..JAR application no longer runs now that I've upgraded to Mavericks

A while ago I hired a developer to build a small program using Java.  It would take data from an excel file, run a query on a website, take the results of that query, and put it back in the excel file.  It worked fantastic...until I upgraded to Mavericks.  Now, the program opens and freezes on step 1.  The program works great on any PC in our office, and works great on any MAC that doesn't have Mavericks on it.  But on the computers with Mavericks, it freezes and doesn't work.  The developer is out of ideas, and doesn't use MACs very much.  But since it works on any computer other than a MAC with Mavericks, it seems to me that the problem is on my end of things, not with his code.
Any ideas on what kinds of things I can try?  I've downloaded and installed the Java Developer's Kit, but don't know what else to do.  I'm not even sure how to convey what the problem is to this forum.  Any ideas on that?  Sorry that I can't give more info.  I don't know where to look in my computer for any sort of logs that would help tell you what the problem is.
Thanks in advance to anybody who can help!

When you upgraded to Mavericks it will have removed any existing Java runtime and hence your JAR files will no longer run. (Mavericks does not include Java as standard.)
You can reinstall Java by doing the following.
Install this first - http://support.apple.com/kb/dl1572
Then install this - http://www.java.com/en/download/mac_download.jsp?locale=en
If you have already installed just the second one you may have to uninstall it, install the first one and then reinstall the second one.

  • How do I activate my Adobe Photoshop and Illustrator applications now that I have upgraded to Mavericks?

Since I have upgraded to Mavericks MacOSX 10.9.1  -  I am unable to open either my Adobe Photoshop CS and Adobe Illustrator CS programmes. Is there a simple solution to this? My QuarkXpress 9.3 programme made the change over successfully!

If all you did was install Mavericks over an older OS, you shouldn't have to do anything.
If you erased the drive before installing Mavericks, then Adobe's servers don't know that you are installing the software on the same computer. Meaning, if you forgot to deactivate the software before erasing the drive, then as far as Adobe's servers know, you still have two computers with that serial number activated, and it won't allow a third.
If you still have a full backup of your previous OS, restore it. Then deactivate the Adobe software. To save from having to overwrite your Mavericks install (mind you, this is all assuming you did an erase and install), create a separate partition on any drive to restore the previous OS and its apps to. Do the deactivation and remove the temporary partition. You should then be able to go back to the Mavericks drive and activate the software.
If you did do an install of Mavericks over your previous OS and the Adobe software is still balking when it shouldn't, then you'll have to contact Adobe and straighten it out through them.

  • Why can't I scroll down in a specific email anymore now that I've upgraded to Mavericks?

I upgraded to Mavericks over the weekend. I thought things were working fine (it took 5 installation failures before it finally installed properly), but now, I'm finding that I cannot scroll in an email within Mail. Instead, even though I have the email open and my cursor in the email rather than my inbox list, the inbox is scrolling down. Is there a setting I can change? Or is this one of the new Mavericks "benefits?"

This a bug with Mavericks.  You can close out mail and restart and may work again for a while.  I have not tried the cache file deletion as noted in another discussion (see more like this in side bar).

  • HT204053 i want to change my icloud id on my iPhone, but it won't let me now that i have upgraded.  I no longer have the password and the problem is It is using an old id which the email isn't valid and the security question does not think my birthday is

I want to change my icloud id on my iPhone, but it won't let me now that i have upgraded.  I no longer have the password and the problem is It is using an old id which the email isn't valid and the security question does not think my birthday is valid.  I cannnot delete the account because "find my iphone" wants the password linked to this old account.  But when i go into the find my iphone app it is using my corect Apple ID.  How do i fix this?

If you still have access to your old email address, go to https//appleid.apple.com, click Manage my Apple ID and sign in with your iCloud ID.  Tap edit next to the primary email account, tap Edit, change it back to your old email account and verify it.  Then edit the name of the account to change it back to your old email address.  You can now use your current password to turn off Find My iPhone on your device. Then go to Settings>iCloud, tap Delete Account and choose Delete from My iDevice when prompted (your iCloud data will still be in iCloud).  Next, go back to https//appleid.apple.com and change your primary email address and iCloud ID name back to the way it was.  You can now go to Settings>iCloud and sign in with your correct iCloud ID and password.
If you don't have access to your old email address, you will have to contact Apple to have them reset the password so you can disable Find My iPhone and sign into your iCloud account.  You can either go to https://expresslane.apple.com, select "More Products and Services", then "Apple ID", then  on the next page select "Other Apple ID Topics", then "Lost or forgotten Apple ID password" and click "Continue"; or you can contact Apple Support (http://www.apple.com/support/icloud/contact/).

  • Links in some of the websites I use no longer work now that I downloaded the update

Some of the links in a site I use are no longer working now that I have done the software update.
Ie.. I use an online canteen programme to order lunch for my kids but now I can no longer use some of the websites links.  I've contacted the company and they think its an iOS update issue and have stated its out of their control- how can I rectify this?

    Hi meechgals,
Welcome to the Apple Support Community!
I know it must be frustrating when a website that you normally use is no longer working the way you would expect. The first thing I would suggest looking at your cookies in Settings > Safari. Please reference the attached article for further information. The article goes up to iOS 7 but the settings are in the same place in iOS 8.

My text notification light no longer works now since the Lollipop upgrade.  How do I get it back since i use my phone in silent mode most of the time?

We want you to love your software update pitbullmommy71! When did you update your phone? Have you tried going into phone settings and set up your notifications as you would like them? It can take a few days for your phone to normalize after the update, but this may be a bit much. Some apps may no longer be compatible with the new software so you can try running phone in Safe Mode or do a Hard Reset to see if this improves your phone. I've seen where some have completed a Hard Reset after the update and downloaded all same apps, and phone works flawlessly now. However, if you'd like to try Safe Mode first, (which is where all 3rd party apps are disabled), you can certainly try this for 24 hours to see if improves.

In v6 airport utility "Join a wireless network" is not available once the TC is setup.
You must reset to factory and try again using the selection options.. and it can fail or not come up.. This is an extremely poor way to setup a TC.. and you should NEVER EVER DO IT.. that is why apple removed it. Since you are joining wireless it makes no difference where the TC is located.. since it would become a dumb AP and turn off its ethernet ports.
Place it right next to your main modem router, plug in by ethernet, and select bridge mode and create a wireless network. Never use Join a wireless network..
However for completeness here is the method.
How do I setup my time capsule with wireless internet?
    Never ever do it.
If you need internet by wireless and backup to the TC.. then simply plug the TC directly into the Mac.
Run dual network.. Setup explained here.
Using Time Capsule hardwired to Mac for back-up only.

Any videos that I had in iPhoto 08 previously played ok when I was on Snow Leopard but now that I have upgraded to Lion I have just discovered that when I click on a video nothing happens at all. I don't want to upgrade to iLife 11. Does anyone know of a resolution for this problem?

When I check for updates I just get a message about iPhoto 11 being available as part of iLife 11.

  • Now that I have upgraded to Yosemite I have a problem when I scan documents.  Before, a window showed today's activity.  Now I have to search through all my documents and hope to find what I just scanned.

Now that I have upgraded to Yosemite I have a problem when I scan documents.  Formerly, a window showed today's activity.  Now, I have to search through all the documents in my history to find what I just scanned.  Sometimes I can't even find the doc.

Most scan apps have a setting whereas, your scan(s) can go directly to your desktop.  No need to "hunt" for scanned docs.

i can't get search now that i've upgraded software for my n95 does anyone know why and /or what i can do to rectify it?
    thanks eebbee

Call your service provider and tell them you updated the phone's software. They will send an service message which has your connection settings and you will prompted to save.
Or you can go to Tools > wizard > Start. It will configure your phone saying defining "operator settings" wait for it to finish
    and exit

Goodness.......why can't Apple do things right anymore.  Oh I forgot they sell iPhones instead of computers.

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

    Welcome to Apple Support Communities
All iWork apps allow you to save your documents on your computer. You will be able to choose the destination when you want to save a document.
You can also disable iCloud for some apps. To do that, go to System Preferences -> iCloud, press "Options" next to "iCloud Drive" and disable the apps you want to.
If you have lost your old documents, you should have a backup that you made before upgrading to OS X Yosemite, so you only have to restore it.
