Java 1.5 in Snow Leopard

So Java 1.5 is deleted from Snow Leopard as I have just found out, to my cost.
I have a Java application that requires Java 1.5 in order not to crash randomly (Oxygen-XML) and, more seriously, I do Java development work for platforms where 1.5 is required.
Is there any official way to get it back? Or do I need to retrieve it from a Leopard installation?

Does this help/apply?
"Java for Mac OS X 10.5 Update 5 Developer Preview

  • Installing Java 1.5 on Snow Leopard Problem

I followed this link (http://chxor.chxo.com/post/183013153/installing-java-1-5-on-snow-leopard) to resolve a problem with getting some software to run...
But when it came to trying to open the app it opened Terminal and came up with this message...

It then opened Java, I waited a long time and found it wasn't responding. Any ideas?

Post to the Unix forum under OS X Technologies. BTW, review the steps in http://daveyshafik.com/archives/721-fixing-zde-5-5-in-snow-leopard.html and ensure that you did it correctly.

  • When will Apple release a patched version of Java JRE 6 for Snow Leopard?

When will Apple release a patched version of Java JRE 6 for Snow Leopard?

    Hello:
No one here can answer that question.  We are all users.  Apple may or may not do anything about Java in the future.

  • Java update version on Snow Leopard

IntelliJ had major problems with the Java Update 4 available for Leopard, so I ended up not installing it on my MBP. I am hesitating to install Snow Leopard (very temptingly sitting next to my keyboard) because of the issue. Anyone know if Java is at update 4 (I would expect it is), and if anyone has had a chance to see if there are issues with Java 6? Hoping to upgrade soon, but don't really want to have to clean reinstall Leopard in a day.
    Thanks
    Rakesh

Thanks. I installed the update yesterday, and have been running IntelliJ for a few hours without any of the issues I noticed with update 4.
The only issue I have seen so far is with screen sharing. I get just a blank window when I try to access my Leopard desktop machine. Not related in any way with my original post, but just thought I would share the information in case someone finds it useful.

  • How can I update to Java 7 jdk on snow leopard?

I am ready to scream at this point.  I have a mini mac with snow leopard 10.6.5 installed.  It has java version 1.6u22 INSTALLED.  I would like to install version 7 of the jdk but I have searched the web for hours now, looking to see if I can do this and I cant see how to.  I dont understand why???  If I was running ubuntu, I dont think I would have this issue ot even windows.  Now that saying something.
    Hope you can help.

The short answer is that you can't.  Apple supported Java directly up to Java SE 6.  They have now stopped supporting Java and begun to support the Open Source Java.net technologies project (which is basically the FOSS spin-off of Oracle for Java).
The Java.net current version of Java SE 7 is available for distribution via Oracle (and developer previews are available from Java.net).  However, it requires OS X 10.7.2 or higher.
I'm not sure if you can update your current version of Java SE 6 to the latest version if you update the OS to 10.6.8 (although I suspect that you can), but there is no path to reach Java SE 7 outside of an OS upgrade that I know of.
    Cheers.

  • Java Video Issues in Snow Leopard

    Hello,
After a little help and adive....
Been trying to fathem out my trouble with Java videos and games, I have looked through previous posts and tried what has been sugested and still not working, only thing I havnt tried is reinstalling Java, as I can seem to work out how to!
The videos are choppy, or I just get a black screen for about 15 sec, and games wont load or I cant click anything, I have been to the Java site and tested my installed Java and it showed it is working.
The Java prefrences wont let me select between 64 and 32 bit, and I dont have the check box that is the solution via Mac Support.
I get the same problems on Safari, Firefox and Chrome.
I am running a Macbook Pro on:
    Version 10.6.8 Build 10K549
    Safari 5.1.5
    Java 1.6.0_41-b04-415
    Any help would be great!
    Cheers, Steve

Java games?  What games are written in Java?
Even more curious, what videos use Java?
I think you are confusing Java with flash.
I don't know about the games but the video is dependent on a number of things; whether other processes are hogging the cpu, your internet connection speed, how fast the video server is, and how high the resolution of the video is.  In the latter case most online flash videos like youtube allow you to lower the resolution.  They have a little gear in the lower right toolbar of a video which you click to lower the resolution.
Make sure you have the latest flash plugin installed.  You should download it only from the adobe site.

  • Huge memory leak in java jvm after update 2 for Snow leopard

Since I updated to Java Update 2 for Snow Leopard my JVM suddenly grows massive (10GB+ real memory - -Xmx=3500m) consuming all memory and rendering my iMac unusable. This does not happen predictably but does happen several times a day now requiring I power off and on again.
I had been living happily with update 1 with no such problem.
I need to either go back to update 1 (should have it on Time Machine) or find a solution for this problem.

Our application is a j2ee-based commercial application facing to specified customers, having about 120 access request an hour.
We ' re doing stress test on the test server. The strange memory leak occurs at 1:20 am this morning while we're out of company , and no job was scheduled to run at that time. So I have the tendency to image that there is something inside oc4j had occured.
I have used OptimizeIt to monitor the heap status. However , as the memory leak problem occurs very occasionally ,and that tool deadly slows our server, we are currently using no profiling tools.

  • BPM studio doesn't start on snow leopard

I've installed BPM studion 10.3.1 on my mac running snow leopard. When I start the application the icon bounces for a few times in the dock and then quits without a message. If I start eclipse by hand from the eclipse folder it starts. I can select a working folder, after that it asks me if I want to send feedback to Oracle. After that Eclipse opens without a perspective. When I try to open the BPM perspective I get the error message "Problems opening perspective 'studioPerspective'". I can open other perspectives like Resource.
does anybody have a solution or a suggestion to look into?

I've found the answer myself. I figured that it should run, because it is just a java application. Snow Leapord comes with Java 1.6, but snow leopard is a 64bit OS. It comes with Java 6 64bit and 32bit. If you switch the order of the JRE for java applications in /Applications/Utilities/Java Preferences to show 32bit on top (just drag and drop) then studio just runs fine.
There is also a more advanced solution: Open finder and go the the installation folder of BPM Suite. The default is Applications/OraBPMStudioHome. Right click on the application called "Studio, choose "Show package content". Open Contents/Resources and right click on "script". Choose open with.., choose other and select Texteditor (or any other texteditor including xcode. Now put "-d32" without the "" on the last line just after "exec java". It should no read somethiing like:
    exec java -d32 "${OPTIONS[@]}" -jar "$DIR/plugins/org.eclipse.equinox.launcher_1.0.1.R33x_v20070828.jar" $X_ECLIPSE_OPTIONS -showsplash fuego.eclipse.studio
save the file. Now when you start the studio it is forced to use the 32bit JRE. Other java applications still take advantage of the 64bit JRE.

  • Oracle install on Snow Leopard

I'm trying to install Oracle on an up-to-date Mac Pro desktop and am running into what appears to be a "new" problem.
    System Software Overview:
    System Version:     Mac OS X 10.6.7 (10J869)
    Kernel Version:     Darwin 10.7.0
    Boot Volume:     Intel SSD
    Boot Mode:     Normal
    Computer Name:     My Mac Pro
    User Name:     Me (me)
    Secure Virtual Memory:     Not Enabled
    64-bit Kernel and Extensions:     Yes
    Time since boot:     20:02
I downloaded Oracle Database 10g Rel 2 for Mac OS X on Intel x86-64 and prepared for the install following the "install guides from Oracle, Oracle ACE Raimonds Simanovskis, and Oracle ACE Alex Gorbachev."
JDK 1.4.2 appears to be aliased on Snow Leopard. The only other problem I found is that 'uname' is in /usr/bin instead of bin.
I haven't seen this Exception in any of the discussions I've read.
Any ideas? They would be much appreciated.

  • JavaFX JavaScript bridge on Snow Leopard

    Hello,
Installed Snow Leopard and tested the javafx/js bridge example at: http://javafx.com/docs/articles/dice/.
It loads fine, but when i click any of those Set D1/D2/Both buttons, I get a "http://javafx.com exception occured" dialog. There are no exceptions on the java console per se. When I enabled applet life cycle errors logging, i did see one exception at load time (see below).
I have tried both the 32-bit and the 64-bit versions (through the java preferences UI on snow leopard) for java-plugins but don't see any difference. The platform version is 1.6.0_15 (if i am not wrong), and the bridge requires only 0_10 to work.
Please let me know if you are able to roll the dice fine enough and how..
    thanx,

It then says that Mac users doesn't have yet the next version. I'm not sure if this still applies, but I'm having the same problem for both the example apps and my own apps.
