Jabber Persistent Chat Room oddity

Hi,
I'm currently running Persistent Chat Rooms on version 10.5.1 of Presence. We have recently been experiencing an odd problem with Chat Rooms where they are created as Private rooms, for then to randomly change to Public. The settings are locked down that once a room is created you can't then change its permissions without deleting and recreating. We've had Persistent Chat Rooms set up for a couple of months and its only been the past couple of weeks we have noticed the problem.
Has anyone else come across this and if so found a fix? I've not found anything else on the forum regarding this so am wondering if we're the lucky ones!
Any help would be appreciated,
Rob

Hi Rob
I would start looking at the history of changes i did on the Presence for Persistent Chat rooms on the Group Chat and Persistent Chat option. Specifically under member settings.
Share your screenshot of the above page i will try to replicate in my lab, and also mention the Jabber version you are using.

    Hi All,
I have small Lync setup based on a Standard Edition server, with the Persistent Chat server co-located on the SE. User within the organisation can manage chat room just fine via the web interface, yet external users are presented with an Internal Server

  • Persistent Chat/MUCs with Jabber 9.7 on CUCM9.1/CUPS9.1

    Hello All,
I'm testing Jabber 9.7 internally on a CUCM9.1/CUPS9.1 deployment, in hopes of using persistent chat rooms.
Currently, I have working MUC rooms with 3rd party chat clients, but I think there's a configuration option missing from CUCM or CUPS that's preventing me from using them in Jabber for Windows. From Pidgin, I'm able to join a MUC, and invite another user to that persistent MUC -- however, if a Jabber user tries to invite another Jabber user to that MUC, the invited user will recieve a message: "You have been invited to a chat room. However, Cisco Jabber is not configured for chat room services. Contact your administrator". I can't find it in the documentation anywhere, but I have a feeling if I were running CUCM10/CUPS10, I'd have an option (probably on the CSF) to enable said "Chat Room Services".
Can anyone out there confirm or deny this? If you have a CUCM10 deployment, and it does have this option, can you let me know what actually gets added to the jabberconfig xml file?
    Thanks!

    Hi famcbwolfe,
I have the same issue, on the same CUCM and CUPS versions.
Was you able to get any further? I too fear that we will need to migration 10.5.
    Thanks in advance,
    Ed

  • How do you join a jabber chat room with a password?

In the latest released version of Messages is it possible to join a Jabber/XMPP chat room that requires a password?

    Hi,
To be perfectly honest I don't know the answer.
I have never tried to join that type of Chatroom.
I suspect though that it cannot be done in iChat or Messages.
There is no place to add a Password and I have never seen a Pop up

  • Defined Groups for Cisco Jabber Group Chat

I dont think it is possible based upon this document but wondering if anyone knew any secrets out there. Is it possible to create predefined groups in Jabber for Windows preferably as defined in Active Directory or on the client side? We want to have chat groups automatically created for Sales, Engineering, etc. so users dont have to add other chat recipients users manually and can reach any engineering team member without knowing who is actually part of the engineering team for example.

    Hi,
Jabber for Windows 9.7 supports Persistent Chat end user participation.
Our next Release, 10.5 will add Room Administration and Moderator features, including room creation.
    Persistent Chat Rooms
Users in your organization can use persistent chat rooms to share ideas and information in a chat room. The chat rooms look like group chats, except that the chat rooms stay active even after participants leave the room. When participants come back to the room, they can scroll back to read the messages that they missed.
Participants can manage their chat rooms by browsing the existing rooms and joining open rooms, or being added to a room by an administrator. When they are in the chat rooms, participants can create mentions for other users, which notifies the mentioned user if they are a member of the room. They can also search chat rooms for particular keywords or senders by creating filters.
Administrator tasks include creating, configuring, and deleting chat rooms, and adding or removing users from chat rooms. In this release, chat room administration and moderation must be performed with a client that supports persistent chat room administration. Cisco Jabber for Windows will provide administrative capabilities in a future release.
Cisco Unified Communications Manager IM and Presence Version 10 is a software prerequisite for persistent chat rooms.
For end user information about persistent chat rooms, see the chapter on Chats in the Advanced Feature Guide.
For administrator information about enabling persistent chat rooms, see the Installation and Configuration Guide and the Server Setup Guide.

  • File Transfers in Chat Rooms?

We're running OS X Server 10.8.3. Is there any known way to have the ability to transfer files inside of a Chat Room? I find it mind-numbing that this isn't possible. We cannot use the chat room feature at all without this. Does anyone know of a way to get it to work or are we stuck now having to look for a third party chat room product?
    thanks,
    Ben

I'm not sure either of you understood my question. I'll try to make it more clear, in case anyone else has any ideas or feedback that could help:
We are using Mac OS X Server, 10.8.3. We are using the "Messages Server" service. When using a "persistent chat room" -- one of the supposed features of OS X Server. From http://www.apple.com/osx/server/features/#communication ...
"Messages Server brings the collaborative power of instant messaging to your organization. Now workgroups can transfer files securely, share group messages, conduct audio conferences, even broadcast a presentation, movie, or photo slideshow to other Messages users running OS X."
And from the OS X Server product overview PDF, pg. 18...
    Group Collaboration Made Easy
Messages Server works with OS X to automatically populate users’ buddy lists with
members of the groups to which they belong, so it’s easy for them to start communicating. And thanks to store-and-forward functionality, Messages Server allows users
to send messages to buddies who are online, combining the advantages of instant
    messaging and email.
Messages users can request Messages Server to create and host a persistent chat
room. Perfect for virtual-team scenarios, project-specific discussions, and real-time,
blow-by-blow updates, the chat room allows individuals to join at any time, leave
when they need to—even log out and shut down—and still come back to review
all communications from the time the chat room opened.
Here's the problem I'm perplexed by:
File transfers work just fine when doing 1-to-1 chats. However, in a "Chat Room", they do not work at all.
I realize that this may be "just how it is" but I was wondering if anyone had any knowledge of a way to make it possible. Seems like a ridiculous limitation, and one that makes the entire (otherwise useful) feature of "persistent chat rooms" all but moot for us.
    thanks,
    Ben

  • How to find list of all managers & members of a chat room?

    Hi,
Is there any way we can list all allowed managers and members of a persistent chat room?
I tried this command "get-cspersistentchatroom" but it won't give us full list.
    BR,
    Ajit

BTW, the default for that $FormatEnumerationLimit = 4 .... so, by default, that command will only return 4 results per property.   So, if you do the $FormatEnumerationLimit =-1 in your session - it should affect all of the get commands that you
run in the session.    The "-1" is 'unlimited'.

  • Lync 2013 blank window when trying to change Persistent Chat notification options

I'm trying to figure out an issue that seems to be affecting a lot of our users.  The majority of our users are using the Lync 2013 Basic client.  For some people when they are in a Persistent chat room and they go under the options for that room
and click on Change Notification Settings the window that opens up will be completely blank.  For other users it works perfectly fine for the same rooms, and for the ones broken it doesn't seem to work correctly for any room.  Has anyone seen this
before or have any ideas what might be causing it?

    Hi,
From your description above, it may a Lync client issue.
You can try to do the following things:
    1. Delete Lync client, then also delete Lync User Profile, Registry, and certificate. The Registry Path is:HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Office\15.0\Lync\[email protected]
    2. Install the latest version of Lync 2013 client.
    3. Perform Clean Boot to avoid third party programs’ affect, check if the issue happen again in Clean Boot Mode. Here is the link of How to use Clean Boot:

  • Setting up Chat Room with Jabber

I am trying to create a chat room for multiple users all using a Jabber (gmail) account within ichat.  Is there a special naming protocol to creating a chat room or do you need to create an address somewhere before joining this chat room?
I have no problem doing it with my .me account but for work everyone is on gmail so we ideally be able to use the Jabber accounts for group chats.
I did mange to "create" one called [email protected] (our domain) but when I tried to join I get the grey spinning wheel and don't get any further.
Clearly I'm missing something so any help would be appreciated!
    Thanks,
    Sarah

    Hi,
GoogleTalk is supposed to allow group chats.
These tend to be called "Conferences" on most Jabber servers.
Most Jabber servers have a section of additional itme your can "register" for and Login to.
However to do this takes a third party app like Psi.
This can then do "Service Discovery" on the server in question and show what features you can sign up for.
These can include "Transports" that allow you to add Buddies from different services and Conference calls.
Having said that if you do Service Discovery on GoogleTalk you find nothing
Many apps also presume the server name is the last part of your user ID and for Google with it's @gmail.com and @googlemail.com this does not work properly in some of these apps.
This page has Instructions for how to set up a Transport to MSN using Psi and you can see the Service Discovery panel.
Essentially a room has to be given a Name and this is coupled with the Jabber server name it is on so that it looks something like this:-
    [email protected]
The room "ralph" is on the conference server at the jabber.org.uk server.
Substituting [email protected] does not seem to work as a room name.
It may pay to start from a  Web Browser login and see if a room name becomes apparent that way.
    Edit
The last two "links" I have tried to remove the Links but they keep get added back

  • Persistent Chat (Lync Server 2013) with Lync 2010 Group Chat

I have successfully deployed Lync Server 2013 and both 2013 and 2010 desktop clients connect and function as expected.
The problem is with Persistent Chat. It works perfectly with the 2013 desktop client but - whilst 2010 Group Chat connects - I receive the error message "The [LOGON_DOMAIN] is not available". No chat rooms are available and I am unable to search.
I have been unable to locate anything on the web which discusses the problem.
I do not know whether this makes a difference but the 2010 clients use terminals rather than dedicated workstations.
Can anyone shed any light on what the problem may be?

Have you created a CsPersistentChatEndpoint to allow the Group Chat client (2010) to connect to Persistent
Chat server? Please take a look at: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204901.aspx

  • Getting the Lync 2010 client to use 2013 Persistent Chat

We are migrating to Lync 2013 from 2010 and just testing the 2013 environment right now with a few users. Only thing left I need to configure is getting the Lync 2010 client to connect to the 2013 Persistent Chat server. Most of our users are Windows XP
so they can only use the 2010 client.
We did not have Group Chat prior to this so Persistent Chat is new to everyone. I created the Persistent Chat Endpoint in Lync 2013 per the article
    http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/library/jj204901.aspx but now what.
The article tells you how to create the endpoint but that's it. What else is needed. Does a Lync user in 2013 need to exist that matches the SIP addresses in the command? The icon for Persistent Chat is not showing up in the Lync 2010 client so something
    is missing.

You still need this endpoint, as long you will Need Lync 2010 Chat clients. Without this endpoint, you will be able to login but could not find any chat rooms.
For login you use your normal Lync credential. Lync Chat server has not deployed before.
Have you  test to use the Pchat with this user on a Lync 2013 client?

  • Has anyone seen any issues with persistent Chat in the Skype for Business Technical Preview client? No Messages dispalyed.

    Hi all,
We are testing out the new Skype for Business technical preview client
with Lync 2013 and although we're not really users of Persistent Chat, I wanted to install this feature too so I added a server pool just to check things out.
I can post and even search the history (which shows results), but apart from seeing my immediate post, when I close the room a re-enter I see nothing. I get a notifications that there are new posts, but clicking "Read" button also does nothing.
We're off for Easter and I wont have access to another Lync 2013 client until we return, so I'm not sure if there is just something odd with my installation.
I would be interesting to see if other are having this issue.

  • Group Chat 2007 to Lync Persistent Chat 2013

Ok I have migrated the rooms over from OCS 2007 R2 Group Chat to Lync 2013 Persistent Chat server successfully. However I need to copy the attachments over and other data. I hope this is an easy question because Microsoft does not actually say where to copy
