Jaguar 10.2 on a B/W G3?

Hello! I have a B/W G3, OS 8.6, that I mainly use for my scsi chain for my Agfa scanner. Can I easily run Jaguar 10 10.2 on it? I currently have what I purchased on it: 350mhz with 192mb ram.

Yeah I used to Run Jaguar 10.2.8 on My G3 B&W Ran Fast Apps Worked Great great system for Machine Panther 10.3 is Nice too but little more of a Ram Hog but more apps today work with it but like those other guys said Jaguar should run Smooth like a champ.

I have a 2005 Jaguar xj8.  When I tried to upgrade my 3gs to a 4g  two years ago, I got a ticking noise in the speaker and no one on the other end could hear me.  I had to go back to a 3gs.  My phone is shot and I need to upgrade.  Has there been a fix to the problem?  Apple told me there was some sort of interference with the airbag system.  Jaguar was totally unhelpful.

    "network.negotiate-auth.delegation-uris userset string jaguar,puma,http://jaguar,http://puma
    network.negotiate-auth.gsslib userset string jaguar,puma,http://jaguar,http://puma

Can i do this in Safari?

  • Unable to Install OS 10.2 (Jaguar) or OS 10.3 (Panther) on PowerBook G4

I was having issues with my PowerBook G4 Titanium (667 MHz) running OS 10.3 (Panther), see http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=5846471#5846471, so I zeroed and erased the harddrive before installing the original operating system, OS 10.1 (Puma). Using the Software Update feature, I updated to OS 10.1.5, verified/repaired permissions and the harddrive, and then updated firmware before proceeding to install OS 10.2 (Jaguar) using a full retail upgrade disk. The installation produced a kernel panic in the final stages, so I repeated the process from the beginning (zeroed and erased the harddrive, etc.). The second go-around, the installation hung up in the final stages (with 8 minutes to go, which went on for a good hour), until I received an Unexpected Error. (Exit Code 0). I restarted the computer while holding down the Option key to select the original OS 10.1 startup disk, and now my laptop starts up with the smiling mac icon and a crude black-and-white spinning sun. I used the Disk Utility feature to verify/repair permissions and the harddrive, but ejecting the Installation CD and attempting to start up still displays the smiling mac and crude sun.
I suspect the harddrive itself may be defective (at least that's what started this whole chain of events), but the Disk Utility verifies the harddrive. If it's not the harddrive (how else can I tell?), is there something else that may be impeding installation of OS 10.2?
My OS 10.3 is an upgrade CD, not a full retail installation DVD, so I am reluctant to try and jump from the original OS (10.1) to 10.3 without first installing 10.2. Or, is that possible?
Would I be able to install OS 10.2 using the full retail CD, or do I have to install the original, base OS (10.1) first?
I appreciate any advice the forum is willing to offer.

I have 1024 MB of RAM in the form of two (2) 512 MB chips which I installed shortly after purchasing my PowerBook G4 new some years ago (2002?).
In the event you can decipher the following, which I suspect you can, I am attaching both the finder.crash.log and pbs.crash.log, which I opened from the Console, as well as the Kernel Panic Log, which I opened in Apple System Profiler.

Interestingly enough, I hadn't suspected the RAM. I always thought it was the hard drive going out on me (which it may still be).
I ran an Extended Test using my Apple Hardware Test CD and it revealed the following error code: mem_2/4
I verified that the RAM shows up in my System Profile in Apple System Profiler. Is it possible one or both of the RAM chips is going bad? Is it possible that the built-in RAM is going bad?
Do you recommend I remove one or both of the RAM chips and then run the hardware test again? Are there memory tests other than the Apple Hardware Test CD that may be able to better pinpoint the problem?
    Thanks again for your help.

  • Clamshell iBook Won't Boot from Jaguar CD (v10.2.3)

Branching off from a prior thread (https://discussions.apple.com/message/13222609#13222609) in which booting from an OS X CD was a potential solution to a problem, the problem encountered with the potential solution warrants its own thread.
My machine is a Clamshell iBook (G3), Revision B (with 64MB base RAM and no FireWire). It was purchased new eleven years ago and later ugpraded to 192MB RAM.
The OS on the hard drive was 9.0.2 until yesterday, when I updated it to 9.1 so I could bring the firmware up to date. I did this before attempting to use the Jaguar CD.
The CD in question is an original Jaguar install CD, version 10.2.3. This is a two-disc set (the discs are labeled 1 and 2) and is a retail version; my iBook was manufactured prior to the release of OS X (non-server) and does not have an OEM OS X disc.
When the iBook attempts to boot from the CD, either by pressing "C" at startup or by running the Installer from OS 9.1, it seems to be loading fine until the following appears:
At this point, the iBook won't load any further and a restart is required.
The iBook does boot an OS X Cheetah (10.0) CD as well as its own restore disc (9.0.2) and the 9.1 disc that came with Cheetah. Unfortunately, Cheetah doesn't seem to have any effect on the battery (this is why I'm booting with an OS X CD; see the posts in the other thread for details). I don't have any other retail CD versions of OS X to try (aside from a Snow Leopard DVD).
Aside from this boot problem and the battery issue (the computer won't recognize the battery and displays an "X" through it even after having charged it with an external charger) the iBook is working perfectly fine.

No. I get the "X" through the battery in the menu bar and no bars, just a plug icon, in the control strip under OS 9.
The battery is a year old and has never been recognized by this computer. I don't have another Clamshell to test it in but did verify that it can charge in a VST charger.
The last time the computer recognized a battery was about 6 years ago when the initial batteries were still in use. Both were completely depleted after my charger shorted out; they didn't charge again after I got a new charger. The batteries were healthy at the time and were able to hold 3-4 hours, which was pretty typical mileage for me on this laptop.

  • How do I enable the startup sound on Mac OS 10.2.8(Jaguar)

    Three things
1.How do I enable the startup sound on Mac OS 10.2.8(Jaguar)
I am using an iMac G4
I like the startup chime of mac osx but it doesn't seem to be chiming when I turn the computer on.
    2. How do I get safari+flash player  on 10.2.8
    3. How do I update the computer (e.g. Windows update kind off thing)
    Please help.
    Cheers,
    Mittens131

    1. Make sure the volume is on. Check that the machine makes other sounds.
    2. Here is a link for Safari for a Mac 10.2.8
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2964
Though I'd be surprised if it would be very useful. Things have changed a lot on the internet since that came out. An old version of Firefox might be better. I don't know where you would get an old version of flash. It is an Adobe product.
    3. There are no further updates to  Jaguar 10.2 than you already have, 10.2.8 that was the last update.

  • How to install OS X Jaguar on a USB Stick?

I was wondering how I could install OS X Jaguar on my USB stick. I have upgraded my iMac G3 to OS X Tiger and I don't want to partition the hard-drive because it is a small hard drive. So I want to install OS X Jaguar on my USB stick. But when I choose my USB Stick as the destanation it says that it can only install OS X onto a bootable USB stick! Someone please help!

Those older machines cannot boot from a USB device. Only from internal or Firewire. If you could boot from a USB device, then you would first need to prep the USB stick by partitioning and formatting it for OS X using Disk Utility.

  • Error while starting Tomcat Apache and Jaguar services in AW webview server

    hi,
I am facing a problem with AW webview server. I am not able to restart the Tomcat Apache and Jaguar Service after a planned server reboot activity.I am getting the below error.
"Could not start Apache Tomcat service on Local Computer. Error 1069. The service could not start due to log on failure"
The below account has been verified in the Domain controller and confirmed that the account is not Locked out or disabled.
I have AW , HDS and Webview running on the same server.
    Can someone advice ...

What OS version?  This might be a windows problem and not a Apache/Jaguar problem.

  • I can't open jpgs created in Jaguar on my new MacBook Pro

I just got a new MacBook Pro and now I am having proplems opening my clients jpg files (created on a G3 using Photoshop 5.5 in Jaguar).
Some open fine, some just flash and disapear when I click on the folders containing them, so I can't even open the folders they are in. I tried to use PhotoShop CS3 to open the files, but no luck. They can't even be opened in the finder.
I AM able to open the files on my old G4 with Photoshop CS2 with no problems. It seems to be a OS 10.49 problem or MacBook Pro problem instead of Photoshop because they are not opening in the finder either. I tried resaving the files in PhotoShop CS2 (on my G4) and burning them to a CD to transfer them to the MacBook Pro. Still didn't work.
These files are part of a web job I need to finish soon. I've been braging about how cool my MacBook Pro and the new CS3Dreamweaver is. Do I have to eat my words and go back to using my slow G4?.

Me thinks you have tried to connect to a shortcut folder and not a genuine folder.
Note Mac OS X in Mac OS X 10.4 has 3 popular folder shortcut locations:
The leftmost column of the Finder window.
The horizontal toolbar on the top of the Finder window
The translucent bar which can be anchored on the side or bottom of the screen known as the Dock. These are not true folder locations, but only locations for shortcuts. When you click on a folder for a volume that is not mounted, or is a folder which was deleted it will behave in this fashion. Often if you click on it the right fashion, it will change to a question mark.
In addition if it is an alias to an existing folder that has no contents, it will behave this way from the three shortcut locations.
If you right click instead of the left click a folder, it may think you want to do something to the folder which you can't do. Make sure your mouse button functions properly as a Primary button on Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Keyboard and Mouse.
Also make sure Universal Access is not turned on as it too can cause funny behavior in the mouse click actions, in Apple menu -> System Preferences -> Universal Access.

  • Jaguar refuses to display on external VGA monitor

    Hi,
I have a PowerBook G3 that I would like to set up for printing. I installed OS 9 on it and it displays just fine on my external VGA monitor. I also tried installing OS 10.1 on it which seems to work fine but when I try to install OS 10.2 the monitor goes off after the disk loads up (after the Apple logo goes away). It will not display on my monitor and I cannot use the built in display since it's broken. What's wrong?
    Thanks

    Apple Rules,
Did you make sure to download the firmware update (if you PowerBook G3 is a firewire model) before upgrading.

What type of disk is the 10.2 Jaguar disk that you are trying to use to install? Is it a machine specific disk or a full retail install disk?

  • Upgrading from 9.2.2 to Jaguar

Im in a bit of a situation...I got got the install disc 1 for jaguar to boot on my iMac DV G3 400 Mhz (9.2.2) but its stuck at the "Welcome to Mac OS X" screen. I cant get past the Introduction. At the bottom it says "Reading Pakages" but its been doing that for about an hour. I checked the disk in Disk Utilities before I rebooted to the to the installer and it said that the disk was ok. Is it normal for the Introduction to take this long? Also I checked http://www.apple-history.com (cool site)and it said my iMac could run 10.4.6 if it wanted to (yay!) so im confused...Was I supposed to upgrade to 10.0.0 (Cheetah) first? Help please...
P.S. this is a legit copy
    Thanks in advance

iMac DV G3 (Slot Loading) 400 Mhz   Mac OS 9.2.x

    Try this:
To test and repair your startup disk:
    1. Start up from the Mac OS X Install Disk by inserting the disk and restarting your computer holding down the C key.
Choose Installer>Open Disk Utility and select the disk in the left column.
    2. Click First Aid.
    3. Click Verify Disk to test it or Repair Disk to test and repair it.
You may also be able to backup in the Install process if you've gone past that point already.
If that doesn't work to let you install OS X, you can try booting from OS 9.x as normal, and then install it on an external FireWire drive if you have one (or maybe you can borrow one from a friend). After that's done, you could boot from that external OS X installation, download a copy of Carbon Copy Cloner and use that to transfer the installation to your current OS 9.x disk inside the iMac.

  • System freeze when trying to install 10.2 (Jaguar) on a biege G3

I'm trying to install 10.2 on a partition on my G3 hard drive. The machine specs are:
    400Mhz G3
    384 Meg RAM
    OS9.2.2
    ROM Id $77D.45F2
When I try to restart with the install CD, the machine freezes completely. The only way I've been able to recover is by removing the backup battery for about 45 minutes. Then the machine will restart in 9.2.
What am I missing? I'm following the 'read me' directions and the on-screen prompts.
    Thanks

    Andrew -
Guess I wasn't too clear as to what is happening.
But first, yes I am using a perfectly legal (purchased) copy of Jaguar. And I checked the update criteria - since I don't have an Apple SCSI card, there are no updates for a G3.
Now, as to what happens. When I insert disk 1 and click "install" I get a message that the computer will be restarted and the installation will begin. The screen goes blank. And nothing happens! No restart, no CD activity - nothing. And I can't restart into OS9!
The machine is dead until I remove the backup battery for a while. Then I can restart in OS9, and everything works.
Hope this clears up what my problem is.

  • Is iChat in Tiger compatible with iChat in Jaguar?

A buddy and I want to set up ichat. We both have .mac accounts, he uses Jaguar OS and I use Tiger. We both put our .mac address in the buddy list but can't seem to get a connection. Another friend has a Macbook pro and a .mac account. We had no problems. Is there an inherent problem here between Rendevous/bonjour and/or Jaguar/Tiger or have we missed something???? Any help appreciated.
    Jeff

    Hi el beagle amable,
iChat 1.x in Jaguar should be able to text chat to iChat 3
It was possible to buy a version of iChat for Jaguar at one point and again there should be no problem with this.
Is he able to Log on to AIM at all ?

  • Java on Jaguar problems

I've got a 3d modelling program that is written in java and seems to have problems under the JVM on Jaguar (10.2.8 with all updates applied). When opening a new window with controls it sometimes gives me the beachball cursor and never comes back. It does a different thing after saving a file, when the save file box goes away, the original window won't activate.
I've been told by the programs author that these things don't happen on other unix systems or on Macs running Panther or higher.
My question is, if this is a JVM bug, I would download a newer version from Sun, but they don't offer a Mac JVM anymore, I guess because Apple includes it in the OS. Is there no way to upgrade my java machine?

I don't think "hopelessly obsolete" is a good "excuse".
Java 1.4 is still widely used (as is 1.3) and real-world adoption of Java 5 seems to be quite slow.
Application written for Java 1.4 should run on a compliant JVM no matter how "obsolete" that platform may have become.
Actually, I experienced compatibility issues where older Java apps wouldn't run on newer JRE releases, so upgrading is not always a "silver bullet"... That's why Apple keeps the latest releases of 1.3 AND 1.4 AND 1.5 even on Tiger so applications can request them as needed.
Moreover, even on Tiger with Java 5 installed, Java 1.4 will be the default JRE used unless Java 5 is specifically requested. This is to be changed soon with the upcoming Java 5 update.
For OS 10.2, make sure you have the "1.4.1 Update 1" installed. It's based on 1.4.1_01 as the default JRE on Jaguar, but hopefully some bugs are fixed.
See Apple's TN http://developer.apple.com/technotes/tn2002/tn2110.html for details.
Are you trying to run the Art of Illusion by any chance?

  • Updating to Jaguar from 9.2; but no DVD drive

My Granny has a B/W G3 Mac OS 9.2 and it has no DVD drive. I have a Jaguar install DVD.
I also have a iMac G5 iSight with SuperDrive on it. I am told you can use a FireWire cable to use my iMac as a host or something like that. How do I do that?
    Thanks
    ~Kevin~

    Hi, Kevin -
I believe the retail versions of OSX 10.2 (Jaguar) all came on CDs; DVDs for retail purchases did not begin until OSX 10.3 (Panther).
This would indicate that your OSX 10/2 on DVD might be one that shipped with a machine, rather than a retail version, and so is model-specific. If so, it probably will not work for your Granny's B&W G3. The retail ones have universal installers, capable of installing that OS on any Mac supported by Apple for that OS version.
You can often get retail versions of older OSX versions from sites like these -
    http://store.yahoo.com/hardcoremac/index.html - Apple Reseller
    http://www.applerescue.com/
Although the B&W G3 models do have a firewire port, they are very limited in use for Firewire Target Disk Mode connections - the B&W G3 can be the Host machine, but not the Target machine. It is a hardware limitation, no workaround possible.
Article #58583 - Firewire Target Disk Mode
I'm not sure that installing over firewire (via Firewire Target Disk Mode) would work anyway - OS installers usually install the appropriate complement of files based on the machine whose OS it is booted to (including the OS on a CD in that machine), hence may not install any model-specific files needed by the Target machine if that machine is dis-similar to the Host machine.
