Jagged edges in vector in Illustrator cs6

Hello, I am new to Illustrator and I just atempted my first vector drawing.  The problem I have is that I finished all of the lines using the pen tool on all the outlines.  I saved it as an svgz file and then I selected all of the lines and converted it to a live paint object to add in color using the live paint bucket tool.  This all went well until at the end I noticed that along the outlines the color looked jagged along it.
Also I can see the outline of the pen tool when it intersects with other outlines with the pen tool.
In the previous version of the Image before I converted it to a live paint object it did not do this.
Above is before I converted it to a live paint object.
I would greatly appreciate any advice as I am very new to this and am very confused.

All monitors need to display content with pixels. You can't eliminate all aspects of a pixel display. Things should be smooth when printed, and increasing/decreasing the size of the objects won't change the pixels which you see due to the pixel display.

  • Jagged edges on vector art and fonts on R1900 using AI CS5 in OSX

    OS 10.6.4 (Mac Pro 2x2.4 GHz Quad-Core Intel Xeon, 12GB ram 1066 MHz DDR3)
Problem with the R1900 Printer and AI CS5
I have been using the same printer with CS4 without any trouble whatsoever for at least 5yrs. Beautiful quality prints without so much as itch and great color control...
In October I finally made the switch to CS5 and my printing capability goes to hell.
Quality printing straight from AI to a non-postcript inkjet printer such as the R1900 doesn't seem to be an option anymore...
I get jagged edges on vector art and fonts. I do graphic arts/logos/prints and this is a huge issue...!
Apparently I have to save my AI files as PDFs and print from there, but this poses extra steps, troubles in sizing, colors, page set up...
I mean nothing beats being able to print direct from AI... I cannot understand what the problem is all of a sudden.
At home I have a late '06 Mac Pro running CS4 and printing successfully to a C88 epson inkjet printer under OSX 10.5
What is the matter, please help, this is cramping my style and performance???
    thank you

Ok this would not be a problem with 10.4.11 on a Power PV Mac but on an Intel Mac running 10.6.4 or running anything above 10.4.11 on any Mac you would need a postscript driver. Problem, there is no postscript driver for this model Printer this is actually a photo quality printer, that is what it does best.
So what to do the best one can do is to save the file as a pdf and print from Acrobat. There is no other way regardless of what one would like and expect.

  • Jagged edges on vector curves

When I create a vector shape (in this case a rectangle of about 600px wide and then use the pen tool to make a curved top) the curves are not smooth they look a little jagged/blurred - not as bad as hardline or feathered but not like I'd expect a vector curve. I am using 1px-soft with the edge anti-alias. I can get them to look slightly better by feathering 1px but I don't really want the blur of a 1px feather.
How can I get smooth vector curves in Fireworks?
    Thanks

Apparently it's an innate flaw in FW but I don't recall anyone ever addressing whether or not it will or can be fixed. Which is strange, considering FW is on its umpteenth release...

  • Illustrator CS6 to Powerpoint 2011 (Mac)

    Hi All,
Please help, I've been searching for hours trying to find a solution to this and can only find a patch for CS5!
How can you export vectors from Illustrator CS6 to PowerPoint allowing them to be editable in Powerpoint? I've tried every vector format (ai, eps, pdf, wmf, emf and on importing/pasting/paste specialing (which used to work in older versions of Illustrator) but it seems to either rasterize, or fill the bounding box. The shapes themselves are not editable in any form, colouring or otherwise.
    Please help!
    Thanks
    Pete

Old post, but seeing this for the first time…
Unfortunately, on the Mac side, it has not been possible (at least in PPT versions 2004 and up) to bring in vector objects (in any format) from Illustrator to PPT and turn it into an editable PPT shape. It will either just come in as if it were a PDF or as a raster image. There are two options to get around this:
    1) If you export the Illustrator graphic as an EMF (doesn't matter what version of Illustrator or whether Mac or Windows), then import that into a Windows version of PPT. Then ungroup and you'll have editable PPT graphics that you can recolor/stylize just like a PPT shape. You only need Windows for the import to PPT portion of this, and once you have it in a PPT file, you can move it over to Mac. Yet another example of MS shutting out a capability in the Mac version of Office!
    2) If you don't have access to a PC to do this, you can try OpenOffice (Mac) to import EMF files and break apart to create shapes. Then save as a PPT file and open in PPT. However, the resulting shapes I've seen from this method can turn out imperfect, especially if they were small vectors and you blow them up in size. So, okay for small icons, but if you need larger graphics, then method #1 is better.
Hopefully a better method than those two can be found.

  • Why is Illustrator CS6 slow when I try to modify anchors?

I am having some issues dealing with vectors in illustrator CS6. Every time I modify an anchor or handle on a path it takes illustrator a good second/second and a half to update the change. If I am working on normal view it shows the path being modified but its stroke is still in the original position and when I try to work on outline view it just takes that second to update.
    OS: Windows 7 pro. - 64bit

Any thoughts on why that is and how I can solve this problem?

  • Problem: Illustrator CS6 - print PostScript (fuzziness and blurring edges of vector objects)

    Hello,
Earlier to print to the printer Develop Ineo+ 451 used the program Illustrator CS3. In connection with the transition to Windows 7 (64bit), was bought by a new version of Illustrator CS6 64bit. Unfortunately, when printing from Illustrator CS6 (price lists, business cards, labels) on a PostScript printer were detected problems, which were not in previous versions of Illustrator CS3.
A comparison of the print quality of the two programs Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS6, made on a PostScript
The software used on the computers:
    1st PC: Windows XP SP2 (32bit), Adobe Illustrator CS3 (32bit), the driver Generic 50C-2SeriesPS v3.0.16.0 (32bit).
    2nd PC: Windows 7 SP1 (64bit), Adobe Illustrator CS6 (64bit), the driver Generic 50C-2SeriesPS v3.0.16.0 (64bit).
    Printer: Develop Ineo+ 451 (PostScript).
Drivers are available for download on the site www.chansi.ru
    link http://download6.konicaminolta.eu/develop/public/&&BDV&RU&sw&&&&&0&&&0&&0&&0
(to choose Product Ineo + 452, for download tested version of the printer driver).
Because after using the new version of the driver, the print quality was not satisfactory, then for the correctness of the comparison experiment, already used driver version 50C-2SeriesPS v3.0.16.0 has been selected.
When you print from the program Adobe Illustrator CS6, a printer PostScript, you can see fuzziness and blurring edges of vector objects, small text becomes fuzzy and difficult to read. If you print from a program Adobe Illustrator CS3 (using the same version of the driver), there are not such problems and the print quality is quite satisfactory.
The settings in the dialog box "Print" of Adobe Illustrator and the print settings in the dialog boxes of the PostScript printer driver of Develop Ineo+ 451, were chosen exactly the same for both versions of the programs Adobe Illustrator CS3 and Adobe Illustrator CS6 on both operating systems!!!

What's the explanation for the following sequence?
    1. Paste as Smart Object, at moment after pasting and before clicking the commit icon (no transform was made) in options bar. The object is rendered pixel-perfect.
    2. After the commit. The object is poorly rendered with gray pixels which should be white.
    3. Press Cmd+T for transform mode. The object is rendered pixel-perfect again.
    4. After canceling transform mode, the object is poorly rendered again.

  • Shapes Created in AI CS6 Have Jagged Edges

    Hi Everyone,
I have Illustrator CS6 and I've noticed something odd. Whenever I create shapes they have jagged edges. I've attached a screenshot so you can see this. I'm wondering if it's a setting or something that I don't have turned on (or off). Or perhaps it's something else. I've never noticed jagged edges in Illustrator before so I'm curious why it may be happening now.
Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

    Doug,
    As (the other) Doug said.
You may enjoy how the (slight) jaggedness becomes relatively smaller as you zoom in; that is an obvious way of determinning whether you have vector or raster artwork.
When you print, the visibility of jaggedness depends on the print method and resolution of spots/dots/lines/whatever, and when you present artwork on the web and similar, the jaggedness will depend on (the settings of) the monitors of the receivers/visitors.

  • Illustrator images with jagged edges when converting a document to pdf

    Hi,
    Illustrator CS6.
I created some images in illustrator. Saved the images as a .tff. Put the images in a Word.docx. Looks great. Convert the word.docx to a pdf and my images have jagged edges. I have anti-alaising check in my preferences but still the image looks bad.
    Any suggestions?
    thanks

Did you resize the images larger than when inserted into Word?
What resolution did you export the TIF from AI at?
What was the Anti-aliasing setting (type or art optimized or none)?
Are you using Word's Save As PDF, or the Adobe Acrobat add-on?
Are you viewing the result in Acrobat (or Adobe Reader) at 100% or larger?

  • Vector Circle Has Jagged Edges - Why?

I'm creating a button logo in Fireworks for print use and
wanted to use Vector shapes as I thought they didn't distort.
I'm working in CMYK at 300DPI.
So I start out with a white vector circle for the outer-ring
to the button using an Anti-Alias edge:
    White
    Button
Then I add the inner vector cirle, same deal as before:
    Blue inner
    circle
    So far so good.
Now I add an outer bevel effect to the blue circle to give
    the button effect and....
    WOOOOOAAAAHHH!!!!
The blue circle's edges have gone jagged! What happened
there? I thought that Vector shapes retained their edges because
they weren't confined to tiny pixels. What's going on, why aren't
the edges retaining their smoothness once I've applied an effect to
    the shape?

For now, if you recreate the effect with an inner bevel
    instead you will
get rid of the jaggies. (softness = 7)

  • Why can't I copy an image or vector from Illustrator CC and paste to Fireworks CS6?

Why can't I copy an image or vector from Illustrator CC and paste to Fireworks CS6? This was possible with Illustrator CS6. I know they are different versions but since there is no Fireworks CC, is there a fix update???

Yes, other users have complained about that. Unfortunately, Fireworks' development was halted a year ago, and I would be surprised if Adobe spends any money or time to fix bugs and interoperability issues in Fireworks. I would not expect any real updates or fixes.
Tough to swallow, but FW is dead in the water and EOL'ed.

  • AE CS6 having problems with jagged edges in my render

I used to compose videos together using After Effects CS4 and the default settings for rendering produced good renders, but after I've upgraded to the CS6 version I notice jagged edges problem in my renders that I didn't have in CS4, and i'm using the default settings in CS6.
This is a screenshot of a video rendered using CS4 (default render settings):
This next one is rendered using AE CS6 (default render settings):
I have looked into the formats that both versions render at and tried to figure out what the difference is. To start off, the available formats given in CS4 seems a lot more different than those in CS6.
-CS4 rendered in a "Video for Windows" format by default and in Format Options it is Uncompressed, while CS6 doesn't have the "Video for Windows" option at all (and I can't find AVI format for CS4).
-In CS6 the default format is "AVI", and the Video Codec inside Format Option is "None" by default.
I'm not sure if this is why CS6 produces jagged edges in its videos. Does anyone know what I can do to render sharper videos in CS6 so i can stop using the CS4 version?
For example should I maybe change the format from AVI to something else? Change the Video Codec from None to something else?

Well, straight up: Have you ever bothered to read the AE help? No offense, but this really sounds like "I use the default settings, but otherwise I don't know quite what I'm doing." AVI is cunningly called Video for Windows proper. the rest makes no sense. You are not telling us anything meaningful like comp settings and so on or how you verify your output. The second image simply looks like the hardware scaling in the comp viewer at odd zoom rates and resolutions. Anything beyond that will require a lot more info.

  • Jagged Edges in Encore CS6

    Hello All,
I've been working on an edit for several weeks now, and feel like I've exhausted a good amount of the resources I've been able to track down on my own. The edit is a set of training sessions I filmed for a school system in Texas, broken down over 5 days. I've edited each of those sessions independently, then dropped each day onto a timeline in FCPX, which I then exported via the DVD option in the share menu. The original edit was 1080 24p.
I then imported the m2v and AC3 files from that DVD export into Encore CS6, instructing it to do no transcoding. I setup my menus (editing one of the included themes to my liking), and did my export. Upon playback, I found that my menus are incredibly jagged, due mainly to aliasing I'm sure. I managed to get the text to a semi-acceptable state, but the hover icons for the menu options are still stair-stepping badly. My personal thought is that the footage itself is also of poor quality, even for a DVD (it looks fine in the raw m2v files and in the 1080 render), but it'll be suitable for this client's requirements.
Is there any way to get a clean menu system devoid of all these jagged edges? I've adjusted the aspect ratio on the menu files for widescreen, I've tried various fonts, etc.
    Thanks,
    Devon

This is just a GUESS (since I don't use FCP) but do you have a better way to do your downscaling from HidDef to SD to go on a DVD?
I work with AVCHD and downscale to SD, with PPro CS5, and the resulting DVD is better quality than when I used to use a beginning to end SD workflow from an SD tape camera

  • Is there a way to edit Illustrator vectors on Flash CS6?

    hello
Is there a way to edit Illustrator vectors on Flash CS6? It would help me a lot a feature like that.
    regards

You should be able to import an AI image or copy/paste AI content into Flash and then use the Modify->Break Apart command or doubleclick (as many times as needed) to get down to the drawn elements where they can be manipulated as vector shapes in Flash.

  • Vector drawings to Illustrator CS6

I'm using Illustrator CS6 on my iMac (as part of a complete Master Collection) and Adobe Draw on my iPad Air2. Is there a way for files generated via Adobe Draw (or Lines, or Scetch, or ...) to be opened as (layered) vector-files, like i believe is possible in Illustrator CC? The only file-extension i can locate via Creative Cloud or share via Email is PNG/JPG.

If I am understanding your question correctly you want to use the "copy image to creative cloud" function within Draw to export a layered editable vector file (.ai) like you would create in illustrator itself.
It is my understanding and I am in no part an expert on this software but from what I understand of it is that you need to use the "Send to Illustrator" function within your drawing panel to create those sorts of files (illustrator .ai files). The copy image to create cloud is more of an image export creating a flattened copy of the file. Unfortunately there isnt a way of my knowledge to send a layered .ai file directly to creative cloud account, further I don't have CS6 anymore so I couldn't tell you if the send to illustrator function works with that software version either.
I also could not tell you if they are going to add this feature later for the creative cloud function though it would seem that they should if they haven't or aren't going to already.
I hope this helps some and I truly hope that someone that understands the software better can find a solution for you.

  • Illustrator CS6 to CS4: White lines along edges of semi-transparent gradient meshes

    Hi,
I recently invested in CS6 Production Premium and I've just tested legacy support by saving an Illustrator CS6 image in CS4 format.
The image contains a number of semi-transparent gradient meshes used for highlights.
Having loaded the saved CS4 .ai file in CS6, white lines appear along my semi-transparent gradient meshes (see the attached screenshot).
What's happening is that the anchor points with 0% opacity in CS6 suddenly have 100% opacity when I load the saved CS4 files in CS6.
    Is this a known error?
If so, how/where do I report it?
Here are the relevant CS6 and CS4 files:
    http://snk.to/f-chcig8s9
P.S. There are no white lines when I save the image in CS5 format and load it in CS6.

The image contains a number of semi-transparent gradient meshes used for highlights.
CS4 doesn't support semi-transparent gradient meshes. So they are simulated by using opacity masks. The masks are generated atuomatically from the meshes in the file, so they have the exact same size, which causes the fringes. If you would create this manually, you would make the opacity mask slightly larger in order to avoid fringes.
