JAAS provider for Solaris using RBAC

Does Solaris 8 offer a JAAS service provider that uses Solaris 8's RBAC facility?
My hope is to have a security capibility on my Tomcat server that uses Realm to authenticate and authorize using Solaris 8's RBAC facility.

As per your suggestion I removed Persistence Provider as "org.eclipse.persistence.jpa.PersistenceProvider", made it blank in persistence.xml, but still I get the same error saying No Persistence provider for EntityManager, please have a look at other attributes of persistence.xml

URGENT! SEGV-errors when using Oracle C XML Parser for Solaris

I often (not always) got SEGV-error with core dump when I use Oracle Oracle C XML Parser for Solaris. This Error is always got in the call of the the function xmlinit(...) with all params as NULL but the first required for the error code and the second which i assign a macro that evaluates to "US-ASCII". Does anyone knows about this problem?
I am using a very short, wellformed and validated XML document.

How can you manage data usage when cellular data is off, but you are using WiFi where your WiFi provider charges for data use?

I spend quite a few months each year in Canada where I use a Telus Cellular Hub device which is also my WiFi Router. My iPhone 5 has Cellular Data set to "Off" which insures I won't be charged via my Verizon Wireless Service Provider for charges while in Canada. Trouble is Telus, Rogers and all the Canadian Internet Providers charge for all Data going through their Systems. Again, My Cellular Data on the iPhone 5 is turned off, but I use WiFi for such things as checking the Weather, or FaceBook, or searching the Web.
I believe that things may be happening in the background from various Apps that use quite a lot of Data. It could be that iCloud is part of the issue with things being backed up automatically. It also could be that Apps like AP or other News Apps are sending large amounts of Data in the photos associated with their New Stories, etc. I typically turn off the App Store "Updates" such that they don't automatically load. The FaceBook works now posted videos play when you are just scrolling through the News Feed.
I have been trying to fine an article somewhere which focuses on this specific problem but unfortunately many if not most articles are about folks worried about using Cellular Data while in a WiFi environment when their Cellular Data is turned on.
Does anyone know of a fairly comprehensive article about what settings on which Apps might reduce the Data Usage when Cellular Data is turned "Off" but you are going through a Service Provider who charges for all Data Accessed even when you are using WiFi?

Thanks for your comments, it is clear you understand my plight. The trouble is fully understanding what Apps and App Features are transferring data in the background any time you happen to turn WiFi to on (even if you have had it off most of the day or night). Obviously things like Location Services can constantly be sending and receiving data from my iPhone without any action on my part. Also if you have things like photo backup on the iCloud then each time you take a photo you are sending a copy out. All App Updates if set to Automatic also can add up to quite a bit of Data. Reading the News on AP or scrolling through FB News Feed is actually adding up to a lot of Data. There could be other culprits that I am not even thinking of. I don't want to turn Apps like Find My Phone off or turn iCloud off due to loosing the value of such a program entirely. Again thanks for your quick response.

Use Microsoft Online Directory Services as a user authentication provider for our own SharePoint farm?

I've managed to configure my farm so that Microsoft Online Directory Services (Office 365 etc.) can be used for STS authentication, but what I'm actually trying to do is allow user authentication - that is, I'm hoping to be able to use the user's
O365 credentials to authenticate them in my own farm so they can view certain parts of it. If I need to write my own login form or authentication provider or whatever that's fine, as long as the user doesn't need to enter anything when they access my farm
(provided they already have cached O365 credentials in their browser session).
FWIW I actually need to be able to support the possibility that users are coming from multiple O365 tenancies, whereby each site collection will be configured to allow users from a different O365 tenancy (more or less).
If it's not possible to do with my own development farm on a PC, it is possible if the farm is hosted in Azure?

According to your description, my understanding is that you want to use Microsoft Online Directory Services as a user authentication provider for your SharePoint farm.

Using JNDI Provider for Oracle JMS Queue

Hello,
I created a JMS Queue in Oracle 9.2.0.1 and would like
a Java client to receive events from the Queue. I am
not running Oracle9iAS. I have access to WebLogic server

Crystal Reports can't add stored procedure using Oracle Provider for OLE DB

Hello,
I am trying to bind an oracle stored procedure to a crystal report through Visual Studio 2008.
This oracle stored procedure returns a ref cursor.
I am using an oracle 11g database (11.2.0.2.0) .
When I use the Oracle Provider For OLE DB driver to bind the store procedure with the report, I get the following error message:
Description : ORA -06550 Line 1 Column 7
PLS 00306 wrong number of types or arguments to the "Strored Procedure Name"
But When I use the Microsoft OLE DB provider for oracle driver, I can bind the stored procedure to the report successfully .
I cannot use the Microsoft OLE DB provider for oracle driver because it does not support the CLOB data type which I plan on having the stored procedure return once I can get everything working.
I have tried setting PLSQLRSET = 1 IN "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\KEY_OraDb11g_home1\OLEDB", but that does not seem to work either
Any assistance would be greatly Appreciated

Access Oracle from SQL Server using Oracle Provider for OLE DB

- Oracle 10g
- Oracle10g Provider for OLE DB Version 10.1.0.4.0
- Oracle 10g client
Able to create linked server in SQL server to Oracle 10g and display list of tables in Oracle. However, when execute query, it gives
Server: Msg 7320, Level 16, State 2, Line 1
Could not execute query against OLE DB provider 'OraOLEDB.Oracle'.
OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'OraOLEDB.Oracle' ICommandText::Execute returned 0x80040155].
Any idea what is the problem ?

I'm having the same error message...But I'm connecting to a Oracle 8i DB......
I think this has to do with SP4 for SQL....I will test this tonight....

Installing a VB application using Oracle Provider for OLEDB

I have a corporate VB application that uses the Oracle 9i client.
The Oracle Client is on a network disk, so all my clients will not need to install on their client machines.
I am using Wise for Windows Installer to install the application on each client machine.
I need to include on the installation package the "Oracle Provider for OLEDB" files.
How can I do this?

The standard way to use the unmanaged Oracle.DataAccess is to install an Oracle client on any machine that wants to use the application.
It is possible to avoid that installation by including a bunch of DLLs and some other files in the application, but it's far more cumbersome than using the managed client. Cant connect to Ora8.1.6 db using OLEDB provider for Ora8.1.7 cant find 8.1.6 OLEDB

I need to connect to an Oracle 8.1.6 Database using OLEDB. Currently, we have one workstation with an ODBC connection and has an OLEDB Provider for Oracle 8.1.6. I can connect to Oracle using OLEDB on this machine (Winnt4 SP4) and see data from the tables. But I need to connect to the same Oracle DB from another workstation (Winnt4 SP6).
I dowloaded the OLEDB Provider for Oracle8i from the Oracle Website, and on install I observed that this one was for Oracle 8.1.7. I keep getting an error message that it can't resovle the Service Name. I have played with the Net8 Configuration assistant for Oracle8i and the other selection for Oracle8.0 or 7.0. But I keep getting the same error on the NT SP6 machine. I have looked at the tnsnames.ora file on the SP6 machine and the SP4 machine. They are different, and I tried to make the .ora file on the SP6 machine match the .ora file on the SP4 machine but still can't resolve the Service Name. I would be very grateful if someone could help me out - either finding an earlier OLEDB Provider or some configuration trick.

Deal-breakers for real use of Solaris 11 Express

I run Solaris 10 U9 for my home 12TB NAS box - based on Supermicro H8SSL-i2 motherboard (ServerWorks HT1000 Chipset and Dual-port Broadcom BCM5704C) and their 8-port SATA2 PCI-X card (AOC-SAT2-MV8). It's a great (but aging) platform and a rock solid OS with the unbeatable ZFS volume manager/filesystem.
However, despite my willingness to run Solaris 11 Express in this role, I can't because of these deal-breakers:
1) Lack of a full-featured installer that allows me to lay out or preserve existing partitions the way I want. Making /var a separate file system is a must. Ideally, I'd be able to run multiple versions of Solaris on the same box by customizing grub, and use my ZPOOLs on either Solaris 10 or 11 Express while I learn the new OS.
2) Lack of support for the Broadcom BCM5704C dual-port gigabit NIC (and others), which work wonderfully under Solaris 10, but are badly broken under Solaris 11 Express. I know I could disable the on-board Broadcom NICs and go buy an Intel card - but why the need for this? Won't there be a fix for Broadcom NICs?
3) Lack of support for modern, generic, server-class motherboards and PCI-e multi-port SATA/SAS cards. I wonder about the future for Solaris without support for modern, affordable x64 server hardware.
Maybe I'm missing the point and Solaris 11 Express is only intended to be run as a virtual machine under VBox or VMware. But it would sure be nice to be able to run it on my real hardware - even if it is just a small hobbyist rig. Any suggestions?

In Solaris 11, you get a separate /var by default. If you update from Solaris 11 Express to Solaris 11, this transition doesn't happen automatically. If you decide to tackle it on your own, you need to be sure that it is done in a way that beadm, pkg, and other consumers of libbe will handle properly. I would recommend something along the lines of the following. This is untested and may break your system - prove it out somewhere unimportant first.
Do the work in a new boot environment so you reduce the likelihood that you will break things in an unrecoverable way.
# beadm create sepvar
# beadm mount sepvar /mntFigure out the name of the root dataset of the new boot environment, then create a var dataset as a child of that.
# rootds=$(zfs list -H -o name /mnt)
# zfs create -o mountpoint=/var -o canmount=noauto $rootds/varMount this new /var and migrate data
# mkdir /tmp/newvar
# zfs mount -o mountpoint=/tmp/newvar $rootds/var
# cd /mnt/var
# mv $(ls -A) /tmp/newvarUnmount, remount
# umount /tmp/newvar
# beadm unmount sepvar
# beadm mount sepvar /mntAt this point /mnt/var should be a separate dataset than /mnt. The contents of /mnt/var should look just like the contents of /var, aside from transient data that has changed while you were doing this. Assuming that is the case, you should be ready to activate and boot the new boot environment.
# beadm activate sepvar
# beadm unmount sepvar
# init 6

Allow a user access to start and stop a particular service in Solaris 11 using RBAC controls

So, using svcbundle I created a service called "oracle" that starts and shutdown a db. I'm aware of how to grant RBAC access to be a "service operator" to be able to control start/stop ALL services. But I'd like to grant a user access to start and stop JUST this service.
in this document on page 15, it states that it's possible to do this kind of granularity but doesn't explain how to do it step by step.
how does one achieve this?

You need to add a property group such as

I'm trying to use an HTTPService as a data provider for an
mx:ComboBox. Here's how I have my HTTPService configured:

local machine. I have a list of states in a table in my database,

Use JCE Provider for JSSE

As far as I know, it is not possible to use a jce provider for the cryptographic operations of the jsse reference implementation. The sun implementation uses the algorithms implemented in the jsse provider.
There was a statement from sun, that this may change with the integration of jsse in the jdk 1.4, but with the current beta this is not the case.
Does anybody know a jsse implementation which supports the use of a third party jce provider? Actually we want to use our own smart card based jce provider to provide a jsse compatible java ssl implementation.

You might want to check out a product called iSaSiLk from iaik http://jcewww.iaik.at.
I have used this product in the past. Seemed to be quite openly designed.
iSaSiLk supports the use of third party JCE provider.
However, they do not claim the product to be compiant with the JSSE standard.
