Java beans + jsp

From a jsp I can use the setProperty property="*" method of java beans to set all the properties in a java bean, where each property has a corresponding element in the jsp page. How do I set the property of a java bean where I have the type of jsp code

I want to set the property of the javabean at one go.

You need to have setter methods in the java bean corresponding
to field names in the page. So, I don't think this can be done.

What is the difference between java direct or java bean in JSP?

What is the difference if I use java code directly in JSP or use java bean in JSP?
Which class to use for receiving the passed parameter from html or java script? Any difference for java code and java bean in the way receiving the passed data?

it's generally accepted as better design to separate presentation from logic. meaning, the java code in the jsp should be used to support displaying data, as oppsoed to implementing the application - like database access, etc.
when the logic is separated from the presentation, it allows you to reuse logic components within several jsp pages.
if you decide to change the presentation layer in the future (to support wap, for example) you don't need to rewrite your entire application, since the "guts" of the application is outside of the jsps.
it is also a good idea to separate your business logic from your data layer. adding a "buffer zone" between these layers helps in the same manner as in separating presentation from logic. if you're using flat files for storage now, upgrading to a database wouldn't require rewriting all your business logic, just the methods which write out the data to a file, for example.
once you feel comfortable with separating the various layers, check out the struts framework at http://jakarta.apache.org/
to answer your second question, to get parameters passed in from HTML forms, use ServletRequet's getParameter() method.

to answer your third question: when displaying the HTML from withing a jsp, print out the string to a javascript variable or a hidden form element:

          You realy can do it like Xiang says, but the better way is to use packages. That's
          the way BEA is designed for. If you use packages you can but your bean classes
          in every subfolder beneath Classes. Here for example we have the subfolders test
          and beans:
          You have to declare the package on top of your Bean Source Code:
          package test.beans;
          In your JSP you don't need the import code of Xiang. You only have to refer the
          path of your bean class:
          <jsp:useBean id="testBean" scope="session" class="test.beans.TestBean" />
          There are some other AppServers that only can deploy Java Beans in packages. So
          if you use packages you are always on the right side.

An error in jsp page useBean when i try to include the java bean package?

Hi Sir,
I am using import com.project.ShowData in java beans inorder to connect to the jsp.
The jsp code goes like this:-

<jsp:setProperty name="jspuser1" property="*"/>
Here the error is showing as cannot resolve symbols in com.project.ShowData.But i have given the same in java beans like this:-

It seems that all are correct here.I have done few programs using this without any problem.But suddenly it is giving a problem like this.What is the problem here?It is quite Urgent.Thank u.

I get the following error:

though the database is not int he same folder as the jsp, the DSN is set correctly to pint to the db location.The jsp does print in stdout file:

This means that the jsp does connect to db but it gives the above error.Also the field name also matches that in the database and data is present in the db too.
All other things like creating package for bean,incorporating the packakage are done.
Can someone please help me with their precious advice?

U're getting this error because there is no field called 'password' in ur database, the field in ur database is named 'cpassword' and not 'password'. So change the statement rs.getString("password"); to rs.getString("cpassword");

Questions/answers from jsp to java bean

I am showing some questions, say 4 of them , and radio buttons(yes/no) as answers in the JSP.
Now how do i transfer these questions and their answers from jsp to java bean .
I did try hashmap ,but not quite working .

Name each radiobutton differently, and then provide 1 property and accessor methods for each of your four answers in the JavaBean, with the same name as specified in the HTML FORM.
So in the HTML:
<input type="radio" name="answerOne" value="true"...>
and then have a property named answerOne with accessor methods in the javaBean...

A JSP is meant to be displayed. If there's business logic in that JSP, get it out of there. Process the bean as needed on the server side and send the flow on to some view that actually should be displayed.

Using Java Bean in JSP to show database record

I have links in my Tomcat container that if someone clicks on a specific link it should go to a Record page (Show.jsp) with all the values associated with a record from a database.
For example if someone clicks on a specific link like this:

it would take you to a jsp with database info for someone named Jones and show you his info:

I would like to do this using a Java helper class and bean so I dont have any database connection or Java code in my JSP.
I created Java class file that has Database connection that works with a Java bean. I just dont know how to get the Show.jsp to work with the Java Bean and Java helper class file.

Sorry if I wasnt specific enough. I have a link that passes a value (field that is passed is called lastname) to a JSP where I want to show record info for that value that is passed.
My question is how do I show the database record info on Show.jsp for the lastname field value of Jones where I want to use a Java Bean and Database helper class in Show.jsp

Calling a java bean in a jsp file

hi all
i am working on a jsp project. my tomcat is installed on one machine and my java Bean on another. how do i call the javabean on my machine from the jsp file on tomcat. i'm using packages.
eg:
in the jsp file in tomcat, i'm using
<jsp:useBean id="student" scope="request" class="lab3.Student"/>
i get class not found error.
my main path for this Student Bean is say c://myLab/lab3 which has a lab3 folder with class files.

If you have a Context defined for c://mylab
then below that directory you should have a WEB-INF directory and then a classes directory and then within that your package structure...
so if the package is lab3 yo should have your Student class in:
c://mylab/WEB_INF/classes/lab3/Student.class
(asuming you have set up a Context that points at c://mylab...and your jsp file is there...)

Help with Login Form (JSP DB Java Beans Session Tracking)

Hi, I need some help with my login form.
The design of my authetication system is as follows.
1. Login.jsp sends login details to validation.jsp.
2. Validation.jsp queries a DB against the parameters received.
3. If the query result is good, I retrieve some information (login id, name, etc.) from the DB and store it into a Java Bean.
4. The bean itself is referenced with the current session.
5. Once all that's done, validation.jsp forwards to main.jsp.
6. As a means to maintain state, I prefer to use url encoding instead of cookies for obvious reasons.I need some help from step 3 onwards please! Some code snippets will do as well!
If you think this approach is not a good practice, pls let me know and advice on better practices!

Stepping into Java Beans from JSP

I am trying to figure out how to step into the Java Source code for my beans that are used in my JSP pages. I need to be able to debug them by stepping into them, using break points, etc.
I have Nitro installed and a sample JSP page with the import to my test Java Bean class. What I did was create two projects in my work space. One as a Web project application and one as a Java project. I referenced and opened both projects. Everything compiles fine and the syntax is correct.
The problem is I can not make the link for importing the class.
I get this error: Class com.BrianTest.MyBean not found in import com.BrianTest.MyBean
Anyone got a clue or a good example? I did try and add the class path and I tried to put it in a Jar file and attach the source to the Jar, but same problem.

Stepping into jsp:useBean is not possible, but you can step-into jsp getter & setter tag.
Since you are using java bean from a dependent project you need to configure your server with DevLoader.
And currently only Tomcat server can be configured with Sysdeo Devloader to handle this situation

NOTE: If the project is self sufficient and not dependent on other projects/locations for classess/libraries then NitroX picks up all the libraries & classes present within default WEB-INF/lib & WEB-INF/classes respectively. And in this case you need not modify server configuration.
Sysdeo DevLoader is to allow your web project to use libraries/classes from dependent projects. All you need to do is extract DevLoader.zip present within tomcatPluginV3.zip inside your Tomcat/server/classes folder.

This will solve your problem and you should be able to run/debug your application. And most important make sure you have the correct NitroX build that supports Sysdeo DevLoader, refer http://www.m7.com/whatsnew.htm document against your build id (Help > About NitroX > NitroX Icon)

Java Bean access in a JSP Tag handler class

Hello Everybody,
I am trying to access my java bean(ErrorBean.java) in th doEndTag() method of the tag handler class(MyTagHandler.java) and iam getting an "CLASSCAST EXCEPTION"
I am doing it like this in the tag handler class.
MyBeans.ErrorBean errorBean = (MyBeans.ErrorBean)pageContext.getSession().getAttribute("ErrorBean");
Where MyBeans is the package in which my Error Bean is and iam placing the ErrorBean object in the session object before it comes to the jsp page where i have the jsp Custom tag:
<%@ taglib uri="/WEB-INF/taglib.tld" prefix="errors" %>
<errors:message/>
<%@ include file="footer.jsp"%>
I was of the opinion that i was casting it right...can anyone help me to find ...where iam doing it wrong...its really URGENT ..PLEASE

Friend that did not work either ...
u know what...the ErrorTagHandler class is comiling fine with out errors but in the jsp page when the custom tag is hit..this error is showing up when i see the server log.
can you throw some light on this..

J2EE Java Beans and JSP

I need a little help. I would like to learn jsp programming. Ive been browsing lots of tutorials on net but i didnt find any way how to use your own classes in jsp. I suppose it could do something with Java Beans but im new them so i dont know. Lets say ive got a login form with a username and password. After i send it to another jsp lets say verify.jsp i would like to verify the user using a class ive got. It goes through a xml file with some accounts and looks for the desired user if the password is correct. Now how do i call a method: boolean verifyUser( String user, String password) in the verify.jsp file? Is it possible?

you'll probably want to have a central servlet that all your JSPs will talk to and acts as a traffic cop to direct navigation between pages. it can be the one to add JavaBeans as attributes to page/request/session/application scope. Your JSP can then get the Bean as an atribute and call its isValid method.
Java Beans are NOT Enterprise Java Beans. Be sure you understand the difference. The former are Java objects that follow Bean conventions; the latter are Java objects that extend EJB types and run in a container. Very different.
