Japan ISP and iChat help

Hi - if anyone here is in Japan right now I am seeking some help in connecting my home account to iChat .
I have an ADSL account with an ISP called PLALA here in Hakodate. The connection is good but I cannot do a number of essential things..
1. no iChat connection
2. no iTunes access to Music Store
3. no Real player access (BBC etc). Maybe the latter two will point to one issue?
My Japanese is zero so no way can I explain the issue to the ISP.
So, if anyone who is currently in Japan, maybe using Plala, and are mac uers that can offer advice I would be most grateful. I wish to reslove this personally before asking my colleagues.
A long shot ...maybe ...
Michael

  • AIM and iCHAT  HELP!!!

Just installed AIM on a DELL with Vista, trying to chat with a MacBook. AIM to iCHAT should work, right? But, iCHAT keeps screwing up and saying there's a communication error.

For the last several days, I haven't been able to log onto my screen name. I have a mac book pro and have kept my aim screen name and used it for my ichat as well. I have done this successfully for the last few months.
But now every time I attempt to log on to my ichat or aim I receive the same error message. "You have attempted to log in too often in a short period of time. Wait a few minutes before trying to login again." I waited about 10 minutes before attempting to log into ichat again and the same error message came up. I waited an hour and then attempted to log onto aim and the same error message appeared. I then decided to wait a day and try on a different computer and the same error message appeared when I attempted to log into my aim screen name on the mac and the dell computers.
However, I am able to log onto both ichat and aim using my friend's screen name. Therefore, it appears as though the problem is with my screen name and not with the computers connection or with aim as a whole. I really need to use the screen name as I have had it for over ten years and don't want to change it at this stage. Please help me fix this problem as I seem to have attempted everything.

Sorry, no idea at this point with so few details to go on. It will probably help if you'll post what version of Mac OS X you're running and who your email provider is. Someone then may have some ideas.

  • AIM and ichat, video not working

I have 2 aol email accounts and aim with those. I am a little confused on some things. First I have the free aol email and instant messenger. Nothing is downloaded onto my computer, I just signed up for an email account and set it up in mail and ichat. I keep seeing things about versions of aol, well I don't have a version downloaded.
Can this be the reason that I can not hear people when they conference to me? They hear and see me, and I see them, just no sound from them.
A friend of mine has same computer I have, bought his 2 days before I bought mine and he said he's had no problem using his ichat. then last night he started having problems and he said the only thing he did was run permssions repair. Which I had also done. So either the permission repair caused something to change that we can no longer use it or there is something else going on.
I have a linksys router, I have plug and play enabled, I have also tried enabling ports, there is no firewall. The friend has same setup and he NEVER went in and changed settings on his router, it just instantly worked. We also have the same ISP. No ports are being blocked by them. I have also enabled all ports to see if that would help.
the other person I can not connect to is another story. I need to get mine up and running before I work on hers. She has a wireless pc, and dsl..I am going to check her setting, aol version, and such once mine is proven to work with someone.
I also can not use big board games...I get a message that says I am behind a firewall (which I am not), I had also tried same thing with the ports, or it says that I have a translated network address. I am guessing that these problems are linked.
Another person that is a pc tech suggested I setup static ip for my computer and all that mess, and we tried it and still no fix.
Someone here suggested changing a setting in quicktime for streamline to be less than 1.5 it was set to 384 (or something) so I left it there.
Yes, all microphones where turned on..it is built in isight.

Well, this problem is solved, it took several different posts to get answers that worked.
But here is what got me up and running.
First, reason I can not connect to pc friend is because she is using the newest version on aim and she needs to be using 5.9 (tried finding who here told me that to give credit, but I can't find the info)
I don't know why I can't connect to my mac friend. I may be able to now that I fixed somethings, but he's not been online for me to test it out. However, he was able to chat with other people and then he changed some things and now he's not. So, when he is online again I will go over his setup as well.
Ichat would have worked with no special configurations for me, right out of the box. However, big bang board games will not let me get online and trying to get that online is where I changed things that prevented ichat from ever working.
If you are having this problem with linksys or netgear router..just turn on plugnplay in router configurations. It is usually on be default. No need to have ports enabled.
For you mac firewall, just have it turned on, no special ports being opened.
I do have bonjour chat checked in settings, but I am told that this does not need to be checked. Do not have apple remote sharing checked.
I do have 10.4.8 installed, so I did not need to go back to an older version.
This just boiled down to I turned my firewall off and never thought that would cause me not to be able to chat.

  • VoIP, PBX and iChat in Leopard

We've recently had serious problems with our ISP and BT at my work (in the UK), which has prompted us to consider changing ISPs:
    http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthreaded.php?Cat=&Board=whichbusinessisp&Number= 2617948
In the process I thought it would be worth looking into VoIP, but one thing I need to get to the bottom of is PBX when using VoIP. Can anyone offer any advice on potential solutions/alternatives?
What are the chances of iChat in Leopard supporting VoIP to ordinary telephones and some sort of built-in PBX system?
I've had a quick look at Asterix (which is compatible with Gizmo Project) http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Asterisk_PBX but it doesn't seem like the easiest software to install/maintain. Does anyone have any experience with it on Mac OS X?
    Our hardware currently consists of:
    10x Workstations running Mac OS X 10.4.7
1x Server running Mac OS X Server 10.4.5
Our current PBX system is BT's Versatality:
    http://www.htcnetworks.co.uk/BT%20Versatility.htm

Leopard Server's only just (finally) giving us multi-user calendaring... I think PBX/VOIP in OSX server might be a long way off
Commnigate Pro does VOIP & PBX out of the box (as well as being an excellent mailserver) http://www.stalker.com/content/realtime.htm
I've have not implemented their VOIP, only their mailserver (by far best mailserver I've ever admin'd). Here are the PBX FAQs form their site found this on their site:
    http://www.stalker.com/content/faq.htm#IPPBX1
The CGPro mailing list is a great resource... many mac sysadmins there who could help with pre-sales questions & initial config.

lots of people seem to be havgin a problem sending email from iCloud webmail.
does your email address have uppercase characters in it?
if so, try creating an alias in lowercase (go to preferences in iCloud webmail and select 'accounts') and see if email sends okay from that

  • Weird Line Spacing Issue in Mail App and iChat

All of the sudden, all of the lines of text in my mail app and ichat are all bunched up. It's impossible to read the content. Maybe my baby son pressed something but the font is tiny and illegible. Does this sound familiar to anyone?
    Thanks

    Hello Darryn,
I'm sorry to hear you are having this issue with your Mac. If you are seeing an unusual bunching or overlapping of text in multiple applications, it can often be due to a font issue. You may find the information and troubleshooting steps outlined in the following articles helpful, including one possible specific instance which may result in similar issues:

  • AOL and iChat work sometimes

I am trying to figure out why AOL and iChat work sometimes and other times it doesn't. I am trying to video chat with a family member and some of the time I can make a connection just fine and other times we get error code 8. If it was a firewall issue wouldn't it never work?

  • Safari and iChat won't work after lion upgrade

I just completed an upgrade to lion on my 2010 Mac mini and after reboot, safari won't open a web page..it just gets stuck with the blue loading bar about 1 inch from the left and iChat won't connect either.  I've repaired permissions and rebooted several times, checked for 3rd party add-ons and still they won't work.  Help! I need Internet again.  I'm posting this on my iPad 2 because I can't get safari to load a page or download another browser like chrome or firefox:(

OK... i had a quick look around and it seems many peoples various issues were solved by just restarting their macs a few times... i downloaded the java update from the apple support site and then restarted twice and everything now working perfectly.

  • ISight crashes both Photo booth and iChat

    Hello,
My iSight camera seems to be causing issues with Photo Booth and iChat. Both these problems emerged at the same time, so I believe that they're related.
iChat will login properly, but when I try to initiate video chat, the green iSight camera turns on... but promptly crashes iChat.
Photo booth ostensibly works fine in terms of taking regular photos and video recording, but none of the effects work; they appear as black screens. When you try and click on the effects, Photo booth crashes.
My computer otherwise recognizes the camera in System Profiler. I can also use the camera in GChat, via Gmail.
    Any ideas on what's wrong?

The PMU reset suggested in http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2090 usually helps such problems for MacBooks.
If not, repair permissions and apply the 10.5.7 COMBO update:
      http://support.apple.com/downloads/MacOS_X_10_5_7_ComboUpdate
Repair permissions IMMEDIATELY again after the restart that finishes the installation.
Then test iSight again. Repeat the Troubleshooting suggestions if necessary.

I have an iMac and a Macbook Pro. Downloaded Mountain Lion. Could no longer send mail messages. Checked my Mail preferences and they were correct. Just realised that with the SSL checked in the smtp set up, password authorisation is required and is put in the box immediately under the SSL checkbox, which is under the port(s) being used. Can now send mail:)

  • Safari and iChat features missing?

I am wondering if in Tiger Safari and iChat had the following features removed?
Safari, version 2.0.2: When I type an address I need to include the .com whereas I used to be able to type something like google and the browser would add the .com. Now, before I get the lecture about cache etc. I know all about caches. This is not about that. You used to be able to just type the name of the site and it would pull up—if it were a dot com. I have checked this on another machine running Panther and it still works there.
iChat, version 3.1: There is no login sound unless the application is open. In other words, I have the icon in the menu so I can be available, or not, easily. Previously, I would log in (from the menu) and get two sounds letting me know it was active. One for Bonjour and one for the Buddy List. Now, only if I have the application open (iChat not just being available in the menu) will I get the sounds thus defeating the purpose of the sounds the way I have it set up—I can see that it is active and do not need to hear it. I have tried trashing the iChat preferences and that did not help.
Edit: Matter of fact I do not think I get the sounds for people becoming active or not now that I think of it.
I have run diagnostics, Disk Utility, cron maintenance, cleared caches, erased History. Additional ideas are appreciated.

Still works. You don't need to type ".com"
