Japanese keyboard on iPhone

Hey all. Just wondering if anybody is aware of a way to access the Japanese keyboard on iPhone. According to a load of sites out there it is actually preloaded onto iPhone, it's just a case of unlocking that option.
Any ideas? Oh yea, and I really don't want to go throught the so-called 'jailbreaking' technique; it looks complicated and a tad dangerous!
Cheers

You mentioned jailbreaking though; is that easy to do?
Well it appears easy enough if you read some of the websites that tell you how to do it, though i have no personal experience with it.
Will it invalidate my iPhone subscription with Apple, i.e. disallow the download of new updates etc. etc?
Yes it will. It will void your warranty, so if you need to get it repaired or replaced, you won't be able to. And yes, if you update the software, at the very least, it will revert back to factory defaults, and at the worst, may brick your phone, rendering it useless.
Sorry for asking seemingly innane questions but I'm new to all this!
No problem. We all have to start somewhere.
Cheers.
And to you also.

  • Slow Japanese keyboard after iOS6 on iPhone 4S?

    Hey all!  As a serious student of Japanese, I make use of the built-in Japanese keyboard A LOT, mostly with dictionary apps like Midori and so forth.  However, after updating to iOS 6 on my iPhone 4S, it's begun to lag a bit.  Prior to the update, the keyboard was as smooth as it could be, but there seems to be little bit of lag now.  For instance, with a word like がんばる I can input the か and then add dakuten easily enough, but it'll freeze for a solid second or two when I hit わ and slide it over to ん.  The English keyboard works like a charm, but the fact that I use the Japanese keyboard so much makes the annoyance stand out.  Is this something Apple could smooth out via an update, or at the very least is there anything I can to fix this?
    ありがとう in advance!  XD

    There's not really any way to "fix" things on an iPhone other than a Reset.  Best report the problem to Apple via

  • IOS 8 broke my Japanese keyboard. (iPhone 5s)

    Hello folks,
    I am a native English speaker living and working in Japan and I require my iPhone's Japanese keyboard for everyday life. Please help!
    The problem:
    I updated to iOS 8 (from 7.0.4, iPhone 5s 32 GB) without issue last night before going to sleep. This morning I realised that I could not use the Japanese keyboard.
         -Word prediction & autocorrect both work fine when I start with the English keyboard.
         -I had not installed any new keyboards before the problem began.
         -When I switch from English to Japanese keyboards, Japanese characters do not appear when typing, only roman letters.
         -This only occurs with the "romaji" keyboard. The kana keyboard works but I've never used it before so it's kind of a pain.
         -The prediction line disappears and autocorrect stops working.
              -Can only get them back by closing & restarting the app.
         -I've tested several different apps, iMessage, Line, two different Japanese dictionaries, Spotlight, Pages, etc., all with the same problem.
         -I have since downloaded two other keyboards, MyScript - Stack & SwiftKey, Stack works but SwiftKey doesn't have a Japanese language pack.
    Attempts to fix:
         -Restarted  -> Didn't work.
         -Deleted all keyboards, restarted & re-added. -> Didn't work.
         -Added 3rd party keyboards.  -> Didn't work.
         -Added Chinese keyboards. -> Chinese works, but I don't need it. I need Japanese.
         -Added & removed several other keyboards in different combinations.  -> Didn't work.
    After writing all this down I'm pretty sure the only solution may be to restore, but if anyone has any tricks I would be grateful! I haven't found anything on the web about this so maybe I'm a unique butterfly.
    Thanks for reading!

    Having exactly same problem and couldn't manage to make it work.
    This is really annoying since I need to write Japanese all the time.
    Attempts to fix:
         - Restarted
         - Reseted
         - Removed keyboards and re-added
         - Backed up an restored
         - Installed the update (8.0.2)

  • Japanese: Composing on iPhone is easy!

    I spent hours looking for information on the Apple support site for instructions on how to compose Japanese text on the iPhone, and if it is there, it is buried. But composing Japanese on the iPhone is simple.
    1. Go to KEYBOARD and enable Japanese (or any other language) by pushing ON, then in
    2. MAIL go to the Small Box with a Pencil in the lower right-hand corner.
    3. You will get an English (default) keyboard.
    4. Select the Globe and you will get the "enabled" keyboard or Japanese ("hiragana").
    5. Select the Globe again and you will get an English keyboard which will change to "hiragana"
    as you type, and then it will give you a selection of the "Kanji."
    6. Send your email.
    7. Select the Globe one last time and you will get an English (default) keyboard once more.
    This same process holds true for SMS text messages.
    Apple does not have this information in their manual, unless I just missed it in the table of contents and the index. I didn't see it on their support site, or in the discussions, so here it is. Good luck!

    In the iPhone User Guide, it's page 27 where the basic instructions are found.

  • Can't use Japanese keyboard in iOS 8

    I cannot use Japanese keyboard, both Romaji and Kana, after updating to iOS8.
    The predictive function that worked well in iOS7 just disappeared with no clues.
    Normally, when I type in Kana, it will convert what I type to Kana and when I press Enter, it will show a list of words that match with it. With pressing Enter again, the word I selected will be shown on the screen.
    This function can't work anymore in iOS8.
    When I type in Kana, it just shows English alphabet with no list of words to be chosen in Japanese after I pressed Enter.
    I tried to removed Japanese keyboard many times but it didn't work.
    Already Restore & Backup, this didn't work either.

    The issue can be solved by the advice in the discussion below

  • When I type ^6 on my Chinese Pinyin keyboard I get ⋯⋯(^.^)♪(´ε` )(^з^)-☆ How can I get this on my American and Japanese keyboards too??? (^з^)-☆

    Hi everyone,
    I am not learning Chinese now, so I really don't need the pinyin keyboard (Traditional), but I keep it around because I can easily get a list of emoji/emoticons just by typing '^6'.
    I use emoji often when I type in Japanese, but it is such a hassle having to switch to the Chinese keyboard...especially since I already have a few language keyboards that I *actually* need to use regularly. I took my Spanish keyboard off the list because I can do okay with an American keyboard, and would like to also remove the Chinese Pinyin keyboard, but I frequently use the ^_^ (^6) feature.
    On the iphone Japanese keyboard, emoticons are built in by clicking a '^_^' button, but I cannot find them for my life on my mac!
    Please help! I do not want to use the standard iphone emoji such as   ,  , and   . I would prefer to use the 'asian' emoji such as (^_^) and
    ☆〜(ゝ。∂)instead.
    Thank you!!
    PS: This is the only other thing I could find on the internet about this. I tried searching in English and Japanese.

    That is default behavior for OS X 10.7 and up, but it should only happen when you hold a key down for a while.  If it happens with a quick tap, the key may be damaged.

  • IPad 3 Japanese keyboard not remembering keystrokes.

    I just upgraded from iPad 1 to iPad 3. On my iPad 1 the Japanese keyboard automatically remembers my keystrokes so I don't have to type out the full word each time before the keyboard realizes what word I7m typing. iPad 3 won't remember my keystrokes no matter how many times I type out the same word. It's a problem since I use my iPad to teach and it's convenient to have words i previously typed pop up in the bar above the keyboard when I begin typing. Is this a function they took out? It works on iPad 2 too.

    I've heard of glitches, but destroying the ability to write is fairly significant, is it not?
    This issue killed my ability to communicate effectively, during a time that I really needed it. Be that as it may, I'd like to echo that the above fix actually worked, when I was finally in a position to try it.
    I had no backup for this particular device, but surprisingly it was not a problem.
    "Find My iPhone" had to be disabled before running a restore. I didn't know what this was or how it got enabled, but it sounded very much like something I did not want anyway. It required two password entries to disable.
    Afterwards I made the following choices in the iPhone section of iTunes:
    "Restore iPhone"
    "Backup"
    "Restore"
    Reboot device (as part of restore)
    "Cancel" - for install carrier settings
    "Restore from this backup <my iPhone> (Last Backed Up: Today, a few minutes ago)"
    Synch all the apps, music, etc.

  • Switching to Japanese keyboard.

    Hi, I am wanting to know if there is an easier way to switch between English and Japanese on the Xperia Z3 keyboard. I have selected the Xperia Japanese Keyboard and have the Xperia keyboard as my default one. I have also tried going through the "writing languages" section but Japanese is not available here.
    At the moment I am having to pull down the notifications bar and switch languages everytime I type which gets extremely time consuming and annoying, especially since I have just switched from an iPhone.
    I have also tried using the Wnn Keyboard Lab app but I don't like it compared to the Xperia Keyboard.
    Is there an easier way of doing this? I know that previously you just had the world icon next to the spacebar that allowed you to easily change between languages. Cheers!

    Hi and welcome to the community! Since you're new please be sure that you have checked out our Discussion guidelines.
    Since Japanese is not included in the international keyboard as a writing language, you need to change the input method. And this can only be done by pulling down the notification field and choose another input method.

  • Bug report: A keyboard layout is incorrect on the remote with Japanese keyboard

    This is a bug report for Microst Remote Desktop
    ===================================================
    ## Summary
    A keyboard layout is incorrect on the remote with Japanese keyboard
    ## Version Information, I tested
    * Client
        * Case 1
            * MacBook Pro with JIS106 Keyboard
            * Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5
            * Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.0.24308
        * Case 2
            * MacBook Pro with JIS106 Keyboard
            * Mac OS X Mavericks 10.9.1
            * Microsoft Remote Desktop 8.0.24308
    * Remote
        * Case 1
            * Windows 7 Professional Japanese
        * Case 2
            * Windows Server 2008R2 Datacenter Japanese
        * Case 3
            * Windows Server 2012R2 Datacenter Japanese
    ## Detail of bug
    When login from Mac OS X with Microsoft Remote Desktop, the keyboard layout is always incorrect on the remote.
    The client machine have a built-in keyboard of JIS 106 layout,
    and the primary language is set to Japanese.
    But on the remote, the keyboard layout is US 101.
    So a input of Shift+2 does not result " but @.
    I've seen the above behavior on the 3 remote enviornments described the above.
    This bug did not occcur with Microsoft Remote Desktop Connection Client for Mac 2.1.1, even if the system language is English and keyboard layout is Japanese.
    ## Captures
    I've took some of screen captures.
    I'm sorry for the capture includes Japanese words, so I added description in English.
    Capture 1:
    Mac OS X Keyboard Setting
    Capture 2:
    Windows Server 2012R2 Screen Keyboard
    Capture 3:
    Windows Server 2012R2 Screen Keyboard, with a additional registry key configured.

    This bug also affects the Canadian English settings.  If the client is set to Canadian English with a US keyboard the remote server is setup using a Canadian French keyboard.  Using the language selection in the toolbar you can temporarily correct
    the problem but the keyboard resets to french at the most inopportune times.  The was a problem in the earlier RDP client and was fixed so it's sad to see it reoccur in the new client.

    how can  I use emoji keyboard on iPhone 3GS In wts app nd version ov this is 5.1.1(9B206)????????

    Once the keyboard is connected, it should work with any app that uses the standard keyboard interface, so it will work with iWork.

  • Can I use my Japanese keyboard while using English language?

    Hi
    I'm a complete noob when it comes to Mac's as this is my first.
    I purchased a Mac with a Japanese keyboard as i'm half Japanese and use Japanese quite alot.
    I'm wondering if I can use the Japanese keyboard whilst in English language mode.
    I can get it to type Romaji but it won't seem to let me use the actual Japanese letters that are on the keys whilst i'm in English language.
    If anyone knows a way please tell me.
    Cheers

    set desirable system lang (US-en) first in (editable) list here, add all keyboards you need, remove anything you don't need:
    Everything you checkmark here:
    will appear in "flag" menu near system clock:
    also take a look at shortcuts for layout switching

  • How to switch from Japanese keyboard

    Is there any way to reprogram a MacBook with a Japanese keyboard to English chacters?

    In System Preferences>Keyboard check the box for Show Keyboard And Character Viewer In Menu Bar. Then then go the box that will appear on the Menu Bar between the sound and the battery. Select Show Keyboard Viewer. This will show you your keyboard. If you press the Shift key it will show you what letters will type when you type with the shift key. Same with the Option key.
    Or you could open Text Edit and type each row of the keys and see what comes up.
