Jabber - frequent requests

iChat 4.0.2 (604)
Many people complain to me frequent requests (3 times per second) from ichat (jabber)

  • Frequent requests for hard switchoffs

    My Imac appears to be working perfectly with no problems but quite frequently when I switch off at the end of the day it fails to shut down and tells me to do a hard reset shut down by holding the on switch in for several seconds.  Next time I start the computer it asks to send a message to apple which in amongst a list of  details I dont understand says it has had one or more panics since last time.  I send the message and everything is fine.  note this does not happen aloways it sometimes switches off perfectly normally
    Is this a real porblem or just an annoyance.  I have not been able to identify any pattern in software usage which  this may be related to in spite of doing several tests.
    IanK

    Thankyou for your help.  I had a look in the logs and spotted some panic reports but it only seems to keep the last dozen or so altough there may be a longer record in my time machine backups.  Looks like I had better book an apointment with the diagnostic people at my local shop.  I am tending to have more problems with my internet connection failing erratically.  I put it down to the fgact that I am using a wireless network connection but maybe its more thaqn that.

  • Frequent requests to verify Apple ID (mostly on iPhone)

    Over the last few weeks, I've multiple requests to verify my Apple ID by entering my password. I've had multiple requests on the same day. Is this an indication of something wrong? If so, is it something wrong with my iPhone, my Apple account or something more nefarious?

    Go to iforgot.apple.com...if you try and reset there and still have issues you are going to have to call apple to see if they can help you get the iforgot email

  • Frequent requests to login in to Apple ID followed by Security lock-out

    I have an iPhone 5s and an iPad 2 (not air). My son has an iPod that is connected with the family sharing option. Over the last month or so, I've been frequently—and I mean FREQUENTLY, almost every day—been asked to enter my Apple ID password. That would be frustrating enough, but then, after I enter it, it pops up again and again and again until it tells me my password is wrong. I can tell you with 100% certainty that I have entered the password correctly more than once in a string of those pop-ups and it continues to happen as I described. And, when I then go to reset my password, I'm given the option to "unlock" my password which requires me entering security questions and my password, which it readily accepts as correct and unlocks my password.
    Most of the time, I will then go to use my devices after that and the password will then work for a while until the cycle starts again a day or so later.
    I've talked to Apple Support and they told me the only reason I'd be getting locked out of my account is if someone has tried to enter my password too many times, but from my end, I would be the only person that would be trying to enter it. And that doesn't solve why its not accepting my password that I know for a fact to be correct when asked to sign in.
    As added information, I did completely reset my password about a week ago and it still continues to happen with the new password. Also, when I then sign on to once of my two Mac computers (iMac and Macbook Pro) they prompt me to enter my password twice and then verify the security code from my credit card in iTunes.
    I'm beyond frustrated at this point. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!!

    I am having a similar problem. My account has been disabled, I have changed the password and spoke with tech support and they said i would have to talk to someone about why my account was disabled before it ca get fixed.

  • Jabber Frequently Disconnects Unexpectedly

    I POSTED THIS IN THE WRONG FORUM EARLIER, SORRY ABOUT THAT AND I DIDN'T SEE THIS ONE. COULD A MOD PLEASE DELETE THE OTHER THREAD. THANKS.
    I'm experiencing (every 7 or so minutes) a disconnect in jabber. This is annoying because the conversation simply drops. I'm using an EDIMAX router branded as COMPUSA. I have chax installed, but uninstalled it.
    I'm using talk.google.com as the server (not with the L) and with a google apps jabber account.
    I think it is a router problem, but don't know how to fix it. Any ideas?
    Following is from console.log:
    6/2/08 5:19:15 PM iChatAgent124 WARNING: SocketStream: CFStream error 1/54 occurred on input stream
    6/2/08 5:19:15 PM iChatAgent124 WARNING: XMLStream: CFStream error 1/54 occurred on input
    6/2/08 5:19:15 PM iChatAgent124 WARNING: JConnection: Error: Could not connect to server: talk.google.com, type=0, code=54

    You might be better off posting this in the JabberVideo support forum since it involves the "free" jabber.com version which is hosted and provisioned by Cisco, unless this happens with on-prem (enterprise) version as well?
    By the way, current jabber.com version is 4.8.8.

    Hi,
    On most devices Port Forwarding is synonymous with Port Forwarding.
    They have one or the other. (on some it is called Pin Holes)
    In both cases you state a port on the WAN side that data will come in from (a Buddy in this case) and point to a port on the LAN side with a specified IP address of a computer or router.
    For an App like iChat or an On-line Game you add further ports until all the ports that app uses are covered. ON some devices this is a one by one entry method. Others allow you to group some or all ports.
    Port Triggering is different.
    It listens on a selected port and when data arrives it opens further ports.
    It has the advantage when set up of allowing multiple computers to use the same ports.
    For iChat this can mean a bit of working out and also knowing which port is used first in the AV side.
    In Tiger ichat uses 5060, 5190, 5220, 5222, 5223, 5297, 5298, 5353, 5678 and a group of 20 ports 16384-16403
    Any single port listed above can be set to Trigger itself with two exceptions.
    5678 is where the visible invite of a AV chat starts. So this is the Trigger.
    It should open at least port 5060. I say at least as different devices allow different settings just to confuse things)
    On some you can set port 5678 on UDP as the Trigger and have it open 5060,16384-16403 (note the lack of Spaces and use of commas and dashes)
    Other devices only let you use dashes so port 5678 triggers 5060 and then port 5060 Triggers ports 16384-16403
    In Leopard in becomes simpler as it does not use port 5060 and the SIP port and default AV port are the same port.
    Therefore port 5678 can Trigger ports 16393-16402
    As your description mentions Port Triggering needs protocols stated.
    They are as follows
    5190 on TCP should trigger port 5190 on Both/Any
    The three 5220, 5222, 5223 are all Jabber ports on TCP and only TCP and should trigger themselves.
    The next three are the Bonjour Ports
    5297 is UDP
    5298 is TCP to Trigger Both/Any
    5353 is UDP
    The others are all UDP to Trigger UDP
    You should use only one method.
    As an Example of Port Forwarding
    As you can see not all have been made active to the IP listed but if you use this method that IP will be the one your Computer has.
    ON the same device the Commas and dashes are not used although groups are covered in their version of Port Triggering
    Some tables as I have said will be laid out differently and have two boxes for ports. One for the Trigger and a longer spaces for listing several ports separated as I have listed.
    See this Emulation page http://support.dlink.com/Emulators/di624revC/advappl.html Where you can see some examples in the list below fresh settings. Just to add to the confusion they call this "Applications" as opposed to "Virtual Server". Unfortunately you can not add ne settings to see it in action further.
    As you can see it takes longer to describe than it takes to do.
    Hope this helps.

  • Frequent request to use more memory

    I often am asked for permission for the site to use more (Safari) memory.  It's annoying.  What can I do to elimintae this annoyance?  I've set "database storage" to 50 meg but the popup message thinks I have much less.
    Mac OS10.5.8  I believe I have the latest update for the player as well.

    It may be that that is all the memory that is needed for the current tasks. Consider that even when your system is working hard, it may not be the RAM the is the bottleneck. It may be that the hard disks, the buses, the CPUs, or the GPU is where the resources are maxed out.

  • Frequent Requests for Apple ID on iPad Mini

    I just purchased an iPad mini. It repeatedly requires me to enter my Apple ID. My prior iPad did not do this. How can I stop this?Fr

    It's asking specifically for my Apple ID. Here's the prompt:
    Sign In to iCloud
    Enter the Apple ID password for "XXX.com'. [XXX represents the email assocated with my Apple account.]
    Following that is the space to enter in the password, with an option to press Cancel or OK.
    This is happening after I've been off my iPad for a litle while. Also, just this morning, I was reading a book through the iBooks app and was prompted at least a few times.

  • How to stop frequent keychain login password requests

    This problem is very irritating, I’m getting asked frequently by OS X to enter a keychain login password.  What I’ve read suggests this is related to a problem with Keychain Access.  One explanation says it can be caused by an administrator account password change where the default keychain password does not change, resulting in an inconsistency.  I have NOT changed my account password so I don’t think this is the cause of my problem.
    I’ve also tried using Keychain Access First Aid, but it currently finds no problems.
    In my case, this appears to have started after an upgrade from OS X Mavericks to Yosemite.  When I did the upgrade, the first problem I encountered was Mail stopped working – I was unable to send or receive mail.  I could, however, go to my mail provider at their web site and view mail there just fine.  That problem was resolved by using Keychain Access First Aid - I can now use Apple Mail on my "Air" just fine, but I’m still being inundated with frequent requests to enter a keychain login password.  I get these requests from Mail, AddressBookSourceSync, Messages Agent, Safari, Local Items, CalendarAgent, and com.apple.MailServiceAgent.xpc.
    Once I enter my login password to 3-5 of these requests, I’m able to continue working on my Macbook Air, however once I close and reopen the lid of my Air, the requests start anew.
    Any help would be greatly appreciated.  Thanks.

  • XSQLServlet enhancement request

    Allow connection information to be passed through from a login screen.
    For example, I create an application where the users should log in. Subsequent connections to the database are made with that username/password. This would be an alternative for having to store all username/password combinations inside the XSQLConfig.xml file.
    Thanks.

    Having each user logon as their own username and password defeats the usefulness of the connection pooling that XSQLServlet offers.
    Typical web applications connect to the database as a single (backend) database schema, and use HTTP Authentication and/or cookies to identify users.
    However, it's been a frequent request, so we're looking into it for future releases.

    Hi All
    When we submit the concurrent requests, these are displayed in the submit request window. Suppose I want to delete the list of completed requests from the screen, how can I do it?
    Regards

    Run the concurrent request Purge Concurrent Request/And or Manager Data. Start with purging anything older than 30 days, then verify fnd_concurrent_requests has less than 50,000 rows. If not, purge the most frequent requests.

  • Is lookup required for every request(SLSB)?

    Hi,
    I have a SLSB and a client that makes frequent requests as needed. The question is, should the client make a fresh lookup for every request in a session or just once per session?
    I have tried both the ways and got it to work...but can someone tell me the correct approach for lookup?
    thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the reply!
    By your statment that EJB Home Handle can be cached, I understand the following..
    MyBeanRemote mybean = null; // declaring as class variable.
    // making a request
    if(mybean==null)
    lookupBean();
    mybean.doSomething();
    // making next request
    if(mybean==null)
    lookupBean();
    mybean.doSomethingMore();
    // here goes the lookup...
    lookupbean() {
       mybean = ...lookup("......");
    }so, this is how before each request, I check if the mybean is null. in lookupBean(), the bean-lookup process is executed and reference is set to mybean.
    am I right?

  • Is there a way to create a "Print This Page" link?

    I have a client who want to insert a print this page link that launches their print utility. Is this possible with Muse?

    This is not a function of Muse. You'll need to use the 'insert arbitrary HTML' function to add this.
    Here's where to get the javascript to insert.
    Beware that Muse only produces a generic stylesheet and does not define its specific media type. That means that printing a Muse-generated web page or rendering a Muse website on a mobile device can be extremely messy.  Elements may fall off of a page or may be sized oddly. The Muse showcase shows how the Horace and Lydia site falls apart in print. Elements appear broken and blank pages result.
    Muse developers need to employ semantic markup so that users can design stylesheets for different media types. This topic is related to the frequent requests that Muse should be able to design for mobile devices. Muse just isn't smart enough to do what a professional designer would want.

  • Lightroom features/bug fixes I would like to see in next version

    I love the Adobe Lightroom Application. It is very intiutive and out of the different RAW processing programs I've tried, it is the only one that has most of the features I need and has the least amount of complications. However, I think there are still places to improve upon:
    * Decouple raw processor from the monolithic software executable so that updates to the RAW camera component to add new cameras can be made without requiring huge downloads or reinstallation of a new software program but simply updating a few DLLs and files.
    * Improve performance of the Develop panel. It is extremely slow on my laptop running 32bit Windows 7 and 3GB of RAM with dual core processor (pre-Core duo). 8 to 10 seconds for the "loading" message to disappear per image no matter how often I have loaded or edited the image. No caching is being done at all.
    * On my higher powered Desktop (Quad Core2 processor/4GB RAM,Windows 7), Adobe Lightroom frequently will start behaving strangely after only a few hours of running. It seems like it is leaking resources or something because eventually functionality will start failing. Specifically, right clicking on images will no longer bring up menus for example. If i shutdown and restart the application, the problem goes away.
    * Photoshop-like healing brush. Many times I want to "brush" over areas of image defects but the only choice in Lightroom is the healing tool which always creates a circle and does not allow "brushing".  This only works if the defect is a spot and not an irregular area.
    * Adjustment with Arbitrary Mask tool. Bibble 5 has this nice concept where you can mask out a section of an image and then apply adjustments to it without affecting the rest of the image. You simply draw a mask and then you can apply adjustments to it. The only option in Lightroom is to select the "Mask" option but that leaves the decision of where exactly you want to mask to Lightroom which only uses edge contrast to determine masking area.
    * I'd like a way to tell Lightroom to update the metadata (write out) on all images that are out of sync. Right now the write metadata function will write out metadata to all files whether or not it is required. This means that it is inpractical to try to update your entire catalog as tens of thousands of files will be written to and not just those that are out of sync. This is very important as a way to preserve editing metadata in case of loss of the Lightroom catalog.
    * Option to write import metadata to imported files. For example, I have an import metadata for copyright and keywords and I want the imported JPG or DNG files to permanently have this metadata so that even if individual files are copied my copyright and other metadata are preserved with it.
    * Option to append text labels to automatically generated import destination folder names. So for example, I can still import into date based directories but append a description to help me remember what the folder contains when I'm later browsing it. Right now it is either/or. You can either choose the name of the import folder destination OR you can have the software generate one for you.
    * A google-type search box at the top of the library panel so that ad-hoc searches can be done without having to fool around with the filters. Everybody is used to a single search box for simple textual searches.
    * some way to filter images by whether they have been exported previously or not
    * Please support lens and shooting information for Sony DSLRs in both JPG and RAW files. Also support 3rd party lenses on Sony DSLRs without assigning the wrong Minolta lenses to them. I want to be able to see both Lens name, max aperture, focusing distance (if available) etc...
    * Some way to edit the Shooting lens information to support lenses which are not known to Lightroom, and if suggestion above won't be implemented, some way for the user to edit the lens id --> mapping table so that I can properly map my own 3rd party lenses.
    * Facial recognition/tagging option. Some way to have Lightroom apply people tags after I have tagged representative images. Handle multiple people in a scene.
    * Automatic (batch) export of images on schedule. I would like a way to configure Lightroom to automatically generate particular export configuration of all my images in a catalog (or some defined subset) such that new files or files that have been edited since last export are automatically exported on a schedule even if Lightroom is not running. Perhaps a Lightroom batch service. This is so that I can always  have up to date processed versions  of my images for use in my media center display. I would like to configure the Lightroom batch service to run weekly at say 2am every day, run a particular export function and export all new or modified images to a network share accessible by the media center. That way, I can always have access to cropped and edit images without manually doing exports all the time or having to remember which files I've edited and then export them. Also by doing this at off hours it would not slow down my computer while I'm using it.
    * Better profiles for Sony DSLRs and support for their picture styles the same way that Canon and Nikon camera are supported.
    * Teethering support for Sony DSLRs that have this feature
    * Support for parametric plugins -- Plugins that do not require the image to be exported before running.
    * Simple support for "picture frames" when exporting. Some way to apply a frame to an image as part of export with a dozen or so frames included and a way for 3rd parties to create more.
    * A better way to safely share catalogs or pictures between multiple computers/users in a networked environment.

    Did these come to you all at once, or have you been saving them up for a while?
    Anyway, Adobe *should* be able to handle long lists of FR, but another option is to break them up and submit them for voting on the new FR/Idea site that will shortly replace this one: (It was really hot for a while, but has cooled down lately...)

    They are already decoupled - you can update ACR independently for new camera support, however it's released at about the same frequency as Lightroom itself, so that doesn't help much. Perhaps this should be reworded: "Provide more timely ACR updates..."

    I've been complaining about this for a long time - ACR cache is worthless for me too - if dev image not in RAM cache, takes same amount of time to render whether in ACR disk cache or not. Some say ACR cache speeds things up for them - perhaps you need to *believe*...
    PS - After new motherboard upgrade, this went from 15 seconds to 3 seconds average.

    Yep - Lightroom still has some leaks - gotta restart it from time to time...

    +1 vote - arguably the most desired addition to the dev tools. I bet Lr4 will have this (no inside info though).

    Frequently requested - some use pre-startup database query + plugin to make collection in the mean time (I dont).

    RC Importer supports this - its an import plugin that bypasses the import dialog box - not for everyone...

    Maybe the seeds of a good idea here, but may be worth some refinement/clarification - what would be searched? Would special syntax be supported? Personally, I mostly hate all 1-box search fields, because one never knows what's being searched and how, e.g. does it search the whole catalog?, is it case sensitive? On the other hand, I get the convenience factor... - I think if accompanied by help and/or the ability to pop up a dialog box for refinement or options, this might make a nice addition. Along these lines, I sometimes think a quick-smart-collection would be nice too - for when one wants to search 2 text fields, instead of just one. I keep a temporary smart collection just for this purpose, but still...

    Change detecting export plugins have mostly solved this for me (and publishing for some folks), although adding export info (and metadata change info) to catalog for searching / sorting still sounds like a good idea to me...

    Yes, better export management would be welcome. Export Manager might help you (if you have multiple export destinations to update), but its not a panacea... Many of us ultimately "consume" our photos outside Lightroom, having the consumption copies kept up to date more fluidly would be good. Using change detecting export plugins (along with export-manager) and/or publishing helps..
    HopeSpringsEternal2008 wrote:

    Yep - much room for plugins to get better integrated with Lightroom proper, to participate in image enhancement, as well as other things...

    That would be nice. Although support for 3rd parties to add frames *upon export* already exists (export filter plugin + export post-process actions), as well as adding text overlays and such. But since its not built into Lightroom, one has to find them and configure them... And there is no good way to preview them in Lightroom... I think this would go nicely with the previous request - ability to feed image data to plugins for preview in Lightroom. Even if these updates were not built-into the dev module - i.e. weren't kept updated automatically whilst editing - just being able to click a 'see final' button or have it rolled into the build-previews function, so one could have post-process imaging plugins (with preview before export) - might be a nice compromise until true imaging plugins (that fit into dev pipeline) are supported.
    The end - for now...

    button size (height,width), location, horizontal/vertical layout,
    transparency, and menu header options. The product is distributed

    Dirk, the Menu Wizard does not have a feature to
    restrict users from going to various sections (slides) until
    they have visited other sections (slides).
    However, you might be able to accomplish this by 1) using
    some creative branching or 2) breaking your project up into
    separate movies - 1 for each section. At the end of section 1 -
    there is a Click Box or Button that will launch section 2. In this
    case, the Menu Wizard would be used for navigation within 1 movie
    (section) at a time.
