Jar file caching on startup

Recently I've heard that NetWeaver, or to be precise the J2EE engine, is loading all jar files into an internal database at startup time. After that if the J2EE engine restarts, it checks for all saved jar files if the newest version is loaded.
It's as clear as daylight that this loading and checking is very time consuming and thus I want to know if this feature can be tweaked in anyway (cause my development NW takes so much time to startup -.-)
Anyone heard of this feature and/or can give any hints where to find a technical documentation?

Hi, you could try to disable the bootstrapping at startup.
Maybe that helps and will bosst up the starting process a little

  • How to determine the path of the jar file cache of javawebstart?

    Hello, I need to know how to determine where the java web start application
    file jar cache is stored on windows system hard drive.
    I would have launch of the inner processes
    I have need to know the path of file jar .
    example if my application is myAppliation.jar
    in code generic class of myAppliation.jar i have the command runtime
    String strCmd =
    System.getProperties().getProperty("java.home") + "\\bin\\java" +
         " -cp " +
         System.getProperties().getProperty("java.class.path") + ";"
         + " anotherClass.class ";
    Runtime.getRuntime().exec(strCmd);
    the anotherClass.class has need
    of the contained library in myAppliation.jar.

    Thanks i have tried this metod and function
    java.net.URL resource = classLoader.getResource("myResource");
    if (resource != null) {
    String s = resource.toString();
    if (s.startsWith("jar:")) {
    int index = s.indexOf("!");
    if (index > 4) {
    String fileurl = s.substring(4, index);
    if (fileurl.startsWith("file:")) {
    String path = fileurl.substring(5);
    // now path is the path to the jar file in the cache containing the resource
    System.out.println("file jar: "+path);

  • JAR file cache

    hi all.
    i have a problem with jar file on web form. i create one jar file thru jdeveloper and write some code on keypressed event. after deploying this jar file in d:\orant\forms60\java and adding this jar file in formsweb.cfg file developer forms works fine. but the problem is after using this jar file i made some changes in the jar and deploy again in the same manner. but my developer form doesnt take the effect of the new changes. then i create new form and use the same file i surprised new form take the effect but old one not so i can change the name of the old form. after changing the name of the form it takes the effect. so how i can solve this problem bcz it creates problem when i'm using it in my live projects. how i can clear the cache for this jar file
    thanks in advance
    Shakeel

    If you change the JAR file you can't just re-load in the browser, you have to exit the browser and start a new one, then the newer JAR will be picked up,.

  • JAR File Caching Issues

    After the security update here, http://sunsolve.sun.com/search/document.do?assetkey=1-26-103079-1 any users referencing our applets do not use the jar files stored in cache if the DNS has changed. We use an akamai hosted solution for jar distribution (though this would also occur in any DNS load balancing situation) thus the IP is rather dynamic though the content is identical. As the security issues states, any Plugin versions 1.5.0_13 and above or 1.6.0_03 and above treat a new DNS as compeltely new jar files.
    Has anyone worked through similar situations? This renders the caching almost useless and we have a rather thick applet (3 Mb total jar files) which is quite an impact for a customer that is often low bandwidth to download daily.
    Thanks!

    Recently I tried to used some robot tools to test our application for performance issue. During the robot testing, I acceidentally discover some difference for the jar downloading which cause the above mentioned problem.
    At first, this http request has no problem and the jar file is NOT downloaded. Http server shows a response code of "304", meaning download not required.
    http_request
    "GET lib/posLookup.jar HTTP/1.1\r\n"
    "Accept: */*\r\n"
    "Accept-Encoding: gzip, deflate\r\n"
    "If-Modified-Since: Thu, 05 Dec 2002 17:22:12 GMT\r\n"
    "User-Agent: Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 5.5; Windows NT 4.0; T31246"
    "1)\r\n"
    "Host: defaulthost\r\n"
    "Connection: Keep-Alive\r\n"
    "Cookie: sesessionid=0001UULRZPFLU5IBRNBVHWUUAFI\r\n"
    "\r\n";
    Then after running for a while, the browser jumps into another page and finds that the same jar file "posLookup.jar" is required. It issue another http request to server as:
    http_request
    "GET lib/posLookup.jar HTTP/1.1\r\n"
    "cookie: sesessionid=0001UULRZPFLU5IBRNBVHWUUAFI\r\n"
    "User-Agent: Java1.3.1_02\r\n"
    "Host: defaulthost\r\n"
    "Accept: text/html, image/gif, image/jpeg, *; q=.2, */*; q=.2\r\n"
    "Connection: keep-alive\r\n"
    "\r\n";
    But this time the user agent becomes Java1.3.1_02 and the accept type becomes text/html instead of original zip format. After this, I check the IE temporary file and found that the posLookup.jar is having a type of "HTML Document" instead of "Executable jar file".
    Does anyone know whether this is a bug of the Internet Explorer or it is bug of the Java Plugin?
    Appreciate any opinions or comments.
    Thanks

  • Jar file caching problem

    I'm running applets under IE in our application. The application contains multiple pages, each page with one applet. Each applet contains some shared jar file and one specific jar file for that applet.
    Most of the time, the caching mechanism work fines. The browser is able to check with the HTTP server to see if any new jar files and download automatically. If no updates, the cached jars (in browser) are used.
    However, at some other times, when I jump across several pages, performing different processing, suddenly the browser will reload all the jar files from the server. Even some shared jars are reloaded in every page within the same browser session.
    If above problem occurs, I close the browser, open a new one and jumping to the pages again, the browser will be able to use the cached version again.
    The runtime environment as follows:
    JRE 1.3.1_02
    IBM HTTP server 1.3.12.6
    IBM WebSphere Appl Server 3.5.3
    IE 5.50 (The "Check for newer versions of stored pages" is set to "Every visit to the page")
    Pages created by JSP, syntax as follows:
    <OBJECT classid="<%=JSPUtil.getClassid()%>" codebase="<%=JSPUtil.getPluginCodeBase()%>" WIDTH=100% HEIGHT=175% NAME=posApplet>
    <PARAM NAME=ARCHIVE VALUE="<%=JSPUtil.getSharedArchives()%>, <%=JSPUtil.getArchiveLocation()+"/posPending.jar"%>">

    <PARAM NAME=NAME VALUE="PendingRequirement" >
    <PARAM NAME=codebase VALUE="<%=JSPUtil.getCodeBase()%>">

    Do anyone knows anything about the problem?

  • Jar File caching in temp directory problem

    Hello,
    I have a problem where the java plugin is caching jar_cache9999.jar (where 9999 is any number 0-9) files in the temp directory. I have tried following the directions for disk caching in the documentation, but these files are always created, never destroyed.
    I was wondering:
    1. Is there a simple setting that I could set that should resolve this problem? (un-setting "cache jars in memory" wouldn't seem to solve the problem as I would think that would only force the browser to use the same jar if it had already been loaded)
    2. Has this problem been corrected in later releases of the java plugin? I am using the jre1.2.2. When I looked at the problem here in the forums, the bug that was listed was listed as fixed.
    Thanks,
    Dan Hughes

    Hi,
    Java Plug-in has supported disk caching in previous versions by using the same cache the browser uses for all other web documents. This works for casual applet usage, but larger applets can often get flushed from the cache to make room for other documents since the browser has no knowledge that an applet file might be needed in the future. The result is that this caching strategy fails where is needed most in large business applets.
    From 1.3. the new feature is activated by including the new "cache_option" , "cache_archive" and "cache_version" values in the EMBED/OBJECT tag that specifies the use of Java Plug-in as below:
    <OBJECT ....>
         <PARAM NAME="archive" VALUE="...">
         <PARAM NAME="cache_option" VALUE="...">
         <PARAM NAME="cache_archive" VALUE="...">
         <PARAM NAME="cache_version" VALUE="...">

    or
    <EMBED ....
         archive="..."
         cache_option="..."
         cache_archive="..."
         cache_version="...">

  • Jar file is not cached

    Hi,
    I have a problem in caching the jar file. When the browser was closed and then open again, it tries to load the jar file from the web server again. It seems the jar file is never cached in the Java-Plug in. Here is the code for the page:

    <PARAM name="code" value="Proteus.class">Web Motion Control Applet</OBJECT>
    Any idea?
    Thanks for the help!

    Have the same nasty issue here - beginning with 1.4.2 we see that the java plug-in add
    Cache-Control: no-cache
    Pragma: no-cache
    to the HTTP request when downloading the JAR file (also happen when JAR is already in local plug-in cache). Therefore the web server always sends a HTTP 200 with full content instead of a lightweight HTTP 304 Not Modified.

    Is there a way to disable the explicit "no-cache" request?

  • JRE won't cache some jar files.

    I have seen this behavior several times and cannot figure it out. For some reason, the JRE will not always cache jar files. I have tried to narrow down a pattern, but cannot. The closest pattern I can see is that on occasions when a jar is not cached, the file was not signed. I have not seen an instance when a signed jar would not cache. Having said that, occassionally, unsigned jars do appear to be cached.
    This behavior has been seen with all versions from 1.4 - 1.6. In all cases, the max cache size is far great than would ever be needed and in most cases, jar cache is cleared prior to testing.
    Any hints, or is this expected behavior? If expected, is it documented anywhere?

    Hi Matthew,
    I get the same error when using the Camino browser and StuffIt v9.0.1. So, I'd guess it's a problem with the file rather than anything on our machines.

  • Turning off jar cache causes classnotfound with signed jar files

    Hi,
    I have a problem with applet signed jars when the java cache is turned off.
    With the cache turned off, I get a class not found for the first class it attempts to use from the signed jar file from an applet.
    If I turn the jar caching on, all works perfectly with no other changes.
    Anyone have any ideas? This is java 6u16.
    Thanks

  • Cached jar files

    Hi.
    I am in the middle of java bean development. As I have to test the java bean I often change the java code, comple it, jar compress it, sign the jar file and put it on to the application server $OH/forms/java directory. The problem I am facing is the JRE on the client side does not refresh / download the newly created jar file. To force the JRE to download it I have to manually delete it from JRE resources.
    I was convinced every time the jar file is changed (date, length ...) the client JRE deletes old resource and downloads the new one. Now I am confused what I could be doing wrong.
    Best regards, Gregor

    Assuming you are using a new version of the JRE (1.6.0_22), so as to be sure you are not dealing with a bug, the JRE will reload the jar if it has changed. However, if the previous session has not been terminated this may not occur. Simply exiting the browser may not accomplish this thanks to changes in IE by Microsoft, which can cause iexplore.exe sessions to continue even though the browser has closed. The best way to know if the session has truly terminated is to review the System tray (next to the clock - lower right corner). If the Java icon is still displayed, the session was not terminated.
    As for your immediate situation, I would recommend disabling caching while you are testing. This will ensure that the current file is always pulled from the server. Set the cache size to 0 in the Java Control Panel (Temporary Internet Files...) and uncheck the box labeled "Keep temporary files on my computer".

  • Why is the application caching the old jar file

    Hi all
    I have an application that is caching the old jar file.
    even when i reboot.
    when the application starts up it appears to pick up the old jar file.
    any idea on how i can let it pick up the new jar file ?
    stev

    I'm pretty sure that it is just this one .jar file.
    You see I changed a Servlet class in the jar file and messed up the application.
    Now I'm putting back the old jar file and guess what
    it's somehow hanging on to this old servlet class. and showing the same error. What is unique is that I did the same thing on another PC a server edition and it let go of the old Servlet with no problem
    but on my PC a professional edition it is hanging onto that old Servlet even though I deleted every instance of it on the PC , shut down the PC and restart the app. I even deleted the old jar file from the recycle bin. the jar file has a very distinct name so i can easily search for it and
    This app uses tomcat as well - not that that's related.
    I have had this problem happen to me before at home with applet. I would change something and it would just hang on to it forever.
    Anybody has any idea how to go into the registry or some other place and get rid of this servlet class or jar file ?

  • Pre-Deploy JAR files to JRE Cache in Windows

    We are looking to build an SMS installer to pre-deploy all controls for our application to our end-users desktops. The application is Siebel.
    Several of the controls are in JAR files and we want to pre-deploy these into the Java Cache via the SMS installer, as we block all control downloads from websites (both internal and external) including JAR as a matter of security policy.

  • HELP! File cache Maxed out at startup

    Hello everyone, I have used this forum to answer my everyday questions but I have not found the answer to this question. As of late my Mac's file cache gets maxed out instantly. I have 32GB of RAM and near 28GB gets used up in the file cache. I try using memory cleaner and the file cache will not delete. I have to use the terminal command "sudo purge" to delta the file cache. Just yesterday, I started up my mac and 27GB was already in use in the file cache.
    I recently installed Lightroom 5.7.1 and Camera Raw 8.7. And the problems have started since I installed one of these apps.

    Un-install Memory Cleaner and let the OS handle memory. It does a better job. Un-install using the developers instructions.
    Try a restart.
    Do a backup, using either Time Machine or a cloning program, to ensure files/data can be recovered. Two backups are better than one.
    Try setting up another admin user account to see if the same problem continues. If Back-to-My Mac is selected in System Preferences, the Guest account will not work. The intent is to see if it is specific to one account or a system wide problem. This account can be deleted later.
    Isolating an issue by using another user account
    Try booting into the Safe Mode using your normal account.  Disconnect all peripherals except those needed for the test. Shut down the computer and then power it back up after waiting 10 seconds. Immediately after hearing the startup chime, hold down the shift key and continue to hold it until the gray Apple icon and a progress bar appear and again when you log in. The boot up is significantly slower than normal. This will reset some caches, forces a directory check, and disables all startup and login items, among other things. When you reboot normally, the initial reboot may be slower than normal. If the system operates normally, there may be 3rd party applications which are causing a problem. Try deleting/disabling the third party applications after a restart by using the application un-installer. For each disable/delete, you will need to restart if you don’t do them all at once.
