Java automatic updater

Hello everyone.
A component of our application is written and developed in Java.
Our users complain that when the automatic Java updater is running and performing an update, our software (the component written in Java) stops working.
The Java component is a critical part of our software and when it doesn't run correctly the whole application shuts down.
Is there any workaround for that -- eg. get information about Java updater status (active, inactive, updating) -- apart from disabling the automatic updater?

To find the root cause of your installation failure the most direct option is to review the installation logs.  You can find details on how to locate and interpret the installation logs at Troubleshoot with install logs | CS5, CS5.5, CS6 - http://helpx.adobe.com/creative-suite/kb/troubleshoot-install-logs-cs5-cs5.html.

I keep getting the popup window for the J6u1 update.
Does this do a smart "upgrade" or does it install a brand new
    jdk1.6.0_01 installation?

Thank you so much. Thats exactly what I feared.
Im not going to bother then. Who needs the hassle of installing/uninstalling. Thats 300 MB thats getting deleted and
    shuffled about every update.
Do you know if it prompts you to uninstall first?
I didnt think it was advised to uninstall an old version after installing
    a new one.

  • How to automatically update Java without notifications

I just want Java to automatically update in the background - like Windows updates do.  Is such a simple thing possible?  If so, how?
I understand that techies think it important to be notified.  However, I am not a techie, just a regular computer user who is annoyed by continual requests to update Java when I have no reason to say no.
    Thank you.

    Hello,
There is no way for Java to be updated without some amount of user intervention. If you would like to forgo any dialogs, there is silent install, which requires that you download and run the installer from the command line. You can see more about the silent install here: JRE Installer Options

  • Disabling Java Web Start Automatic Updates

    Hi,
my manager is a bit concerned about JWS automatically updating itself.
It doesn't bother me as much as, say, Windows automatically updating itself,
but what if Sun inadvertently adds a serious bug which stops my app working?
It would be nice to be able to choose whether or not JWS does this, and to be able to
manually check for updates, in the Application manager.
Anyone else here share this thought?
    rgds,
    Matthew Harrison

Java Web Start does not ever auato update itself, only the applications that are launched with it.
Starting with Java 1.4.2_01 The Java Runtime Enviornment itself began containing the ability to auto update itself, but :
1.) If 1.4.2_01 auto-updates to 1.4.2_05, both versions remain available on the machine, (and a webstart app can specify either the exact version it wants, or a range ov versions)
2.) The update policy can be set by each user thru the Control Panel, and the default is to prompt the user before installing.

  • Intune & Third Party Software Automatic Updates

Can Windows Intune ensure third party software such as Java, Adobe Reader, & Flash is updated? I at-least want an email when a PC has an out of date version of the above software. If Windows Intune can't do
    this, any recommendations?
We're a small business that simply uses Windows Intune and Office 365. Recently a PC had a vulnerable/out of date version of Java and visited a compromised site, resulting in a nasty virus. Obviously I don't want this to happen again.
Update: I ended up using GFI Cloud's patch management to address the lack of automatic third party patching in Windows Intune.

That requires manually uploading patch files for third party software daily... I'm looking for something that can automatically update common third party software that cause major security concerns, or at-least notify me when they are out of date.

  • Powerbook fails to startup after Safari, Java, QT Updates

I have a 15" Powerbook G4 with OS X.4.2 and just ran software update, while connected to the power supply - it is not running on battery power. After installing the QuickTime, Java, and Safari updates (it has been away from a network for a while) I got the click Restart screen. After clicking Restart the computer shutdown. I hit the power button, heard the hard drive spin up for a few seconds, then a little squeak, silence, then nothing. I tried to power up with option-command-p-r thinking maybe I could reset the PRAM. Same result. I powered on and inserted my OS X.4 DVD (mistake here) and held down the C key. No change, but now the DVD is stuck in the Superdrive. I then tried the ctrl-command-power button until I heard the long tone, released the keys, then nothing. I've also tried removing and swapping the RAM. I should also mention that I get no power light on the front of the powerbook. If I hold down the power button for five seconds I get the long tone and rapidly flashing power light, then the HD stops and silence. I'm guessing the machine is dead. Everything I have read in my Apple Service Technician course manuals says that this is a sign of logic board failure. (At least I have AppleCare).
Anyone have any ideas? I also installed the updates on a G5 and now it has been freezing up at various points and the only way to fix is hold the power-button for 5 seconds and then force a shutdown and restart.
Any help is appreciated, as I found nothing like this on the Apple discussions or tech info. All those issues report at least making it to a gray screen, mine stays black the whole time.

  • Dimension: Automatic Updates of Lower Level Records

    Hi -
In a dimension, when the parent level record gets updated, does OWB automatically update the child records too?
For example, lets say I have two levels - Product Category and Product. So, the product records will have the product category attributes denormailized in the dimension. If I update one of the product category attributes using OWB, will that change automatically trickle down to the product records also?
Thanks in advance for your response.

I've just found this question, whilst looking for a similar answer myself. I know its been months since this has been asked, however since no answer was presented, I went searching. I've tested this on XP SP2, however I STRONGLY advise testing this in your own test environment, before going production... create the following regfile and import it. If you have trouble, email me and I'll email it as a file if requested.

  • Automatic Update - deployment.properties problems with JRE 1.6.0_05

    Hi!
This is a Automatic Updated daisable problem.
I have change the update policy values in the registry but still have one more problem:
I want to deploy JRE 1.6.0_05, in earlier versions ie 1.4 there has been a windows\sun\java\deployment where the initian deployment.properties file is located. But in the 1.6.X ther is no such folder and the deployment.properies file is still "copied" when you start ie "javacpl.exe" . I would like to disable the
choice "Download JRE automatically" in the javacpl.exe to "Never download..." but the initial choice when the file deployment.properties is created is "alway download..." .
Am I still save only with the registry key changes, or do I have to change the value in the deployment.properies and if so, where is the "original" copy that copies the file into C:\Document and Settings\[user]\Application data\Sun\Java\Deployment\
    kindly,
    manekin...

    Hey lynchmob,
Try these steps to correct the problem, you need to be logged in as an administrator:
    1. Go to the group policy editor. You can get they by typing gpedit.msc into the Run dialog.
    2. Navigate to computer configuration->administrative templates->windows components->internet explorer.
    3. Disable "make proxy settings per-machine (rather than per-user)".
    4. Login with the user account and go to Internet Options.
    5. Go to the Connection tab.
    6. Click on the Lan Settings button.
    7. You may notice that the proxy settings are not correct. Change the proxy settings to be whatever is required for your proxy.
    8. Configure Java to use browser proxy settings.
    9. Open the java console.
    10. Set debug level to 5.
    11. Press 'p' to reload proxy settings. Use the trace messages to verify correct proxy settings were loaded.

  • Adobe automatic updates and Microsoft Windows.

About a month ago I asked a question in this article.
At the time I didn't consider what caused the problem as carefully as how to overcome the problem.
This time however I would like to consider what is causing the problem more than how to overcome it.
I have recently been informed by Adobe update manager that Adobe Flash Player v.10.0.42.34 was available.
Because I was busy working I accepted the update without thinking. Later I reconsidered and checked my Windows 7 computer.
I discover that I have exactly the same problem that I had a month ago after using the Adobe automatic update.
I find the Flash objects sometimes appear; sometimes appear and then disappear; and sometimes don't appear.
Out of curiosity I checked my Vista laptop, no problems there. I then downloaded the Adobe update and immediately I have the same problems with Flash.
I tried my old XP tower and things were OK on that machine. I downloaded the update there and the same thing occurs with Flash objects.
All computers are using Windows; all are using IE8; and all are up to date.
Why do my computers display Flash perfectly for a month, but immediately after an automatic update display problems?

  • Java 8 update 40 messages

After OS 10.10.2 upgrade I keep getting a message on start-up that says something like not being able to display web content.
    Upgrade to Java 8 40.
I can't seem to find the source in the Java link under System Preferences.
    Anyone else getting similar message?

Most likely, you have a web plugin that depends on the Java runtime distributed by Apple, such as the Facebook video calling plugin or the "NexDef" plugin for watching baseball streams. If you no longer need the plugin, remove it, including its automatic update mechanism (if any) according to the developer's instructions. Otherwise, install Java.

  • Automatic updates not detecting latest version

I could not find a mention of this in the forums or the bug database.
I have noticed for a few months now...going back to at least the update from Update 6 to Update 7:
The automatic update function does not work. Going to the Java control panel applet, it reports version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_07-b03), however it says that I have the latest version of Java for this platform (Windows XP).
Is there a workaround for this problem? This problem makes keeping several machines updated a PITA.
Is the java bug database the place to report this problem? If so, is it already there?
It's strange to only see articles mentioning this problem very recently:
    http://blog.washingtonpost.com/securityfix/2006/08/sun_acknowledges_major_oops_in.html

In addition to the automatic updates not detecting that Version 1.5.0 (build 1.5.0_07-b03) is not the latest Update 9, the official site, java.com, has old downloads, as well.
Both the Download Now link and the Manual Download links to Version 5.0 Update 6.
