Japanese Font won't work

Hi guys,
I would like to use the Hiragino (That's what the Japanese font is called on my Mac) font in Pages, however every time I select it it's ignored. How can I activate that font? Pretty much none of the fonts that are used in other languages work. Neither the Hebrew one, neither the Philippino, none of them.
Thanks for any input.

This is perhaps a silly question, but are you using the Japanese Keyboard layout? (System Preferences > International > Input Menu)

  • Embedfont = true; Japanese font is not working in Flash CC

    Hi,
embedfont = true; was working in Flash CS6 (window XP, 32bit, Air SDK 15.0)
But I moved same project to new system. Then, it's not working. (Flash CC, window 7 pro, 64bit, SDK 17.0).
textfield shows nothing. But if I remove this code (embedfont = true;). Textfield shows texts applied default fonts.
Funny part is English and Korean(My language) Embedfont is working perfectly.
Only japanese font is not working.
I've tried several japanese font, but all of them were not working.
    Any Idea would be appreciate.

Amy~ Yep the lasso tool was what I verified with another user. 'L' seems to be bound indefinitely to loop through different types of lasso tools and it was annoying them because they just wanted L to be the regular freehand lasso. I removed 'L' from being an option on the polygon lasso and even set it explicitly to SHIFT+L as well as set the lasso tool to a completely different keyboard combo. 'L' still cycled through lassos haha. It needs some fixes.
fertolg~ At least you have a workaround for now. I'd go nuts if I couldn't use keyboard text selection writing code, oy! You're welcome and if you're all set please mark correct so we can filter unanswered. Good luck!

  • System Fonts won't work

I have a set of fonts that I need to use for a client's logo design.  When I switched over from my MBP to this newer iMac, not all of the fonts in the font book are working.
I've  gone to several tech blogs and inquired about the issue and have gotten good advice but none seems to be the answer to my dilemma.  In the FontBook, I can see the following:
    New Peninim
    Ariel Hebrew
    Corsiva Hebrew
    Raanana
    Israel
But, when I try to engage them in either Photoshop or Illustrator,  nothing but blank boxes seems to come up.  Can anyone offer any kind of assistance.
    Thank you so much,
    Andre

No, these are fonts used by everyone who wants to write the Hebrew language, or display it in any normal email, webpage, or text document.
Apple has never supplied Hebrew fonts where you just type with the US keyboard and switch the font to get the characters.   To my knowledge, non-standard Latin encoded fonts like that are mainly used by a few older bible study apps and sites.
Just go to system prefs/language & text/input sources and check the box for Hebrew qwerty, plus the box for Show Input Menu in Menu Bar, and then select Hebrew qwerty in the "flag" menu at the top right of the screen and type away and see if you get Hebrew in your apps or not.
If you need to create real Hebrew text paragraphs in Adobe apps, the ME edition is normally advised.

  • Fonts won't work!!

I'm having a hard time figuring out why most of my fonts wont work anymore- just last nite my fonts some of my fonts just stopped working. In ichat, iwork, textedit, etc. no matter where i try some just wont work- for example: i can use times, but not times new roman. please help me!

    Hi Kenvin....
Are you using anything for font management?
One thing you might want to do is use something like Yasu or Onyx to clean font caches.
    That might clear things up.

  • Cambodian fonts won't work in inDesign CS5

Hi! I am unable to get inDesign to replicate correct Cambodian fonts. I've downloaded a wide variety and though they are correct in word, they do not work in inDesign, the differences are very small, a few missing characters, incorrect symbols, etc.  I've attached a photo of what the font should look like (top) and what it comes through as in inDesign (bottom).  Look at line two, in inDesign note the missing j-like symbols and crosses that don't belong but are replacing something else. I feel like I've tried everything and nothing is working. Please help, I would greatly appreciate it!!

First, he sent it to me in the Khmer OS font and I got the missed characters and odd symbols in inDesign. Second, he re-wrote it and sent it to me in the Kh Moul font with the same results on my end.
Long story short - Unicode fonts like the KhmerOS font should work if the world-ready composer is on. I don't recognize "Kh Moul" but you can test to see if it should work. If you open up the Glyphs menu (Type -> Glyphs) and pick the Cambodian font of your choice, and then hold the mouse over a character, it should report the name of the character in a mouseover popup. If you see something like "LATIN CAPITAL LETTER OE" or something like that, or no character name at all, it means it's a bad font and cannot be trusted in InDesign. Most of the Cambodian fonts I've seen are font-hacks like this (where the English letter is erased and replaced with a Cambodian character). I've made those work in the past, but it usually requires editing the font.
Double whammy, I also need to make this work for chyron (television graphics). I'm hoping if I figure out inDesign, it will use the same fix.
The World-Ready Composer turns on some features of InDesign that allow it to support complex scripts like Cambodian, if the font is constructed correctly. It's a feature of InDesign, so if it works, you won't be able to assume that it will work in any other application. I searched the Chyron knowledge base and found nothing, but nothing, about Unicode or complex script fonts or anything like that. You'll probably need to make images of your text, so you will need to find out the target specifications from whomever is setting this up for you. If you have that spec but don't know what to do with it, I'm sure that we can help you figure out how to spit a file out of InDesign that the teevee people will be able to use.

  • OpenType font won't work in PDF created from PM 7.0.1a file

Per my client's request, I had to purchase a lovely new OpenType font, AJenson Pro, for a book project I'm paging using PageMaker 7.0.1a in Windows XP. First it wouldn't print on my postscript HP laser printer, but downloading an updated printer driver from the HP web site easily fixed that problem. But I have done everything I can think of and I can't get the new font to appear in a .pdf created using Acrobat Distiller 5.0.5, which came bundled with PageMaker.
The font shows up in the finished .pdf as boxes with X marks in them instead of letters! I'm not trying to use anything but standard characters (no glyphs, etc.) in the font. I've been using PageMaker and creating .pdf files in Acrobat Distiller 5.0 for years and have had no problems until I got this new font. Adobe Type Manager shows that it is installed and it looks great on the screen.
I purchased the entire AJenson Pro font family from MyFonts.com, so I have bold, bold ital, etc. Their technical support couldn't suggest anything I hadn't already tried.
I'm planning on upgrading my PageMaker to InDesign soon, but I'll need a new computer to meet the minimum system requirements so I've been putting it off. I'm afraid to even download the free 30-day trial on my older computer. Any suggestions on how to get this OpenType font to work in a .pdf created using PM 7.0.1a and Acrobat Distiller 5.0, or do I have to upgrade to InDesign right away? I need to be able to create a .pdf so I can e-mail proofs to my client and eventually to send the finished book to a commercial printer. Thanks!

I have had this same problem myself with most Open Type fonts. It's very irritating, because it seems like most of the new fonts are being issued exclusively in Open Type.
I have developed a work-around, which you can attempt at your own risk.
Purchase the software FontCreator (I use FontCreator 5.6 Home Edition). It's not very expensive.
Open the problem font in FontCreator, and save it with a different name. In the process of saving it, the font will be converted to a TrueType font. Install the new version of the font. In my experience, you can then successfully use the font in Pagemaker, and convert it to a pdf.
This is not a perfect solution because there will be a *very* slight diminishment in the crispness of the lines of the font -- but this is only visible when the font is magnified to something like 6400% in Acrobat. It is not visible to the naked eye, or at least not to my naked eye.

  • The cambria font won't work in Microsoft word

I can't get the Cambria font to work in my Microsoft Word documents. It automatically defaults to Times New Roman.

Since your question has nothing to do with an Apple product I suggest you post your question on Microsoft's Mac forums, as it is their software you're having issues with, and that's where the Office experts hang out.

  • [SOLVED] Cannot get japanese fonts working in console

First time with Arch. Did a clean install yesturday with Plasma as my choice of GUI.
I have everything work, except for getting Japanese font support in consoles.
First, fonts worked inside Dolphin, but looked terrible. So I added the infinality repos and installed infinality-bundle, infinality-bundle-multilib, ibfonts-meta-base, and ibfonts-meta-extended.
This was probably overkill, but fonts look perfect in both my file manager and applications, but still no support in console, konsole, uxterm, or yakuake terminals.
Then I made sure both "en_US.UTF-8" and "ja_JP.UT8" inside of /etc/locale.gen were uncommended and then ran "locale-gen" as root to generate the locales. After a reboot the fonts still wont work, the appear as ? in console.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

After a lot of messing around, I finally got it to work.
Not only did "en_US.UTF-8" and "ja_JP.UT8" need to uncommented, but also "en_US.ISO-8859-1" and "ja_JP.EUC-JP".
    Running "sudo locale-gen" then returned:
    Generating locales...
      en_US.UTF-8... done
      en_US.ISO-8859-1... done
      ja_JP.EUC-JP... done
      ja_JP.UTF-8... done
    Generation complete.
As expected. Oddly enough, the output of "locale" has not changed at all, but now japanese fonts show up correctly in shell and terminals, even without a reboot!

  • Adding Web safe Japanese fonts to muse

    Dear Muse team
I'm having the same problem as Richard Grehan
    http://forums.adobe.com/message/5492379#5492379
I'm working in both Japanese and English but i use an english operating system, I'd like to add some websafe japanese fonts to muse via Typekit, Abhishek.G suggested the following:
    - Temporarily switch to Japanese
    - Create some sample text and cycle through the Japanese web-safe fonts you want to use so they appear in your "Recently Used Fonts" list
    - Revert to English
    - Use the Japanese web-safe fonts from the "Recently Used Fonts" list
However this method doesn't allow you to add new fonts and you can only use the web safe fonts already on your system. When you try to search on typekit you are confronted with the same list of non-Japanese fonts see above. Using the fonts already on my system gives me a choice of one font, not really ideal. I know many people out there who have to design bilingual sites so if you could suggest another method to access websafe Japanese fonts in muse I'd be most grateful. Ideally I'd like to keep my operating system in English.
    Thanks
    E Thoburn

    Hi,
Are you not seeing ヒラギノ角ゴ Pro W3, ヒラギノ明朝 Pro W3, Osaka-等幅 in the Web Safe fonts section in Japanese version of Muse?
If so, please post  a screenshot.
As for using Arial, please note that Arial does not include Japanese characters. The browser/OS will use a fallback font, which is why it appears to work. However, different fallback fonts may be used for different site visitors, so your won't have a consistent look-and-feel.

  • My safari won't work unless I click a link?

Recently I used AdwareMedic to clean off adware that had made its way on my computer.  Once it was cleaned, I restarted my computer to be safe.  Since the restart, every time I open my Safari a page comes up that states, "Safari Can't Open the Page."  It goes on to state that the server unexpectedly dropped the connection, and to wait a few minutes then try again.  However, time isn't helping my problem.  I've restarted it again, I've updated my software, and I can't find any other discussions about this. (Forgive me if I've just missed it.)  Then, I tried to click a link that was texted to me through the Messages app, and Safari worked (mostly).  Some websites still wouldn't work, but I could get on most everything else.  Does anyone know how to fix this problem?  I'd like to use Safari without clicking a link that was sent to me through a text.  Thank you very much.

Please read this whole message before doing anything.
This procedure is a test, not a solution. Don’t be disappointed when you find that nothing has changed after you complete it.
    Step 1
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is localized to your user account.
Enable guest logins* and log in as Guest. Don't use the Safari-only “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac.”
While logged in as Guest, you won’t have access to any of your documents or settings. Applications will behave as if you were running them for the first time. Don’t be alarmed by this behavior; it’s normal. If you need any passwords or other personal data in order to complete the test, memorize, print, or write them down before you begin.
Test while logged in as Guest. Same problem?
After testing, log out of the guest account and, in your own account, disable it if you wish. Any files you created in the guest account will be deleted automatically when you log out of it.
*Note: If you’ve activated “Find My Mac” or FileVault, then you can’t enable the Guest account. The “Guest User” login created by “Find My Mac” is not the same. Create a new account in which to test, and delete it, including its home folder, after testing.
    Step 2
The purpose of this step is to determine whether the problem is caused by third-party system modifications that load automatically at startup or login, by a peripheral device, by a font conflict, or by corruption of the file system or of certain system caches.
Please take this step regardless of the results of Step 1.
Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed for the test, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards, if applicable. Start up in safe mode and log in to the account with the problem. You must hold down the shift key twice: once when you turn on the computer, and again when you log in.
Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Ask for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start up and run than normal, with limited graphics performance, and some things won’t work at all, including sound output and Wi-Fi on certain models. The next normal startup may also be somewhat slow.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know your login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
Test while in safe mode. Same problem?
After testing, restart as usual (not in safe mode) and verify that you still have the problem. Post the results of Steps 1 and 2.

  • Acrobat 9.5.5 Pro - odd font won't go away

I began creating a new form and hadn't checked the default font.  After making about 10 fields I used Preview to enter some text.  Not liking the result, I had a look at the font being used.  Something called, "KozMinPr6N-Regular," which is Japanese.  Never heard of it - have never used it.  Not sure how it became a default.  I changed the font for those 10 fields, reset the default to Helvetica and created another 60 or so fields.
The form printed fine in Acrobat Pro, but when I opened it in Reader (11.0.06) and tried to print using the Print Dialog, I received the message that "The document could not be printed."  I clicked OK (the only option) and a new box opened that said "There were no pages selected to print."  This after I "Selected All" in the print dialog and saw the preview of the document as a thumbnail.
At one point I was instructed to go to the Adobe website to download a font since "the author hadn't included it."  Well, I was the author and apparently it was referring to this Japanese font.
Back to Acrobat, and opening Document Properties > Fonts I see that Japanese font is included, as well as Helvetica.  Yet I've checked ALL of the field properties and there's ONLY Helvetica in use.  Short of starting all over from scratch, how can I fix this?
Also, I looked up Embedding Fonts in the Help dialog, but that's of NO help since it doesn't tell me how to do so - only the pros and cons.
    I'm running OS X 10.9.2.
    Thoughts?  Thank you!

I see, I misread your reference to Reader 11 to mean you were using Acrobat 11, but it looks like it worked out anyway.
The base-14 fonts are special in PDF because they are guaranteed to be available even if they are not embedded. If you select a non-base-14 font for use with a form field, the entire font usually gets embedded, since each glyph it contains has to be available for use with the field. This can take up a lot of space if you do this a lot, and the space isn't reduced if you change back to a base-14 font later because the internal reference to it is not removed. This is caused by the bug I mentioned.
In your case, however, the entire font doesn't get embedded because fonts like it (e.g., large asian fonts with a lot of glyphs, Arial Unicode) would take up too much space if fully embedded. If it did, a 100KB PDF could bloat to 20MB with that one change. Instead, users are expected to have such fonts installed on their system, which is why you were prompted to install the font pack. This despite the fact that the font was not actually used by anything in your document, it was simply the orphaned reference to it that triggered this. This should get fixed in Acrobat eventually so this type of thing doesn't happen again.

  • Fonts won't display in CS3-- particularly Photoshop & Illustrator

    Hello Everyone,
Thank you for any help you may be able to provide for this question.  Recently my laptop with my installed softwares crashed.  Luckily I was able to recover most everything and restored it on my newer iMac.
One of the few software that didn't play nice was CS3, so I had to re-install it.  Now, many of the fonts won't show up.  I'm doing a logo for a client and I need some fonts but fonts from the following- New Peninim, Corsiva Hebrew, Ariel Hebrew and/or Raanana-- don't appear after you engage the Type tool.  What shows up in both Photoshop and especially Illustrator is a square box with nothing in it.
I've gone to MANY of the help columns on line and followed 4 or 5 different "solutions"-- nothing seems to work.  I even, against my suspicions, called the Adobe customer service and the best they could offer was to post a question here if my answer was not apparent.
So, does anyone have an opinion on the matter?  Bearing in mind that I've put fonts in the Adobe folder, reset characters and a few other things since yesterday.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks,
    Andre

If you have the fonts installed and activated and they are not functioning, you may need to clear your font caches.
Are you using any font management software?  Can you confirm that the fonts are active?  If you're not aware of any font management, open up Font Book (applications -> Font Book) and see if you see the fonts in there.  If they are in the list, are they active?  If they are not in the list, you need to add them there (I think just by dragging them from the finder) and activate them.  Not being a Font Book user I'm not sure, but you may need to restart Illustrator to see the newly activated fonts.
If you don't have the fonts active, your type will be displayed in the default font (Myriad, unless you changed it) which likely doesn't have the hebrew characters, thus all you see is the squares indicating missing characters.

  • [Solved] Startx won't work! Laptop issues.

Okay, here is what Ididin as much detail as possible.
Dual boot: Windws XP + Archlinux
    the partition is like this
    80 GB XP
    80 GB arch
         *10 GB root
         *70 GB /home
Video Card: nVidia Geforce Go 6100
Okay, so after I installed, I decided to and uncomment all available US repositories with HTTP on them, not FTP. Then I did a full system update, and got the latest nvidia drivers. So I run nvidia-xconfig,  got a little confused when it didn't work and I noticed /etc/X11/xorg.conf was missing. After a while I realized I forgot to download Xorg, once I ran the command it worked. I downloaded HAL, started it and it worked. Then I ran startx, and it wouldn't work. I went into the IRC channel, and tried showed all the errors I got, after a while I was told I shouldn't be using root under any circumstances and the first thing I should have done is create my user ID, which I did, then made myself a Sudoer. Obviously, the errors still appeared, no matter what I did with Xorg. -.-

    Yep carol.
    Nope I didn't install freetype.
Also, I noticed whenever I try to install nvidia I get an error that says these files already exist, and that there is a: Errors occured. No packages were upgraded. In a list of a bunch of files I can't even really list out at the moment.
Pacman -S nvidia gets me that error, when I tried reinstalling xorg, it worked fine. Even when I deleted the cache, and uninstalled files it had the same issue.
I was told to install the latest version available though (again). since I installed some version I got back in 2008 in December. But I've been too hesitant since I felt I might need one of those extra CDs later. So I figured out how to do it through USB, not sure if I should just yet though.
And sorry, didn't notice that long error the last time I thought it meant it was already installed.
But I did do a full system update at least though.

  • Fonts won't outline in Flattener

    Hi,
    I have an issue.
When I create PDFs in InDesign, sometimes (for font issues) I need to take the PDF into Acrobat Pro to outline the fonts.
When I have done all of the process, I can use the Flattener to outline the fonts and it works.
I have received a PDF from a client that won't go through our Platemaker RIP because of some font corruption.
They created it from Quark 7. I have tried the same Flattener settings that work for my PDFs, but the Fonts just won't outline.
It doesn't matter what I do in Acrobat Pro, the fonts just stay put.
Does anyone have any suggestions, apart from ask the client to outline the fonts their end?

only fonts that get flattened get outlined. if the text is not overlapping any other
part of an image it will not outline.
You can try adding an blank page as a transparent watermark (using the add watermark option in Acrobat) over the text, then flatten again.

  • Problem with Acrobat 8.12 keeps trying to install Japanese Font Pack

I have a client who received a pdf file and when she opened it she was told that it needed the Japanese Font Pack. I gave her admin rights but it still keeps doing it. My pc with the same setup works perfectly fine with the offending file. Now everytime she opens any PDF it tries to open the offending file first and load the font pack. I was able to go into the registry and remove the keys that mention the file and Acrobat works fine as long as we do not try and open that file again. We have installed the font pack separately. The offending file opens fine in Reader. Any idea why this would keep happening and if there is a solution to stop it from happening. Thank you.

Actually, since I started getting the security warning, I haven't tried it on another machine. You think this information might be only stored on my machine? It's worth trying... Thanks!
