J6480 LCD Control Panel Display Malfunction

My All-In-One J6480 Officejet is on its last legs.  In 2010, I added a Win 7 based laptop to my wireless home network shared with a Vista based 32 bit OS.  That created some lasting conflicts that still result in not being able to scan from the Win 7 laptop.  I can live with that, but recently the control panel display began to fade out across horizontal bar areas.  Now, the panel is almost completely barren of all display characters.  Messages, options, etc. are all invisible. If anyone has been able to correct a similar situation, please help.

Hi , Welcome to the HP Forums! I understand that the panel is almost completely barren of all display characters, on your HP Officejet J6480. I am happy to help! Please take a look through this guide, The HP Printer Won't Turn On or Respond When the Power Button is Pressed, that deals with power related issues.  Hope this guide helps!

  • HP LaserJet M1120n Multifunction Printer, control panel display

    Hi,
Yesterday here was an electrisity cut. After that all devices worked normally, except the printer. Control panel display of the printer was out of function and control panel buttons  didn't work.
I turned  the printer off and waited some time. After that I tried to restart the printer. I heard that the printer started, but the display didn't work though, even I waited couple of hours . How could I solve this problem and can you help me?
    BR Vesa

    Hi @Vesa57 ,
I see that the display isn't working on the printer since you had a power outage. I will certainly do my best to help you.
Can you still print to the printer?
Make sure there is no damage on the power cord and that it is connected directly to a wall outlet.
The printer shouldn't be exposed to any electric or magnetic field.
Try another power cord, you can use a monitor power cord to test it. Just to rule that out.
I would do a hard reset to see if that will resolve the issue.
Leave the printer on and unplug the power cable from the printer and wall outlet for 30-60 seconds.
Then reconnect the power cable to the printer and wall outlet rather than a surge protector.
This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
Try another wall outlet in another room, on another breaker. Just to make sure that isn't causing the issue.

  • Windows 7 Control Panel Display and Intel Graphics Media Control Panel Constantly

    I have a Nvidia NVS 5200 M running with Intel 4000 and Windows 7 on a Lenovo T430S.
Whenever I load the Control Panel -> Display settings, I can see options just fine, but I click on any of the drop down menus and they appear for a second, then immediately disappear (fast enough that I can't change settings).
There's a similar problem when I look in the Intel Graphics Media Control Panel. It constantly appears to be "loading" - the mouse icon turns into a little blue circle off an on, continuously. Similar thing with the settings, too - they appear and let me change them, but immediately return to the original setting. I can change them if I act SUPER quickly to make the change then click Apply. But 99/100 I'm not fast enough.
All drivers are up to date. I have no idea what to do (reinstall or uninstall this Intel Graphics control panel? How? Or somehow change a setting on my graphics card).
    Please help!

Try uninstalling both drivers, then reinstalling them. Sometimes a clean driver update works better.

    This question was solved.

This was quite a pain to solve, and as my client's printer was out of warranty HP telephone support wanted at least $20 to even try to fix it.
Anyway, I was able to fix it myself by hard resetting the printer:
    1) unplug the power cord
    2) hold buttons '#' and '6' as you plug it back on
    3) while still holding, power on the printer
    4) after a few seconds, it will show semi NVM reset or something like that, and start the factory default setup (pick language, align cartridges, etc.)
You should be able to access printer functions again as usual after that.

  • MSI Clock & Information Tabs In Control Panel\Display do not open

I can't open the MSI Information tab and the MSI Clock tab in Control Panel\Display; keep getting the message that "an error occured while trying to run shell32.dll, control-rundll C:\Windows\system32\desk.cpl, display". Other than this, everything else is working perfectly. Any suggestions?

I would also recommend a 3rd party solution.  On my 845PE with a GEForce3 Ti200 (MS8851), the system will reboot becuase of drivers problems (XP Pro) when accessing advanced page if I use the MSI controls.
Remoing the controls solves the issue.

  • Lcd control panel is burned out on HP 8600

The control panel LCD appears to be ALMOST burned out to the point I can see only a very faded illegible signals.  It is a HP8600 Officejet Pro

    Hi aulddog
I understand the display is only showing faded illegible signals.
I will be happy to assist you with this.
Make sure there is no damage on the power cord and that it is connected directly to a wall outlet. Make sure the printer isn't exposed to an electric or magnetic field. Try another outlet in a different room.
I have provided a document for the display being blank.
If all the troubleshooting has been done and it didn't resolve the issue then I would
recommend to call HP Tech Support to inquire about  a replacement printer if it is still
in warranty or find out about the trade in and trade up program.

Not heard of the App Store then? Not running 10.6.6 or later? If the answer to either question is no then you're stone out of luck. The only place to buy iPhoto 11 without the rest of iLife is on the App Store.

  • My d7260 control panel display is blank (black)

this just happened yesterday after 3 years

My CM2320 MFP did the same thing a few days ago.  It's 20 months old and the display goes black.  It goes black during the start up sequence.  I can still get to the setup screen, etc. but when it's trying to initialize, it goes black and the exclamation point blinks.  I called tech support and he said I had to send it in.  Then he said that would be expensive and it would be expensive to service it locally so I needed to buy a new one!  Really??

  • System control panel malfunctioning after upgrade to windows 7 professional

I have an issue I just bought with my recently purchased Toshiba satellite P755-S5390. I had upgraded to windows 7 professional. Now the the system control panel is malfunctioning and I lost one USB bay. This included the switch to turn on and off wifi. After consulting with my some co-workers I have concluded that it is a hardware issue, but I find myself in a bit of a pickle. I didn't’t create a recovery disk for the laptop's original operating system and one was not provided. Is there any way I can get the system control panel function back to its factory settings so I can turn my wifi switch back on. With out having to purchase a restore disk from Toshiba.

The cheaper and easier thing to do is to consider purchasing the Recovery disks from Toshiba because alternatives can be time consuming and expensive in media.
Most of the newer Toshiba laptops do not include Recovery disks. So Toshiba gives you two options to run the Recovery. One is to create the Recovery disks using the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator program. You'll find the program under Toshiba or Toshiba Utilities in the Program lists. The other way to run the Recovery is to turn on the computer while holding down the '0' (zero) key. This will activate a program in a hidden partition on the hard drive to send the computer back to it's out-of-the-box configuration. You can try this with your current operating system. It will give you a couple different opportunities to back out of running the Recovery before the process begins. The advantage of going back to the out-of-the-box configuration is that the Toshiba Recovery Disk Creator program will be created again and you'll be able to create the Recovery disks as many times as you'd like. The bad news is that running the Recovery software will wipe out EVERYTHING on the computer, including programs, files, pictures and music.
What you can do is back up all of your programs and files and run the Recovery using the hidden hard drive partition. Create the Recovery disks and then restore all of your programs and files again. But this is a lot of work and like I said,it might be cheaper and easier just to buy the disks.

  • 4620 all in one control panel non responsive

4620 all in one printer front control panel buttons non-responsive.  The panel shows information but nothing happens when pushing buttons.  So I can not copy, etc.  I can print from the computer which is directly hooked up.  The wireless light is on even though I don't use it.  I have tried unplugging with no luck.

Hey , Welcome to the HP Support Forums!
I understand that the control panel display on your HP Officejet 4620 e-All-in-One Printer is unresponsive. I would like to assist you today with resolving this issue. There is the chance that either a power issue or Firmware Programming issue is occuring within your product. Therefore, to start troubleshooting I am going to have you perform some standard hardware troubleshooting steps. Please follow the steps below.  Step 1: Check Power: Please plug your printer directly into a wall outlet for power. Power strips and surge protectors may cause your printer to lack power and not respond properly. Once your printer is plugged directly into a wall outlet please power it on. Next, please test the control panel buttons and Copy function to confirm that the issue is resolved. Should the issue persist, please proceed to the next step.    Step 2: Perform a Power Reset: Turn your printer ONWith the printer ON please disconnect the power cable from the rear of your printerLeave the power cable disconnected for 60 secondsAfter 60 seconds plug the power cable back inYour printer should start back up on its ownOnce your printer returns to the Ready state please test the control panel buttons and Copy function to confirm if the issue has been resolved. Should the issue persist please proceed.    Step 3: Update Firmware:  The Firmware is the internal Programming within your printer. Essentially, it is the 'brains' of your printer and controls what your printer does and how your printer does it. If the internal Firmware Programming is corrupted, it may cause performance issues within your printer. Therefore, I would like you to run the latest Firmware Update for your printer. However, before I am able to provide you with the correct Firmware Update to run I do need to know what Operating System you're using on your computer. Once I find out what Operating System you're using I will provide the latest Firmware Update for you to download and 'send' to your printer.   Please respond to this post with the result of your troubleshooting. Should the issue persist, be sure to include your Operating System in your response. I look forward to hearing from you. Good luck!

  • Control Panel LCD Screen is too dark.

Is there a way to brighten the LCD screen on the control panel? Thanks.
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

    Hi @LeftyMike ,
I see that you would like to be able to lighten the LCD screen on the printer. I will do my best to assist you with this issue.
I have checked through the menu structure and wasn't able to find anything for the brightness for the display.
Try tilting the control panel up for viewing, to see if the light shows up.
Touch a button on the display, just to make sure the printer isn't gone into sleep mode.
Make sure the printer is connected directly to a wall outlet. (don't use a power hub or a surge protector) This ensures the printer is receiving full power and may help this situation.
If the issue persists, then I would recommend to call HP Tech Support for further assistance to see what other options are available for you at 800-474-6836. If you live outside the US/Canada Region please click the link below to get the support number for your region. Contact HP Worldwide.
