Java 6 update 5 vs. se runtime environment 6 update 1
I noticed that I have both java 6 update 5 and se runtime environment 6 update 1 on my computer.
Do I need both? What are the advantages of each? Is there a better version of Java that I should download instead? Where is the free download link? My e.mail address is: [email protected]
you shouldn't need both. the newer one fixes stuff in older ones. Of course update 10 is out, so why not update to that.
also, posting your email address is a good way to get spam. no one hear is going to email answers directly to you.

Fatal Error (Java Runtime Environment) starting Install of Oracle WebLogic Server
Hello,
I am installing Oracle Fusion on OEL 6 and have hit a problem with weblogic. This worked for me on my TEST server a few months ago.
I have also successfully installed the "Install Repository Creation Utility (RCU)"
I am unable to launch Weblogic and discoverer_11gR1_ofm's runInstallers. The both give me the same error.
I am now at the step of installing the WLS 10.3.6 as follows:

Java Runtime Environment 6.0 update 11 NOT loading Java Applet
As soon as I have installed Java Runtime Environment 6.0 update 11, my web based applications Applet is not loading. The applet only loads after minimize and the maximize my IE 6.0 Browser. As soon as I uninstalled (removed) Java Runtime Environment 6.0 update 11 from my system, everything works fine.
I have Java Runtime Environment 6.0 update 3 and Java Runtime Environment 6.0 update 5 on my system. Please help to find a fix for this issue.

MohanMany of these strange browser problems can be solved by launching the applet using webstart. Is there any reason this applet has to be embedded in a browser window?

Updating Java Runtime Environment
Hi All,
I'm trying to update the Java 2 Runtime on my PC from 1.3.1_01 to 1.4.2_13.
I've installed 1.4.2 on my PC but when I type "Java -version" on the cmd to check the version i still get
java version "1.3.1_01"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.3.1_01, mixed mode)
Do I have to change anything?
Your support is highly appreciated.Thank you for your reply.
The OS is windows XP. I've checked the Add/Remove Programs, 1.3.1 is not there.
My path variable shows the following:
C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 6\bin\orb\asp\6.0\bin;C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 6\bin\orb\bin;C:\Program Files\Business Objects\BusinessObjects Enterprise 6\bin;C:\oracle\ora92\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.3.1
\bin;C:\Program Files\Oracle\jre\1.1.8\bin;%SystemRoot%\system32;%SystemRoot%;%SystemRoot%\System32\Wbem;"C:\Program Files\Hummingbird\Connectivity\7.00\Accessories\";C:\Program Files\Hummingbird\Connectivity\7.00\NFSClient;c:\Program Files\Microsoft SQL Server\80\Tools\Binn\;C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\bin;C:\Program Files\IBM\WebSphere MQ\tools\c\samples\bin;C:\Program Files\Sun\MessageQueue3\bin
The 1.4 version is on the following path: C:\Program Files\Java\j2re1.4.2_13\bin
I tried manually adding it to the original path but it didn't work.
Any suggestions?

Deleting Java SE Runtime Environ Updates
I have a laptop quickly running out of disk space, can you tell me if I can delete any of these huge updates through WIndows Add or Delete Programs?
Java SE RUntime Environment 6 Update 1
Java 2 RUntime Environment, SE v 1.4.2_03
Java SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 6
Java SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 3
Java SE Runtime Environment 5.0 update 10
Each is over 100MB and I'm wondering if only the Highest version and highest update number are necessary
Thankscheck out:
http://java.com/en/download/faq/5000070400.xml -
I am asked to install this update by an educational website.
The sequence of events is:
1. Message appears at interactive site on page "A plugin is needed to display this content." along with an Install Plugin button.
2.Pressing the install button brings up a dialogue box, "Plugin Finder Service" with "Java Runtime Environment" ticked.
3. I press "Next" to install. New dialogue box comes up showing "Java Runtime Environment" as "Not available" and states that no plugins were installed.
4. The only availablre option "finish," closes the dialogue box.
I have tried following instructions in help but these always bring me back to the same process. I have downloaded the most recent Java software and nothing has changed.
Any ideas to successfully install "Java Runtime Environment." Maybe there's a successor plug-in.
All help gratefully received.
Thanks,
Andrew BramleyHello Andrew, try download [https://www.java.com/en/download/faq/whatis_java.xml Java Runtime Environment (JRE)] from the next link : https://www.java.com/en/download/ . If you can not then try the manual way from the next link : https://www.java.com/en/download/manual.jsp (select the Windows Offline, filesize: 28.0 MB). In.... general, try to use the official sites when you install Java or flash etc.

Removing Java 2 Runtime Environment, SE v1.4.2_04
I'm having problems removing this from my pc. I tried using the Add/Remove Programs and get an error message. Basically it ells me that "The file 'C:\Documents and Settings\Administrator\Local Settings\Application Data\etc.......... is not a valid installation package for the product Java 2 Runtime Environment SE v1.4.2_04 etc.......... etc........
However when I do a browse to that location I do see the .msi package it is looking for. I tried to reinstall the package but cannot because it tells me I already have a version installed. How can I remove this? I'm willing to go as far as doing it manually. Thanks.
AllenThe security enhancements are documented at http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.5.0/ReleaseNotes.html#150_06
Changes in 1.5.0_06
Prior to this update [1.5.0_06], an applet or [Java Web Start] application could specify the version of the JRE on which it would run. This has changed. All applets are executed with the latest JRE version. Unsigned Java Web Start applications that specify a version other than the latest trigger a warning, requiring explicit user permission before the application will run. Signed Java Web start applications are not affected.
In other words, only Applets and unsigned Java Web Start applications are affected by the security enhancements. Standalone applications can select any JRE they want, even if it is the outdated 1.4.2_13. -

How do i get rid of a pop up window that asks me to run Java Runtime Environment?
If you're referring to a Mac and not an iPad, then most likely, you have a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple, such as the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it, including its automatic update mechanism (if any) according to the developer's instructions. Otherwise, install Java.

I have an ongoing frustrating problem. Java has stopped working on my pc. When I go to the java icon and open I get error "The system cannot find the registry key HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Javasoft\Java Runtime Environment 1.5.0_06" If I try to uninstall update 6 from xp service pack 2 add and remove programs I get the error "error applying transforms. Verify that the spedcified transform paths are valid" If I try to remove update 1, it errors "You already have this version of the Jre installed. Please uninstall the product through your add/remove programs utility before reinstalling". If I hit the OK button, I get "Fatal error during installation" (even though I am trying to uninstall)
I am very frustrated as I cannot find anything on the website to assist, and my son is going spare not being able to play runescape! Please Help
TrompyAs a possible workaround try offline installation which can be from:
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/index.jsp
At the same time, if the above workaround fails the exercise is little complex. If you have tried downloading update 1.5.0_xx, then likely a .msi file is saved in the location as mentioned below:
Possible path:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Sun\Java\jre1.5.0_xx
Note: This is irrespective of installation failure or success. Replace xx with the correct version you are trying to install
There is also a bug filed where you can submit useful information to help finding regular solution to this issue:

AutoVue for Agile PQM - Java Runtime Environment Question
Greetings,
An end user is attempting to view/open attachments within Agile Product Quality Management (PQM); we use Agile PQM 9.3.1.
When clicking on an attachment file, a pop-up screen opens with a javascript alert, prompting the user with, "Please Install Java Runtime Environment." After clicking "OK", user is redirected to java download website. User downloads and installs the update.
After rebooting the machine, we attempt to access the attachment file again within PQM and receive the same error message, "Please Install Java..."
After installing the first java update, the user is now on the following java version:
Java Plug-in 10.55.2.14
Using JRE version 1.7.0_55-b14 Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM
Do we need to install the second update to be able to view attachments within Agile PQM via AutoVue?
I can't test the java updates myself because there are some legacy Oracle apps that I won't be able to support if I update my java.
Thanks in advance,
WilliamYou might want to post the question to the Agile forum
The popup you see seems to be tied to Agile code itself and not AutoVue
AutoVue will work on Java 7u55
But you are running Agile, so you will need to make sure the rest of the apps are confirmed with 7u55
You also need to review Java update guidelines, by default you will be always prompted to install the latest java update -
Error initializing Java Runtime Environment. You may need to reinstall Flash.
...This is really annoying.
I work with adobe cs5. Recently, it started to not work. I would have to restart it over and over to get it to compile an swf properly. So I am trying cs5.5. I get this error "Error initializing Java Runtime Environment. You may need to reinstall Flash."
So im like OK....Thats helpful....
-reinstalls flash-
"Error initializing Java Runtime Environment. You may need to reinstall Flash."
-reinstalls java-
-reinstalls flash-
-reinstalls adobe flash cs5.5-
"Error initializing Java Runtime Environment. You may need to reinstall Flash."
-google-
So I come across this post. Follow it exactly.
"Error initializing Java Runtime Environment. You may need to reinstall Flash."
I change the thingy in the file to Xmx1024M
"Error initializing Java Runtime Environment. You may need to reinstall Flash."
I come to the forums.
What do I do now?Intro:
Finally I got near to roots of that mysterious Error
"Error initializing Java Runtime Environment. You may need to reinstall Flash."
So here is what I'm found out + Bugfix
JavaPatch for Adobe Flash CS5 / CS6... Ver #1 [ 21.01.2014 ]
======================================
This is the fix the bug in Flash tell you all the time that
Java could not be loaded. The effect of this error is that
Actionscript will not work.
Flash gives a little misleading error messages that tells you that
"There is no Actionscript in the current Project"
background information:
The problem is that the Java Virtual Machine.dll demands on startup
250MB huge contiguous memory blocks, but the 2GB-Virtual address
space of the Flash.exe process is already filled with various loaded dll's
BEFORE you continue ensure that you install/copied JRE 1.8.0 update 31 to
%ProgramData%\Adobe\CS5\jre\
For testing check if ...Adobe\CS5\jre\bin\java.exe starts
(and shows a help about available commands)
The Patch is for 32-bit version only!
(however the problem is probably not in the 64-Bit Version - since there a process has a much large more 'space')
Well SIMPLE FIX / Workaround:
Use 64-Bit version of Adobe Flash !
TechDetails:
Java's JVM.dll loaded in Ollydebug - The patched / change bytes are red.
^-Note that String ASCII "NUMA page alloc..." - will be a great 'link' to easily find that location in other JVM-versions to applied the patch there. Open jvm.dll in Ollydebug open String Ref. Windows and search for the string...
Download instructions:
Right click on picture above and download it.
Drag/open the *.jpg in / into Winrar / 7-Zip
OR
Rename 'Flash-CSX-jvm-JavaPatch #1.7z.jpg' -> 'Flash-CSX-jvm-JavaPatch #1.7z' so you open it by doubleclick
-> My creative solution for that A-Dope-board missing 'Attach file feature'
Tested:
with Adobe Flash CS5 + JRE 1.8.0 update 31
More Techstuff:
Some of my notes that might be useful:
Note the memory is not real allocated in the way it can be use since to write or read from it is just allocated as
MEM_RESERVE like you see in the screenshot above. And freed just a little alter.
It seems that java just checks if it could possible the maximal the JVM is made for.
Note the problem is not that you have to less physical RAM installed.
It's more related how memory is organise.
Well in 32 Bit each process has 4GB (or well practically Windows limits this to 2GB).
0x00000000 to 0x7FFF0000
This space is virtual and not actually claimed (else you would very quickly run out of RAM) but it a kind of potential or Adress system. Na sorry that'll be to offtopic to explain all the basic's about memory.
Adobe Flash CS5 calls
jvm.dll!JNI_CreateJavaVM( OUT **p_vm, OUT **p_env, IN *vm_args);
The 'vm_args'
typedef struct JavaVMInitArgs {
jint version; 00010004
1. /* user classes */
-D java.class.path=
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5\Common\Configuration\ActionScript 3.0\;
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5\Common\Configuration\ActionScript 3.0\asc_authoring.jar;
C:\Program Files\Adobe\Adobe Flash CS5\Common\"...
2. /* set native library path */
-D java.library.path=
C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CS5\jre\bin
3.
-D java.Home=C:\ProgramData\Adobe\CS5\jre
4. classpath append
-X bootclasspath/a:
C:\Program Files\Java\jdk1.7\jre\lib\ext\QTJava.zip
5. Headless mode is a system configuration in which the display device, keyboard, or mouse is lacking. Headless mode support has been available since the J2SE 1.4 platform.
-D java.awt.headless=true
jboolean ignoreUnrecognized; 1
} JavaVMInitArgs;
So for any further exploration about this Java problem setting a breakpoint to 'JVM.dll!JNI_CreateJavaVM' will be a great startpoint -
How to Force Internet Explorer specific Java Runtime Environment?
Problem: UConn uses a tool called Blackboard. Blackboard requires Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_07-b03)
but I develop so NETBeans IDE needs/wants JDK6 ( likes JDK 6 Update 16 )
Tried managing add-ons in IE, Tried Firefox too.
What I want is to have IE forced to the JDK5 runtime and let my other applications (NetBeans, Oracle, OracleSQLDeveloper, Firefox and MYSQL use the JDK6). I know NEtBeans will allow to specify which JDK but it seems that IE still sees both and screws up.
Things I tried but didnt work: managing add-ons and I saw items like this Force Internet Explorer to use a specific Java Runtime Environment install?
from: http://stackoverflow.com/questions/71254/force-internet-explorer-to-use-a-specific-java-runtime-environment-install
First, disable the currently installed version of Java. To do this, go to Control Panel > Java > Advanced > Default Java for Browsers and uncheck Microsoft Internet Explorer.
Next, enable the version of Java you want to use instead. To do this, go to (for example) C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_15\bin (where jre1.5.0_15 is the version of Java you want to use), and run javacpl.exe. Go to Advanced > Default Java for Browsers and check Microsoft Internet Explorer.
To get your old version of Java back you need to reverse these steps.
Note that in older versions of Java, Default Java for Browsers is called <APPLET> Tag Support (but the effect is the same).
The good thing about this method is that it doesn't affect other browsers, and doesn't affect the default system JRE.
Any ideas?bobparis wrote:

Simple then - bad idea.
If your minimal target is 1.5 then you develop in 1.5. If you insist on using 1.6 for functional reasons then you will need to maintain two development environments on your box 1.5 and 1.6. You explicitly build support for 1.6 and detection for that into the code and test it using 1.6. And test using 1.5 as well.
Note you must test both 1.5 and 1.6. Full functional tests.
Obviously limiting yourself to 1.5 would require less effort (cost.) -
How can I downgrade my Java version and Runtime Environment to 6?
Hi, thanks for reading this in advance:
I have a couple problems. Ever since Java Preferences was removed in one of Lion's updates I have been having trouble with java.
How do I downgrade my java and runtime environment to java 6?
When I go into terminal, and type java -version, this is what I get:
java version "1.7.0_09"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_09-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.5-b02, mixed mode)
How do I downgrade the "java version" to 6 and how do I downgrade the SE Runtime Environment to 6?
I accidentally installed 7 a couple days ago and I've been having trouble with some applications.
Thank you so much.Dear Minionsman and everyone who reads this. I was so happy when i downgraded and i wanted to share it to all, I have found out why it says this in terminal
java version "1.7.0_09"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.7.0_09-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 23.5-b02, mixed mode)
and why it says something different on java tester
Its because java 7 blocks every java version below it.
How do you downgrade?
Well all you do is delete a few files
INSTRUCTIONS BELOW
1.Open Terminal
2. Enter these commands
sudo mkdir -p /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/disabled
sudo mv /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/disabled
sudo ln -sf /System/Library/Java/Support/Deploy.bundle/Contents/Resources/JavaPlugin2_NPAPI .plugin /Library/Internet\ Plug-Ins/JavaAppletPlugin.plugin
sudo ln -sf /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Commands/javaws /usr/bin/javaws
3.
Go to /Library/Internet Plug-Ins/ and delete the JavaAppletPlugin.plugin bundle.
4.
Go to /System/Library/Java/JavaVirtualMachines/ and delete anything whose name starts with jdk1.7.0 or says Java 7 or something similar.
5. now go to terminal and type
java -version
6.it should say something like this
java version "1.6.0_35"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_35-b10-428-11M4508)
Java HotSpot(TM) 64-Bit Server VM (build 20.10-b01-428, mixed mode)

Java Runtime Environment Error - Note Pads On Desktop
I have gotten three note pads on my desktop last week time: Wed Apr 29 08:32:02 2009, time: Thu Apr 30 08:42:51 2009, Sat May 02 09:43:38 2009.
I am wondering why I got three note pads on my desktop telling me about Java Runtime Environment Error.
Is this how Java Runtime Environment Error lets you know there is a problem. When a window pops up saying there is a Java Runtime Environment Error problem I normally send it.
Nothing every happens when I send Java Runtime Environment Error. How can this problem be fixed.
And why am getting Java Runtime Environment Error on my desktop. The second & third Java Runtime Environment Error cant fit in this post because of Maximum allowed is 7500 only. And I had to remove the bootom part of the first Java Runtime Environment Error just to make it fit.
If you need me to I could Post the other two Java Runtime Environment Error.
Here is the first Java Runtime Environment Error with time: Wed Apr 29 08:32:02 2009
