Jabber 9.2.5 desktop sharing intermittently working

Hello All,
I'm experiencing strange problems with jabber desktop sharing feature.
I'm using CUCM 9.1 and IMP 9.1 with J4W 9.2.5 in softphone mode.
I configured the sip profile for jabber devices with: "Allow Presentation Sharing using BFCP"
Sometimes users can initiate a desktop sharing session sometimes they can't.
Can you please advise on this? Is it fully supported or I should use webex?
thanks
lorenz

  • Lync 2013 Desktop SHaring Not working from Internet

    Hi,
I am facing one issue, my Desktop Sharing is not working for Internet Clients, error message comes is "we could not connect to the presentation because of network issues" Internally it is working fine even I from Edge Server.
I am using single Public IP Configuration on Edge Server with Port 5061,444,443,3478.
Any suggestions, on I can check are welcome.
    Best Regards, Ranjit Singh

    Hello Ranjit,
Application Sharing/Desktop Sharing happens  through SRTP  through the A/V edge Server hence checking the Port Range is very important
Following Port reachability to be checked first
    Public --> Edge server:
    TCP/443
    UDP/3478
    TCP/50,000-59,999 (Outbound only)
From the Front End pool to the internal Edge:
    TCP/5062
    TCP/443
    UDP/3478
From the internal Edge to the Front End Pool:
    TCP/5065
    TCP/49152-65335 (Inbound/Outbound)

  • Support for Desktop Sharing with Jabber Windows and without CSF

    Hi,
is there a official Cisco say, that Desktop Sharing with Jabber is only supported with the Desktop Softphone mode (CSF-Device)?
Somebody has a link? Or is it supported with the normal deskphone? Which version of jabber and CUP&IM?

    Hi
I can confirm that Cisco Jabber 10.5 supports desktop sharing with both CSF and Desktop mode. It also supports Conference desktop sharing, and desktop sharing through regular chat (No active call)
We are running CUCM 9.1 and IM/Presence 9.1, so  our platform is not the newest.
You will need the new media driver as well, Cisco Media Services Interface 4.1.2.8049.
Here is a link to Cisco's release document for 10.5

  • X2go desktop sharing / desktop shadowing help

I have a 64bit Arch setup on my media center.
I'm able to get x2goserver running without any issue; I can correctly login to a new XFCE session without error;  but I cannot get x2go desktop sharing to work (connect to the running profile).
    I have:
Setup SSH/using a key on a custom port.
Installed x2goserver & x2godesktopsharing (from AUR). I've created the sqlite database (although I am unable to list users) and added myself to the appropriate group.
I also launched the x2godesktopsharing application as my user from the session I want to connect to.
When I try to login to "local desktop" on x2go client, it says "no available desktop found" and boots me off. If I run th x2godesktopsharing application as root,  I can hook into my root session (but it screws up, for obvious display reasons).  I can switch the profile to an XFCE session and it connects without issue.
Basically, what am I missing? I would love some desktop shadowing!
    Thanks

It works for me just fine. (server: x86_64, client Lubuntu arm).
I am not sure I fully understand your first post, this is how I tested it:
Let's have users foo and bar, both have user account on the server.
The server's /etc/group lists _both_ foo and bar as users of group "x2godesktopsharing".
User foo is currently logged on local console of the server (DISPLAY is :0).
User foo starts x2godesktopsharing (e.g. from xterm to see the std out) - an icon should appear in his systray. The icon has a blue frame and a green "check" mark.
User bar tries to connect to the server from client, the session type is "Local desktop" - a list of server's local desktops should be displayed (i.e. just that one run by user foo on DISPLAY :0).
User bar can choose "View Only" after highligting the single item of "foo on DISPLAY :0".
User foo is asked if he agrees with the incoming connection and can "grant" the user bar to access his desktop also in the future.
    That's it.
P.S. You may also want to test to connect to the server as the user foo for connection type "local desktop": in such a case, x2godesktopsharing does not even have to run and the desktop should be shadowed to client.

  • Desktop Sharing Jabber

    Dear's,
I have a question here for example user-X and user-Y are connected through softphone and they want to share a desktop, when user-X clicks on the  desktop ikon, desktop is seen on user-Y PC but User-Y don't have any controls on User-X desktop, user-Y is just sitting and watching what user_X is doing.
Is it jabber desktop sharing works like that ???or user_Y should get controls???
    Thanks

    Hello Jaime,
Can you route me to the docs link where it specifies that the other end can only see and dont have any controls, I want to share with customer.
After logging in, click File > Options.
Click Phone accounts on the left.  ------------->  In my Jabber 9.2 i dont have this option to choose.
Please see the attached i have specified the Directory setting in the UC services  but it is not reflecting on the Jabber client.
Thank you very for ur reply,

  • How Lync desktop sharing works for internal users

    Hi,
How Lync desktop sharing,  Aplication sharing & A/v conferencing works Internally ?
is it uses Webconfrencing Edge server & A/V Conf Edge server for internal users also...
I have confusion on this please help me and guide me how to deploy internally.
does it works with edge server internally if yes how ?
    Thanks !!!

No internal to internal conferencing, A\V and desktop share does not use the Edge Server. This is all handled by the Front End Server\s.

  • Desktop sharing refuses to work.

I switched from iPhoto to Aperture 3 and found out that the Desktop sharing does not work. The Aperture library and project structure does show in the Desktop section of the System Prefs, but none of the actual files are there. I did repair Aperture permissions etc., and of course in the Aperture prefs I allow sharing with iLife. All my photos have previews (which I made to be same size as my screen). I am surprised by this lack of integration between Apple products. Any advice?

    Hi,
I am running out of ideas and need more clues
How did you import from iPhoto? Is your library referenced or managed? Did you leave the master files inside iPhoto? Is your library located in a shared folder - that may cause problems.
Can other iLife applications see the Aperture images (Pages, iWeb) or does the problem occur with all applications?
Is it restricted to your main user account or does it work from other accounts? e.g. the Guest account?
Is it restricted to your main user library, or can you see the images in the Media Browser, if you create a small test library?
    Cheers
    Léonie
P.S. added: Did you install anything else lately, that might have modified the iLife frameworks?
I imported the 17,500 pics from iPhoto by moving everything into the Aperture library, after a clean install of Aperture 3 and update to 3.2.2. I then emptied the iPhoto library from within iPhoto. The Aperture library is inside the Pictures folder.
Re other iLife apps: I fired up Keynote and here's what happens --- it sees the Aperture library structure hierarchy, but only shows movies --- none of the stills. Importing a movie into Keynote works fine!
I don't have a guest account on my laptop.
As you suggested, I created a small new library (with 8 pics), then exited Aperture. When I went to System Prefs then, I could see it and use its images for desktop!! However, when I reopened Aperture and switched back to the big library, it was back to the old problem: I see all the projects and folders, but no pics.
I have not installed anything else after installing Aperture.
Thanks again for taking time to help me out!!

  • Jabber Desktop Sharing

    Hello,
I have CUPS 8.6.4 (on-prem) and jabber client 9.1.3. I am trying to share my desktop with multiple people without escalating to WebEx.
It seems like i can only share with one other person and only if both clients are set to "use my computer"
Can I share to multiple people in desktop mode?
If not is this on the roadmap? Also not to have to be in "use my computer" mode.
    thnaks,
    Randall

Cisco Jabber for Windows will only be able to do desktop sharing with BFCP enabled CSFs (configuration may vary based on your CUCM version), at this moment you will be able to do it only with one contact at a time.
I think you might find that out in the release notes
    Regards,
    Josh.

  • Disbale Desktop Sharing in Jabber for Windows for single users

    Hi,
is there possibility to administrative disabling the desktop sharing feature for selected users?
CUP and CUCM is 8.6. Jabber is 10.5. Use DesktopSharing via Chat without any phone or deskphone only.
    Regards

I am referring to the new Screen Sharing way in Jabber 10.5 for screen sharing without having a video call running:
"In addition to the video screen share (BFCP) feature that is available to video-enabled clients when on a call, users can now screen share directly from an IM conversation when video share is not provisioned or available."

  • Things which can break Lync desktop sharing

    Proxy URL filter
For one of my customers, Lync desktop sharing suddenly stopped working only from a particular network. All required ports were opened, telnet , tracert all fine, also sometimes we saw it working , so it was intermittent.  you can guess what security
and network team will say J.
Then captured traffic in netmon and it shows that there is reset for 443 traffic and uccplog shows error which points to 443 inspection device on the network , so shared it with network and security team, you wouldn’t guess their response this time
J they asked me to identify the device which is resetting 443 session.  Now I only had to solve this issue, I knew even PSS engineer can only tell us that there is reset.
I started off with question  How it works some times?” , answer to this is that whenever it worked someone from Local IT team has logged in to that computer, also when logged in as normal users netstat shows time wait for 443 and sometimes sharing invitation
expires.  This gave me a clue, so I asked for a new laptop which is not a member of any domain and started drilling down. ..Finally found that URL filtering rule has been applied to users in that subnet and corp application FQDNs are not bypassed. It
was URL filtering application which was stopping this traffic.
I told security team that proxy is causing this issue GUESS WHAT they asked me why they were not informed about Lync FQDN earlier
    J
    WAN optimizer.
It was another lovely day in office talking all important topics like work life balance, movies , next best weekend place etc… suddenly tickets started flowing for desktop sharing issue. Immediately P1 case was opened and all of us specialist joined P1 bridge
just to say WE DID NOT DO ANY CHANGES! Now someone is surely jealous of someone being happy or someone has not followed the change process. Who it is? And what it is has to be investigated, of course  by Lync team.
Again netmon says 443 rest and error message says 443 inspection.. Being a Microsoft application  expert you are not done yet without finding out which device is doing it, isn’t  it? . So started isolating the issue. Noticed that issue is happening
only from specific region only. So asked everyone on call what is so special about this region…there was a dead silence and there was a smart answer YOU TELL US! Well this went on for a while till someone from network team asked with low tone
will wan  optimizer has any impact on Lync traffic??
    J
It was WAN optimizer which was causing this issue.
    Regards
    Praveen R

  • Desktop Sharing using CUCM 8.5

I beleive that desktop sharing using Jabber with bfcp is only available using CUCM 8.62a and install the bfcp cop file. Desktop sharing will not work with CUCM 8.5. Correct?

    Hi,
    Yes, this is correct.

  • Desktop sharing function not optional!

Argggg... Have a friend who just purchased new MBP. She downloaded Messages per my requesting thinking we would be able to share desktops so that I may help her. Unfortunately, the "Share My Screen," or "Ask to Share My Screen" functions are in gray scale and don't give me option to share my desktop, and vice versa. Help! Does Messages Beta disallow desktop sharing? If not, why does the option remain in gray-scale, not allowing me to exchange desktops with my fellow Apple user?

    Hi,
The Screen Names or IDs your are using should belong to the same Service.
That is to say you should be both using an AIM or AIM valid Name (Apple IDs ending in @mac.com or @me.com)
Or to the Jabber Service (various Jabber servers including Google Talk and Facebook's "Chat")
    Next.
Check the Message Menu > Preferences > Video Section > Bandwidth Limit
This should be at least set at 500kbps.
    Can you Video Chat ?
Audio Only and Video Chat uses the same Internet ports through your computer and router.
If you can't Video Chat then you can't Audio Only chat and if you can't do that then the Screen Sharing (An Audio Only Chat+) also will not work.
Follow that with an Internet Speed check
    http://www.speedtest.net/
You need to be seeing at least 128kbps as an Upload for Screen Sharing to work.
Higher would be better as at speeds that low you lose some to the "overheads" of maintaining a connection with your ISP and other small now and then checks from the Mail app and any Web Browser that is open.
(This 128kbps figure is Apple's stated minimum.)
With a computer doing nothing else then ichat will grab as much Bandwidth (It's portion of the Internet speed) as it can.
However it is also set up to allow other apps to have priority over the Processor.
This can mean that Time Machine will hold up Video "Production" and also disrupt any incoming Audio and Video.
    Next.
iChat/Message beta checks the available Internet connection when you start the App.
It writes this info to the com.apple.ichat.plist (even if you are using Messages beta)
If you have the app starting when the computer does the checks the OS is doing may cause the app to think there is less Bandwidth than there actually is.
Following a check by restarting the App it is also worthwhile to check what apps are actually using the Internet.
As stated above, iChat/Messages may in fact be well down the list.
Also other computers and devices on your (or your Buddy's) LAN can also make a difference.
    Possible "fix"
Once you have eliminated all of those possibles then you can try deleting the com.apple.ichat.plist (As it holds the Speed found) and "reset" the .plist
Open the Finder as the "Front" App
    Use th Go Menu
Hold the ALT key down to See the Library
    Select the Library
Open th Preferences and find com.apple.ichat.plist
Drag this to the Trash ( to delete it)
Restart iChat or Messages beta to recreate the .plist from defaults.
