Welcome
Thunder bird after installing version 31 for windows server server2012 I can not set up an account because it does not appear UI for setting up an account. Interfeace after starting the program is incomplete.

You probably have a newer version of a PDF Library on the system e.g. by installing Digital Editions or Adobe Reader. You will have to uninstall them first and then try again.

  • Can send but not retrieve emails using Thunderbird and Windows 8.1

Hi, I am not able to get Thunderbird to retrieve emails on a new laptop.
Last week I purchased a new laptop due to an imminent hard disk failure on my old laptop. I will call them "Old" and "New" laptops. (Old laptop is still working for the moment...)
The Old laptop is nearly 3 years old, and I have been using Thunderbird on it since new without any problems.
I have downloaded and installed Thunderbird on the New laptop, and can not get it to retrieve emails.
As the Old laptop is still working (at the moment), I am able to directly visually compare and check settings on both computers.
    THE PROBLEM
Using Thunderbird on the New laptop, I am able to send emails, I can see all my old emails restored from the Old laptop using Mozbackup, but clicking Get Mail on the New laptop does not retrieve new
    emails.
When I click Get Mail, the status message in the bottom left corner says "connected to .....<ISP>..." but does not actually get the emails. However, the Old laptop is still able to get emails as it always has.
My ISP is a large Australian telco that I have used for many years and I have not changed anything with my account. The ISP is POP3.
    WHAT HAVE I TRIED
I deleted the email account created by restoring from Mozbackup, and attempted using the Thunderbird new account wizard, however Thunderbird did not recognise my ISP and would not create the account - even though it is working perfectly at the same time on the Old laptop.
All Firewalls I can find have been configured to allow Thunderbird, with the same configuration settings on both machines.
How do I know I can send but not Get emails from Thunderbird on the New laptop?
I have sent test emails to myself from the New laptop. Thunderbird sends successfully, I am able to preview the test emails via Mailwasher on the New laptop, and can read, reply, etc, to the emails if I log into my ISP webmail service. However I can NOT get Thunderbird to retrieve and download these emails on the New laptop. If I go to the Old laptop, Thunderbird works perfectly, retrieves and downloads all new emails, including these test emails.
I am now at the point where I do not know what else to try and would appreciate any suggestions.....
I have spent many hours over the last 3 days surfing the net, forums, Mozilla Support, etc, and tried everything suggested, without success. The only thing I have NOT tried is starting windows in Safe mode (as per some suggestions), as it is not a viable long term solution.
    OTHER INFO
    Computer Details;-
    "Old" laptop;-
Windows 7 Home Premium - continuously updated with all Critical and Important updates. 64 bit version.
Antivirus = Bitdefender Total Security (subscription and licensed). Up to date.
MailwasherPro 2012 (subscription and licensed). Up to date.
Thunderbird 24.5.0 working perfectly. Up to date.
    "New" laptop;-
Windows 8.1 - up to date with all Critical and Important updates. 64 bit version.
Antivirus = Bitdefender Total Security (subscription and licensed) - downloaded and installed. Up to date.
MailwasherPro 2012 (subscription and licensed) - downloaded and installed. Up to date.
Thunderbird 24.5.0 - downloaded and installed.
Note: I 'downloaded and installed' the Windows 8.1 version of these programs to avoid any potential compatibility problems restoring or copying from a Windows 7 backup version of the programs.
    1) New laptop came with pre-installed with McAfee - which has been Uninstalled due to running Bitdefender (Windows searches for 'McAfee' return nothing found suggesting the Uninstall was successful).
    2) Thunderbird has been added to both Bitdefender and Windows 8.1 firewalls on the New laptop.
    3) Bitdefender and Windows security settings are identical on both laptops - as near as I can determine, I may be missing something - but have checked all settings 3 times by doing a side-by-side visual comparison.
    4) Thunderbird settings are also identical and I am using the same email address and ISP that I have been using for many years.
    5) I migrated Thunderbird settings, accounts and emails from the Old laptop to the New laptop using Mozbackup, then visually checked and compared all settings in Thunderbird between the two machines.
    6) For info, I have used Mailwasher for many years as a simple way to preview and wash mail before running email programs such as Thunderbird - might be overkill, but I have also never had a virus or malware problem, so will keep doing this.
    7) I have Uninstalled and re-installed Thunderbird on the New laptop twice, and done the same with Bitdefender once.
    8) Any config changes I try on the New laptop, I either restart Thunderbird and / or restart the New laptop, or both.
    9) I have not created a Windows 8.1 account and am not using SkyDrive.
    10) Only other software I have installed on the New laptop is Google Chrome, Office Home 2013 and iTunes - all are working.
    Thanks in advance....

Well there is not much left. If telnet works then the path is clear and there is no hardware firewall blocking ports.
All that is left is software, so try windows safe mode with networking. A very handy way to eliminate software. it also actually disables most anti virus resident features and is preferred here because anti virus/security programs do not always disable or turn off when they say they have.
You might also try the McAfee removal tool. https://community.mcafee.com/thread/52788 I notice the rep said yes to both, they did not say not required.
Finally you could try creating a new profile, and see if it works just to exclude corruption of your existing profile. ( I doubt it but I am at the anything goes point)
Just as an aside, I have never had an email borne nasty and I for many years never even had an email virus scanner. So yes I think your a bit over cautious with mailwasher, if that is what your using it for. Thunderbird does not support scripting languages or flash, or most plugins in the email sandbox. The result is getting a virus from a mail in Thunderbird is really only possible, for all practical purposes, if you open that password protected zip from the young Russian woman and that is what the anti virus should be blocking anyway when the temp file is written.

  • How to transfer multiple account emails from Mac Thunderbird to Windows Outlook 2013 ?

I have around 5 email accounts that I access at regular intervals. I have managed to keep these accouts from years and maintained each email in dufferent folders. Now I am about to give away my mac book and switch over to windows system. All I want is to
transfer the emails from Mac Thunderbird to Outlook in windows. I have transferred the datsbase files of each account from mac to windows laptop but dont know hoe to import these to Outlook 2013. These is no such option to import the thunderbird files in Outlook
    2013.
Is there anything I am doing incorrect???
Please help me Migrate all the Thunderbird data to Outlook 2013.

You can add multiple accounts in Outlook and use them separately. But to transfer your emails from Mac Thunderbird you first need to convert the emails of Thunderbird to .PSt format in order to import into Outlook Windows.
There are multiple options available online as this is a common issue.
    Look Here:
    Export Thunderbird to Outlook Pst
    I hope it helps you

  • How to optimize Thunderbird for Windows 8.1 tablet

I have installed Thunderbird on a Dell Venue Pro 11, which is an i5 based tablet using Windows 8.1. The default font sizes and other controls for Thunderbird are difficult to operate using only touch on the smaller screen. (Imagine Thunderbird running on an 1920 x 1080 screen resolution and a 10.8 inch screen. Everything is very small but legible, and I have fat fingers.) What I would like to know is if there's an add-in that optimizes Thunderbird for touch screens and increases the font sizes, etc., to make Thunderbird easier to use on a Windows tablet. The program itself runs fine if I'm at my desk, with a mouse and multiple monitors. It is much harder to use (but still runs fine) when I'm using it as a tablet.
If no add-in exists, what settings should I change to optimize the experience?

I don't know of any particular add-on or set of adjustments to help with a smaller screen.
There is an add-on that may help by globally setting the fonts in the interface. There are other adjustments within Thunderbird for the message text. The following article discusses both of these:
    http://www.ramsden.org.uk/9_Type_sizes.html
I think Thunderbird is rather poorly suited to a touch screen. There are some features which are only accessible by clicking on a small button, and a lot of it is accessible through right-clicks, which again may not be well suited to a touchscreen.

  • I'am experiencing inimaginable problems with my thunderbird under Windows 8.1 platform, can you fix it???

I was wondering about all the crashing problems of my thunderbird performnance and when I finally when straight to Task Manager I found out it is a 32 bit version.
The thing is... when downloading it right from the site, it wouldn't give you the chance to choose between 32 or 64 bit .... It just starts to download !!!! I imagine there is not a 64 bit version !!! Right??????
Mine is Windows 8.1 and experiencing many many problems with it, please fix it .... It's really annoying

    Wrt 32 vs. 64 bit see http://kb.mozillazine.org/64_bit_builds

    What site?
    Always download Thunderbird from https://www.mozilla.org/en-US/thunderbird/
    ''experiencing many many problems''
You'd certainly need to explain what those problems are.

  • Which folder do I use to backup Thunderbird in Windows 8.1

Our previous notebook(which failed)was running Windows 7 and we would copy the 'profiles'folder
Our new notebook runs under Windows 8.1
Which folder do we copy (cannot find 'profiles')

Help menu (alt+H) > troubleshooting information
Press the show folder button under profiles.
Windows explorer is not in your profile folder.
As the location contains a random string it is impossible to say exactly where a profile is, But this method asked Thunderbird to tell you.
Needless to say it will default to a location below the Thunderbird folder is appdata. Appdata is a special application data folder provided by windows and hidden by default. The is a setting in windows to show hidden files and folders.

  • How do you return to the thunderbird main window in linux when it opens in a local folder?

I can find no option to return to the main window of Thunderbird 31.1.1 under Fedora 20. It always opens in the same local folder (the only tab displayed under "File Edit View .. " menu bar) that I was reading before yesterday's "logoff.". I tried restarting the computer. Help would be appreciated.

I think you aren't seeing the account folders pane.
On the menu, '''View|Layout''' and check ''Folder Pane''.
If you don't have a menu, hold down <alt> then tap l (lower case L).
The folder pane shows your accounts and their folders, and is, IMHO, essential for navigating around in Thunderbird.

  • Acrobat reader X with thunderbird under windows 2008 server

    Hi,
i use acrobat reader X under windows 2008 R2 . My Mailclient is thunderbird.
I get an error when trying to send an E-Mail. "Acrobat could not get a connection to your e-mail programm".
I defined thunderbrid as the standard mailprogramm under START->CONTROLPANEL->STANDARD-PROGRAMMS
I already tried to google the solution, but the only one i found was for Windows VISTA and Windows 7. There, you have not only to define the STANDARDPROGRAMM, you either need to make a change on "default programms and computerstandards" which is missing in windows 2008 R2
Can anyone please tell me how to use acrobat with thunderbrid in a windows 2008 environment????
    Thank you

    Hi Michael,
sorry for using the wrong forum. I'll post my question to the Reader board ...
To answer your question. That was my idea too, but it is not possible to copy a whole profile. They are a lot of other problems if you do that. I didn't find the settings only. may it would be enough to copy the settings for the reader.
    Best Regards,
    Markus

  • I have Thunderbird on Windows 8.1 and it will not allow me to open an excel spreadsheet from an e-mail.

If I receive an e-mail with an excel attachment on it or an attachment that has 'dat.' at the4 end of it, the attachment won't open when I try to open it. Most frustrating.

To get Thunderbird to open a dat Text file file using Excel.
Right click on attachment and choose 'Open'
A window opens asking what to use.
    select 'Open with'
click on the drop down selection and choose 'Other'.
A small window opens showing a selection.
If Microsoft Excel is not in the list, click on 'Browse' button
a window opens showing your 'Program files'
If your OS is Win8.1 and 64bit version and Office 2010 32bit version, to find Office programs the default path may say:
    C:\Program Files\Microsoft Office\ This is the 64bit version path for Win8.
It is also the standard directory if using Vista 32bit.
So if your OS is Win8.1 64bit version you need to choose the 32bit path:
    C:\'''Program Files (x86)'''\Microsoft Office\
locate and click on 'Microsoft Office'
    click on 'Office 12' folder
The number eg: '12' depends on the version: I have 2007
so if you use 2010 then it will be in Office 14 folder - list is below to choose correct folder.
    * 9 = Office 2000
    * 10 = Office 2002/XP
    * 11 = Office 2003
    * 12 = Office 2007
    * 14 = Office 2010
Now you should see 'Excel.exe' , This is the file you are looking for.
Select 'Excel.exe' and click on 'Open'
If you want Thunderbird to remember this and use it each time to open dat file, select the checkbox 'Do this automatically for files like this from now on.
    click on Ok
This will now open a dat file from the attachments in an email using excel.
It will be listed in Tools-Options-Attachments-Incoming tab.

  • I received an error trying to migrate from Outlook 2010 to Thunderbird on Windows 7 and my folders didn't migrate over. I get an error trying to import setting

I have windows 7 professional running MS office 2010. I have 3 email accounts that I send and receive mail. these are all IMAP accounts. I installed Thunderbird and tried to import everything and the contacts import ok (except for my icloud contacts) but there is an error when importing the settings. The mail seems to import fine however I can only access mail for one of the email accounts. The other two just show a folder and no subfolders in the mail tree iin the left pane.
When I try to look up the accounts, I only see one account configured, the other ones are not there

  • Can't open Firefox or Thunderbird after Window 7 update

A Kapersky update and a Windows 7 update clashed and turned off the program. I completed a system restore to two days prior, installed the update successfully, then reinstalled all the Windows 7 updates, 13 of them. Now I can't open Firefox or Thunderbird. The Properties/settings say the the Windows XP update is incomaptible with them. I'm not running XP, so I changed the settings to read Windows 7 for both programs. Still cannot open either one.

you would plug your device into your computer and back it up so you don't loose anything on it. And then in itunes there is a button to click to restore your device. This will erase your device and reinstall ios to factory settings and then from there you can load your backup to your device. This has helped me with any problems i have had with ios7

  • Acrobat 9 not connecting to Thunderbird in Windows 8

I have seen many posts from people where Acrobat will not send via Thunderbird.  This problem persists even while the email link works using other Windows apps and the mailto link on web pages.
The solution is simple.  Open "Contol Panel" in Windows Settings.  Choose "Programs".  Choose the main heading "Default Programs".  Choose "Set programs access and computer defaults".  Expand the "Custom" section.
Under the heading "Choose a default e-mail program", chose Mozilla Thunderbird.
Viola!  Restart Adobe Acrobat and your email button will no launch Thunderbird!

Yes, I am running the 64bit Windows 8.  Acrobat Pro has been updated to version 9.5.3.  Sorry I left that out.  Despite the update to Acrobat the mail pdf function did not work previously or with the updates, until I performed the change to the Windows settings described in the original post above.

  • Thunderbird 31: Windows 7 top window decoration broken when not using tabs

Just upgraded to Thunderbird 31 from the previous release on Windows 7.
The window decoration area at the top that you would normally use to drag the application around has disappeared, and only re-appears when you have tabs open. The minimize/maximize/close buttons are still present in either case.
Closing all tabs leaves you with an application that cannot be dragged around the screen (only resized / minimized / maximized / closed).
The workaround in the meantime is to simply leave the "Add-ons Manager" tab open.
Not entirely related, but this bug is NOT present on the 31.0+build1-0ubuntu0.14.04.1 that ships with Ubuntu 14.04 LTS.

I am including a montage of the current default screen with the menu bar visible. In that was does your display differ
