Jagged edges when playback is at 100%

I am on a Mac using CS 5.5   OS X  10.9.5
When I play back Sony NEX and Sony EX- 1 Clips at 100%  I get jagged edges. When the clips are stopped or playing back at 50% the edges are smooth.  What is the cause/remedy for this behavior.  I would like to see smooth images no matter what the resolution.
The NEX produces .mp4 and .MTS  files and the EX- 1 are .MP4,
Also when importing footage into PrePro via the import dialogue I can preview the NEX files but I can't see any previews the EX-1 files.
Thanks in advance

OK.
No need to be concerned at all.

  • Picture quality has jagged edges when people are moving

We have our settings right, but when we play back the video there are jagged edges around the people, especially when there is movement. Could the problem be that it is a digital ycc format and apple is switching it to RGB?

30" Apple monitor or no...you need a PRODUCTION monitor, or a TV to see a TRUE representation of the image:
    #8 External Monitor Viewing.
    Shane's Stock Answer #8:
A simple path is mac > firewire > camera or deck > rca cables > tv
Then start up your camera and tv, then open fcp.
Then go View > External video > all frames
Video playback should be Apple firewire NTSC (If you are using an NTSC set)
Audio playback should be Audio follows Video
Techinially, this should send synched video to your TV
If for some reason you can't view your timeline on your external monitor, there are a few things to try:
    1) Make sure that the camera/deck is connected and powered on BEFORE you open FCP.
    2) In the Final Cut Pro menu select AUDIO/VIDEO Preferences and make sure your signal is being sent out thru Firewire DV.
    3) Go to the menu and select VIEW>EXTERNAL>ALL FRAMES.
    4) Click in the % box above the image and select FIT TO WINDOW.
    5) Go to VIEW->refresh A/V devices
    6) Make sure the Log & Capture window is closed
If you want it to play in both the canvas and the external monitor you need to go to the FINAL CUT PRO menu and select AUDIO/VIDIO settings and make sure MIRROR ON DESKTOP is selected under the PLAYBACK OUTPUT section

  • Illustrator images with jagged edges when converting a document to pdf

    Hi,
    Illustrator CS6.
I created some images in illustrator. Saved the images as a .tff. Put the images in a Word.docx. Looks great. Convert the word.docx to a pdf and my images have jagged edges. I have anti-alaising check in my preferences but still the image looks bad.
    Any suggestions?
    thanks

Did you resize the images larger than when inserted into Word?
What resolution did you export the TIF from AI at?
What was the Anti-aliasing setting (type or art optimized or none)?
Are you using Word's Save As PDF, or the Adobe Acrobat add-on?
Are you viewing the result in Acrobat (or Adobe Reader) at 100% or larger?

  • Jagged Edges - When compressing 50 minute clip - burned in DVDSP

I'm in the process of authoring four DVD's (mixed martial arts, muy thai etc) which was shot in HD on a Panasonic HVX-200 using the DVCPro HD codec, at 24 fps progressive.
2 of the four DVD's I'm having problems with jagged edges around the two fighters (two guys shot against a white backdrop), you can clearly see blocky artifacting around the edges of them.
I've tried exporting via compressor using a 1-pass VBR 6.2 Mbps min - 7.7 Mpbs max, imported into DVDSP, build the project, and then when I use the DVD player program, I can see the artifacting.
However, I have a couple of other clips on the DVD, that were exported the exact same way, and no artifacting is evident.
I tried re-encoding at a CBR of 7.7 Mpbs, no change. Any ideas?
One thing that I just thought of is that I have been using the same source folder when building the project as the previous versions (to save time rebuilding all the motion menus, etc). Could that be a reason? Would DVDSP be using some of the information from the older encoded video?
    Any thoughts please.

Make sure that you are encoding for 24p. Set the video format for 720p, and the frame rate for 23.98. You should also be using 2-pass VBR, not 1-pass.

  • Images have jagged edges when rotated in Keynote 6.1

After upgrading to Keynote 6.1, I'm having problems when rotating images that I've imported to my slides. Any time I rotate an image that's not on a 45, 90, 180 angle, the image has jagged edges.
Here's a screenshot as an example. The image is on 4 degree angle.
    Any ideas?

Sorry, in haste I forgot to mention this also:
Use an appropriate slide size, as a minimum resolution I match the slide size (Keynote > Inspector > Setup Slide Size), to the resolution of the display I am using, in my case 1920 x 1200.
I always resize the images I bring into Keynote with the same pixel resolution as the slide size.

  • Imported images have jagged edges when scaled down

Perhaps I'm missing something really obvious (like the quality thing in the After Effects timeline), but I imported a Photoshop image, a logo, scaled it down to 15%, and it has jagged edges. Ditto for a TIFF version of same. Starting resolution is plenty large.

You can adjust the apparent size of the image in the "media" tab of the property inspector. Select the photo in the media bin (not the layer in the timeline), then the media tab in the insepctor.
try reducing the size of the image to the size you are scaling it to (of course, you'll have to adjust the scale property of objects in the timeline which use that image). for example, if the image is 1000px wide, and you're scaling it 15%, then adjust the media size to 150px and restore the scale to 100%.
YMMV but it's worked well for me. sometimes adding a slight gaussian blur helps (<.25). it would be more effective to scale in an image editing app (like photoshop) to the desired size, but this is more flexible.

  • Shape tools giving jagged edges when curved CS4

    hi everybody,
thanks in advance for whatever help you can give me on this.
I am working in CS4 under windows 7 with all the updates for the system and for CS4.
I was doing okay until recently when i started noticing that the shape tool was giving me
jagged and fuzzy edges, even whil it was still vectored. the docs i work in are 300dpi,
and as long as the shape tool does a straight edge it's seems to be fine, but when i
try to do a an egg or oval shape the jaggedness appears and i cant seem to do anything
    about it.
i have uniinstalled cleared all preferences and reinstalled to the same outcome.
    what should i do?
    Thanks again.

i have viewed it zoomed out and in. before i had this problem if i was dealing with a vector shape i could zoom in and see clean edges. the same if i created a shape with the pen tool. right now if the shape is not straight edge, the curved edges are fuzzy no matter which way i pull it or zoom it or anything. i just dont know what to make out of it. i have reinstalled it twice after cleaning out the registry and any lingering files that i could find in my app data folder and the program folder in program files. i dont know what else to do.
    i'm on windows 7 ultimate

  • Jagged edges when viewing video

    Hello all,
let's see if I'm able to describe this problem adequately.
I have taken short video clips with, now two different camera (AVCHD used), imported into iPhoto and viewed within. During playback there are severe jagged blocks mostly around the outlines of moving subjects. If the subject stops moving this effect disappears but resumes as soon there once again is movement. This isn't even subtle, the videos are quite unwatchable.
What I have tried is export those videos out of iPhoto and opened them with QT. There was no such problem and the video was smooth throughout.
I don't quite understand what is happening here.
    Cheers Argento

As a test launch iPhoto with the Option key held down and create a new, test library.  Import some photos and test to see if the same problem persists. Does it?
If it does try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete the contents the following folder:
    User/Library/Containers/com.apple.iPhoto
3 - reboot, launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: For Mavericks, 10.9,  go to your Home folder and use the View ➙ Show View Options menu to bring the this window:
where you can check the Show Library Folder checkbox.
If it doesn't try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run Option #4, Rebuild Database, followed by Option #1 if needed.

  • Imported jpeg pictures jagged edges when in motion

When I import jpeg pictures into final cut pro I have a problem with pictures developing jagged pixilated lines throughout the picture when I put them in motion. I thought the image size had something to do with it but I reduced the size in photoshop to no avail. Any advice will be appreciated much.

Sorry to step in. I am about to upgrade to a MacBook Pro 17" and buy the Final Cut Studio 2. What is holding me back is I have experienced a similar problem to this string of comments and I am wondering if someone can help me.
I am trying to make a film for my wife's 40th and have a ton of high res JPEGs as well as a combination of HD video (MPEG4 format from the Sanyo Xacti HD1000) and other formats that I am currently having converted into digital.
Unfortunately the team at the apple shop here have had two problems:
1, when they import the high res JPEGs they look fine until after then rending process when they become pixilated. These are photos from a 10 MegaPixel camera.
2, The HD Video Clip (the MPEG4) format shows up as a green screen on their computer.
It turns out that they are still using the FCP version 6 and noone at the shop (Ultimate Apple Computer on Stanley Street) knows how to use it or fix the above problems.
I'll step up tomorrow and buy a the MacBook Pro 17" if I knew I could do this. Can anyone tell me how to overcome these issues?
    Thanks

  • Jagged edges when using rounded rectangle

    Hi,
Hope someone can help me here.
I am designing a website for myself (first timer) and have created menu bars and buttons using the rounded rectangle tool.
The images look good but the edges are pixelated.
I am using anti-alias and have also try feathered but to no avail.
When I preview the site in the browser I can still see the pixelated edges (I assumed it might be a magnification or resolution issue)
I am not using any images, have not extracted etc. I am simply using the rounded rectangle to create a menu bar and then colouring it in as a gradient, adding text and that's pretty much it.
Any help given here will be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks,
    Eddie

You shouldn't see anything in the browser that you don't see in Fireworks. If you have magnified your view by zooming your browser, then reset it to normal zoom. If that isn't the problem...
One thing you can try is to make your navigation images 2 or 4 times larger than you want, export the files, import them and reduce them to 50% or 25%, depending. Sometimes, you can get what appears to be a smoother edge by reduction than you can with Firework's anti-aliasing of rounded shapes.

  • How can I get rid of "Jagged Edges" on the text in .jpg/.psd file in FCP?

    Hi guys,
I am running FCP5.1 and I have a still image (.jpg) of a consumer product with the name of the product and the description on it.
When I view it in the viewer or canvas, I see jagged edges around the name, description and the product.
Even when I use the FCP text tool, I still see it.
I even see jagged edges when I import a .psd file (photoshop doument) with text on it into FCP.
It is getting very frustrating for me at this point.
Can someone help me out please?
    Thanks,

  • Why does this logo have jagged edges?

I'm working on a new logo and before I get too far along I need to resolve this issue;  why does this shape have jagged edges when posted on the web?
you can see it on-line auctionontario.ca
    Thx

    auctioneer,
Obviously, you are using the transparency available for the GIF format.
In addition, you should tick the Anti-Aliasing which is, unfortunately, hidden away like a hidden feature in the Image Size window within Save for Web.

  • When rotating a simple black rectangle, jagged edges are created. How can I fix this? (for web)

I have been messing with a simple black rectangle and when I transform it, jagged edges appear. This is the base for a logo for web. I have anti-alising checked in pref. The logo looks horrible and blurry/jagged on the edges even when previewed on several screens from pc to mac. Any suggestions are welcome!
p.s. this is also happening with text, that has been made an object (top of text seen in the rectangle.)

I don't see anything unusual. That's the best anti-aliasing you can possibly get. Have you seen another black on white hard edge at the same angle that looks better? When comparing raster images make sure you view all of them at screen resolution which is 100% zoom.
Obviously anti-aliasing of horizontal and vertical lines is the best followed by 45° angles and at your angle it is one of the worst because with this angle you have less pixel lines to render it on the pixel grid of the screen. Also the pixels of each monitor screen are different sizes and if you happened to be viewing it on screens with relatively larger pixels the aliasing will be more noticeable.

  • Jagged Edges and Unstable Images when converting from Image Sequence to DV

    Hi,
I have an Image Sequence (very good quality) that I'm trying to convert using Graphic Converter into DV NTSC Video.
    I chose Progressive scan.
I find that the Images appear to have Jagged Edges especially when there is movement involved. Also, the entire image as a whole appears to be Unstable/ Vibrate Slightly.
Does anyone have Experience with this?
    Thanks,
    Rajnesh Domalpalli

Ntsc dv should be interlaced. also if you are viewing on a computer monitor the footage will appear nasty. It's best to view via an NTSC monitor.Do you have Final cut? if your images are correctly sized you should be able to drop the sequence into a final cut sequence set to DV NTSC and render out the resulting video. You will likely need a multiformat monitor as I believe the standard in India is a PAL variant PAL B not NTSC . in NTSC the screen is filled first by odd lines (Field1) then by even lines (Field2)thus a single pixel line will appear to turn off and on as the screen fills between odd and even lines. Straight lines and angled lines exhibit aliasing and flickering particularily when viewed on a computer monitor because computer screens fill the screen progressively from top to bottom and at a much higher refresh rate than NTSC. hope this helps

  • Jagged edges on photos.

    Hello.
I got a huge problem when trying to incorporate pics in PSE12.
I have downsized all pics to 2000X1500 using PS.
My problem is that the photos comes out with jagged edges and really bad quality.
I have tried all sorts of things.  Saving it to PC helped a little but still jagged edges and overall really bad quality.
    Tried different sizes, still same.
Even tried downsizing to 720 and burn to disc, playback on ps4.  Still same.
The quality of video is fine and looks alot better then Pictures.  I can just pause the video and it looks
    crisper with no jagged edges.
I have never experienced this Before with older versions of PSE.
And No!  This is not a resolution issue.  I know they wont look as crisp as original
photos but they should be on par with videoquality and as of now they are not.

    Vinjack
Just what program are you working with - Photoshop Elements 12 or Premiere Elements 12. The "PSE" abbreviation is typically used with Photoshop Elements.
In order for us to help you, please clarify your posting. If this is a Photoshop Elements question, you have posted in the wrong forum. You want the Adobe Photoshop Elements Forum (photo editing) and not where you are now the Adobe Premiere Elements Forum (video editing). It is your mention of "Timeline" incorporated in the "PSE" description that is confusing. By any chance are you working in the Elements Organizer Slideshow Editor of a Photoshop Elements program? Do you have any version of Premiere Elements at all?
Looking forward to your follow up.
    Thanks.
