January Upgrade backup question

Hi,
I have bought the January Upgrade and want to do a backup.
I have located the file "iPod Touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" in the Mobile Applications folder (Win XP), but ONLY has a size of 9,49KB. Can someone confirm this? (It seems to be too small)
Thanks!

Hello olahoz!
Well, yes this seams prefectly normal

  • Mail from the January Upgrade crashes on launch

    Hi Folks,
Having finally caved in and purchased the January upgrade last night (I was hoping for Apple to cave in first and make it free but I need to be able to access my mail when I'm away next week, so needs must) I cannot open Mail on the iPod touch.
When I click the icon on the home screen, it launches, shows the screen asking me which type of account I'd like to setup and then it crashes and dumps me back to the springboard. I gave up playing that game after a while and decided to try and set it up on my computer and sync the settings over. What happens now when I click the icon is it goes to a plain white screen with a grey/blue bar at the top and bottom, the bar at the bottom has an icon in the bottom left which looks like Safari's refresh button and a square with a pencil in it in the bottom right corner. That stays there for about a second and a half before crashing and going back to the springboard.
Having purchased the upgrade solely for the Mail program, I'm quite annoyed that it doesn't actually work.
Has anyone else seen anything like this? I've tried a complete restore but it didn't make any difference. Any other thoughts/suggestions please?

OK, no, it's the Home screen - hence the "Home" button.
Fair enough, it's just the crashlogs say the parent process is "Springboard"...mind you, regular OS X crashlogs list the parent process as "Windowserver" so I guess I stand corrected!
What have you tried so far?
    Reset?
    Yes...
    Restore?
...and yes, although the last time I did it I was asked if I wanted to restore my settings from a backup, which I did. I assumed I'd lose the new apps if I did that? I'll have a look at other discussions here re losing the new apps with a restore, and maybe try it out and see what happens...

  • Brand new ipod touch without january upgrade features included?!

I just bought my ipod sunday, it has john lennon on the box, model #A1213.
I dont recall what firmware it came with but I updated it to 1.1.4 as instructed by itunes summary page. Also I get an ad on start up of itunes to purchase the january upgrade. Shouldn't it already have the new features like mail, maps, the rearranging of the icons option, etc from the january upgrade?
Should I return the thing to the store and get a new one, or is this normal?

    Welcome to the Forums!
All iPod Touches are model A1213 (including my very early 8 GB model from when they were first released). So, yours was most likely produced before the January upgrade. Check the part number on the box - if it ends in /A (e.g. MA627LL/A), it won't have the upgrade installed. If it ends in /B (e.g. MA627LL/B), then it should have the upgrade installed.
An Apple Store won't sell the old ones, but 3rd party retailers that have them will sell them (rather than take a loss!). Some retailers sell them at a "discount" of $20 off the Apple price. You can certainly complain to the store and ask for a new one, or get your $ back and look for one in another store - just check for the part number ending in /B.
    Hope this helps...

  • Where is the January Upgrade for iPod Touch?

I have been attempting to download the January Upgrade for iPod Touch for days. I cannot find where to download it. Several people have given me links, but it gives me a message box that says it is unavailible in the United States.
    What do I do?

  • January Upgrade - Can you back it up?

If I purchase the January upgrade, is there a way that it can be backed up in case of one of the following scenarios-
    1) PC crashes and I have to sync iPod with different PC or I reformat my PC and need to reinstall iTunes and library
    2) Something goes wrong with the iPod touch and it has to be replaced
    3) If I have to restore my software to the original version and then update at a future time because of some glitch with iTunes.
    Thanks to all that answer.

    The file is located here:
    Mac OS X:
    ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile Applications
    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
    Windows Vista:
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
Note: These locations are hidden by default in Windows. You can these locations by choosing "Show hidden files and folder" in the View tab of the Folder Options Control Panel.
Once you have copied the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file to the computer with your home library, make a new folder named Mobile Applications in the correct location, and place the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file there. Open iTunes and sync your iPod touch.

  • 2 different computers but want January upgrade

Hello - my ancient laptop houses my email (no additional space & not worth more $$) but I sync my tunes etc with my husbands's laptop - both Windows XP. The Apple Store in Toronto said I could buy the upgrade, by loading ITunes onto the ancient laptop, get the upgrade & do the sync. But ... the Apple site clearly says the January upgrade's System Requirements are that you must load the January upgrade onto the computer you regularly sync with. What's right??? With thanks. Toronto Sassy.

In this case the Apple site is correct you need to sync with the computer you purchased the update on as it will have a small file called "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" and if this file isn't present when you sync then the new apps will be lost.
You could try this workaround as long as you use the same itunes account to log into, what you could do is copy that file to your other computer and make sure it's in the proper location C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USER NAME\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\ and then when you sync the apps will stay on the IPT.

  • Re-downloading january upgrade from iTunes? possible?

    Hello
I'd like to know if it's possible to re-download the january upgrade for ipod touch? I had to reset my ipod touch and therefore lost the upgrade and now I need to re-download it. But I haven't found a link for just re-downloading it, there's just the purchase link.

  • Lost january upgrade when i restored ipod touch, how do i put it back?,

I did the january upgrade a few months ago, and it worked fine. i restored my ipod touch and lost all the applications. Where on my mac computer is this located, under what name, and when i do find it, how do i restore it to my touch? thank you so much!

    Hi Laura,
I'm not so sure Jake has got that right, in fact way off.
Your Jan Upgrade should automatically reinstall when you "Auto" resync i.e.turn off "manually manage Music etc..." and then synch.
If not, it maybe because the necessary files are not in the right place, have you reinstalled or upgraded your Mac OS?
    Anyway, see these posts from A A P L [HERE|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6655671&#6655671] and [HERE|http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=6696784&#6696784]

  • Repeat of January Upgrade Problems coming with new apps?

    hey everyone,
i have been talking to a few of you about losing the january upgrade after an OS restore and an ipod restore, if you are unsure about this there are a few threads in this forum that talk about it. do you guys think that the same thing will happen when the new apps come out (fingers crossed). If we have to pay for them, will they be stored on our hard drives in a hidden file somewhere waiting to be wiped with an OS restore like the january upgrade?? what do you guys think??

The apps are easy to locate:
    The file is located here:
    Mac OS X:
    ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile Applications
    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
    Windows Vista:
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
Note: These locations are hidden by default in Windows. You can these locations by choosing "Show hidden files and folder" in the View tab of the Folder Options Control Panel.
Once you have copied the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file to the computer with your home library, make a new folder named Mobile Applications in the correct location, and place the "iPod touch App Pack 4A93.ipa" file there. Open iTunes and sync your iPod touch.

    thanks.

  • If I run the January upgrade, can I restore my iPod Touch?

If I have to do an emergency restore to my iPod Touch and I already have the January upgrade installed, would I have to pay for it again? If not, how would I go by downloading it again?

    Mac OS X:
    ~/Library/iTunes/Mobile Applications
    Windows XP
    C:\Documents and Settings\[user name]\Application Data\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\
    Windows Vista:
    C:\Users\[user name]\AppData\Roaming\\Apple Computer\iTunes\Mobile Applications\

  • January Upgrade Still Available?

I just recently decided that I would purchase the January Software Upgrade. I went on to iTunes to find that it is gone. Is there still a way to purchase the January Upgrade? I have searched the internet and apple website but haven't found anything.

The new 2.0 upgrade will be available ~ July 11th.
We don't know FOR SURE yet whether it will include these apps or not.
    Best to wait and see.
My GUESS is that it will.

  • New Computer and Paid January Upgrade?

Next weekend I plan on wiping my hard drive (for various reasons) and installing a significantly larger one. Obviously I will lose all my data, as well as iTunes.
I recently purchased the January Upgrade from the iTunes store, but will I have to re-purchase it, if for some reason I need to restore my iPod touch?
    Any answers would be helpful.
    Thanks-
    Ash

Just install Lightroom 5 on the new machine and activate it using the serial number from your purchase.  You do not need to have the older version installed though you might need information from it.
