Jabber - Search for phone Numbers (extensions)

Hi there,
as on the old Cisco Personal Communicator there was a possibillity to search for extension numbers on the search field. If I enter an extension number on the Jabber Client on Windows, there is no Name and Picture shown from this employee. For example, if you type in 1234 in the field it just says "call 1234" but I want so find the employee which extension is 1234.
On the jabber-config.xml I already tryed the UDS and EDI method.
So I'm just asking if there is a general problem with this function or if this is just an configuration issue. If it would help, I'll post the jabber-config.xml.

Currently this is not supported. It is tententively planned for 9.4 which has no current release date.

I am using the search field inside the addressbook.app to type in a telephon number of an existing contact.
Unfortunately no results are shown for contacts which having the number.
Ist it possible to search for telephon numbers of my contacts in the addressbook.app?

I'm able to search for phone numbers successfully while in the Address Book. I also used Spotlight outside of the Address Book to retrieve the information Perhaps you need to rebuild your index.

Is there a way to use hyperlinks for phone numbers in keynote?

Hey all,
does anyone know if it is possibile to export phone numbers as hyperlinks in keynote (export format: pdf), so that my phone directly dials the number if I open the pdf and click on it. In other programs I can use "tel:+countrycodeandphonenumber" instead of the url in the hyperlink setup, but unfortunately that does not seem to work with keynote.

Keynote provides for hyperlinks to slides in the currently used presentation, other Keynote files, web pages and to launch a pre-addressed email message. All other hyperlinks are prevented. Not sure why you would want to use a slide presentation application for such a task during a slide show.

Searching for specific file extensions etc?

Is there a way to search for just, say: .jpegs or even 'Folder'?
An 'advanced' search if you will?
I know I can search and get all 'kinds'; .jpegs, folders, mail messages, .doc and then click on Kind and get them grouped.
BUT, can I just search for .jpegs etc on my computer??

Create a Smart Folder.
In the Finder, do +File > New Smart Folder+
In the grey area at the top of the Smart Folder window, click +This Mac,+ and Filename (on the left) and then the "+" sign on the right
In the new row that opens, click the dropdown box on the left and select +File Extension.+
Enter .jpg in the box after the word "is"
You will get a listing of all the .jpg files on your Mac
If you want to save the Smart Folder for ongoing use, click the Save button in the upper right corner, give your folder a name & location, then click Save

Is there a FM imbedded link used for phone numbers that in a pdf file activates the number on a smart phone?

When I use the URL hypertext function and type in mailto:<email address> and save it as a pdf. When bringing the pdf up in a smart phone and tapping on the link, it will bring up email to that person. Is there a FrameMaker version that also does this for a phone number and what is the text that needs to be typed in? Any assistance would be greatly appreciated!!!

What happens when you use Marker Type: [Hypertext]
and a URI of form:

In a quick test, this survives to PDF as hypertext, gets handed to my default browser, which (being a desktop machine) throws a dialog saying, in effect "Just what am I supposed to do with this? I'm not a phone you know." My phone, on the other hand has two PDF readers (Kindle and some shovelware office ap), neither of which appear to even notice the URL (which I take to be not FM's fault).
The hand-off to email is not something that FM (or Acrobat) does per se. As far as I know PDF readers merely hand the URI to the host operating system. If the host knows what a "tel:" scheme name is supposed to do, it gets done. For a more or less complete list of scheme names, see the wiki page.
Be sure to use fully qualified international dialing numbers.
And be sure to avoid mistake 0 of FM hypertext markers: in addition to inserting the marker, it has to be within the scope of a unique Character Format applied to the text string to be made active. This tag doesn't even have to apply any visible effects, but it does have to be there, as it's how FM determines the boundaries of the hyper region. A Character Format set to Family:Default ¶ Format (and all else blank or As-Is), named "URI", would suffice.

Searching for phone carrier

I work in a building with very poor reception for my phone. My partner who sits across from me also has an iphone. We have both noticed in the last while that when we lose reception it sometimes won't come back on it's own once we are in a place that has good reception. We have both found that we need to power down the phone and then power up again to get the reception to come back otherwise it just continues to read "searching" where the carrier is displayed. My son who also has an iphone has reported similar findings on occasion when he happens to lose reception. It's hard for me to say how recent this is ... but I would certainly say it's since the last update. Anyone else out there noticed this?

I too have this issue. And my work building has poor reception as well. A lot of my co-workers have the iPhone and their signal seems fine where mine is sometimes either Searching.... or on E (Edge) service. If I reboot the phone, it seems to go back to a normal signal on par with the other iPhones my co-workers have until it happens again. I called Apple support tonight with a few questions and this was something I mentioned. The rep suggested that I do a hard reset and/or go to *Settings>General>Reset>Reset Network Settings*. I did what I thought was a hard reset (pressing both the home and power buttons at the same time), but it acted the same as a regular turning off of the phone, so I don't know if that worked. I haven't tried the other option yet. I'm curious to know if this is common or a Hardware/software issue?
It seems to have the issue mostly when I am at work. The area is a weird when it comes to cell service signal. Even for Verizon service. I even get this weird tone from my phone when calling out in the area until I get about a 1/2 mile or so away. There isn't anything unusual in the area to cause interference that I know of, but it's a wooded area, so there may be something around that I can't see.
I guess my biggest concern is why is my iPhone having signal issues when others seem to be fine.

Alright, since I've converted to iCloud, I'm now adding new contacts in there. However... before I was adding phone numbers through Address Book on my Macbook (that ended up creating a conflict with iCloud so I'm now using iCloud). What I want to know is... in address book you can set up a "default template" for your contacts (to include spouses, children, multiple addresses, phone numbers etc) I have created several labels for phone numbers, so I know which carrier they are since most of my contacts have 2-4 cell phones (all different carriers). Anyways, in address book I have for example ATT as the primary one on the list and then example: Verizon, Sprint, Tmobile & last the home phone). I have it set in that way, so even if someone only has ATT & Sprint, ATT will be at the top. Since I switched to iCloud (the carriers are all jumbled around in the contact and the reason I had placed them in a specific order is because I have one or two of those first carriers). Please let me know if you know how to change this in iCloud? Thanks!!!

Fair enough.
I started doing this before unlimited data and emails on phones was a common commodity, on my Samsung Blackjack.
I then continued it due to its convenience. My only counter argument is this:
Even when emails are set to immediately push, I am always notified earlier by this forwarding message (sometimes by several minutes/hours due to the fact that it is not dependent on my being connected to 4G or wifi to receive it.
Also, to contradict snozdop's point that both methods use data and battery, I say this - when I use the forwarding method, the information comes in a pure text format and therefore uses considerably less information than an HTML and CSS rich email, with embedded images and such -also, unlimited text messages aids curve costs.
I will, however, give this method a go. In any case, a solution to my original question would still be greatly appreciated.

IPhone says searching for service after ios 7.1.1 update! HELP!

I updated my iPhone 5c to the iOS 7.1.1 last night and didn't think I would have any problems. I went to bed and woke up this morning with my phone in the top left corner saying "Searching..." and the the wifi symbol.
I went to check my setting to see if my data was off, but when I went into the settings app and clicked the tab labed "Celluar" the app crashed and took me back to the home screen. It does this everytime I try and go into that tab! So, I have no idea what it going on with my phone! I can't make calls, send texts through my phone number (I can still send iMessages when connected to wifi), the screen glitches and moves when I go into apps, the battery life is now terrible and drains really fast. Everything about my phone was perfectly fine until I updated it to the iOS 7.1.1, so I believe something must have went wrong when it was updating.
Overall these are my main problems:
-iPhone is "Searching" for phone service (which means I have no service so no calls or texts can be sent or recieved)
-Cellular tab in settings crashes
-Battery drains over 2x faster than normal
-Screen seems to glitch or move when I open apps

If you are having multiple issues with your iPhone after a recent update, your best course of action may be to back up your content to iTunes, restore the phone to factory settings, then test to see if the issues persist in its default config before bringing back your content from the backup. Retain starting zero in phone numbers ADF

Hi All,
I have a phone number field in adf form. Each phone number is defined as a number datatype in the entity objects. When user enters phone number value like 03423535325 it is automatically trimmed to 3423535325. Pelase suggest how do I retain the starting zero.

Phone numbers are not, repeat not numbers.
They are strings. Precisely for the reason that you state. A leading zero is meaningless on a number, but very meaningful on a string. You don't do arithmetic or math on phone numbers - they are not numbers.
So, my solution: use the correct data type.
Surprisingly Googling for "Phone numbers are not numbers" (with the quotes) returns some hits (not that I knew this before).

Default country code for phone

Hi,
When editing new phones, the sistems suggest me the country code for united states, however i have my locale to spanish. How can i make the system to suggest a default country code for phone numbers (example uruguay)?
How can i do a mass update to change the country code? is there anyway to do a mass update for more than 50 records?

thanks bob, is there any way to make the the system to automatically enters a country code for my country Uruguay? there is no locale for uruguay, so when i choose locale spanish spain or spanish mexico it automatically adds the country code for spain or mexico.

I try to open iPhoto and it asks what library file I want to use. I have Find Any File application that someone once gave me the "magic" file to search for, but I do not remember the file

I had this problem before and someone gave me a "magic" filename to search for using my Find Any File application, but I cannot remember the file name. Is it iPhoto6-something?

Don't know how to determine my OS
To determine your OS click on the apple in the upper left corner of your screen and click "About this Mac". The "About" panel will tell you all about your Mac.
On my mac (OS 10.7.3) I can search for iPhoto Libraries like this:
Select my Home Folder in the Finder
Type in ⌘-F to activate a search
Set the "Search" to "This Mac"
Set the "Kind" selector to "Other" and enter "iPhoto Library" into the search field.
This should reveal all iPhoto Libraries on your Mac.
With "Find any File" you could search for the ".iPhoto"-extension.

Outlook Searches for additional mailboxes return irrelevant results

Hi Guys,
I'm running exchange 2010 and have recently installed outlook 2013 pro on a coupla workstations.
I have 2 users who share a ridiculously large mailbox (25GB) and have it configured as an additional mailbox with caching turned off (they run out of memory if they try to cache it as it has a massive amount of folders and MAPI objects (more than 1000))
If I try to use the instant search function to search for a number, for example 12345678901, it will return a large number of completely irrelevant results.
I get the same when I enclose the search in quotes e.g "12345678901" however, if a letter is added like in a reference number, say V3077897P it will find only the relevant information and highlight it within the email.
I've checked all attachments and the entire body of the emails that are returned and can't find my original search term in them anywhere!
As we're a telecoms company my users really need the ability to search for telephone numbers on a regular basis for past correspondence.
Unfortunately this is a system I've inherited and there is little to no chance of changing the working practices to having archive PST files for such a large amount of email.
The problem exists with a couple of machines including a new build so I think I can rule out the client (I've re-indexed, recreated the outlook profile and done everything else I can think of.)
I have also reset the search index catalog on the server using the built in ResetSearchIndex script within exchange 2010 to no avail.
Does anybody have any ideas on where I can go from here?

Do you have any add-in integrated into Outlook? Please test this issue again within Outlook safe mode to determine if a problematic add-in is the cause. To do this, press Windows key + R to open the Run command, type
outlook.exe /safe and press Enter.
Is the additional mailbox on Exchange 2010? This issue may also occur if Exchange Search is disabled on Exchange Server. Please try to enable the Exchange Search and then check the issue again. See:

Multi Part Phone Numbers

I know you can add "pauses" for phone numbers, but how do you create a "hard" stop and then enter additional prompts, automatically, when asked?

Thanks Barry--I appreciate your response. I have the User Guide and have read everything I could in it. I should not have used the word "links" since it is not really a hyperlink per se, and let me see if I can explain it better.
In Google Docs, I have a spreadsheet that has names and phone numbers (and other info). When I open this on my iPhone through the browser connected to Google, it recognizes the phone numbers (they are in blue and underlined like a hyperlink) and you can select it and call the number (a window pops up with the number and either "cancel" or "call").
What I want to do is not have to connect to Google Docs to do this. When I load the Excel spreadsheet with the same information onto my iDisk, it works. I can't edit anything obviously, but the phone numbers appear the same and you can directly dial. So it works with Excel.
However I cannot get a Numbers spreadsheet to do this. I thought it had something to do with the fact that in Excel there is a way to format the cell as a "phone number," but the cells aren't even formatted this way. The are "General."It seems to me the equivalent of this in Numbers is "Automatic" but that doesn't work. Formatting the cell as "text" doesn't work, and doing a Custom format in phone number format doesn't work (unless I did it wrong).
I hope that explains it better. Any ideas/thoughts are appreciated! I really like using Numbers but it seems weird that this doesn't work.
