Jabber and Google Talk Issues

I use a Google Talk account, and I was delighted to see that iChat was compatible with it. However, one day it stopped working and I saw my account was deleted. I went to re-create it and Jabber and Google Talk are no longer choices I can choose from. I can see them, but I can't actually select them. Any help would be great, because a lot of my friends are Google Talkers.

Have you Enable Parental Controls on this Mac User Account ?
Have you set Parental Controls on another User Account and set iChat up with the same ID ?
(Have you used the same ID/Screen Name on another computer that has Parental Controls ?)
If you have and you have not allowed the Jabber Buddies to be listed or have not set the iChat part up in the first place you will have issues as Jabber (and therefore Googletalk) and Bonjour can be Blocked.
This more effects Leopard than it does Snow Leopard but that was why I hinted at other computers because it blocks the Buddies by Flagging them on the Server (this does not explain why you cannot access the choice in the current iChat)

  • Why do i need three? - Google Talk Plugin, Google talk plugin video renderer and Google talk plugin video accelerator?

When I check my plugins, the following three, very closely related (in my mind) plugins are listed, and the "Renderer" still shows "Research" when checking to see if it is Up-To-Date. It seems to me I don't need all three. I tried removing the Renderer (yes, I know how to do that safely), but Google seems to continue to reinstall it (with one or both of the other two...?)...I'll ask this on a Google Forum too, since it's their product, but wondered if anyone has any insight. I obsess about plugins that need "Research" - Thanks!
Google Talk Plugin Video Accelerator version:0.1.44.24
    Google Talk Plugin Version 3.15.2.12038
Google Talk Plugin Video Renderer Version 3.15.2.12038

Went to Google Talk Help and found advice to remove the "googletalkplugin_port file on [my] computer."
http://support.google.com/chat/bin/static.py?hl=en&page=known_issues.cs ... and click "Voice and video plug-in unrecognized" under "Currently Known Issues"....
Now, the only Google Talk plugin I have in Firefox is
    Google Talk Plugin Video Renderer
    Version 3.15.2.12038
...but it does indeed remain "Unrecognized" by Mozilla/Firefox...

  • Bug: Pre 2 IMAP and Google sync issues with migrated 1.4.5 profile

    HI!
I have a European (GSM) unlocked Pre 2 with webOS 2.0.1.
The profile was migrated from a Pre Classic with webOS 1.4.5.
After entering profile account, I had these problems:
    1.
I had to enter my Google account password 3 times (got 3 notifications about that).
    2.
Google contacts and Calendar sync did only work from Google to the Pre 2. After deleting and re-adding my Google account, it seems to work in both directions now.
    3.
My IMAP (uwimap server) account did not recognize the special folders (sent, draft, trash). When using the same IMAP account with webOS 1.4.5, I had to enter "./" as folder prefix as a workaround to make it work.
After migrating to the Pre 2, I had to delete an re-add the IMAP account. After that, it recognized the special folders without using the workaround.
So, maybe webOS should delete and re-add all Google and IMAP accounts by itself during profile migration from 1.4.5.

  • IPhone and Google Calendar issue

I'm going mental trying to figure something out here and I hope that someone can help me.
My wife and I both have an iphone, and, gmail accounts and wanted to have a calendar used by both of us so we can update different reminders and events and have them sync over the air. easy enough. Right ?
I created my calender under gmail. Set it up on my iphone, and, all is working fine. If I create an event on the gmail calendar, it gets pushed to my phone, and, it happens the other way around also. perfect. that part is good.
Now, I get my wife's phone and set hers up to "subscribe" to my calendar. All seems to work fine, but, for some reason, she isn't getting pop-up alerts on her phone when an event happens.
If I update something on my calendar, and, she opens up my calendar on her iphone, she can see that there is a new event, but, it doesn't pop-up a reminder on her phone when it's time. It kinda defeats the purpose of this utility.
I made sure on her gmail page that she has pop-up reminders on. am I missing something?
I've been subscribing and unsubscribing to my calender (with her phone for hours now) trying to figure out what Im doing wrong, and Im about to go mad.
    Any ideas?

I got it figured out. Thanks for your quick and detailed help "Randy Fast"

  • How to enable usage of Jabber (& Google Talk) accounts w/Parental Controls

    Hello all,
As someone who just spent a few hours trying to figure out how to get iChat in a Parental Controlled account to work with Jabber (and Google Talk) accounts, and seeing that there were no good solutions posted on these boards earlier, I just wanted to share a workaround which could potentially work for some people.
You can find the solution posted on my wiki: http://wiki.lensovet.net/EnableJabber_accounts_in_iChat_with_Parental_Controlledaccounts
Of course, the usual caveats apply: make sure you have a backup of all your data before you proceed, and I take no responsibility if things go awry. If you have any questions, please post them as replies to this thread.
Good luck! Hope you find this helpful.

    Hi,
The reason I ask is that in Snow Leopard you can Add the Jabber/Google account's Buddies to the Allow List and they will work.
In Leopard this cannot be done (The Parental Controls vary in this extent).
In either case Bonjour also does not work.
Can you confirm you can Enable your Bonjour Buddy List (even if you have no other Macs) ?
Some people may find it useful to use to call kids, via Bonjour, for Tea or Dinner but still use other features of the Parental Controls.

hi. i am trying to set up ichat with google talk, but in the account type list, there's only AIM, mobleme, and mac.com; then there's the line and nothing else. any help on making it appear??

    Hi,
The Jabber and Google options should be there but greyed out if Parental Controls is On for the Mac User account you are logged in with.

  • Multiple Accounts - AIM / .Mac / Google Talk (Jabber)

    Hello,
I am fairly new to all of this, and I have a question which I haven't really been able to answer by searching this site...
I have three chat / messenger accounts in iChat, AIM, .Mac and Google Talk (Jabbber).
Can anyone contact me on any of those accounts at the same time? Or do I have to be logged to to the relevant account for them to do that?
Also, I notice from the icon in the dock that, when I am logged on to either .Mac or AIM (indicated by a tick), there is also a tick by the Google account. Does this mean I am logged on to that at the same time?
Also, can .Mac send messages to AIM, and vice versa? Both types of accounts appear in each when you add buddies from the address book,
    Thanks
    Gareth

  • File Transfer Option Greyed Out with Google Talk users..

I don't know if this is possible. Is it possible to get file transfer to work between Mac iChat 4.0 users and Google Talk Windows users? Or is this not possible.. if it is possible can someone point me in the direction of getting this enabled?
    Thank you,

  • Google Talk

Hi. I have an iBook. I want to be able to audio chat using iChat and google talk. I followed the instructions to set up jabber and it worked in so far as i can message people on my buddy list by typing. However, the invite buddy to audio chat option remains greyed out. How do I get this option? What have I done wrong?

  • Google talk allows me to IM in iChat but not initiate or receive audio

I set up the jabber account as per the instructions here:
    http://www.google.com/support/talk/bin/answer.py?answer=24076
Once in iChat, I can IM with other gmailers but the phone icon is greyed out. when my PC using friend tries to call me, he gets the following error message: "you cannot call because [[email protected]] is using chat in gmail or another chat program other than google talk"
So I logged out of all the other iChat accounts. that didn't help.
Logged out of gmail in my internet browser. That didn't help
I downloaded Adium thinking maybe it was just an iChat thing. But Adium does not give me a call button/option either.
I'm in Canada and my friend is in the US. Might this have something to do with it?
I'm sorry if this has been answered before. I tried to find the answer on my own and could not.
    Thanks,

You currently are not able to initiate audio or video chats with anyone other than iChat users over XMPP/Jabber.
Google Talk uses a variation on the new Jingle standards for audio over XMPP.
When Apple first added audio and video to iChat over XMPP/Jabber there were no standards for doing it so Apple used their own custom method (they do it exactly the same way as when using AIM or Bonjour).
Jingle and Apple's custom method are incompatible, so you will only be able to initiate audio or video with other Mac users using iChat.
All we can do is cross our fingers and hope that Apple will update iChat to comply with standards in a future release (the CEO of Google was recently appointed to the Apple board so hopefully this bodes well for the future).

  • Can we do a video from iChat to a Google Talk plug-in user

If a person I know is into using the Google Talk plug-in, which uses say [email protected] and I use iChat, can I Add Buddy entering [email protected] and invite that person to video chat?
There may be 2 parts to this:
    1) From Leopard
    2) From Snow Leopard
What I have seen so far:
A friend on Leopard cannot enter [email protected] and see my name in his Buddy List. Leopard wants .mac, .me or AIM in a popup.
In my own SL, I have entered an@gmail name in and see it appear with an AIM guy icon, but have not been able to try the chat.
Then, if iChat to GTalk can be done, can a 3-way chat be done this way?
I'm still trying to find someone to test with me but meanwhile maybe someone else has experience with it.
    Thanks.
    ~Deb

What? I don't think that is correct (about the Codec). Both ichat AV and google talk video use H.264 and MPEG4 audio for their codecs.
"Currently, only Gmail voice and video chat supports sending and receiving video. At this time, the H.264/SVC and H.264/AVC codecs are supported. Other codecs may be supported in future versions."
    And ichat A/V
    http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IChat
    Additionally, video conferencing uses H.264/AVC
And finally...Google Talk Video most certainly does NOT use Flash
    http://news.cnet.com/google-launches-video-chat-for-gmail/
"Unlike many current video chat products, Gmail Video and Voice uses a proprietary plug-in, not Flash. The small (2MB) download supports Firefox, IE, and Chrome on the PC, and Firefox on the Mac. Support for other browsers and platforms (Linux and mobile) may come later."
All that being said you are correct though about compatibility. Even though Apple and Google Talk videoconferencing use the same codecs for video and audio they cannot communicate with each other.

  • Imessages on macbook not working. All contacts/conversations that used imessage are now switched to google talk/jabber.

imessage on my macbook has always had a few bugs...it never recieved imessages sent from other friends with iphones right away, maybe upon next start up it would, but the messages would all come out of order.  It could send out messages that would then also show up on my iphone 5s.
As of today, all my conversations that were going on my imessages no longer have the contact names associated with them, just the phone numbers, and they show as offline.  The text field shows that the conversations are in Google Talk (which is offline) but each of those phone numbers is associated to someone I know with an iphone and they should be imessages, not google talk buddies.  I don't even have all those numbers stored in my google accounts.
I have tried altering settings both on my phone and my laptop so that only my imessages account is logged in or active and have deselected google talk, but none of the contacts come back up.  Icloud is set to sync contacts with my phone and with imessages.
How can I get my contacts back under imessages?

    Hi,
I have seen this with a actual Jabber account that was using Facebook chat as the Buddy list.
This seemed to loose the Real Names from the Contacts app  even though the details still seemed to be in that app.
The issue was traced in that case to an issue with the Facetime server (the Facebook Chat server is supposed to check with the main server and uses this to verify "real names" and this can bypass the Mac's own Contacts app if you are not syncing with Facebook.
Have you tried restarting the computer ?

  • Google Talk and iChat Simultaneously

I want to use Google Talk without losing my iChat A/V, ie; Jabber List plus Buddy List. I setup Google Talk in iChat via Jabber, and tried to run it beside my iChat account, but got locked out of AIM because I was 'overusing the server'. I had to deactivate the GT Account (Jabber) to regain my iChat account. Is it not possible to have both? Or is there another solution for VOiP with the Windows world?

    Hi Joe,
    Welcome to the Apple Discussions
Not quite sure what you mean here.
    iChat has three Buddy Lists.
    The AIM (Main "Buddy List")
The Bonjour one (if you have other Macs)
The Jabber one. (includes GoogleTalk as you say)
The AIM and the Jabber ones require that you log in to different servers.
The only problem I can envisage is if you have set the Jabber account up with using a Transport back to your AIM name.
Having said that you are in Abu Dhabi and this may be what the local ISP is saying about your usage.
The Middle Eastern ISPs have issues all of their own normally centered around "Security"

  • HT2515 Can you ichat with friends that have a different account e.g. google talk and yahoo

I have an aol account and my friend has a gmail account and we have been trying to chat with eachother. We made sure that we were both online and we were but it said that my friend was offline and unavailable. I thought the problem might be that we have different accounts. Can anyone help?

    Hi,
You both need to using AIM valid name or both using Jabber based IDs like FaceBook or GoogleTalk  (oor Yahoo if you must)
Apple's @mac.com and @me.com are Valid AIM names as well as regular AIM names.
Jabber IDs are gained from non centralised servers and there are thousands of Public and private servers issuing IDs
Google Mail with "Talk" enabled on your Accounts settings or a FaceBook account with "Chat" enabled are valid Jabber IDs
Jabber IDs are rarely emails (Google is an exception).
However they follow the email format which means the AIM Buddy list will "accept" them format wise
(the same is true to some extent the other way round)
