Java 1.4.2: Iterator cannot be resolved...  Why??????

Hello fellow java developers!
I'm using java 1.4.2 - a requirement for this project.
The issue that I'm running into is when I declare an Iterator for use in the program.
The code is simple, but fails miserably.
Iterator itRows = hsSheet.rowIterator(); // this is a function from apache POI that is supposed to return an iterator
The issue is clear enough. "Iterator cannot be resolved to a type". But seems strange. If I try to declare the iterator type like this:
Iterator<HSSFRow> itRows = hsSheet.rowIterator(); // this tells me that "paramaterized types are only available if the source is 5.0 or above - 1.4.2 is required.
Any ideas???

An SSCCE may be hard to produce if the problem is due to the Apache library or his use of the library. :(
Is there some ambiguity as to what iterator you are using due to another library containing an Iterator class being added in your imports? Have you tried specifying the full class name?
java.util.Iterator itRows = hsSheet.rowIterator();Also, when posting code here, please use code tags so that your code will retain its formatting and thus will be readable -- after all, your goal is to get as many people to read your post and understand your code as possible, right?
To do this, highlight your pasted code (please be sure that it is already formatted when you paste it into the forum; the code tags don't magically format unformatted code) and then press the code button, and your code will have tags.
Another way to do this is to manually place the tags into your code by placing the tag [cod&#101;] above your pasted code and the tag [cod&#101;] below your pasted code like so:
[cod&#101;]
  // your code goes here
  // notice how the top and bottom tags are different
[/cod&#101;]Luck!

  • JspWriter cannot be resolved to a type

    The following is CheckAddress.jsp page which checks if the form has the name and phone fields filled in or not. If not then it must print the errors. But the problem I am having is that the Eclipse is showing me the error "JspWriter cannot be resolved to a type".

  • In ColdFusion 10 Java integration, app-context.xml cannot be found in the classpath

    I have jars and dependencies from a vendor Java library that I wanted to use in my new CF10 environment, however the Hibernate/Spring dependencies of the library conflict with those within CF10 itself.  To work around that, I had hoped to use javasettings in an Application.cfc to prioritize the library with the classloader, but the Spring classpath resolver seems to be unable to find a META-INF/spring/app-context.xml in the classpath even though it is within the jar.

  • Include JSP in JSP - Error:  cannot be resolved to a type

    Hello,
    Several of my jsp pages include other jsp pages. The project has many errors: "x cannot be resolved to a type". Is there a way to resolve these errors? Below is a small example of the issue:
    JSP #1:
    <%@ page import="com.testing.Introduction" %>
    <html>
    <head><meta http-equiv="Content-Type" content="text/html; charset=ISO-8859-1">
    <title>Hello</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <%
         Introduction intro = new Introduction();
         String speak = intro.sayHello();
    %>
    <p><%=speak %></p>
    <%@ include file="Name.jsp" %>
    </body>
    </html>  JSP #2:
    <html>
    <head>
    <title>Name</title>
    </head>
    <body>
    <%
         String speak2 = intro.sayName();
    %>
    <p>
    <%=speak2 %>
    </p>
    </body>
    </html>Class:
    package com.testing;
    public class Introduction
         public static void main(String[] args) {
         public Introduction() {
              super();
         public String sayHello() {
              return "Hello";
         public String sayName()     {
              return "My name is Sam";
    }The error shows up in Name.jsp; the issue is with "intro". Any ideas how to resolve this issue?
    Thank you in advance for your help!

    The jsp page Name.jsp appears to be missing the import statement that appears in the first page.
    <%@ page import="com.testing.Introduction" %>The included file is included character for character into the main page which is then treated as a single jsp page for the response. The include directive is invoked at the time of page translation. Given this, I don't see the purpose of using the <html> <head> and <title> tags in the second and included page. I don't think that this suggests the proper purpose of the include directive.
    Note too that if the included file changes, all of the jsp files that call this file need to be updated as well. Servers can handle the alteration of the main jsp, but may not serve the altered content if the included file changes.

    Well, putting all that Java code into a JSP was a bad idea in the first place, just on general design principles. But you've done it in such a way that the result of compiling the JSP is malformed Java code. Frankly I would just throw it away and put the Java code into a servlet or some other Java class, where it belongs.
    But if you're really working in a place where nobody has learned anything since 2003, and you're forced to support that old junk, then I would point out that the error occurs before the place which generates this line:
    import java.util.*;You only need to look at two of the thousand lines of code you posted.

    Seems we're close to solve the problem. May be this screen shot will be helpful to determine the problem?

    And the "D:\Documents\01 WORK\03 Programming\xx\dtc\0\DCs\xx.com\DC_WS_StyleInfo\_comp\gen_wdp\packages\" has been add to the project as the Java Build Path automatically when the project was created,
    But the error is still there.
    If I build the project, no error would show in task and err log page. Also the CBS can build this project successfully. I'm totally mazed about it.
    Anyone can help me?
    Thanks,
    YiNing

    Thanks, all. After close and reopen my project, the "cannot be resolved" problem is gone, but there's a new one.
    One of my web dynpro component has been expose as public of its DC, and another component from an other DC uses it as a used component, I keep being infomed of following error:
    1. The project was not built since its classpath is incomplete. Cannot find the class file for com.xx.sc_os_sale.dc_wsv_customer.model.Response_SC_OS_SALE_CustomerInfoViDocument_getCustomerList. Fix the classpath then try rebuilding this project.
    2. This compilation unit indirectly references the missing type com.xx.sc_os_sale.dc_wsv_customer.model.Response_SC_OS_SALE_CustomerInfoViDocument_getCustomerList (typically some required class file is referencing a type outside the classpath)
    I've tried to delete local project and reimport from DTR, but it doesn't help at all.
    Hope you can help me.

  • Error: cannot be resolved to type

    Hi Guys,
    I downloaded an application to launch an RTP client/server but I cannot compile it, yhe error message is below:
    vmplanet@vmplanet-desktop:~/JavaRTP/playerv1$ make
    javac Client.java

    2. ERROR in Client.java (at line 306)

         ^^^^^^^^^
    RTPpacket cannot be resolved to a type
    2 problems (2 errors)make: *** [Client.class] Error 255
    Can anyone help me with this error.
    Thanks alot..

    Thanks for the response jverd, I got it from "http://www.mobilelife.eu/OSU/classes/multimedia-networking-streaming.php" and the instructions just say to type make and it will compile all, I then tried to compile all of the files separately but that did not work either. On the website they say that it will work under RedHat and Solaris but I am using Ubuntu, this shouldn't make a difference with Java should it?
    Also in the tar file I downloaded there is an RTPpacket.java file, I tried to compile it first but that did not help..
    Thanks

  • Can't use classes in own package ... cannot be resolved into a type

    I am fairly new to java and I am having the following problem.
    i have a folder structure that goes as follows:
    cs/uwm/client/io
    and in this directory I have 3 files: ConsoleReader.java ConsoleWriter.java and ConsoleManager.java
    and at the top of all three I have the following:
    package cs.uwm.client.io;
    ConsoleReader and ConsoleWriter are compiling fine
    However in ConsoleManager I am using these classes ConsoleReader/Writer and It compile fine for me on a windows JDK in cywin, but when I try this on a Fedore6 system with an Eclipe Java Compiler v_686_R32x, 3.2.2 release I have the following error:
    ConsoleWriter cannot be resolved into a type
    when I try the following line: ConsoleReader reader = new ConsoleReader( System.in );
    I tried importing cs.uwm.client.io but that didnt' work. I couldn't find anything on the forums here if you are trying to use a class defined in your package inside your package the way I am.
    Any help would be great!

    So it compiles from a commandline invocation of Java, but not from within Eclipse?
    Sounds like you need to ask the question at an Eclipse site, since the problem is not a Java problem - and this forum is for Java language questions, not IDE support questions.
    Probably caused by the fact that Eclipse doesn't use Sun's Java compiler.

  • Some class that cannot be resolved to a type

    Hello, I?m trying to use the[b] itext API for PDF creating from Java.
    In order to do this you must include the package .jar in your classpath and import com.logawie.text.* in your java file. All this steps are obviusly, and work correctly, in JAVA, but i?m trying to develope a web application, using JSP.
    Usually when I try to import a package from a JAR file that are allocated in the C:\j2sdk1.4.2_12\lib directory it doesn?t work. I solved this problem with some classes including it directly to the src.zip file. But with the itext package it doesn?t work, I don?t know if my solution is too bad, but with another classes it works, but with the itext package it says that all classes references "cannot be resolved to a type".
    Anyone can help me? Thanks in advance.
