to keep at an older version?  If you tell us what it is, we can give more specific information on how easy/hard it would be to accomplish.
#3: Arch is a DIY distro.  You choose whatever window manager / DE you want.  I can vouche for XFCE working wonderfully in arch.  There are also numerous archers who use mate and cinnamon.  I have heard of some problems, but (AFAIK) these have nothing to do with compatibility with arch, rather these are due to upstream issues.  In other words, cinnamon, mate, xfce, or any other WM should work just as well on arch as on any other distro.  I'd bet our wiki for installing and configuring those WMs are better than those of the distros that bundle the WM with the core install.  (In addition to package management, you will find the arch wiki is second to none).
#2: I can't answer with any specifics - other than to say they continue to do an excellent job.  I am not surprised by the youtube video - not because I'd agree with it, quite the opposite.  But as arch is a DIY distro it puts some responsibility on the user to maintain their own system.  If one is not prepared for nor willing to do this, they often become frustrated and end up blaming someone else.  Often this is the developers, sometimes it is the forum moderators, other times it is the whole arch community.  In every case these accusations are absurd.  Your questions on replacement of developers is a good question though - there is a history page on the wiki which might give some insight on this, but I suspect others will have better input on this.
#1: I use i686 (32bit) on two of my computers and it works perfectly.  It sounds, however, that a majority of the community uses 64bit (which I just updated to on one of my computers).  My 64bit system works perfectly as well, but I don't have any 32bit-only apps.  Occasionally there are forum threads about some issue or another with "multilib" applications which are 32bit programs run in a 64bit system.  Generally these threads seem to be resolved without much hassle.  You can search for some of them yourself: Skype seems to be a common topic of such issues.
All in all, I'd reiterate arch's strengths in it's package management and wiki/documentation.  Potential weaknesses could be found by users who are unwilling or unable to take responsibility for their own system.  I word this is a bit biased manner - there are many people who have no interest in being responsible for maintaining their own system, a majority of all computer users would fall into this category; most of them would be quite unhappy with arch linux.  If you were happy with gentoo in the past and only want to avoid constant recompiling then you probably would be one who could be very happy with arch.
Or an even shorter summary: try it out.  If you don't like it, switch.

I am feeling so ripped off right now. I have wanted a Mac for years and believed the hype about it's stability and I have had more trouble with this Imac 2011 than I have ever had with a pc. It locks up with several software products from APP store. I have already had to have a technician to look at it and really couldn't figure out what the deal was.  I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software. This machine is only 4 weeks old and I am using 37 g on a 1 T hard drive. There is no reason for it to be locking up. Also, when I try to use the help program, it always tells me that I am not connected to the internet even though I have used both the mail program and the browser with no problem just before that. I successfully used the help program on my pc lots of times. I did not need a $2000. plus machine to just get email. I just wanted to unload on somebody that might understand my pain and after checking out this site...I think there is a few of you out there.

I was told that the APP store software should give me no problems but the truth is that it locks up on the software.
The apps downloaded from the Mac App Store are written by third party developers, not Apple. If you have problems  with those apps you need to visit the support area for their websites. Launch the App Store, locate the app name. You should see a support link.
when I try to use the help program, it always tells me that I am not connected to the internet even though I have used both the mail program and the browser with no problem just before that
Go to ~/Library/Preferences. Move the com.apple.helpviewer.plist file from the Preferences folder to the Trash. Restart your Mac, try the Help menu.
If you need help finding that file, hold down the Finder icon in the Dock then click: New Finder Window. From the menu bar top of your screen click: Go > Go to Folder. Type this in exactly as you see it here:   ~/Library/Preferences/com.apple.helpviewer.plist    That will take you right to that file.
(.plist) files stores information about a particular app or in this case, the Help viewer. Often times deleting the .plist file resolves the issue.
It's fine to "unload"... we understand that you expect your iMac to be stable but there are times when things go awry. That's why we have these forums so that you can you get help.

  • Mac and windows together on one computer

is it true that you can use both Mac OS X tiger v10.4 and microsoft windows in one computer, and do i have to buy a certain computer. im looking at either macbook or macbook pro. does it work on those?

Well I found with version 2.5 of parallels I was getting incredible amount of slow downs. I use parallels (and Fusion) for work, so 90% of my time is connected via a VPN connection. I'm not sure what was causing the slow downs but when I selected an explorer window or a IE window, the computer would freeze for about a minute. Additionally I had parallels crash my entire system, that is take out OSX too.
With VMware's Fusion (while still in beta), I'm getting better speed, better stability and none of that lockup/freeze up that I was getting from parallels. I was even using the same installed OS because vmware has a converter utility to create its own VM from a windows environment which I did within parallels so I'm comparing apples to apples, that is Fusion is not on a brand new installation.
I've been reading a lot of stuff on the parallels board about 3.0 which scared me completely away of trying that and I generally don't use the cohesion (or what ever they call it) technology for either VM.
Finally the support issue, parallels has a very bad reputation of not having good support where as VMware does.

  • Creative Suite 6 and Windows XP

Does anyone know yet if Creative Suite 6 is going to support Windows XP, or is it going to be aimed more at Windows 7?
Aside from whatever feature changes there may be in the individual components, I would purchase CS 5.5 instead of 6 if XP is not going to be supported, or if a significant portion of the new elements of CS 6 are only available on later versions of Windows.
    Thanks,
    -Danny.

    Bob,
I cannot answer your question for anyone else but myself, but the reason I would stay with a 10 year old technology is stability and familiarity.
I don’t upgrade my OS or software to have the latest and greatest. I upgrade only when I’m forced to do so either by developers or as my needs require as dictated by client requests. For the most part, my clients want an end result, on time, on budget and don’t particularly care what tools I use to achieve them.
I used Premiere 4.0 until 2001 before I upgraded to PP1. Used PP1 for almost seven years before upgrading to a used CS 2 (license was legally transferred) and only upgraded that to CS 5.5 when Adobe made an offer that was too good to pass up. It remains in the original box unopened.
I use the 32 bit version of XP Pro. I understand that eventually I will be forced into a 64 bit OS. I will start with a new computer when that happens. Until such time, and so long as my old OS and software continue to allow me to be productive, I’ll stay with the old since from a workflow standpoint, P Pro 2 is more than I need right now. Its old technology that runs on my old OS. All is well.

  • For Superior Stability and Responsiveness: Use Spaces for Every App as Much as Possible

Hi. It's great to share this experiement. It's Hard to Crash Mountain Lion OS X with Spaces or even bring out the spinning wheel.
Any OS (it's good to have Windows, OS X and Linux all at the same time, best of all worlds) should probably be stable if each app was on a separate desktop environment or separate account (with the main one logged in, in the background). The permission were repaired (it crashed the last time I tried this with just one Spaces) using Disk Utility in Mountain Lion's Recovery partition.
Testing the overall stability and responsiveness: more than 12 app including Cinebench 12, Winclone, 2 3D Games from App Store (not Crysis or Rage but helps stress things along with Cinebench), all default Mountain Lion apps except Time Machine launched in one windows , Winclone cloning BootCamp a Win8 (upgraded from Win7) for hours, playing two 3D games (shooter Uberstrike and Marble World, fulscreen windowed) from App Store, Carbon Copy Cloner, watching a fullscreen movie on VLC, Activity monitor and iStats to see how the temperatures, CPU, GPU and memory are doing), quicktime playing a catholic chant in a loop- anything to bring the Mac, the whole system to a crawl, spinning wheel of death or to a crash which it didn't. Launching and relaunching app on their on Spaces was responsive even with all the system taxed at almost 100%.
There was around 12 Spaces running at the same time on the iMac i7 with 8GB. It's not the most convenient way to switch between apps (having everying in one Spaces and clicking on it still the best, followed by swithing via Dock), the gestures and mission control significantly made it easier to have so many Spaces and not that much of a burden to manage when you get used to it. It's much better than Windows 8 implementation for a less cluttered environment. The command-tab is good to combine with Mission Control gestures for switching from fullscreen apps.
.All that while running Cinebench 11.5 which taxes the CPU at almost and GPU 100% but surprisingly the fps shooter and Marble Worlds 3D games didn't crawl as I expected.Having an ambient temperature of about 30 Celsius, with full load the CPU temp was at 66, GPU was at 88, fans where surprisingly at CPU and optical disk fans were only at 900+ rpm with hardisk at 1000+ rpm which is the only 'side effect' to having taxing the system like this (I still have Applecare and Time Machine backup for a worry free test) is it confuses the SMC because without load all fans were at 1000+ rpm (I brough it back to normal with a SMC reset). All these for hours and there's still 1GB memory to use out of the 8GB (with 100GB hardisk space).
When I closed all 11 Spaces and brought all the apps to just one desktop, it wasn't as stable nor as responsive like I have experienced before. Marble World when you switch to it, would have artifacts, the game was almost a slide show. If you have lots of clips to copy past from on the Desktop and you have to hide all to see the finder and then Show All, Carbon Cloner would not show up right away and would have that spinning wheel. I quitted all the apps to prevent a crash and to bring temperatures down.
At first the Mountain Lion was almost a regret with some crashes but with Spaces, Misson Control and gestures for Mission Control, It's bring out the value and it just incredibly stable and responsive (Linux have their multiple desktop environment but Apple's implementation makes you see everything like a map almost bringing the convenience of just one desktop with all the apps placed strategically so you can click and switch to it faster). It's a great way to do a lot of things when you need to without worrying about slowing things down to a crawl.
    Thank you for your time.

  • Question about video driver and window manager

    Dear All:
I have been using Arch for a couple of months now and I am absolutely amazed by how top of the line this system is.
Congratulations and thank you to all the developers!
A couple of questions for anybody interested in these topics:
    1) Do people usually use open-source video drivers, or proprietary? What are the advantages/disadvantages of either solution, in terms of stability and performance? (I have an ATI Radeon Mobility graphics card on an IBM T43 laptop).  Also, I use dual-head with an external NEC lcd display using MergedFramebuffer, but I notice that the external monitor is not set completely well.  Looking closely at the black background standard in Openpox, for example, I notice a constant flickering of the pixels.  Can it be because I am not using the proprietary ATI driver?
    2) What is, in your opinion, the fastest and most reliable window manager?  I wonder whether somebody has run objective comparisons.
I fell in love with wmii recently, but managed to crash it twice when I tried to run kmail (perhaps because this application is not wm-independent?).
Also, applications seem to respond the fastest in fvwm on my system!? Isn't wmii supposed to be the fastest, being the lightest?
    Thank you for your help!

  • Problem with Sessions and window.open

    Hi,
    Hi everyone,
    Help Please!!!
I am working with Sevlet session objects and HTML forms and windows. I have an HTML form for the user to supply a username and password. Once the user clicks submit I need to open another browser window that has no toolbar, no location, no status bar, etc. The user should also be able to go back to that login screen and login again and open a 2nd, 3rd, etc. instance of the application. My problem is that each application is being asigned the same sessionId. I believe it is being asigned to the main login window and thus to the other child windows it opens. Is there a way to work around this? Do I need to make the user open another browser window to login? I need to be able to let the user open multiple instances of the application with unique session ids for each.
Any insight is GREATLY appreciated on this topic. Anything you can tell me about sessions (Java), IE, window.open would help greatly!
    THANK YOU IN ADVANCE!!!
    MA

To achieve this, you must introduce another level of
abstraction to the Servlet specifications. When you
work with JSP/Servlets you use mostly the HttpSession
to handle user related tasks, and the aplication
context, for things that are common to all users. But
inside the HttpSession scope, you want to create
containers that have 'smaller' scope and are uniquely
    identified.
A ipothetical scenario :Let's say that you must have
multiple connections to several databases, on each
database user rights beeing diferrent, and you must be
able to track user actions globaly, and eventualy
capture a 'Close Application event' and close all db.
    connections.
    1. when the user first accesses the login frame create
the HttpSession. In the HttpSession object, store a
Hastable (let's call it 'ConnectionTable'). Each
object in the Hashtable must identify uniqely a
database connection. Now, to create unique identifiers
ids, make the keys in the hashtable java.lang.Long
    objects, created using System.getCurrentTimeMillis().
This guaranties there will be no possible confusion.
From each new open window, on each request to the
server, along with the usefull parameters, send the
connection identifier. When proccessing the request,
select the object from the Hastable wich corresponds
    to the ID.
    2. Now, the values in the ConnectionTable, must act as
the containers that I mentioned in the first
paragraph. The simplest way to do this is to have
again a Hashtable derived class to do the job, wich
exploses methods similar to HttpSession: setAttibute (
Object key, Object value) and getAttibute ( Object
key, Object value). This container may use internally
a Hashtable to store object, and explose only the
getAttribute and setAttribute methods for clarity. Any
way, this is a problem of implementation. Let's call
    this class CustomSession.
    Now, a textual activity diagram:
1 user accesses the main page, you start a new
HttpSession; In the HttpSession object, store the
    ConnectionTable object.
    2. the user enters the userID and pwd and adatabase
name, and a new window is opened. Let's supose the
    data entered is valid.
    3. when you process the login data, you create a new
CustomSession object. you put in it whatever you would
put in your HttpSession. You generate a unique
    identifier using System.CurrentTimeMillis(). Put the
CustomSession object in the ConnectionTable, using the
generated id as key. Send the response.
    ..... later on .....
    100. the user asks for a particular action to be
performed - e.g. a row deletion. The page contains a
form with text field where the user introduces the
row number, a submit button and a hidden input with
    the ID.
    101. you process the data. Get the ID from the request
object, get the ConnectionTable from the session, get
the CustomSession using the ID as key, do whatever
your logic was doing, but obtaining the objects from
    the CustomSession instead of HttpSession
    NicNic,
Very slick idea. I think that it could work and it seems that there would be not security issues because the id that you would store on the client side is the Unique Identifier and not the actual Session Id. Do you forsee any security issues for this implementation?

  • How can I make an icon that links to a webpage that works with Mac and Windows??

    Hi!
I burn CDs with my photos and send them to clients.   Besides the photos folder, I would like to include a file (similar to the .webloc files on the Mac Desktop) that can be clicked and it will be linked to my website - it will open up a browser window and go to my website .      Is it posssible to make one of these icons that works with both Macs and Windows machines?  Thanks!

    Now it works!  Thanks, Denico!
The reason I saved to text:   The first time I followed your instructions, it did not work.   I tried to figure out what I did wrong and saw that you wrote to "save as plain text."   I did not know what this means and there was no option available to save a plain text.  So I looked around and saw "save as stationery" and I guessed that maybe that was what you meant.   And after that, it worked!  But the next thing you know, the icons started duplicating themselves.
I guess I had made a different mistake in the beginning and I fixed it without knowing what it is.
    Thanks for clearing that up.
But just one question.  WHY does saving as "stationery" make an icon duplicate itself?

  • Is Verizon going to acknowlege the problems with FIOS and Windows Vista

For months now, I have been reading the numerous problems Fios internet customers are having with Fios internet/Actiontech Router and Windows Vista and there has been no acknowledgement by Verizon of this current major issue.
I have also experienced the exact same issue for months now since I switched to Verizon FIOS internet. Previously I had Comcast HSI using my Windows Vista laptop.  I had their service for over a year and I NEVER has a problem with the Windows Vista globe icon disappearing and loosing internet connection. The Globe always stayed on and never went away and I never lost connection when I had Comcast
I had Verizon FIOS installed last September with my Windows Vista computer and my wireless internet connection started to drop from day 1 and it has been a daily occurrence for over 5 months now.  It has gotten so bad, I have had to hardwire my laptop to to be able to use the internet uninterrupted.
This is what daily scenario is:
When I turn on my laptop(with Windows Vista, I can initially get full internet access(with the globe on and it says "Local and internet). After about 10 minutes or less, the globe switches to "local only" and I can still get  internet access.  After another 5 or so minutes, a large X covers the globe and I lose internet connection entirely. The actiontech router wireless signal is no longer listed as one of the wireless networks.  The only way for me to regain internet access is either to restart my laptop or reboot the actiontech router.
Numeorus posts here, over by DSL forums(Broadband Reports),Microsoft's website and a few othere websites detail this issue.
I am extremely shocked and surprised that Verizon has not tried to fix this issue by working with both the makers of the Actiontech Router as well as Microsoft to find out what the problem is and how to fix it.
I would just like to reiterate I strongly believe this is primarily a FIOS internet issue since I previously had Comcast HSI for over a year with the same Windows Vista laptop and I NEVER had that problem. Also,  I can connect to my neighbors wireless connection(she uses Comcast HSI) and when I do, the globe stay on all the time on my computer and the internet does not lose connection.
I know that there are a couple of Verizon employees here. Please tell the higher ups who handle FIOS internet that this is a major issue that needs to be resolved as soon as possible.
P.S: Please don't tell me to go by my own router because then, I will have to deal with the issues of setting it up to work with Fios TV and the related VOD, widgets, remote DVR compatability issues to deal with. I don't think I can deal with the additional headaches.

FIOS is short for fiber optics.  fiber optics is different technology than DSL.
With that said, if you search the Microsoft databases for vista issues with fiber optics, (CURRENTLY THERE IS ONLY ONE PROVIDER OF FIBER TO THE HOUSE, that being Verizon, so yes you can also search Vista issues with verizon and\or fios) and you will find that Microsoft already acknowledges this issue with their software.  AND they offer you a fix.

  • IPhone 5 iOS 6.1.4 and Windows 7 x64 USB Driver Issues

Been pulling my hair out with this one for the last week or so and haven't had any luck finding anything on the forums or the web regarding a solution short of a full reinstall of Windows 7 which I am not prepared to do at this time; so hoping someone here can shine some light on this for me
I have a iPhone 5 that is updated to iOS 6.1.4 and a recently built Windows 7 64-bit machine. All of my other USB devices function fine (keyboard, mouse, Xbox 360 wireless receiver for Windows, and a Seagate 2TB external USB drive). I've downloaded the most recent version of iTunes, installed successfully and then attempt to plug in my phone to sync. I get the standard Windows *ding* that I've attached a device and 1 of 2 things happens (I haven't been able to determine what causes one reaction to happen versus the other): Windows will successfully install the 'Apple USB Mobile Device Driver' successfully and it will appear under my USB devices in Device Manager. However - iTunes will not recognize the phone and I cannot see it in Windows either. In the 'Devices and Printers' snap-in my iPhone will appear under 'Unspecified Devices' as the 'Apple USB Mobile Device'. The iTunes diagnostics fail to find a connected device so the tests fail. As soon as I unplug the device, the strangest thing happens: Windows will start trying to install a device driver and after a few seconds it will fail stating that the "MTP Device Driver" installation failed because the device was unplugged. iTunes also thrown an error "iTunes cannot connect to this iPhone" throwing error code 0XE8000065 (I've also seen error code 0XE8000085 as well)
After some finagling, I've managed to get Windows to recognize the device under 'Portable Devices' in Device Manager as an "MTP USB Device" using the generic driver. At this point, I've tried updating the driver and manually specifying the Apple USB driver located in the C:\Program Files(x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Drivers which updates successfully but then changes the device to "Apple USB Mobile Device" and moves it under the USB Devices in Device Manager; and Windows nor iTunes can see it even still.
I've tried removing iTunes several times and ensuring that all remnants of the installation are gone (registry and folders on the installation drive) and have disconnected all my USB devices short of the keyboard and mouse and still I get the same results. At this point, I'm afraid that a re-install of Windows is going to be the solution; but it's a drastic one (I have a SSD drive where Windows is installed along with all of my games for faster load times/better performance and do not want to have to redownload\reinstall all of them) and I'm not prepared to undertake it at this time, which is why I'm posting here
I've used a utility called USBDeview that sees my phone is connected - so I know from a functional standpoint that my USB ports are good and working. I also know the cable is good too - my daughter's PC (Windows 7 32-bit with NO iTunes) immediately sees the device when I plug it in, installs the drivers, recognizes it as an iPhone and I can then see/browse it in Windows Explorer like I would normally expect. My work PC (Windows 7 64bit, NO iTunes) sees the device just fine as well. I would immensely appreciate anyone that has seen this issue or has any additional solutions I can try.
It's also worth mentioning that I've never used Kapersky antivirus so the UPPERFILTERS value in the registry that I've seen as a solution on some forums is not present on my machine. I'm using Microsoft Security Essentials as my antivirus (no flaming please lol - it meets my needs and is extremely lightweight, which is why I'm using it on a gaming rig) and it's not indicating any issues. I've also tried running iTunes as an administrator (even though my account is a local admin on the machine) and that does not have any effect either.
If there is anything I left out, please let me know; and I thank you in advance!

Of course not.  Didn't you bother to read the TOU of this forum?  This is a USER TO USER technical support forum.  Apple doesn't post here.
