Jabber users in arch community

I wonder if there are people that use the jabber on here? I know many people use IRC, but would also like to extend my contacts in jabber.org!
And if you do not have an acc on jabber, tell me why?

btw...
since the topic has received so many replys wanted to know if the community has some room to some jabber server xD
perhaps nothing can surpass the 800 + online IRC channel, but I do not think something bad or too expensive to create a more "new" media using a new technology?
Heh, yeah, GTalk uses Jabber AND XMPP, and Jabber is XMPP. XMPP is just a transmission protocol, like HTTP, except it uses XML messages. Jabber uses XML messages to send chat messages, online status notifications, etc, to each server/user. Also, there is some voice and video capabilities. XMPP also allows much greater possibilities. It's a... "dumb" protocol, I guess? It doesn't care about the content you use. It just takes a XML, sends it to the server, and is done with it. Jabber is the poster child, but you can use XMPP for other things, like a pub/sub model. (Which Jabber uses as well... hah)
There was a previous topic, can't find it now, that also sparked interest in a Jabber/Arch community, they even created a MUC (Multi-User Chatroom). I don't know what happened to it after that. To be honest, if you want to take on the IRC channel, good luck.

  • Jabber cannot do voice calls to PSTN or to other jabber user

    Hi,
I'm trying to troubleshoot why jabber for windows 9.7.2 is not able to establish calls to PSTN dialed by DN and to other jabber user called by URI, not DN.
We have CUCM 10 with IM and Presence 10. IM and Presence is newly installed. I have created 2 x Cisco Unified Client Services Framework devices for 2 users. Users are able to connect through jabber for windows, IM, do direct DN-to-DN calls (including video), but not able to call outside to PSTN and by URI to other users.
    Cases:
    - jabber for windows - call DN to DN between internal users - working with video
    - jabber for windows - call DN to PSTN through SIP-to-SIP connection (SIP trunk to GW, SIP trunk from GW to ISP) - not working CUCM returning me Q.850 cause 65 to jabber immediately when other side pick up phone, even jabber hear ringing with music from ISP side. - Cause: 65(0x41)[Bearer capability not implemented]
    - jabber for windows - in search field I search for second user, I can see presence, when I click call button, call is immediately dropped - don't know reason still not troubleshooted.
communication between GW 2801 and ISP is OK, they are acknowledge codec and everything is fine.
EDIT: I tried to connect jabber for windows directly to CUCM TFTP servers without IM and Presense server. I have same behavior, when outgoing call is picked up it is immediately dropped by CUCM and send Q.850 cause 65 to jabber.
EDIT2: any other SIP device configured same way as jabber CSF is working. just jabber not.
EDIT3: when I selected "Media Termination Point required" on jabber device in CUCM, then voice is working normally. But if possible I do not want this and make voice without MTP. How?
    THanks

I found it, i have enabled "Allow Presentation Sharing using BFCP" on SIP profile assigned to trunk pointing to voice gateway. This causes that SDP from gateway didn't come.

  • UK Arch Community gathering momentum

    Prelude
As everyone knows, the British (claim to have) invented everything. From Marmite to Worcestershire sauce, to radar and gravity. We even invented the toilet. Our (stereotypical) perception of ourselves is of a nation of intrepid engineers and scientists who spend their lives in the garden shed inventing the modern world.
British people love nothing more than fiddling with things. We're an island of tinkerers, which is probably why Arch Linux appeals to us. Every time an update breaks something, we put the kettle on, roll up our sleeves and get stuck in.
    Join our community
The userbase of UK Arch Linux users is steadilly growing. We aim to foster a community focused on supporting these users, the exchange of information relating to Arch Linux and, of course, enjoying the company of likeminded Archies.
So if you're an Arch Linux user and you're loosely affiliated with the UK, why not come join us? In order to comunicate with other members a forum (on our very shiny website!) and Freenode channel have been set up. All are welcome.
    Shiny website: www.archlinux.org.uk
    IRC: #archlinux.org.uk on Freenode
Although no formal UK Arch events have been organised yet, I believe a group of org.uk people are going to this year's Oggcamp in Liverpool (1st-2nd May).
    See you there!

The Arch community is international and nationality shouldn't matter here. I like the fact that we are all brought together from around the world by a common interest. I see a purpose for other forums based on language, and even for organizing local events, but I wouldn't want to see the community sectioned off by nationality and we definitely don't need to foster sentiments of superiority based on such, even if it is mostly in jest.

I'm sorry, I didn't mean to offend! The prelude was meant purely as a bit of light humor, and perhaps as a way of getting people to read the post, genuinely no harm or offence intended.
We have no intention to segregate the Arch community. The aim of the website/forums/channel is to bring people together and make friends with Arch users around the UK. It's not some secret club for UK people, it's a place for friendships and free software collaboration to grow.
Jesting aside, there are far, far worse British inventions than ASBOs, the concentration camp being one sobering example.

  • Audio cuts off then video moments later for Jabber users when content is shared during a multipoint VC

If a presentation* is being shown from a VC end point/or by Jabber, the audio cuts off, then the video of the Jabber user freezes. The call has not ended on our end we can still hear and see them. A few moments later their video on our end freezes and the audio is lost. The call is finally terminated a few moments after.
When this happens to the Jabber participant they either have to restart Jabber or in some case have to reboot their PC
The Jabber participant can be cut off from their class 2 to 3 times  throughout the duration of the class
This happens over all the MCU\blades, so doesn’t  appear to be blade specific
Only appears to happen in multi –point conferences not in point to point calls
*Presentation: This can be anything from a word document, to a PowerPoint presentation to a web browser
    The warning they receive says:
The application has encountered a terminal problem.
    Location:
    Message: assertion failed. (link_ret = = GST_PAD_LINK_OK)
    Domain: <no domain>

Is this problem specific to Jabber clients, or Jabber Guest? If the former, you'll have better luck over on the Jabber client forum:

I have a 2010 Macbook Pro and am a very new user to Mac community only started to use this PC a few weeks ago.
My Mac is just hanging and I am unable to shut it down or do anything at all.  I left it for 2.5 days hoping the battery will run flat but it is not working. Pls help! I am desperate. Tx

In order to resolve the issue if it occurs again, more info would be helpful as to what occurred prior to the "hang." One potential fix would be to try a Safe Boot:
After the Mac is completely shut down, push the power button and immediately after the startup tone, hold down the Shift key. The Shift key should be held as soon as possible after the startup tone but not before.
Release the Shift key when you see the gray Apple icon and the progress indicator (looks like a spinning gear).
There should be a message that says "SafeBoot." After the Mac is completely booted, try restarting and see if the issue is gone.

  • User Type (Dialog , Communication etc) can impact on SAP User Licensing

    Dear Expert,
The User Type (Dialog, Communication, System etc) can impact on SAP User Licensing.
Suppose if I craete a user type other than DIALOG such as SYSTEM or COMMUNICATION etc; will this be counted as License User. Or only DIALOG users are paid license users.
    Kindly advice.
    Regards
    AJ

    Thanks Uday and Nagendra...
    Dear Nagendra,
with reference to below sentense from your referred link
    " Consolidating Contractual User Types
    Use
With this procedure, you consolidate the contractual user types of the individual users. The LAW takes account of the fact that certain contractual user types are already contained in others. In this way, license costs are only incurred for the inclusive user types of the user."
When I go User Classification Display screen, under Contractual User Type column all my 150 users are marked "Operational" but for those which I defined as System / Communication User are defined any contractual user type.
    What does it mean??
Thanks in advance for your help.

  • See presence state of non-jabber user

    Hi all,
probably stupid question but : can you see the presence state of a (IM&P enabled) user that only has an IP phone and no Jabber client? Running UCM/IMP release 9.1.2
I would think so, as UCM should publish presence state of that user phone line,  but  I can NOT see the presence state for these users in Jabber :S
The in/out security ACL on IM&P server has the IP address of UCM servers listed, so it accepts PUBLISH from them.
The user without Jabber is enabled for IM&P in the UCM enduser pages
The phone line appearance is associated to the user
For Jabber users, I can see physical phone presence state(on/offhoook)
    Any feedback is appreciated !

    Hi,
SM12 is for displaying and deleting locks. It won't help to check the logon status of non-dialog users. My doubt is whether non-dialog users have specific logon status or not.

  • Jabber User Always Available

We have a weird situation where one Jabber user is always Available, even when they are logged out. We are running CUPS version 8.6.4.10000-28 and when the user logs out the CUPS server shows them as logged out.
The user has 3 devices attached to them, a 7942 phone, a Softphone and an Extension Mobility profile. We've made sure to log him out of Extension moblity, softphone and physical phone but he still shows as available.
    Any help is appreciated.

We had the same problem too. We are using CUCM 8.6.2.24901-1 with CUPS 8.6.5.13900-2 and Jabber for Windows 9.7.2 Build 18938.
What seems to help was to reassign the license capabilities for the user under CUCM / System / Licensing / Capabilities Assignment. After disabling both licenses for "Enable CUP" and "Enable CUPC" and saving, then activating both again, saving and restarting Cisco Tftp Service (CUCM / Cisco Unified Serviceability / Tools / Control Center - Feature Services) the user doesn't come back as "available" user.
Maybe this workaround could be the solution for that problem.

  • Reputation Score Changes when users leaves a community

A strange behavior when user leaves a community in sharepoint 2013
For eg : Suppose the reputation score of user is 20 before he is leaving a community.Once he leaves the community his score becomes -21.Ok minus is fine.but when a user joins back it is still 21.
This means a user can join and leave a community any no of times and increase his reputation score. I think this is a bug

I agree it seems to be a BUG

  • New Jabber user cannot see (only) one of the added buddies

Running ichat server, just a handful of OD users. OD is on the same machine as Ichat server. Nothing is limiting the use of Ichat by any of the OD users. Server G5 10.4.9, Clients managed Intel Imacs 10.4.9
    Added a new user.
New user can add buddies in the Jabber List.
New user can see all but 1 of them in the List.
One of the buddies, lets say UserX, can see the new user in her Jabber List.
No matter what we have tried from within Ichat the new user cannot see UserX.
Both users are members of the same groups and have matching access abilities.
Any suggestions. Thanks for looking at this.

New user can see all but 1 of them in the List.
If I understand it this correctly, 'new user' can see all other buddies except one. And all the other users can see this buddy.
Lets call the new user "userX" and the one they cannot see "userY" and lets call your ichat server "jabber.myserver.com"
The configuration files for users buddylist is stored in the spool di rectorywhich you can find at /var/jabber/spool/. In there you will find a directory the matches the name of your ichat server. For me that is jabber.clayford.com. In this directory you will find one xml file for eash user of ichat server. Their file name is the OD logon name for the server.
Stop the ichat server service and make back up of any files you edit before you start.
Open the file for "userX.xml" In this file you will see some xml code that starts <item jid='[email protected]' subscription='xxxxxx'>. there will be a number of them, one for each buddy.
Mke sure the xxxxxx is the word 'both' [with the quotes] and if the text ask='subscribe' exists in that line before the >,remove it. So that definition should now be: <item jid='[email protected]' subscription='both'>.
Save the file and now open the file userY.xml and check that the item <item jid='[email protected]' subscription='both'> exists.
Restart the ichat server and the problem should be fixed...

  • Jabber user pictures: how?

I've searched the archives but found nothing, so I'll ask here: Is there a way from within a jabber session in iChat to have my buddies' pictures displayed? For everyone in the room, whether or not they are in my buddy list, all I see are their names and the icon is a greyed-out "shadow" user with a question mark.
For many of my buddies I've set the picture icon in the settings to override the picture they would send me, but I still just see the phantom question mark icon for everyone.
    Thanks!
    Marty

    Hi goalie81,
Umm it's a long time since I did this.
Have you tried adding the Pictures to their entry in the Address Book or the Address Card in iChat (Use the Apple Key and i after highlightiing the Buddy) ?
I would try Gil Taylor from Table 2 who I believe is more up on this. http://www.ralphjohnsuk.dsl.pipex.com/ContactTesters.html

  • Defaulting user type to Communication in SU01

    Hi,
When we create users, we would like the USER TYPE field on the Logon Data tab of <b>SU01</b> to be defaulted to <b>'Communication'</b>. currently it gets defaulted to <b>Dialog</b>. 90% of our users are Communication. Is there a way to default this field to Communication instead of Dialog.
I couldn't find any suitable user exit or BADI which i can use. If this can be achived via customising or some system profile paramater it would be great.
    Help will be appriciated.
    Thanks

Have you tried with User Mass Maintainance .. SU10?
    Thanks.

  • Drop user - end of communication channel

I have exactly the same problem and it's driving me nuts. The patchset installation to 9.2.0.1 to 9.2.0.2 seems to have caused this.
    SQL> drop user dwdemo;
    ERROR:

Current SQL statement for this session:

This also happens when I reconcile a java class object
    Can anyone help ?

  • Jabber user remains logged in

    10.6 Server: iChat Service running.
User logged in once from their MBP (10.6) successfully, but no matter whether they actively log out from iChat, or just close the lid and take it with them, they remain logged into the server and appear as present to the other users, which causes some issues since they're not really. On a service start/stop they disappear, but immediately come back online, even though they are not.
When they do show back up and log in, they do so successfully, but they do not receive the messages sent in their absence.
How can I manually disconnect that user from the server and restore them to working order so they come and go as the other users do?

    Hi Michael,
One of our clients reported the same issue to us recently, also running CUP version 8.6.4.11900-1.
This was logged with TAC and it seems we are hitting Bug ID "CSCub94611 - Blank Cisco jabber Summary page"
Details of this bug are not currently available to the public.
Issue is fixed in CUP version 9.1.1.10000-8.
The Cisco engineer also provided a CLI command to view how many users are logged in.
Command is: show perf query counter "Cisco XCP CM" "CmConnectedSockets"

  • Slackware users on Arch

We've had a fair number of posts comparing Arch to other distros (Gentoo and Debian come to mind from recent threads).
Here is a discussion from the Slackware forum on LinuxQuestions, where Slack users voice their opinion on Arch Linux:
    http://www.linuxquestions.org/questions … did=385992
What is interesting is that quite a few of those users kind of see Arch as a better alternative.
Sorry if this is a repost.

I'm just one of those Slackware refugees.
I really liked Slackware (well - I still like it!) - it was simple, easy to use, stable, and it's philosophy was good ("Slackware - all that you need, nothing you don't.").
But the picture wasn't so pretty. The first problem was that I'm working on machines with P3 or P4 processors. While working on Slackware I was always thinking "What am I paying for, if the distro I use doesn't make use of it?". I like to compile some things by myself, but on Slackware I found it useless. Why should I bother with compile anything for my architecture, it all the rest of my system (all the shared libraries!) was compiled for the old i486?
Therefore I started to look for some alternatives. First I took a look at source-based distros, like Gentoo, Lunar and even LFS. But they weren't what I needed. I needed a distro, that would allow me to install binary packages and that would allow me to easily build such a packages from source. And this distro should be still easy to configure and to install. I definitely didn't want to bother with reading some long handbook.
And then someone told me about Arch. I was told, that Arch was a distro similar to Slackware (because it was simple), but compiled for i686. I tried it and I found it a very good distro for me.
All is compiled for i686 (and from my experience I can say that it's enough; I tried to compile for P3 or P4, but I wasn't able to notice any significant difference in performance), many binary packages are available (for now I have found anything I needed) and building my own binary packages is very easy with abs. The system is easy to install and to configure. And it works much faster than my old Slack used to work.
And there's such a wonderful map on the Arch Wiki!
