January software update unknown error -2

I just bought an iPod Touch and I am trying to apply the January software update. I continually get the error message:
We could not complete your iTunes Store request.
An unknown error occurred (-2).
Any help?

I tried the update on another computer and I got the same error. I also get the error on both computers: from the iTunes Store home screen, when I click on iPod Touch January Software Upgrade I see the error. I think it is some sort of connection problem. Maybe the Apple servers are getting hit with a lot of upgrade requests?

  • Lost January Software Update, how do I get it back?

Hey ya'll, im new to apple and its products, only be an apple user for 7 months, and am still planning on getting the new iPhone and Macbook Air when I get more money, lol. But, for now, only product i have is iPod Touch, and I just had this problem happen to me and dont know how to fix it. I just scrolled it from an email i sent to their support. Hope you guys can help me fix it.
    Thanks
"Hello. I am really confused now, so Ill just get right to it. Last night, when I hooked up my iPod Touch to my computer, my computer first recgnized it, however, when I went to my iPod no movies or no songs were on there. I unpluged it, pluged it back in. Then it says your iPod cannot be recognized, and so I had to format my entire iPod Touch, losing all my settings, and the 2008 January Software Update that I paid $19.99 for. So then, I go back into my iTunes account, after restoring it, and re-syncing all my songs and videos back to the iPod, and it says that I never paid for the January Update ($19.99), which I did, and 3 Metallica songs ($0.99/ea) that I purchased that same day. So then I go and try to put my credit info back on, to "pay" it off again, and it wouldnt let me, and said something about enter a vaild security code, which i did (the 3 numbers on back of credit card at the end in a box), numerous times. I would like to know how do I get my january oftware Upgrade back, as well as my 3 songs I purchased in January 2008."

First, see if the update is gone, or not being utilized:
The iPod touch January Software Upgrade can only be synced to iPod touch from the primary iTunes library. If the user is manually managing music and video on iPod, this is the computer where they first set up the iPod or first set it up after restoring the iPod. The "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file can be copied from the computer where you purchased it to your primary iTunes library computer, and sync the iPod from there.
    The file is located here:
    Mac OS X:
    ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile Applications
    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
    Windows Vista:
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
Note: These locations are hidden by default in Windows. You can these locations by choosing "Show hidden files and folder" in the View tab of the Folder Options Control Panel.
Now, if you can't get this to install, you can try to set your Touch to automatically sync instead of manually sync.
If that doesn't do it, login to your iTunes store account within iTunes, goto your account, and select "report problem"
They should be able to help you with the downloads and the update from there.

  • "software update"  "An error occurred while checking for updates"

When I click on "Software Update", an error results, "An error occurred while checking for updates".  It is definitely connected to the internet.  I was gifted a G5 and I installed a new hard drive and loaded the OS, OS X 10.3.5.  That version of Safari does not display pages correctly.  E.g., support.apple.com/downloads just clocks on the righthand side of the page.
Because cannot access that link, cannot manually update the OS - I was thinking this version is "old" and as a result, unable to connect to apple's update server.  Thanks.

Thanks,  I upgraded with your info.
Ultimately, I am trying to access mail.google.com but receiving  the following error with opera v9.5.x: Some important features may not work in this version of your browser, so you have been redirected to the Basic HTML version.
Safari gives the following: Some important features may not work in this version of your browser, so you have been redirected to the Basic HTML version.
I can access ask.com and using opera to type this response.

  • IPod cannot be updated Unknown error-48

Help - have installed iTunes 7.0.1 and am trying to keep ALL the music on my iPod so have tried to set the options to manual update. But although the computer senses the iPod is connected, when I try and drag new files to my iPod, I get the message "iPod cannot be updated Unknown error-48" Any advice gratefully received

    Hey!
Just an update since last week.
Still comes up with the "Unknown Error_48" when coupled to the Mac.Doesn't sync to iTunes and says it's upto date in the summary.Never had any issues like this (until iTunes 7 and 1.2).Kinda renders the whole iPod thing a bit useless.
Being able to update the library on your Pod is essential.Otherwise what's the point? My Pod still 'works'but not quite the way Apple intended I think.
    SORT IT OUT APPLE!!

  • How to troubleshoot Software Update Deployment Errors

    Hi Guys,
Could you guys please help me to troubleshoot 'Software Update Deployment Errors'. I have been trying to troubleshoot the below mentioned errors but I am not sure what step should I take for each different errors.
Could you guys please help me stating what kind of troubleshooting steps should we take for such update deployment errors.
    Many Thanks,

    You would have to examine client-side logs like UpdatesDeployment.log, U*.log in general, ScanAgent.log, WUAHandler.log, WindowsUpdate.log and CI*.log.

  • TS3198 iphone could not updated unknown error occurred(11)

iphone could not updated unknown error occurred(11) when restoring the iphone 3g. Please help.

When I search for the error code, everything leads to articles about the device being jailbroken, which would mean Apple doesn't support that device anymore. Can anyone confirm this?

  • Unable to reinstall January Software Update

I recently had to move to a new Mac after installing the January Software Update on the Touch. After ensuring I had all the songs and other content from the old machine I restored the iPod Touch wanting to rebuild all songs etc. from scratch. However, the January Software Update is gone, and I don't find out how to reinstall it.
I have read the support notes that automatically shows up, and checked that I have all the other updates and versions needed.
Every time I access the iTunes Store I am reminded that I can buy the update, but I already did. When I access my account (the same account I used to buy the update - I have only one), I see the purchase in the purchase history, but there is no obvious way to redownload it (the old download was on the old machine). So, I even tried to buy it again, but then the clever shop tells me I have already bought it and gives me no way to buy it again, redownload it or reinstall it. So I'm stuck. I cannot buy it. I cannot redownload it and I cannot reinstall it.
Has anyone an idea for a workaround?
    Toralf

The files are on your old Mac.
    See this:
The iPod touch January Software Upgrade can only be synced to iPod touch from the primary iTunes library. If the user is manually managing music and video on iPod, this is the computer where they first set up the iPod or first set it up after restoring the iPod. The "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file can be copied from the computer where you purchased it to your primary iTunes library computer, and sync the iPod from there.
    The file is located here:
    Mac OS X:
    ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile Applications
    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
    Windows Vista:
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
Note: These locations are hidden by default in Windows. You can these locations by choosing "Show hidden files and folder" in the View tab of the Folder Options Control Panel.
Once you have copied the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file to the computer with your home library, make a new folder named Mobile Applications in the correct location, and place the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file there. Open iTunes and sync your iPod touch.

Several users are reporting a server problem with Software Update. Why not wait and try again later today or tomorrow to see if the problem is resolved.
If the problem is on your computer then give this a try:
    Fix for Software Update
See Troubleshooting Automatic Software Update in Mac OS X.
    Delete the following files:
    /Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
    /Home/Library/Preferences/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.plist
/Home/Library/Preferences/ByHost/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate.xxx.plist where "xxx" is a number.
    /Home/Library/Caches/com.apple.SoftwareUpdate/ (delete entire folder)

  • IPod Touch - Reinstall January Software Update

NOTE TO APPLE: Your site is terrible; it's slow and hard to navigate. Also, it is nearly impossible to contact anyone from apple; you have so many webpages that are supposed to help people who are having problems. When really they just deter users from speaking to an actual representative and leaving your customers to fend for themselves, annoyed and angered.
    ANYWAY
My problem is this, in March I purchased the January Software Update for my iPod touch. Then for whatever reason, my iPod stopped showing up in iTunes. I was told the only reason to resolve this would be to hard reset my iPod, I did this (it didn't work but the problem was eventually solved)
Now I am faced with the issue of getting the January Software Update back onto my iPod without paying for it again. The purchase shows up in your records, and the file is no longer on my computer.
I purchased it on 03/07/08 at 9:33 PM and I have both the order number and the invoice number for this purchase.
How do I get the software update onto my iPod without paying for it again?

    Hi,
Note to ...MITCHELL... thanks for your help.
    Zach,
Your upgrade should reinstall if you auto resynch i.e. turn off "manually manage music and video" and synch. I think you have to be logged in to iTunes with your original Apple I.D. also.
If not check to see you have the correct files in the right places, see this post from [A A P L|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6646337&#6646337]
If you don't have the file anymore through OS reinstallation etc. then I believe you can notify Apple through a link on your iTunes purchase page. This answer has been posted elsewhere.
    Good luck,
    Dud.

  • 2.0-will it have the january software update?

i did not get the january software update for the ipod touch, which was stupid. Apparently i need it to get the apps. does anyone know if the 2.0 will have the january stuff and allow me to do everything? or is there only rumors of what is included? Apple should not have taken the january Software update off itunes.

Apple should not have taken the january Software update off itunes.
Of course, the alternative would have been for Apple to leave it on there, let you pay the $20 for it up until July 10th, then let you pay the additional $10 for the July Upgrade, including the very upgrade for which you had just paid $20. Wouldn't that have been fair of them? Just asking...
