Japanese characters in Dreamweaver CS5

Hi,
I am trying to update a webpage on my company's site that is in Japanese using Dreamweaver CS5. When I had Dreamweaver CS4, I was able to just copy the Japanese characters into the design view and they would show up fine, but now they are not. When I did it before, the pasted characters shows as hex code in the code view. The characters I just pasted still look like the Japanese characters now. I don't know what changed, and I haven't been able to find a message board that addresses this, as everywhere I've looked says what I did should work. Any suggestions are welcome. Thank you!

Hi,
to illustrate that it works I'll show you my draft with two characters:
http://hansgd.de/AdobTest/***.php
Feel free to use my source code.
Hans-Günter
P.S.
In my DW I can see thre "***", but the link works by clicking. If you have problems, insert "j a p" (delete spaces) instead of these stars.

  • How do I copy/paste Japanese characters from Word to ID CS5.5?

    I'm using ID CS5.5 as my layout program and helping my girlfriend lay out a children's book she's working on. She's a Spanish professor at a local university. So far, we've done the text in English, Spanish, French, Portuguese, and German. But she also wants to provide the book in Japanese, so had one of her colleagues, who is from Japan, translate it and provided the translation to me in the body of an e-mail, which I copied and pasted into Word. However, when I pasted it into the InDesign layout, I get the pink boxes with the "x", indicating that particular font isn't installed. I understand this. I selected one of the Japanese characters and checked the info in Word, finding that it is CJK Unified Ideograph, character code 69D8, keyboard shortcut 69D8, Alt+x. Here is the character: 様
    Here is one of the sentences in Japanese:
    カルロスです。ぼくにはしんゆうがいて、ジャバリとジョッシュといいます。ぼくらはいつもいっしょにあそびます。みためはちがうけど、にているとこもたくさんあります
    Is it absolutely impossible to accomplish our goal without having the particular Japanese typset installed on my system that he's using? It's showing up here and in Word. ????? I've done a search and did a lot of reading, but didn't find my exact issue, so just wanted to start fresh and hopefully get some helpful input. If this has been discussed before, I apologize, but didn't find it.
    Thanks
    DC

    Your line breaks will most likely be incorrect if you don't turn on the Japanese Composer.
    It is almost absolutely impossible to accomplish your goal without having a font - any font - installed on your system that has that glyph. However, if it's showing up in Word, than means that you must have that glyph installed, right? What font are you trying to use in InDesign? You might already know that Word will auto-substitute fonts when it encounters a missing glyph, so we really don't know what font is being used to render that one glyph. The whole sentence might be in MS Mincho but one glyph might be pulled from another font if MS Mincho doesn't have that glyph.
    That being said, you're going to break it if you don't know how to set Japanese type in ID. It's not something where you can just copy text out of email and paste into your English layout.

  • Dreamweaver CS5, charset, UTF-8 & Templates

    Greetings.
    I have a template-based site (a heap of pages inheriting from a single template). Everything is HTML5. The pages are UTF-8 encoded, and liberally employ Unicode characters such as em dashes, curly quotes, and curly apostrophes. DW is configured for UTF-8 as the default encoding (although that may only apply to new documents—I am unclear on that).
    As long as my template (and by extension all the pages that inherit from it) contains the following meta tag in head, I'm fine:
    <meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=UTF-8">
    If I remove that tag and update all the files, all instances of non-ascii-equivalent Unicode characters (all those em dashes and curly quotes and apostrophes) get trashed (replaced with garbage characters) throughout my files.
    If I replace that tag with its proper HTML5 equivalent:
    <meta charset="utf-8">
    …the same thing happens: all instances of non-ascii-equivalent Unicode characters get trashed (replaced with garbage characters) throughout my files.
    Unless I'm missing something critical—I hope I am—this situation suggests two problems. The small problem would be that DW5 doesn't support HTML5's meta charset tag. The big problem would be that DW5 doesn't handle text file encodings reliably and is prone to corrupt your files in batch operations unless you line everything up just so (whatever that is, exactly).
    Does anybody have any insight for me?
    Thank you!

    Hello.
    Dreamweaver CS5 fix many problem about charset.
    1. File save in program as UTF-8
    2. Set HEADER

  • Dreamweaver cs5 and PayPal Buttons

    Greetings,
    My website was created with Dreamweaver cs5. Customers who want to purchase a product from my website simply press the "Add to Cart" button and this takes them to the PayPal checkout.
    Here is the problem. If you click on ANY of the add to cart buttons for a particular product, the PayPal add to cart button adds a totally different, random product from my website into the cart. I have had problems with the add to cart buttons before. However, PayPal insisted that this kind of problem might be caused by Dreamweaver.
    Every time I need a new "add to cart" button, I create it in PayPal. PayPal generates a code that I then copy and paste into dreamweaver. A customer service representative for PayPal said that the problem might be arising because of a copy and paste issue. He said that dreamweaver sometimes changes things you paste into your code.
    Is this true?
    How can I fix this?
    Thanks in advance.
    Regards,
    Laila

    I, too, have been experiencing similar problems. On PayPal support call earlier in day, I was advised to go to prefs/Code Rewriting/ and uncheck the "Rename form items when pasting" checkbox.
    On doing so, I was able to test my problem page, http://www.screamingeagles.com/pages_02/invoiceMail.html and it worked in Safari, Opera, FireFox on two Macs, and Internet Explorer 8 on PC.
    Closed all sessions, feeling pretty good about the fix, but on restarting about four hours later, Same Same...well, almost the same. At this point, the first item on the dropdown failed, while the next three, item 2, 3, and 4 choices and prices, worked. They appeared on payment page and reflected the correct prices, but just would not add the first item to the cart.
    This prompted another call to PayPal support, and tech advised the same. On responding that I had already done that multiple times, he advised I contact DreamWeaver (Adobe) support as it was out of their scope of responsibility.
    PayPal support tech also regenerated my code, pasted it in his text editor, and it worked exactly as I had saved in my "Saved Buttons". So, that again supports that it's a DreamWeaver problem/bug/flaw...insert language as needed.
    I can't see any difference in the code itself (although I'm not an expert) so that led me to this post. The only other items within the Rewrite Code prefs that "might" influence it (in my prefs) is that I have checked:
    Fix invalidly nested and unclosed tags
    Remove extra closing tags
    Warn when fixing or removing tags
    Never rewrite code:
    Special characters:
    Encode special characters in URLs using %
    Unchecked items:
    Rename form items when pasting
    URL encoding
    On  my request, support tech also agreed that this should be escalated at his end to contact Adobe, as we agreed that it was unlikely that I would be the only person running into this problem.
    Looking forward to any response,
    Thanks,

    I regenerated the code for the payment button and pasted into Simple Text. The code had the <option value=(1) etc etc lines (on /invoiceMail.html that corresponded to lines 145, 146, 147, 148) indented. I then went into Dreamweaver CS5 code, pasted, and no indent visible.
    I manually indented each line four characters in, published, and that change seems to have worked.
    Can't say with certainty, but one of those actions worked. (Keeping in mind I had already recreated the PayPal code a few times.)
    Hope that helps somebody.

  • Japanese characters in JEditorPane HTML

    We have an application that displays HTML in a JEditorPane to take advantage of the font changes. The string starts off with <html><body><font face='Dialog' size='-1'><b>One of our translation testers is complaining that some of the Japanese characters look "jaggy" (I think because they look like italics to me). However, most of the Japanese characters in the same field look fine (albiet bold). At no point in the string to I switch to italic, in fact everything in this case is bold.
    We don't seem to have this problem anywhere else in our UI with traditional JLabels, JOptionPanes, etc. Is there something querky about JEditorPane and/or HTML rendering, the mapping of the Dialog font, or something? Any suggestions on anything else to check.

    Hi David, yes 'Content-type: text/html; charset=utf-8' is in
    the header...
    Thanks for the note on the poor Japanese translations,
    someone else is
    proofing it now.

  • Converting garbled characters for JAPANESE characters in a custom table

    Hi all,
    I have a custom table that store Japanese characters.
    After my company has upgraded to ECC6.0, this data in the custom table has become garbled and its alot of it garbled.
    Is there any SAP tool that can I use to make the correction on those garbled Japanese characters?
    Thanks,
    William Wilstroth

    Hi Nils,
    I really really really had a field day reading and testing around UC... To my dissappointment, I do not have the authorization to use SUMG and SCP too as well as a few of the TCODES...
    I finally told my higher level technical mgnt. that this table might need some changes...
    Has this problem of mine got anything to do with MDMP since its no longer supported in ECC6 and I found one coding that search for MDMP in RSVTPROT...
    My colleagues suggest that the data be corrected from table DBTABLOG... which i find, in my opinion, is not the right way...

  • Dreamweaver CS5 on Lion Opens but then won't work

    I'm using Dreamweaver CS5 with Lion 10.7.2 on a new iMac 3.4 GHz Intel Core i7. I've had the machine about 2 weeks and Dreamweaver worked fine. Yesterday what happened was that I can launch the program but cannot use it.  Anytime I click any menu item in the program like the file menu or help menu I get a spining ball. I can't open files in Dreamwever from outside or inside it. I can't do anything at all in Dreamweaver.  I wait a long time and the spinning ball doesn't stop.  I didn't do anything new except add ram to the computer and the ram works fine and shows up in "about this Mac"  and has caused no problems. This Dreamweaver is a part of CS5 Web Premium and whatever the problem is it has not effected Photoshop CS5.  In fact I have no problems anywhere else on my computer except for Dreamweaver.
    I've tried the following solutions that I saw in these and other forums and nothing works:
    1) in Dreamweaver preferences changed the following:
    [REMOTE DOWNLOAD]
    remotedownloadcachesize=50
    remotedownloadallow=TRUE
    to
    [REMOTE DOWNLOAD]
    remotedownloadcachesize=50
    remotedownloadallow=TRUE
    resolveremoteurltoipaddress=FALSE
    That didn't work so I changed it back.
    2) repaired disk permission on my hard disk from disk utilities, then verified the hard disk and it was ok, restarted various times.
    3) tried replacing preferences and app support from previous days in time machine when it work but no change.
    4) deledted com.adobe.Dreamweaver.11.plist from preferences.  That didn't work so put it back
    5) checked and remade permisions for user at ~/library/application support/adobe/dreamweaver cs5 but the permissions were already at read & write
    6) renamed ~/library/application support/adobe/dreamweaver cs5 folder and restarted Dreamweaver
    7) renamed ~/library/application support/adobe/dreamweaver cs5/en_US/Configuration and restarted Dreamweaver
    8) deleted ~/library/application support/adobe/dreamweaver cs5 and restarted Dreamweaver
    9) uninstalled Dreamweaver using Dreamweaver's uninstall app and reinstalled it from my disk and updated it.
    10) tried using Dreamweaver from a different user login and it worked, but I need it to work in THIS login.  I can find no way that this user is corrupt.
    I hope someone has an idea of what to do.

    New info. My husband just installed the older version of Firefox, and it is also not responding. Again without ever seeing a request for a response from him.

  • Downloading and editing an existing WordPress site in Dreamweaver CS5.

    Hello! New to the forums, here.
    I'll try to be brief. I've got a WordPress site in-place at metalmeter.com that is hosted through HostGator. Basically, what I'm looking to do is get the site from the remote server and edit it in Dreamweaver CS5, previewing all changes on a local testing server before putting the updated contents back on the remote server.
    Now, let me be clear: I've tried plenty of the tutorials. I've watched hours of videos. I still can't get it configured properly. I've got the FTP connection to the remote server running smoothly. I've got XAMPP installed. I'm having difficulties (and I apologize for being vague), and I just don't know where the problem is located. In my htdocs folder for XAMPP, I've got two subfolders 'metalmeter' for the remote server's downloaded contents, and 'wordpress' for the wordpress installation that every page seems to be pointing me toward. What confuses me is that when I try and open the uppermost index.php file on the remote server, the dynamically discovered content is not being displayed in the live view with my local testing server. I want to be viewing my existing WordPress site in its entirety exactly as I see it online while I'm editing it, and then pushing back updated files to the /public_html/ root directory of the remote server so that I can edit the site from my local client. I'm extremely new to Dreamweaver, so any help you could offer would be greatly appreciated.
    If you know how to do exactly what I'm trying to do and have been successfully viewing and editing your existing WordPress site in Dreamweaver for upload, please take some time to explain the set-up. I'd be forever in your debt!

    I've been following this discussion for a while now and I don't understand why you hope to edit articles from DW.  That's what the WP Admin panel is specifically designed for.  Besides, you won't find your articles in any of the site files because they don't exist there.
    I agree I don't see any reason to want to edit a Wordpress site in Dreamweaver. If you are using Wordpress then you may as well put Dreamweaver in the bin. Although people do actually want to edit and manipulate the design in Dreamweaver (including myself) and from what I've read its possible but I've never found a source which explains fully how to achieve this and those that I have it seems too much effort to even bother about.
    I guess the Dreamweaver environment feels more like home and is more user friendly.
    To put it another way, a typical WordPress installation contains around 800 files in some 80 folders.  Those files don't contain any content, just a whole lot of PHP code.   In fact, the only page most people ever see on your site is the index.php page which is dynamically created over & over by the server with content from the MySql and various include files.
    For sure and that's why people who use Dreamweaver and feel the need to manipulate a Wordpress site in Dreamweaver because Wordpress is 'in vogue' get lost. Wordpress just containes a lot of pages with nothing to see apart from some php, many of who will not understand one jot.
    Unless you're a coding guru, you should definitely NOT touch any of the core WP files as this could cripple your site.  If you want to customize your Theme, look at the CSS and include files in your Themes folder.   See Anatomy of a WordPress Theme:http://yoast.com/wordpress-theme-anatomy/
    lol your not wrong there!
    For a quick tip on Theming, open your remote site in Firefox equipped with the 'Web Developer Toolbar'.  Edit CSS on screen.  Save changes to your local site and upload it to the remote server.  No testing server required.
    Wordpress is Wordpress and Dreamweaver is Dreameaver. As far as I can make out the two don't mix.
    Ideally you would just choose a Wordpress theme which most relates to the nice site you have designed in Fireworks of which you won't find any however goodthe themes are. Then manipulate the themes css that's if you can understand it. Even for a seasoned css expert its heavy going because everyone produces css differently to achieve the same results.
    Leave Wordpress well anlone unles you're going to use it out of the box so to speak or as a web-developer don't mind a bit of reverse engineering.

  • Tutorial Dreamweaver Cs5.5 The Missing Manual (Pg 998 - 1018) about adding dynamic data to your page

    Hallo,
    I did Tutorial: Displaying Database Info in the Missing Manual for Dreamweaver CS5.5.
    My problem is with "Editing a Recordset and Linking to a Detail Page" (which starts at pg 1002:
    I did this exercise ,over 5 times nowe, but every time with "Building the Detailed Product Page" at pg 1007, I get a bad result.
    I only get one page (the default one with productID = 1) for every link on the indexpage.
    In the adressbar (Live View) I see the right adress: for example: http://localhost/cos...hp?productID=16, but for all productID's only the detailspage for productID are shown.
    There is also a message: Notice: Use of undefined constant ‘productID’ - assumed '‘productID’' in E:\xampp\htdocs\cosmo_shop\product.php on line 34
    But I don't understand what could be wrong in this line.
    Here is the code lines 33 -48: is is about the second line:
    $varProduct_rsDetails = "32";
    if (isset($_GET[‘productID’])) {
      $varProduct_rsDetails = $_GET[‘productID’];
    mysql_select_db($database_connCosmo, $connCosmo);
    $query_rsDetails = sprintf("SELECT products.productID, products.productName, products.price, products.`description`, products.inventory, products.image, vendors.vendorName FROM products, vendors WHERE products.vendorID = vendors.vendorID AND products.productID = %s ", GetSQLValueString($varProduct_rsDetails, "int"));
    $rsDetails = mysql_query($query_rsDetails, $connCosmo) or die(mysql_error());
    $row_rsDetails = mysql_fetch_assoc($rsDetails);
    $totalRows_rsDetails = mysql_num_rows($rsDetails);
    mysql_select_db($database_connCosmo, $connCosmo);
    $query_rsCategories = "SELECT * FROM categories ORDER BY categoryName ASC";
    $rsCategories = mysql_query($query_rsCategories, $connCosmo) or die(mysql_error());
    $row_rsCategories = mysql_fetch_assoc($rsCategories);
    $totalRows_rsCategories = mysql_num_rows($rsCategories);
    ?>
    Can someone tell me what is going on here?
    Kind regards, Ans Hekerman

    I can manually type in double brackets, like this:
    $varProduct_rsDetails = "1";
    if (isset($_GET["productID"])) {
      $varProduct_rsDetails = $_GET["productID"];
    this is accepted; no syntax-error report.
    I can manually type in single brackets, like this:
    $varProduct_rsDetails = "1";
    if (isset($_GET['productID'])) {
      $varProduct_rsDetails = $_GET['productID'];
    this is also accepted; no syntax-error report.
    Dreamweaver itself made this code:
    $varProduct_rsDetails = "32";
    if (isset($_GET[‘productID’])) {
    $varProduct_rsDetails = $_GET[‘productID’];
    this was not OK; there was a syntax-error report.
    But strange enough, when I do paste this now from here, it is accepted.
    So the problem has been, that DW created code that gave a syntax error.
    I could repair it by replacing the single qoutes of DW, by typing single quotes in DW manually, or by typing in in DW manually double qoutes!!!
    So maybe everybode was right!!!
    But is was a very bad problem; maybe a "bug" of the program?
    I repeated this about 10 times before I got the solution frome this Forum.

  • Oracle Report Server Issue with Japanese Characters

    We are trying to setup a Oracle Report Server to print the Japanese characters in the PDF format.
    We have separate Oracle Report servers for printing English, Chinese and Vietnamese characters in PDF formats using Oracle Reports in the production which are running properly with Unix AIX version 5.3. Now we have a requirement to print the Japanese characters. Hence we tried to setup the new server for the same and the configurations are done as same as Chinese/Vietnamese report servers. But we are not able to print the Japanese characters.
    I am providing the details which we followed to configure this new server.
    1.     We have modified the reports.sh to map the proper NLS_LANG (JAPANESE_AMERICA.UTF8) and other Admin folder settings.
    2.     We have configured the new report server via OPMN admin.
    3.     We have copied the arialuni.ttf to Printers folder and we have converted this same .ttf file in AFM format. This AFM file has been copied to $ORACLE_HOME/guicommon/gk/JP_Admin/AFM folder.
    4.     We have modified the uifont.ali (JP_admin folder) file for font subsetting.
    5.     We have put an entry in JP_admin/PPD/datap462.ppd as *Font ArialUnicodeMS: Standard "(Version 1.01)" Standard ROM
    6.     We have modified the Tk2Motif.rgb (JP_admin folder) file for character set mapping (Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-1=UTF8) as we have enabled this one for other report servers as well.
    Environment Details:-
    Unix AIX version : 5300-07-05-0831
    Oracle Version : 10.1.0.4.2
    NLS_LANG : JAPANESE_AMERICA.UTF8
    Font Mapping : Font Sub Setting in uifont.ali
    Font Used for Printing : arialuni.ttf (Font Name : Arial Unicode MS)
    The error thrown in the rwEng trace (rwEng-0.trc) file is as below
    [2011/9/7 8:11:4:488] Error 50103 (C Engine): 20:11:04 ERR REP-3000: Internal error starting Oracle Toolkit.
    The error thrown when trying to execute the reports is…
    REP-0177: Error while running in remote server
    Engine rwEng-0 crashed, job Id: 67
    Our investigations and findings…
    1.     We disabled the entry Tk2Motif*fontMapCs: iso8859-1=UTF8 in Tk2Motif.rgb then started the server. We found that no error is thrown in the rwEng trace file and we are able to print the report also in PDF format… (Please see the attached japarial.pdf for your verification) but we are able to see only junk characters. We verified the document settings in the PDF file for ensuring the font sub set. We are able to see the font sub setting is used.
    2.     If we enable the above entry then the rwEng trace throwing the above error (oracle toolkit error) and reports engine is crashed.
    It will be a great help from you if you can assist us to resolve this issue…

    Maybe 7zip or another tool has workarounds for broken file names, you could try that.
    Or you could try to go over the files in the zip archive one-by-one and write it to files out-1, out-2, ..., out-$n without concerning yourself with the file names. You could get file endings back via the mimetype.
    This script might work:
    #include <stdio.h>
    #include <zip.h>
    static const char *template = "./out-%04d.bin";
    int main(int argc, char**argv)
    int err = 0;
    zip_t *arc = zip_open((const char*)argv[1], ZIP_RDONLY, &err);
    if(arc == NULL)
    printf("Failed to open ZIP, error %d\n", err);
    return -1;
    zip_int64_t n = zip_get_num_entries(arc, 0);
    printf("%s: # of packed files: %d\n", argv[1], n);
    for(int i = 0; i < n; i++)
    zip_stat_t stat;
    zip_stat_index(arc, i, ZIP_FL_UNCHANGED, &stat);
    char buf[stat.size];
    char oname[sizeof(template)];
    zip_file_t *f = zip_fopen_index(arc, (zip_int64_t)i, ZIP_FL_UNCHANGED);
    zip_fread(f, (void*)&buf[0], stat.size);
    snprintf(&oname[0], sizeof(template), template, i);
    FILE *of = fopen(oname, "wb");
    fwrite(&buf[0], stat.size, 1, of);
    printf("%s: %s => %lu bytes\n", argv[1], oname, stat.size);
    zip_fclose(f);
    fclose(of);
    zip_close(arc);
    return 0;
    Compile with
    gcc -std=gnu99 -O3 -o unzip unzip.c -lzip
    and run as
    ./unzip $funnyzipfile
    You should get template-named, numbered output files in the current directory.

  • Dreamweaver cs5 problems and adobe support close the case on you

    I emailed Adobe support with the message below and they closed the case on me and told me to go over to the developers connection website and open a case there. Well of course there is no where to open a case there, it brings you back to the normal support pages, so I opened a case again!
    This is just one of the flaws in Cs5 I've found from intensive useage yesterday.
    1. Hangs for nearly 2 minutes if you use an external link to ny file like jquery in the header of the pages - detailed below
    2. Sometimes when selecting a related file it says "not on server" and actually tries to open ANOTHER ftp connection listed. It switches connection and then says"not on server" - well of course not....because it just changed to another server! However many time you change it back, it won't have it.
    3. The pop up css is a good idea but not well thought out. I have to right click to get inspect but when I roll over the areas it doesn't show the css in the css panel. If I right click and select to show the code, it shows me the css, I then have to click it to select it in the left column. All very long winded... WHY NOT JUST CLICK AN AEA ON THE LIVE VIEW PAGE AND IT SHOWS THE CSS THERE INSTANTLY TO EDIT?!
    4. On first open after a quit and relaunch, or restart, switching from normal view to live view hangs Dreamweaver for over a minute before live view is displayed.
    Very very buggy and I feel I have paid for a beta version.
    Hello I now have Dreamweaver CS5.
    It has MAJOR flaw.
    If a webpage contains the code
    <script type="text/javascript"
    src="http://code.jquery.com/jquery-1.4.2.min.js"></script>#
    It takes over 1 minute to open each page after launching
    This is caused by the 'related files' facility
    THIS IS TOTALLY UNACCEPTABLE in software which is this expensive.
    All design companies such as us use jquery.
    Please fix this flaw asap or supply me with a fix. Turning of related files
    helps but if I was to do that what would be the point in
    having that facility? (which I am paying for!)

    Appreciate your reply and accept what you say, I'll take on board the suggestions.

    Second, the Bug Report form is here: https://www.adobe.com/cfusion/mmform/index.cfm?name=wishform .  Technical support is not a bug reporting center, nor are they developers which is why they probably closed your case. And there really are not any questions in your support request it reads like a bug report and an angry one at that, not even starting out calm, shouting almost immediately.
    - Frustration, I've been up all night, hours messing with it.
    Thanks for the link, I'll post to that. I personally don't agree that bugs this big should be present in software of such high upgrade fee's and which should have been tested but I guess we all know its the way of the world now.
    1.  Why are you working with remote website files that are not part of your domain and not in your local site?  This is a bad practice to get in the habit of.  If their website shuts down, so does the functionality of yours.  Many here will argue that point.
    - This is a valid point I've come across before and reading up on it I found it was said that the site in question was on cloud servers, mirrored etc. The link I posted was from someone elses post who was having a similar problem. I personally use the flowplay/jquery main link which has ALL the jquery plugins/effects so whatever is used on that page works.
    http://cdn.jquerytools.org/1.1.2/full/jquery.tools.min.js
    We did this as it seemed that was what everyone was doing, it seems I am wrong and I take on board your comments about downloading the file.
    2.  "Sometimes".  That is the key word in your statement.  Sometimes it happens, sometimes it doesn't.  What happens when it says "Sometimes not on server" and what happens in the other times.  What's different?  It's usually hard to believe it's random luck.  But developers in a bug report need to know these things.  What's different about the file(s)?  Is it with certain file(s), type(s), etc?  How would it open another FTP connection, do you have multiple FTP locations defined within one site definition?
    I probably used the wrong word in 'sometimes' - A better description would be "some of the related files". When live view is on the right and code on the left, related files across the top. If I hover my mouse over the files, it tells me where they are. This info is incorrect on 'some' of the files, not all of them but about 8 out of 10.
    It shows the file as being in the folder of another account in the site defs, but its not in there, it's in the one I'm working on (and which is live in the ftp file window). So if I click on the file to view it, it says its not available, and asks if I want to download it from the server. That doesn't work because it then tries to switch the ftp connection to the other site and download.
    I thought it was muddled so I removed all the ftp sites and set up just one, the one I was working on. But that didn't work... it then thinks the related files are in "unnamed site 1" - anywhere but looking in its own folder or on its own ftp server!
    4.  You seem to be referring to Question #1 here so that is answered.
    "Please fix this flaw asap or supply me with a fix." - So you are saying Please fix this flaw with a patch or give me the patch.  Again, this sounds like you want to file a bug report and not create a support request.
    - Accepted, you are right, its a bug report, just they directed me to the developer website and I kept ending up here, so began to believe this is where I should be posting.
    "All design companies such as us use jquery".  - While I wouldn't be so quick to say all, but rather most, I would say see my answer to #1.  Why make your site dependent on someone else's?
    - Accepted, I appreciate your honest comments and critism and fot taking the time to reply :-)

  • How do I set up a 2 column fixed, left sidebar... in CC Dreamweaver based on one of the 16 samples in Dreamweaver CS5?

    I am in Graphic Design school and we are studying Dreamweaver CS5.  One of the projects is to create a new page based on one of the 16 samples available which is the 2 column, fixed, left sidebar, header and footer option.
    However, in CC Dreamweaver, I only see the 2 column, fixed, right sidebar option.

    Change line 62 to
    float: left;

  • How can I get Japanese characters to show up for my music in iTunes?

    I am not exactly sure what generation my iPod is, but it says copyright 2004 on the back. It is 20 GB. It has no problems displaying Japanese characters if a particular song of mine is Japanese. I have my iPod set up to manually manage music. I like to carry my iPod between home and work. At both home and work, I use PCs with Windows XP Pro installed. I also use the latest version of iTunes (ver. 7.1.1.5).
    However, I have run into a weird problem. On my home computer, my iTunes displays Japanese characters perfectly fine, but on my work computer, whenever there is a Japanese character, iTunes does not recognize it and puts an ugly "square" character in its place. How do I get my iTunes to display these Japanese characters properly?
    Thanks.

    Well I just answered my own question. I needed to install the files for East Asian languages via the WinXP Control Panel. So if anyone else runs into this problem, there ya go!

  • How do I change an image border color to another color - Dreamweaver CS5?

    Good day,
    I have just learned how to add a border to an image with Dreamweaver CS5 within the Properties Inspector.
    After typing the width in pixels in the Border Text Field and pressing the Enter key, Dreamweaver created a black border.
    How do I change the image border color to another color?

    I added your suggested rule to the Style Sheet "in any order" as you explained. See the image below.
    However this did not change the image border from black to light blue. In fact, nothing changed.
    Nothing changed because the CSS that has been written into DW is incorrectly written.
    You want the following (exactly as written below)
    img {border: 4px solid #0062C8;}
    You've inadvertently wrapped the rule inside a #main_image container rendering it meaningless.
    It's easiest to go into Code View and change
    #main_image {
         img {border: 4px solid #0062C8;
    to
    img { border: 4px solid #0062C8; }
    The Property Inspector added a border exactly as I wanted it, other than the color I wanted the border to be. What is the use of this function in Property Inspector if it can add a border within Property Inspector but not let me change the COLOR of the black border that Property Inspector added, to another color?
    That's a deceptively simple, yet valid, question with a long answer.
    Back in the dark old days of web design web designers were restricted to inline HTML formatting which offered  border properties but no colors.
    CSS styling offers colors and more but has to be written differently.
    These days. it's best to avoid HTML formatting. Unfortunately border="4px" in the PI still allows it. But does not permit color.
    Does anyone else out there ever add color borders to their IMAGES (not the containing box for the image) ?
    Yes, using CSS.
