Java 2 SE 5.0 Release 3 - bug after installing

After installing Java 2 SE 5.0 Release 3 with usual the periodic software update facility, I get capital and boxed "A"s everywhere in my desktop and file names and menus.....panic !!!

please don't follow that advice. Apple has carefully arranged all the java, javac, jar etc. commands to follow a series of symbolic links to the correct version. All you have to do (and it's nicely reversible) is to follow the advice in this thread http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=1183952#1183952 by datenimperator and all will work. If you don't like it, reverse the process.

  • Edit Sites Bug after installing MX 6.1 Update

Hi! I am wondering if there is a fix for the Edit
button in the Edit Sites window after installing the MX 6.1 update.
Everything works great after this update, I can do anything in the
Edit Sites Window *except* the Edit button is non-functional.
Anyone experience this and have any ideas? Many thanks in advance
for reading and for any advice!

i created the new account in system-preferences with my normal account(admin)
    in safe-boot mode.
i reinsatalled the Update, nothing changed...
very strange: I reinstalled Snow Loepard over the existing SL installation, and the problem still exists.
So i think, it's a problem in my homedirectory?
But why exists the problem at a new account?
    Don't understand this...
Perhaps the easiest way is to save my private data and do a complete
    new install...

  • Can I revert back to release 5 after installing rel 6

I installed itunes release 6 (I know, I know)and have had system instability (automatic reboots)on XP Sp2. How can I get a copy of release 5 to reinstall?
    Appreciate any help. GuitarMan

Well after doing this and yes restarting my computer etc. it took 2 minutes for itunes to start up
yuck. that shouldn't be happening. i get a 10-second start up on a good-but-two-year-old PC using itunes 6.0.0.18.
hmmm. okay, other possibilities. see the listing of itunes and QT processes given in the "Lorraine" technique:
    Lorraine M, "NIS/i-tunes problem rectified" #2, 12:51am Oct 17, 2005 CDT
    ... head into MSCONFIG:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=302538
... and check to see if any of the processes/startup items from that list that show up in your startup items happen to have been disabled.
it might also be worth experimenting in there to see if there's a conflict between itunes/QT and one of your other start-up itmes.

  • After Yosemite install Symantec AV LiveUpdate won't run citing Java RTE not found error even after install of Java 8 Update 25

I just installed Yosemite.  When I attempted to run Symantec Anti-Virus LiveUpdate (which worked fine under Mavericks) I got an error message stating "LiveUpdate was cancelled because Java Runtime was not found. Please run LiveUpdate once Java has been installed. For your convenience we will try to install Java using Apple Software Update."  Accordingly, I went to the Java website, downloaded and installed Java 8 Update 25.  However, I keep getting the same error message when I attempt to run LiveUpdate.  What must I do to get this AV software to work with Yosemite?

Get rid of Symantec. You don't need it, or Java for that matter, which comprises a potential vulnerability of its own. Get rid of it too.

  • Photoshop interop bug after installing update

I recently updated to ACR 5.3.0 (along with a few other updates, I wish I could be more specific, and it would be nice if there were a way to keep track of updates and optionally remove them, like Windows has), and the message about Lightroom being ahead of ACR (with the option to render, etc) finally went away.  However, now there's a new problem.  When I select an image and do Edit in Photoshop CS4,  Photoshop opens up the photo, but Lightroom doesn't put it alongside the original image in the collection - it's now shown as being in a different folder even though it's saved to the same directory on disk.  Here's what it looks like - I "edit in photoshop"ed a photo, and it created this new "folder" that now contains the single photoshop-exported image.
When I hover over them to see the location, the only difference is that the top one points to
    c:\users\theuser\documents\...
    and the second to
    c:\users\theuser\Documents\...
When I do "show in explorer" on the single image, it brings up the correct directory (containing the other photos).
Maybe an unnecessarily case-sensitive string comparison somewhere causing it?
Either way, I'd love to know whether this is a known issue.
    Thanks,
    Vladimir

Has anybody else observed this?  Also, what is the right place to file and follow up Lightroom bugs?
For some reason you have two folders with the same name, but one has an uppercase letter for the first letter. The problem has been reported before, but I don't recall anyone coming up with a consistent fix. I do notice that your folder names include a single Quote character ' Placing such characters in file names has in the past caused problems with Edit in Photoshop. So, removing them would be a good starting point for a possible fix.

  • Anyone have Bugs since installing IOS 8?

Anyone having bugs after installing IOS 8?

Oh yes.  iOS 8.x seems to be incompatible with accessing 2 of our 3 intranet sites.  We have an iPhone 6, iPhone 5 (upgraded to iOS 8) and a 4th Gen iPad (also upgraded).  One of the sites is a java application, the other is SharePoint.  The funny thing is we can access these sites from "outside" the firewall.  Though, the device asks for the credentials twice.
Also, the iPhone 6 has problems syncing photos.  There are 5k+ photos my boss is trying to sync.  iTunes shows it as syncing just fine.  However, when viewing the photos on the phone, many of the thumbnails are blank.  If you tap the photo, it briefly shows the photo, then it disappears with a message saying that its downloading the file, but it never downloads.

  • Removed all changes in Java source after installing Release 2 Update 1 Hot

I happened the same problem twice after installing Release 2 Update 1 Hot Fixes:
    Operations as followed:
    1. Open the project
    2. Modify some source code of the backing bean and then save the modifications.
    3. Click the design tab to display the UI of this page and click on a button.
    4. Click the property 'action' of this button in the property tab.
    5. The dialog shows and I choose 'Unset property'.
    6. Go back to its backing bean and guess what...
    7. All the changes I made in step 1 are all gone. The source code of the backing bean goes back to the status right after I opened Creator2.
I discussed the problem with my colleagues and they have similar situations after installing Release 2 Update 1 Hot Fixes. They may do some other things in the UI Design page and when back to the backing bean, the changes to the backing bean since Creator 2 is opened are all gone and the source code of the backing bean goes back to the status right after Creator2 is opened.

    This has been covered....

This looks like a follow up of Re: Error after installing Oracle Enterprise Linux (Release 5) on Dell T 110
Can you give more details what you are trying to do or trying to accomplish. Where are you trying to ping to?
It could be that you have not defined your gateway or DNS server for name to IP mapping. What is the output of
    # netstat -rn
    # cat /etc/resolv.conf

  • After installing recent java + security update, computer will not sleep

After installing the recent java, daylight savings, and the security update. my computer will not sleep. Does anyone else have this problem? I do have an adaptec usb2 card installed but nothing is plugged into it. Also i don't have any Ipods or external things plugged in. I have had the same setup for the past year with no problems, now it will not sleep. I have also tried repairing the permissions. Please help

When you select Sleep from the Apple Menu nothing happens, is that correct? Try this: Go menu > Home > Library > Preferences. Drag the whole of the Preferences folder to the desktop. Restart your mac, don’t worry if things look different, you have not lost anything. Can the mac sleep now? If yes, then its a damaged or corrupted .plist or preference. If you are using Apple Mail, drag the com.apple.mail.plist back to the new preferences folder created on reboot, you dont really need anything else but keep hold of the old preferences (the one you dragged to your desktop) just in case for a month or two. If everything else is OK you can safely delete it. If it has not cured the problem then remove the new preferences folder created on reboot by taking it to the trash, drag back the preferences folder you moved to the desktop and reboot. Now reinstall a clean OS. See how you go from there

I have had the same setup for the past year with no problems, now it will not sleep. I have also tried repairing the permissions. Please help

A number of sleep-related issues can appear after incremental Mac OSX updates, including the inability to properly go to sleep, problems waking from sleep, and having your display go to sleep without your Mac going to sleep. The most common culprit is Bluetooth. Try these tips to fix your sleep problems.
    WAKE UP
In System Preferences>Bluetooth, uncheck Allow Bluetooth Devices To Wake This Computer. If you are using a Bluetooth mouse and keyboard, you'll have to wake your Mac by pressing the power button.
    FILE CORRUPTION
Your Bluetooth preference file may be corrupt-you'll need to delete it. Turn Bluetooth off, then go to the /Users/user name/Library/Preferences folder. Look for a file called com.apple.Bluetooth.plist and trash it.The OS will create a new preference file when you enable Bluetooth again.
    ENERGY SAVER
If you have issues with a Mac or display that goes to sleep at inappropriate times, you may have a problem with Energy Saver. Delete the following .plist files and restart:
    -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.PowerManagement.plist
    -/Users/username/Library/Preferences/com.apple.systemuiserver.plist--
(username is your name or System Administrators name)
    -/Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/com.apple.AutoWake.plist
A restart is very important after deleting these plists. After a reboot your Mac will then generate new ones.
Some, in these forums, have had luck fixing sleep issues downloading the Combo update from this site (yours may be corrupt), not Software Update, disconnect all firewire + USB devices except keyboard + mouse, Repair Permissions, re-install update, Repair Permissions again + try.
Yours would be the 10.4.8 Combo update. Others reading, download the combo update that applies to you!
    Cheers!

  • Java.lang.NullPointerException- After Installing BOXI 4.0

    Hello All
I installed BOXI 4.0 on Windows Server 2008 and then used ODBC driver to connect to BW database. After installing when i try to login to CMC using the url http://localhost:8080/BOE/CMC and then enter the credentials i get an empty page with the error
    "AN ERROR HAS OCCURRED JAVA.LANG.NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION".
The same happens when i open BI Launchpad using the URL "An "AN ERROR HAS OCCURRED JAVA.LANG.NULLPOINTEREXCEPTION".
Please help me resolve the issue.
    Thanks
    Ahmed Shaik

    Hi Ahmed
Generally it is not recommended to install BI 4.0 on the SAP BW database, but rather on it's own instance instead. Also depending on how the software is licensed, there may be implications in the license cost.
Regarding the java error, in some cases you have to redeploy the web applications.

  • Illustrator CS6 doesn't open after installing Yosemite (Java issue)

Illustrator CS6 can't open and gives  message "need to install the legacy Java SE6 runtime" and gives Apple link to Java program. But even after installing latest java CS6 doesn't work. What can I do? ?

    Claudia,
Here is a direct download link that should work:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/DL1572
Some have found that the page may turn up blank to start with, so it may be necessary to reload the page.
Others have found that it may depend on browser. Specifically, a switch from Safari has solved it in one case.

  • I get a message to install legacy JAVA SE 6, after installing Yosemite

After installing the OS X Yosemite I get the message: to open "CS5ServiceManager" you need to install the legacy Java SE 6 runtime. A link to download legacy JAVA is provided but webpage is frozen. Any suggestions or links?

The person at Adobe was not very educated on the subject. Compared to newer verions of Java, yes, it's less secure. But the only real danger of Java (not JavaScript) is having Java enabled in a web browser. By default in Mavericks and Yosemite, Java is off.
If you install Java 8 from Oracle, it will automatically enable Java in your browser. You then need to go into the System Preferences Java control applet to turn it off.
The Java 6 runtime linked to above does not enable Java in your browser. It's there simply to support apps (like Adobe's) that need it to function. In that respect, it's perfectly safe. I have Java 6 and 8 both installed on my Mac. I need 6 for X-Rite's ColorPort app, and the newer one for Java apps I have to use to upload client images to get prints made. With Java disabled in the web browsers, it is, again, perfectly safe.
