Java 6 and non standard keyboards

I'm using a Java 6 app on my MacBook Pro. I have a microsoft external keyboard and I am using the "British - Microsoft" keyboard layout.
With this setup no Java 6 app will accept any keyboard entry. Typing has no effect.
If I change to "British" keyboard layout then keyboard entry works, but obvisouly the keyboard layout doesn't match my physical keyboard layout.
Any ideas how I can set things up so I can enter text into Java 6 apps using a keyboard layout that matches my keyboard?
Thanks
John

PS It might be worth trying other keyboard layouts designed to match non-Apple British keyboards:

  • Standard and Non-standard exports and queries issue

    Hi,
We have created a few STANDARD books with standard exports in them. The standard exports use standard queries.
The ISSUE is that in the Verifications/Filters tab, where we have put in a lot of queries - ONLY the STANDARD queries show up. We would like to have all the queries show up. I am the adminsitrator and still only the standard ones show up.
I am worried that if I "Save As" the export as a non-standard export, it does not allow me to uncheck the standard tick column and save it but I have to manually change the name of the export. Can we change this in anyway?
Is there a system preference where I can allow all the queries to show up in the verifications/filter tab at least for the admnistrators if not for all? Thanks
    - Ad

Thanks for your input but DRM does seem to be behaving what you said or may be I am still missing something here.
    I created a standard query.
    I have a standard export.
Now, in the verification/filter tab of my Standard export, I am able to see my standard queries.
    But,
I am unable to see the Non-Standard Queries.
    HOWEVER,
If I have a Non-Standard export --> I am able to ALL the queries. This makes it a lot more flexible in doing things.
My question is the WHY are my standard exports not able to reach the non-standard queries. What I wanted to do a twist in my export for analysis purposes for a particular use. If non-standard exports have access to Standard and Non-Standard queries --> it just makes more sense to always use a non-standard export and create non-standard queries.

  • MSI, please stop using non-standard keyboard layouts.

God dam it MSI, why do you insist on messing with layout of the bottom row of the keyboard?
You get everything else right, but for some reason when it comes to the bottom row of keys you want to say "Industry standards? 20 years of tradition? Fack that, we're gonna move things around for no facking reason."
Explain to me why you feel the need to put a superfluous "\" key on the keyboard to the right of the space bar. Nobody wanted that, nobody was asking for that, nobody needs that. Why the hell did you do that?
Explain why the Menu key is missing in action.
Explain why you put the Windows key on the wrong side. And while you're at it, explain why you thought this clusterfack of having that second "\" key there in combination with the missing menu key being not where it is on top of the Windows key being in the wrong place was a good idea.
Bottom row of a standard keyboard layout goes like this:
Ctrl, Fn, Alt, Win, Space bar, Alt, Win, Menu, Ctrl.
    MSI layout goes like.
Ctrl, Fn, Alt Space Bar, \, Alt Gr, Win, Ctrl!
    WHY?!
MSI seems to think that having the keys in the right place so my fingers will know where they are without having to learn key placement all over again is a horrible idea. Instead they seem to think that my fingers should need to relearn the god dam keyboard all over again for no reason at all.
But hey, at least the kept the numpad the same, right?
    GOD DAM IT MSI!
Aparantly MSI logic works like this:
    Everyone uses the numpad.
Nobody uses the trackpad to game.
Delete that numpad that everyone uses, insert fancy trackpad that nobody will use.
    Profit?
What the hell are you people smoking?
Seriously, when is the last time you gamed on a PC with anything other than a mouse in your right* hand? Do you ever use the trackpad when you game? Ever? I own two laptops and I never, ever use the useless trackpad. I hate trackpads. First thing I do when I buy a new laptop? I plug in a mouse. Second thing I do? Disable the god dam trackpad.
*Some left-handed use of mice can occur. See nearest lefties for details. May contain nuts. For external use only.

I had a Gateway FX years ago that was a great laptop, but the "fn" key was at the bottom left instead of ctrl. I used that laptop for years and I was never able to become accustomed to it for gaming (group select ctrl+# ffs) or word processing, so I feel your pain.
That being said, you should be able to re-bind your keys without any problem, and possibly pop off the keys themselves and move them to their new locations if they're the same size and you like that consistency. You can rebind via the registry, or certain bios, or w/ a third party application.
The track pad is essential if you've got limited space and/or aren't a twitch gamer. For non-real time games, there is hardly any advantage to using a mouse over a good track pad.

  • AV output and non-standard frame sizes

I usually work in non-standard frame size for my FCP projects because my final output will be in a 2:35:1 ratio. I use a Blackmagic Ultrastudio Mini Monitor as an HDMI output to a client monitor. Up until a few months ago the AV output of FCPX would allow the Mini Monitor to accept a frame size of 1920x818 and letterbox the output to 16x9 on this consumer grade LCD. One day, this just stopped working... I've reached out to Blackmagic and they have no solution or reason why this happened, and are not willing to offer support since what I was achieving wasn't an "officially supported" feature. Now, the AV output will distort the image vertically to fill a 16x9 frame. At this point I am stuck having to use either a matte layer or a widescreen effect on individual clips to output correctly to my monitor which increases edit time having to re-render any edits underneath the matte and having to re-order the letterbox effect after apply color correction etc. It was also very easy to adjust the frame offset with this wide angle project size.
Is anyone editing in 2:35:1 (or other cinema standard) projects and getting successful conversion on output? What are you using?
    Cheers,
    Matt

Thanks Tom, you clarified it .......  or at least something clicked in my brain.
I was trying to set "Custom" when I created the new project.
I didn't know, or had forgotten, that in the "error" window I could select "Custom".
All is now well and FCP X 10.1.1 is pretty clever after all!
There is one weird thing I'd like to mention.
When I clicked on "Custom" the 960 x 600  frame dimensions appeared but the  frame rate was listed as 23.98p as shown in the screenshot below.
    So what's wrong with that?
Well the clip is 30p  and I naturally thought I was going to end up with a project with an incorrect frame rate.
Now here's the funny thing  .........  when I selected the project and viewed it in the Inspector it was the correct 30p
So why was I given that worrying piece of misinformation.

  • NCS and non US keyboard layout - Guest - Email ID and @

    Problem:
The problem is that we cannot email the Guest Account Details to the guest, because the popup where we fill in the email of the guest - Email ID - Does not recognise the @ when using non US Keyboard layout.
When i use my local keyboard layout (Danish) and press AltGr+2 (this is the keyboard "shortcut" for @) it writes nothing.
When i switch to US keyboard layout and press Shift+2 it writes @ fine.
    Version:
Tried this in both 1.0 and I just upgraded to 1.1 and it is still the same.
Does anyone know of a open BugID that addresses the following problem on the NCS Lobby Ambasador page ?

    Thomas,
Have you tried it from different machines and different OSes and confirmed that the common denominator is NCS and not your specific KB/OS setup?

  • IPad and non-standard DNS

On our internal network, we use non-standard top level domains (.int) rather than the usual .com, .net, .info, etc.
I'm using an App called SharePlus Lite Office Mobile to try to access our corporate SharePoint sites. I've added our .int domain into the iPad's DNS Search domains, but whenever I try to access the SharePoint server, I get a 400 - HTTP/1.1 400 Bad Request Error. If I try to access a SharePoint site that is using a standard gtld (.com), I have no problem accessing it.

  • Java JCE and PKCS standards

I'd like to know if the Sun JDK supports PKCS standards. In particulary, I am interested in PKCS#7 standard.
    1) Is it possible with java to sign a document and store the signature in a pkcs#7 file format.
For example, I have signed data, the public key, the signature itself, etc.
    2) Is there in java a possibility to generate a PKCS#7 file format given these parameters ?
Until here, I use bouncy castle but I would prefer to use JDK of course (better portability) .... at least for question 1. But for question 2, does BC still afford to do that point ?
    Thanks

I don't believe JDK supports any instance of PKCS#7. At least for JDK1.5 and below -- I'm not familiar with 1.6. Actually, it might support the PKCS#7 format for storing certificate chains somewhere. CMS and S/MIME are essentially based on PKCS#7. See RFC3852. One of the formats includes the message, the message signature, and the certificate containing the public key, all bundled together in one message. All these are provided by the bouncycastle mail package.

  • Really unusual and non-standard situation with Apple ID...

    Hi everyone!
My name is Roman and I'm form Kyiv (Ukraine).
I will really appreciate any ideas concerning possible solve of mentioned below situation:
My wife is using iPhone 5 and the day before yesterday she made an software update to ios 8.0.2.
Everything went fine... and after activation system asked for the appleid and password. The problem is my wife forgot the password and asked me to solve this issue. Later on i went to "iforgot" and asked to sent the 'reset" on her e-mail, but this e-mail is [email protected] (system sends the recovery link on the mailbox where i need to access). Paradox. Moving on I've tried to find out what was the alternative e-mail and checked all our possible mailboxes and did not find any mention of the appleid. Finally, I've decided to reset the password with the security questions. And another shot is on the first step (indicate birthday) none of our family birthdays are suitable At the very end we've called to the apple support center and tried to manage this mass with the operator. Unfortunately we did not indicate the credit card details while icloud account creation. Last chance is the security questions since as we found out there some unusual stuff with the alternative e-mail (as we been told). We had to answer two of security questions. (It is not a problem). But, when we call to nearest apple client service (in Moscow) (we wait for 20 - 25 minutes) and than operator kindly asks to provide answers and spell those. (And if you do at least one mistake or misunderstanding in spelling of any word you have to call back in eight hours and try again). As far as we saw, from Ukraine spelling might differ somehow via land-line talk.
I understand that the security is a high priority always and respect this.
Please let me know if there and chance to provide all the information somewhere (f.e. serial number, id scan, family photos, all known details, etc.) to solve this issue?
P.S. If there is no solution, than I'll probably have to buy the new iPhone to my wife

Did you contact Apple via iTunes Store Support: http://www.apple.com/support/itunes/contact.html
Other posters here have reported prompt responses with similar issues. And, no, your apps are attached to the account under which you purchased them, so creating a new account will not work.

  • Dwm and non-english keyboard layouts problem

    Hi all,
I am using dwm 5.5. I'm Greek so I change between keyboard layouts all the time,
    see the relevant xorg.conf section:
    Section "InputDevice"
    Identifier "Generic Keyboard"
    Driver "kbd"
    Option "XkbRules" "xorg"
    Option "XkbModel" "pc105"
    Option "XkbLayout" "us,gr"
    Option "XkbVariant" ","
    Option "XkbOptions" "grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll"
    EndSection
Now the thing is that whenever I switch to Greek (by pressing Alt+Shift) the
dwm tags (1,2,...,9) are not clickable (keyboard shortcuts do work
though, so it's not a very big problem).
Do you have any ideas about how to fix that behavior? I'd go to the dwm irc
channel and ask them, but I'll be a "newbie asking stupid questions" so I
    preferred to ask here
    Thanks in advance

  • Mixing and exporting for more than 8 channels and non-standard multichannel setups

I am trying to do something kind of unconventional, although I have seen people on the forums trying to do similar things. Unfortunately, it's unclear if they succeeded or not, and if they did, how.
I'm trying to figure out how to mix sound for an environment that has many (somewhere between 8 and 16) independent speakers, all connected to an audio interface. I know that WAV, AAC, and other audio file formats can carry that many channels and I can map them to the individual speakers. My question is how to edit/mix. Specifically,
Is this possible in Audition? It seems like it might be in CC, but not previous? (I have CS6.)
How do you set up the project file. When I create a new multitrack project, I can choose mono, stereo, or 5.1. The 5.1 option allows me to assign sounds to the five speakers in a standard 5.1 setup and the LFE. Is it possible mix for an environment with more than that? Or with a different configuration of speakers? In Audio MIDI Setup (for Windows people, that's where in OSX you set the more advanced audio preferences) I can configure up to 7.1 as well as geometric arrangements like quadrophonic, hexagonal, and octagonal. Is it possible in Audition to mix for anything like these?
There have been some threads where people talk about using 16 discrete outputs in Audition. How is this possible? Is each track able to be routed to a different output? If so, is it possible to write a file that has all of these tracks assigned to their discrete output channels?
Is it possible to nest audio sessions like you can nest Premiere sequences? For example, can I create a multitrack project with mono output and have that session be embedded into another multitrack session or do I have to finish editing the first one and write a file from it to use it in another project? Can buses be used to do this? What I'm wondering is if what I describe in #3 above IS possible, then how to have more than just a single pre-made audio file going to each of the outputs, to allow me to mix each channel with various sounds.
Sorry that's a few questions, but they all revolve around how to work with multi-channel sound that isn't stereo or 5.1.
    Thanks!

As you have probably gathered, this is effectively a work in progress...

At present, this is restricted to what you can see, but there's sort-of a workaround - albeit not an ideal one...
There have been some threads where people talk about using 16 discrete outputs in Audition. How is this possible? Is each track able to be routed to a different output? If so, is it possible to write a file that has all of these tracks assigned to their discrete output channels?
If you have a multichannel sound device, and all the outputs are visible to Audition, then yes, each track can be assigned directly to a different output. And if you set one up, you can do this with buses as well...
Is it possible to nest audio sessions like you can nest Premiere sequences? For example, can I create a multitrack project with mono output and have that session be embedded into another multitrack session or do I have to finish editing the first one and write a file from it to use it in another project? What I'm wondering is if what I describe in #3 above IS possible, then how to have more than just a single pre-made audio file going to each of the outputs, to allow me to mix each channel with various sounds.
It's not possible to nest sessions at present in any version, and this has been asked about before. There are some significant issues with this, mainly to do with things like sample rates, output formats, etc. Doesn't mean that it won't happen, but don't hold your breath... As I said, there's a workaround, and yes, it's buses. Since you can effectively submix to a bus, and the bus output can go directly to hardware, then you can do what you want. The compromise is that in order to save the overall result, you'll end up with all of your source files, and a session file. And you'll have to play the whole thing back in Audition, rather than export it to a single file and be able to play it on a multichannel player. But yes, it should work.

  • Freezing phone and non working keyboard

I just got my first Iphone, its the 3GS. Everything is good with it except that every once in awhile, certain parts of the screen (specifically when using the keyboard) stop working. I woud try and type a certain letter and it wont work, but the others work fine. I went to the ATT store i bought it from and they said to go to an apple store. I dont live close so i was hoping someone can confirm this as an actuall problem or help me fix the problem so i dont have to make the trip.

Have you tired anything to troubleshoot the issue?
If not here are some ideas.
First you can try Apple's troubleshooting assistant:
    http://www.apple.com/support/iphone/assistant/phone/
And then here is Apple's support document for troubleshooting:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1737
If that doesn't help then look into making a trip to the Apple Store where they will probably replace the iPhone if they are unable to fix it. I would highly suggest making an appointment with the genius bar that way you are guaranteed to see somebody for your issue and won't have to wait around for too long.

  • Firmware password and non-US keyboards

Hello everyone, I decided to post it here for your information. Anyone who have plans to set a firmware password to his Mac, and doesn't have a US keyboard, BE CAREFUL with the inclusion of symbols of its own keyboard layout (for example, I'm italian and so I've: "èàùéòì" but also "@" in different positions unlike the US layout). That because, as shown here: http://goo.gl/VJtOzA the system, during the setup will follow the classic layout of your keyboard (if you are Italian, "it-IT"), BUT during the insertion process it loads the default layout ("en-US") and so the symbols will be located in different places.
I have no idea why Apple did not warn of this thing in the process of setting!

Hopefully the following might help clarify my response:
If I had a work-around for this problem (other than the obvious "don't do that"), I'd have provided it.
If Apple were likely to see a problem report here, I'd have not passed it along to the Apple folks manually and directly.  They've received and acknowledged the report.
If Apple were likely to see and act on problem reports and postings here, I'd have not suggested it be reported formally.
Unless the reports are in the Apple bug-tracking systems, I'd not expect to see the reports particularly considered.
Botching the keyboard handing for a password prompt is not something I'd consider appropriate behavior.  I'd consider it a bug.
Whether  considers this a bug and worth pushing out a fix to the firmware and/or the bootstrap, I don't know.
For what it's worth, an article on Mac firmware and password processing from 2001 is exceedingly unlikely to be relevant to any current Mac systems. PowerPC (PPC) processors were used in 2001, and with completely different firmware (Open Firmware / OpenBoot, IIRC) than is used with the current EFI-based firmware present within all of the Intel-based Mac systems.  Open Firmware / OpenBoot is very different from EFI / UEFI firmware.
I didn't follow the original shortened link, as I didn't know where that is going.  One of the available link unshorteners translates that shortened link as a MacWorld article for OS X 10.1 which references Open Firmware password handling.   In summary, it would appear that somebody else has created the same basic bug, a ~dozen years on.

  • Cloned bootdisk and non-standard home directory location fails login

I'm running 10.6.3 and have my home directory on a separate partition (but the same physical disk) from my boot partition. I've just used carbon copy cloner to clone the boot partition to a third partition on a separate physical disk for backup. when i boot from the clone, the user account auto logs in but has lost my settings (goes through the welcome video etc.). if i then go into the advanced options in Accounts prefpane and choose the (old) home directory again (whose path is already displayed in the prefs) and reboot, the login fails.
My question is: Is it possible to have the home directory on a separate partition and still have a working clone of the boot partition?
Thanks in advance for any guidance you can give...

ok - answered this one myself. i used Super Duper instead, and made a sandbox backup of my bootdisk, which uses alias links to files and apps. this meant i could have a test bed bootable partition which wouldn't cause trouble for my main install. not perfect but workable...
