.jar file does'nt open

Hello all this is a simple question, but it did'nt quite fit in another category. I have a class file, and I want it too be executable for people without the java development kits, but do have pluggins etc.
Here's what I did...
jar cvf batchrun.jar *.class
but when even I double click on this I cant execute it, depite windows calling it a jar executable file,
anyone know what I'm doing wrong here?

Ah, I tried the one you sent, but it failed...
I made a manifest file called mainClass.txt with these contents (including pressing enter after)
Main-Class: tictactoe
then I used the command prompt to do this..
jar cvfm classes.jar mainClass.txt *
classes.jar was the jar I wanted (which was created) and mainClass.txt was the manifest file
Sadly, the thing will still not run, and it is driving me insane!!!!
anyone have any comments......?

  • Executable Jar file - Does not open

    Hi,
    I have an executable jar file. The icon of that executable jar is that of an unknown file instead of the normal java icon. So when I try to run that executable jar it shows 'open with'. What is the reason for this? What should be done in order that I can run this executable jar?

    Associate .jar files with java -jar in your OS. I didnt get you.
    Normally it should open with these softwares installed, rt?

  • JAR file does not get uploaded to client for my SERVLET generated APPLET

    Some help please...
    I have a servlet that generates the HTML code that contains an APPLET. This APPLET needs a JAR file that is listed under its ARCHIVE property. The SERVLET is in a JAR file that is in the same directory as the other needed JAR file. If I create a static HTML with the output of the SERVLET it works fine. But if go through Weblogic the needed JAR file does not get uploaded to the client so I get a java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError:and my APPLET does not load.
    Q1: I am not sure what to put under the CODEBASE tag. I tried "." and I also tried "http://mymachine" but both did not work. I also tried without the CODEBASE tag. No luck. The SERVLET is bound to http://mymachine/servlet.
    Q2: Does anyone have any suggestions on how to do this? Is there a way to force the browser to upload a certain JAR file?
    Thanks...

    It works!!
    This is what I did:
    The jar file in question was the weblogic.jar. I tried putting it under the lib directory of my war file but I had problems because the weblogic.jar contains other war files inside so when I tried to deploy my war file it also tried to deploy the inner war files which for some reason did not work. So I tried removing the war files from the weblogic.jar and this time I had no problems deploying my war file but I still could not find the classes I needed. So I tried moving the weblogic.jar to the root dir of my war file and it worked!! Now the trick here was: I did not set the CODEBASE AND I had the ARCHIVE paramenter set in TWO places like below:
    <APPLET CODE = "marketmap.client.MarketMapApplet"
    ARCHIVE = "weblogic.jar"
    WIDTH = "657"
    HEIGHT = "382"
    ALIGN = "BOTTOM"
    ALT = "APPLET tag not recognized">
    </XMP>
    <PARAM NAME = CODE VALUE = "MyApplet" >
    <PARAM NAME = "type" VALUE="application/x-java-applet;version=1.2.2">
    <PARAM NAME = "scriptable" VALUE="false">
    <PARAM NAME = ARCHIVE VALUE="weblogic.jar">
    </APPLET>
    Actually if you do not place a parameter named ARCHIVE (at the end) it wil NOT work. I tried with multiple jar files listed and it works great too.
    Anyway I figure I'd share. Thanks for the help too.
    Lastly for people who choose not to upload the jar files to clients, you should look at the bea documentation on applets. It lists a classpath servlet that allows you to provide classes to the clients without having to force them to download the jar file.

    Did you ever install Acrobat? It is not installed automatically with CS, but requires an extra installation step.

  • CS5: double-click on file does not open the file

    If Photoshop is closed, double-click on a file will always successfully launch Photoshop and open the picture.
    If Photoshop is running, double-clicking on a file will activate Photoshop, but very often the file does not open. It works from time to time though, and that seems to be on a random basis.
    Opening a file through the Open command will always work.
    I am working with 10.6.3 on a loaded Mac Pro.
    Did anybody experience this difficulty? Any help would be appreciated, before I take more drastic measures like reinstalling the software of worse than that. I've already done the usual maintenance operations.

    Caustic waltz, while brief, may have hit the nail on the head. If you do not want to continue this thread, you can search the forum for existing posts about Snow Leopard and file-program association confusion. Snow Leopard changed some things and that might be your issue.
    More simply, do your image files have extensions? (.PSD, .JPG, etc...)
    Hello Marian:
    While browsing through my Adobe account, I saw that you took the time to leave a comment two days ago. While it did not solve my problem, I will mark your comment as "helpful" for several reasons. It could have been a cause. And I will add politeness, courtesy and language precision. I'm an old guy and I quite value those elements.
    True, Snow Leopard changed changed the way files are associated to applications. Thank God! Here in our small office, we do a lot of cross-platform transfers and finally it works seamlessly. A good description of the new file identification system can be found here.
    Now, here are the reasons why Snow Leopard cannot be put at fault in my case:
    • If Photoshop CS5 is not launched, double-clicking on any psd, tiff or jpeg file will launch it and open properly.
    • If Photoshop CS5 is already running, double-clicking on any psd, tiff, or jpeg file will activate Photoshop CS5 but will not open.
    This points at either a bug or damaged Photoshop CS5, or maybe a damaged OS. Don't forget that out of maybe a hundred apps, this is the first time I meet with that problem. Of course, the easier course, but by no means guaranteed to work, is to presume that Photoshop CS5 is damaged or that its installation did not work properly. So I did the following things:
    • I deactivated Photoshop CS5 and uninstalled it.
    • I ditched all remaining files related to CS5, CS4, CS3, CS2, CS... yes I know, but then you know as well as I do0 that getting really rid of Photoshop is a daunting task. It took me almost two hours, but I am reasonably sure that the cleaning job was complete.
    • I reinstalled Photoshop CS5.
    Now everything works just fine at least for the time being. Time will tell, of course, but I think that the problem is solved.

  • XSLT Mapper file does not open in design view

    XSLT mapper file in the composites exported from weblogic EM as a jar and imported in JDeveloper 11.1.14 does not open in design view. There is no option of design view itself in the tab structure. It is viewable only in source view.
    Please suggest, how do I view the desgn view of the xslt mapper?
    Thanks,
    Promiit

    When you export composites from Weblogic EM in jar format, the resulting files are differently formatted from what was used for deployment.
    So, basically, the XSLT file, you are trying to open in Jdeveloper has lost the "mapSources" and "mapTargets" sections, which are generally present in the header section of the jdeveloper-generated XSLT file. Try to manually hand-crack those sections and you should be good to go.
    Hope it helps !

  • Java Malfunction in Mac OSX 10.5 - .jar files won't open

    All of a sudden none of my .jar files will open (most importantly the dimsum.jar which I use almost everyday). I have run a clean up of my cache and tried everything I can think of to bring back the .jar operations and nothing works as it did before. Upon attempting to open the file my Console messages consist of a huge list of font names something like (0x0-0x233233.com.apple.JarLauncher1561 Type: TONES Name: ZoobeSSK-BoldItalic) and I get a loading window that freezes never leads to the main program.
    I had this problem before and I simply rearranged my Java preferences so the 32-bit J2SE 5.0 was at the top of the list and it solved the issue but this time it didn't work. Right now my Java Applications list order is like this
    J2SE 5.0 32-bit
    Java SE 6 64-bit
    J2SE 1.4.2 32-bit
    J2SE 5.0 64-bit
    Being that I am not an official "developer" and that I only basically know my way around OSX, I thought maybe I could skirt the problem by changing my .jar file into an .app and skip the Java console all together. So I DL'd jarbundler which it turns out is also a .jar file and it won't open either. I simply get a message saying "The Java JAR file "jarbundler 2.1.0.jar" could not be launched."
    Here is the Console message when I attempt to open Jarbundler.jar if this helps:

    Can anyone PLEASE suggest a solution? Or a reason as to why this might have happened when it was working fine a month ago and how to prevent this from happening again?
    Thanks in Advance

    Recently nothing has really changed... I tried reinstalling my stock fonts and that didn't help. The programs that aren't working are Dimsum (http://www.mandarintools.com/dimsum.html) and Jar Bundler that comes with the Apple's free Xcode Developer Tools. I thought if I could get Jar Bundler to work I could turn Dimsum into an app and dodge the problem altogether, but that didn't work either... My Java is updated (according to my computers Software Update window) and everything else seems to be working fine... I hope it doesn't turn into a system reinstall...

  • Double clicking Illustrator (.ai) file does not open a file with opened app.

    Hello,
    I have an Illustrator CS5 (15.0.2) running on Windows 7 Pro. Here are the symptoms: when double clicking the Illustrator file once the application is already open, the file will not open. You will see an hourglass for a few seconds, but no file contents are displayed. However, if I were to close Illustrator application and then double click on the file, Illustrator will open the file correctly. Additionally, if I go to File -- Open and manually select the file, it also opens the file correctly. Only double clicking the file once the Illustrator application is already open does not work.
    Has anyone seen this issue and knows how-to fix it?

    Right click on a .ai file and choose properties, check to see what application is set to open .ai files. Try running in 32 bit mode.

  • Double-clicking on rpt file does not open report

    When I double-click on a *.rpt file, Crystal Reports opens but does not bring up the report file.  I have to then go to File/Open in order to open the file.  I don't receive an error. Does anyone know how to get Crystal Reports to open the file at the same time as executing the crw32.exe?
    I checked in Windows Explorer under Tools/Folder Options/File Types, selected RPT which is associated to Crystal Reports, went to the Advanced options, and all I have is Open for an Action.  I have the following settings for Open:
    Application Used to Perform Action:  "C:\Program Files\Crystal Decisions\Crystal Reports 10\crw32.exe" "%1" /dde /e /n
    DDE Message:  &#91;FileOpen("%1")&#93;
    Application: crw32

    I had to go into the Advanced settings and delete the "Open" action, then click "OK" to exit.  Then go back in and re-add the Open action, browse to your crw32.exe file as the application to open.  Seems to correct the problem; not sure of the cause.

    To me it looks like CLASSPATH is not set in your environment. When type echo %CLASSPATH% you should see something like /opt/sun/mq/share/lib/jms.jar:/opt/sun/mq/share/lib/jaxm-api.jar:/opt/sun/mq/share/lib/imqxm.jar:/opt/sun/mq/share/lib/imqservlet.jar:/opt/sun/mq/share/lib/imq.jar:/opt/sun/mq/share/lib/fscontext.jar
    (sorry but I don't have windows machine) and not %CLASSPATH%. Adding your jar files to PATH variable won't help. When you start your cmd type "set" you should see if CLASSPATH is set when your environment is printed. If it's not set try setting it byt typing set CLASSPATH=your_path_to\jms.jar;your_path_to\imq.jar;. .Then run your application.

  • Double clicking .jar file does nothing!

    Hello i am wondering, how to run a .jar file by double clicking it?
    After creating the jar file and by typing javaw.exe -jar ledger.jar in command prompt in windows 7 works fine for my swing application.
    I created a .bat file which has javaw.exe -jar ledger.jar also works fine.
    But when i double clicking the ledger.jar is not working, not giving any error, not even doing anything.
    I tried associating .jar file with java or javaw then also nothing happens.
    My questions are:
    1) What i have to do to execute the .jar file by double clicking it?
    2) Why java is not so user friendly to the end users especially in Desktop Applications?
    Thanks in advance.

    Your other question, please blame Microsoft for not making file associations easier to manage.Too easy. You can blame MS all you want; it is the task of the Java runtime installer to properly setup the file associations - OR the administrator which bypasses the runtime installation with his own scripts. i have installed the runtime many times including on Windows 7 and it always does it properly. I have no clue how people end up with half-finished installations.

  • .indd file does not open using InDesign 2014

    Hello All,
    I am getting the following message when attempting to open an   .indd file :-
    " Cannot open the file "abc.indd". Adobe InDesign may not support the file format,
    a plug-in that supports the file format may be missing, or the file may be open in another application. "
    I am using InDesign 2014 trial version. I have also used InDesign CC  (ver 9.22) to open the file but got the same message.
    How can I resolve this issue ?
    Thanks

    Usually this message is completely accurate -- either there's a lock file in the folder left over from a previous session that was not properly deleted (.idlk), or the file isn't actually a .indd (does it have an extension?), .indt, .inx or .idml file. We see this a lot when people rename PDF files thinking all they have to do is change the extension.
    If you open the file in a plain text editor, the first few lines should tell you if it's an InDesign file...
