Japanese/C​hinese Font for PDF and MS Office files

Hi,
I have both the BB9860 and the Playbook, always uses the Playbook to download and read email attachments.
However, I realise that for  PDF and MS Office files, japanese/Chinese fonts are not supported.
Is there any way for me to download the add-ons and install into my playbook?

I'm using Bridge CS5 4.1.0.54 as part of CS5.5 Design Premium, have set the preferences in Bridge to show them, but there are no values in the metadata fields for dimensions in inch/cm. I don't know if this behaviour is normal or if there's something wrong with my installation...

    May be 'dimension' is not the right word/translation. In my german version it says 'Abmessungen (in Zoll)' or 'Abmessungen (in cm)', which should mean something like 'dimension' or 'size'. DIN A4, A5, US Letter, Legal etc. pp. in cm or inch.

    We are considering using DPS with a web content viewer for large PDFs and/or InDesign files. The client using a web viewer might have very limited bandwidth (some as low as 256Kbps). We ask:
    1 - How well does the web viewer perform with very large PDFs and InDesign files  (500 MB+) with limited bandwidth? Does the file stream in chunks and the PDF shows as soon as the first page or two are available, with the rest loading in the background, or does the entire file come down in one part and then shown?
    2 - Can PDF and InDesign files support thumbnail previews? For example, one image per PDF page and user can scroll forward and back.
    Your thoughts and comments are greatly appreciated.

    Hi Stephen,
    The way the web viewer works is that it converts the PDF/InDesign files to PNGs along with additional HTML assets. Assets are downloaded as they’re ready for a given page (e.g. first, page 1 is filled with its assets as they become available, then page 2, etc), so a reader wouldn’t need to wait for the entire article to load. The next few pages are also loaded in the background, so the reader wouldn’t be likely to notice lag as they flipped through pages to the next page after reading the current one. So the lag will depend on the size of an individual page.
    For your question around thumbnails, the web viewer does not load a preview image so the reader would need to wait for the assets I described above to load.

  • How to save for web AND overwrite original files with Action?

    I want to compress a batch of images with "save for web" using a Photoshop Action, and I also want to preserve my folder structure and overwrite source files. The structure is important because it's complex and needs to be structured this way.
    The Problem:
    When I choose "save for web", I must define a destination. What happens is all optimized files from within the structure are saved in a single location.
    Here's an example of the folder structure
    Folder A
         - Subfolder A1
         - Subfolder A2
    Folder B
         - Subfolder B1
         - Subfolder B2
              -Subfolder B2.2
    Folder C
         -Subfolder C1

    Is it possible for me to use a Photoshop Action with "save for web", and overwrite my files without moving them from the structure?

    No need to re-invent the wheel.
    Just learn how to use the Image Processor, Image Processor Pro, or Dr. Brown's Services 1-2-3 in Photoshop and/or Bridge.

    To answer the post title FireFox save all downloads automatically in the download folder, which you can find in the Documents folder. If you want to choose where to save your downloads go to tools>options>check always ask me where to save files.
    Secondly, I am assuming you have IE 8 installed as this is the only version that supports this fix that is currently not in beta. Go to control panel>internet options>advanced tab and reset the settings at the bottom. This may or may not fix the problem but it is a good first step.

    As with a lot of software, it depends on the version of Word, and what features the author used.
    Technically, Office 2010 for Windows and 2011 for Mac are supposed to be feature compatible. As are Office 2007 for Windows, and 2008 for Mac.
    However, if a person using Office 2010 / 2011 used a feature that only exists in that version and sends the file to someone using Office 2007 / 2008, they would very likely have trouble opening the file, or having it display as intended.

    I have trouble with font in illustrator and pdf.
    A customer sent me both Ai and Pdf files, the text are totally different.
    When I open the illustrator there is one font (Arial Narrow Bold), but when i view the pdf using adobe acrobat the text has changed to another font (Myriad Roman).
    The correct font is Arial Narrow Bold.
    It is very unprofessional to ask customer everytime what font they are using when they already provide me the Ai files.
    I want to know what happen when converting to pdf. Are there any setting in pdf I should be aware of ? so I can tell customer next time to avoid this mistake.

  • HELP! Converting fonts for preflight and end user review

    I want to make sure the fonts are either embedded or linked to the doc so the end user can review my file. Once it is ready for print, what are the steps to make it print friendly?

    If the client needs to edit the file, you need to send the original InDesign file. You can use the Package command in the file menu to gather all of the fonts (other than CJK or restricted fonts -- you'll see the warning) and images required for printing into folders along with the document. This does not alter the licensing requirements, though, that the other user must have their own license for each of those fonts to install them (which is why PDF is a much better solution in General as most fonts worth using allow embedding for viewing and printing in a PDF), as well as a copy of InDesign.
