What Mac OS version is installed?
Are you connecting to the internet wirelessly?
Do you see any video defects when the screen is working?
These are important to our getting you the right info.

Thanks!
Your caches may be corrupted. Try a Safe Boot by pressing the Shift key. You should see a progress bar. It's important to let this Safe Boot run its course without interruption; otherwise, you can trash the file system badly enough to require a restore from backup. (Been there, done that. Lesson learned!) -
Screen appears dimmer after waking from sleep
Hi
Recently, I've noticed the brightness of the 24" screen is dimmer after waking from sleep, regardless of the brightness setting in the Display preferences. If I restart the computer, the regular brightness returns. Curious if anyone else is seeing this happen on their Aluminum iMac?This is normal. As already stated, after waking from Sleep, your screen gradually intensifies brightness until it reaches its full brightness setting. Sort of how GE Soft White Bulbs take a couple of minutes to warm up to achieve their final Lumens.
The reason it's instantly Bright upon Restart is that the machine goes through an initialization upon bootup where it performs a complete system check and ensures all settings are initialized and set according to your preferences. When Sleep is enabled (something I RARELY ever do) the machine lowers all operational parameters and upon waking, it slowly gets back up to speed.
Just like how putting drives to sleep causes severe lag once woken up before you can perform all functions at full speed.
Activating your screen saver is the best option. -
Macbook Air 2014 Black Screen w cursor after waking from sleep.
I just purchased a brand new macbook air this past week. I noticed within the first day of using that if my machine went into sleep mode, and I hit a key to take it out of sleep mode, it would go to a black screen with my cursor for about 30 seconds.
It does not do it every time but enough that it is annoying. I am coming from a mid 2011 mac air that did not have any issues. (only replaced for all day battery)
Do you think this a hardware or software issue? If i swap this mac out do you think I will just encounter the same thing?
I have read numerous posts regarding waking from sleep issues but they all seem to be affecting MacBooks purchased between 2012 and 2013.
Any help would be much appreciated.
NickUPDATE:
I called apple tech support and after talking a bit decided best course of action was to replace the macbook air as I was inside my 14 day buyers remorse.
I came home and hoped all was well when this one began doing the same thing. I made an appt with the genius bar to dive further in to this and we did a complete wipe on the computer and reinstalled the OS. The "genius" said I'm probably bringing something over from my previous mac air. (even though it never had this issue).
So after completely reinstalling the OS and setting up my macbook as new I pretty much lost all my settings and what not accumulated after 3 years with my previous mac. They did use Time Machine to at least bring my iPhoto library over and iTunes music.
It has been exactly one day since this was completed and the computer is doing the exact same thing. ***!!! -
2008 Mac Pro restarting itself after waking from sleep
Recently, my Mac Pro has taken to restarting itself unasked upon waking from sleep. I just moved to a town with a hot summer, and my room has no air conditioning and gets quite warm. Could the temperature in the room be causing this? I don't think so, because it happens in the cool of the morning after an all night sleep, too.
Another factor I just discovered is that one of my RAM chips has stopped showing up in the system profiler.Replace the pair of DIMMs first.
Monitor the temps inside.
Install and use SmcFanControl 2.2
Run Apple Hardware Test
You may want to try a clean system install to test with once you have the RAM replaced. Faulty RAM can cause all kinds of issues. And dirty files. Some deeper check for corrupt files than Disk Utility is probably in order.
There is a significant "Inrush-current" on boot and wake from sleep with the 2008s. They need good power, a 1500VA/900W UPS, and sensitive to other equipment on the same circuit.

Screen is pixelated after waking from sleep.
After having Genius Bar reformat hard drive, screen pixelates after awaking from sleep. Other than that all is well.
Take it back if the problem didn't exist before the geniuses mucked with it. Then, fire it up before leaving the store to ensure it works normally.

Gray screen with lines after waking from sleep or opening lid after closed
I have a 2.4 gHz Aluminum Macbook (Late 2008) with backlit keyboard running Lion. Every time I wake it up after the screen goes black or when I open the lid after I've been gone for a while, a gray screen with thin vertical colored lines appears (the lines are in different positions every time). I can hear sound when I press the volume buttons and I can eject CDs. Usually it fixes when I close it and re-open it. When I'm working with multiple monitors, it is nearly impossible to get out of- I have to unplug the Mini Display Adapter and THEN re-open it.
All I have seen on the internet is to update your OS but mine is completely updated. Maybe the screen is going out? I've reset the PRAM and SMC with no luck.
Any help would be appreciated, KoltonMy March 2011 MBP did the same thing.
After spending about an hour online with Apple Care without success, I did a reinstall of the Lion OS. It fixed the problem. I was concerned that I would lose data or settings, but the reinstall was seemless and everything was the way it was before the reinstall except that the "black screen on wake" problem was fixed.
I started the reinstall before I went to bed and it was waiting for me the next morning.
Here is a link to the page on how to do the reinstall:

Hope this helps. -
Screen Black after waking from sleep mode (after 10.4.11 update)
This issue has happened before with an earlier update (10.3.8 Delta fixed the issue originally), and I suspect it is the same with this current update.
Has anyone else had this problem with the new update and has there been a patch released to fix the problem yet? Hopefully we can get an update soon. This happens every so often to my 12" Aluminium PowerBook after sleeping (black screen, hard drive spinning away) and after trying every possible key combination and nothing helping, I'm usually left with the usual last resort, which is a hard restart. Of course that remedies the problem short term but unfortunately, only until the next time it happens. For me, it has been an issue since I bought it and is not affected by the OS.
I am wondering if it has anything to do with the clasp not working properly when the lid is closed. Sometimes I get the sleeping light, sometimes not - unless I play with the lid until it clicks shut. Then the light appears. Importantly, when the sleeping light appears, the machine always wakes properly with the lid opening. But I have noticed that when the light does not come on and I haven't bothered to shut it down properly, that is when the problem occurs. Which makes me wonder if rather than going into sleep mode it is actually going into hibernation mode due to non use? I haven't a clue but perhaps someone here knows far more about such things than myself? -
After upgrading to Tiger, freeze after waking from sleep on PM G4
My experience with Tiger in the past week as not been great. The reason I upgraded was to get iSync 2.1, so that my Moto E815 phone could be sync'd with my OSX AddresBook and iCal. This wasn't possible with the latest version of Panther.
So, I upgraded to Tiger 10.4.3, and now my G4 freezes immediately after waking from sleep. After pressing the 'return' key to wake the computer, the G4 sends a signal to wake the monitor, but on top of the screen saver is a black text box which states there was a problem I must press (and hold) the power button to restart the Mac. It's written in four languages.
When I installed Tiger, I used the 'archive' option.
My computer is a bit of a FrankenMac: Originally a G4/350 with AGP, upgraded with a Sonnet 1GHz G4 processor card, 1.12GB RAM, a 160GB HDD, an nVidia GeForce3 64MB AGP video card, Samsung DVD/CR-RW drive (Patchburn3) and a Belkin PCI card with 2 additional Firewire ports and 3 additional USB 2.0 ports. When I performed the upgrade, I had the keyboard and mouse plugged into the case USB 1.1 ports, a Logitech Notebook Pro USB camera plugged into the other case USB 1.1 port, and a D-Link BT120 USB->BT adapter plugged into one of the three USB 2.0 ports on the Belkin PCI card.
When I check the Console logs after the rebooting, I see a kernal panic in the panic.log. Apple has received this a number of times from me in the past week as I keep sending them 'talkback' logs after the fact.
I also see an error in the system.log which may reveal what is going on:

I suspect the problem where the USB devices are started, because I had that Bluetooth adapter plugged in at the time of the upgrade. I'm speaking of the lines in the log which start with 'USBF'. The keyboard and mouse are useless when the black screen shows up after waking from sleep.
I've tried some of the suggestions I've found for the iBook 'wake from sleep' postings on macfixit.com and here - resetting NVRAM and removing a few of the .plist files. This didn't seem to help.
I would greatly appreciate help in resolving this issue. I've been a Mac owner since the original Macintosh (it's still in my house) and am frustrated that this is the first problem I've encountered.
Thanks in advance for your help.Thanks. In fact I had bought a new keyboard and mouse (Macally) and sure enough, if I unplug it before it reboots, the CD drive door stays closed and I can boot from a CD! I did not try any of the other stuff. Is there any way to get it to stop this? Why does a USB peripheral cause the CD to eject anyway? Would love to know!

Black screen after waking from sleep mode - Compaq Presario CQ5110F
My mother's computer has been having the problem listed in the subject -- after waking from sleep mode, the monitor just stays black, and won't come back. After trying everything I could find online, I eventually found the bios update which claims to fix the exact issue. The problem is that I guess my mother had opted to upgrade to Windows 7, while the bios update seems to only work for Windows Vista, as I get the following error message: "Your system does not meet the minimum requirements for this update. Update has been canceleld. (9998)." I've tried running the update in Vista compatibility mode, with no luck. I've tried using a different monitor, I've updated all the drivers, Windows Updates are all current, I've cleared CMOS. Any idea on how to fix this? It's very recent; only for about the past 2 weeks has this been happening, while we've had the computer for over 3 years. It's quite a waste of energy to keep it on all day.
Hello liltwix,
When taking your computer out of safe mode the screen just remains black, is that correct? I will try to help you with this issue.
I understand you upgraded from Vista to 7, was that when the issue started or has the computer had windows 7 installed for some time before this problem started?
Please respond back at your earliest convenience.
Thanks

Kernal panics after waking from sleep on MBP
I have a client machine that continues to crash after waking from sleep. Most of the logs indicate its a USB driver issue but not all of them which make me question whether it is truly a USB issue.

Sorry for the huge post. The lightspeed kext shouldn't be causing problem as we use this program for all mac machines, I also did extensive troubleshooting with it. I did ask her to stop using the logitech USB device but she said it didn't make a difference, it was a plug and play device, would it still cause this issue without having it plugged in?
Thanks in advance for the help. Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a diagnostic test. It’s unlikely to solve your problem. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
The purpose of the test is to determine whether your problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Boot in safe mode* and log in to the account with the problem. The instructions provided by Apple are as follows:
Shut down your computer, wait 30 seconds, and then hold down the shift key while pressing the power button.
When you see the gray Apple logo, release the shift key.
If you are prompted to log in, type your password, and then hold down the shift key again as you click Log in.
*Note: If FileVault is enabled under OS X 10.7 or later, or if a firmware password is set, or if the boot volume is a software RAID, you can’t boot in safe mode. Safe mode is much slower to boot and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs. The next normal boot may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin. Test while in safe mode. Same problem? After testing, reboot as usual (i.e., not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of the test. -
Dark screen remains after waking from sleep mode
Whilst using Safari Version 3.1.2, Mac OS 10.4.11 on my Powerbook G4 (aluminum, 1.5 ghz), my screen remains dark upon waking from sleep mode. Trying to increase screen brightness is ineffectual for some reason likely related to this problem. My only workaround is to force shutdown and restart. Any ideas about a solution would be greatly appreciated.
Hi Gary,
This behavior is not a Safari issue but system related.
Close all applications an run in utilities> disc repair permissions.
After you done reboot an see what happens when your Mac gets to sleep mode again. This time don't open any applications to test it. Just leave it showing your desktop.
Post back with the results ...

Freeze after waking from sleep mode on MBP retina
After waking from sleep mode my MBP retina freezes for 3-5 seconds. Mouse and touchpad don't work. I wonder if it's mountain lion problem or hardware problem. Anyone faced this?
Just got a brand new model and OS X 10.8.2 (12C3012) and face the same issue, almost everytime it sleeps for too long. This is not a 3rd type SDD, this is a standard Apple SSD. I turned off the BT, I removed the almost every option from the battery saver mode. The current test is to disable the power nap - I will let you all know the result in a few hours.

Macbook pro 2010 crashes after waking from sleep
Hi,
I upgraded to mountain lion a month or so ago and ever since my MBP often crashes after waking from sleep. I've included the error report below. Any help would be appreciated. After it restarts, it works fine. Problem consistently happens after waking from sleep.
Thank-you

MacBook Pro (15-inch, Mid 2010): Intermittent black screen or loss of video -
Restarting after waking from sleep
I have a mid 2010 macbook pro running Mountain Lion OS X 10.8.3 of which keeps restarting after being left in sleep mode for an hour or two. When waking from sleep mode, the mac functions for about 5 seconds, before restarting by itself. I have tried deleting certain plist files (as suggested by other posts) but that doesn't seem to have helped. I have also recently installed a new hard drive, but i continue to have the same problem. Below is the panic report from the recent restart after waking from sleep mode:
